  1. First of all, how on earth is my argument weak when I point out in specific games in which the game day play calling wasn't working and yet the play caller kept calling for the same thing over and over? (Its not like the Buffalo run game wasn't working at all or getting continuously stuffed at the line. When you have a running back that is averaging 5.1 yards per carry over the season (which BTW is what the Titans RB Derrick Henry averaged) In 2019 Henry got 303 carries for 1540 yards rushing, 16 TD's Meanwhile Singletary 151 carries for 775 yards, 2 rushing TDs. I'd say Singletary was vastly underutilized all the 2019 season. Even Brandon Beane thinks Singletary can be the workhorse RB needed every down. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001108839/article/bills-gm-devin-singletary-can-be-workhorse-if-needed) Second, how on earth do you KNOW whether a specific play call was an audible by the QB or a call by the OC? Does a second year inexperienced QB have the ability to call his own plays now? Or is it that he has the option to change the play at the LoS depending on what he sees the defense doing? I can tell you this, it is widely known that Daboll was helping Allen with those line play calls after he went up into the booth and would see what defense he was facing and direct him to make changes before the snap. The "truth", it might be what be what you envision... or it might be that like in that Ravens game in which Allen was under constant blitzing pressure to throw 39 times in getting sacked SIX times and hit TWELVE times and yet the Bills kept passing. DESPITE the FACT that both Brown and Beasley were covered like blankets!!! Go re-watch that game to see what I'm taking about! As it was, Allen only rushed 2 times for 9 yards the entire game...Why? Because that ferocious Ravens blitz was in his face every stinking play! Yet, the Bills run game was working against the Ravens with Singletary gaining 5.2 yards per rush (.1 yard over his season average)! This game ended 17-24 and was very winnable had the Bills OC taken the load off 2nd year QB Josh Allen's young, inexperienced shoulders and ran the ball with Devin Singletary more often! P.S. I'm not hating on Brian Daboll by telling untruths or by calling him undue derogatory names. I'm merely pointing out the deficiencies in the game planning, play calling that would have helped the Buffalo Bills win games. There is a very real reason as to why Bills GM Brandon Beane traded the 2020 #1 pick specifically for WR Stephon Diggs! Probably because he watched those games in which Bills WRs John Brown, Cole Beasley were covered, couldn't get any separation. However, Diggs has the ability to create a lot of separation at the top of a route, and when the ball is on target, his hands are as good as anyone's. There is also a real reason why the Bills used a #3 pick and drafted a RB like Zack Moss, who is notably a workhorse and pile driver like RB Frank Gore was supposed to be the latter half of the 2019 season. Lastly, I have no idea why you are defending an offensive coordinator who has never been a top offensive coach, never developed a rookie QB. Listen, this is the very same OC who thought Nathan Peterman should start the 2018 season, get all the pre season, training camp reps. Then throw the better rookie QB into the fire behind a very bad offensive line while asking that rookie QB to throw far more than he should have. That season the Bills run game stunk besides Allen. From my view this OC doesn't know sh!t about developing a rookie QB. Daboll's only claim to fame is his association with Patriots HC Bill Belichick and Alabama HC Nick Saban. Otherwise he hasn't proven anything at the NFL level as an offensive coordinator. If anything, it's been Josh Allen who has made Brian Daboll look like a viable OC because of his pocket escape-ability, running ability along with a determination to win, the likes of which we haven't seen in Buffalo since QB Jim Kelly.
  2. Re-read what I wrote. I never said anything about giving Allen a free pass. However, asking a young, inexperienced QB to face the onslaught of that ferocious Baltimore blitz was downright moronic. Especially when the run game with Singletary was working very well and the Ravens couldn't stop it. The definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over when it isn't working. That is exactly what Brian Daboll did against the Ravens, the Browns, the Texans by asking Allen to throw so often when the run game was working. I don't think that there was an opponent that managed to stop Devin Singletary all season. So why not run more and throw less? Go back and re-watch that Thanksgiving day game against the Dallas Cowboys to see how Josh Allen performs with a good complementary run game. 34 rushes for 124 yards by Buffalo and Allen had the best game of his career. 20 of 25 for 231 yards, 1 TD with a 120.7 rate. The thing is, Bills OC Brian Daboll in his six seasons as an NFL offensive coordinator has NEVER fielded a passing offense better than 22nd in yards, 20th in points. Even Chan Gailey with a total crap roster on offense still managed to get to 14th in yards, points in 2011 with smoke and mirrors. Josh Allen is going into his third season as a starting QB. Daboll going into his 7th as an OC. With the talent on this offensive roster I think the onus is on the OC to develop that young QB and get that offense into the top 15.
  3. Take a long hard look at the 2019 Minnesota Vikings, 49ers or Titans. They often scored more than 30 points in games and didn't need to throw it 40 times. Point here is if your team is throwing 40 times its usually in a losing, catch up effort. I don't think there was a game in 2019 that the Vikings actually threw it 40 times or more. The Vikings, Titans are teams that the Bills offensive game plan should follow in setting up the pass with a dominant rushing attack. That Titans game against the Patriots was one of my favorite games in the 2019 season. The Titans 40 rushes for 201 yards, 1 TD. Passing Tannehill, 9 of 16 for 76 yards. The 13-3 New Orleans Saints have arguably the very best passing QB ever in Drew Brees and they were beaten in New Orleans by Minnesota running the ball 40 times for 136 yards. How did the 13-3 49ers beat the Vikings in a divisional playoff game. 47 rushes for 186 yards, 2 TDs. How did they beat the 14-4 Packers 42 rushes for 285 yards, 4 Tds. Jimmy G passing in that game 6 of 8 for 77 yards...the problem is that the 49ers looked like they had Daboll calling plays in the SB, as they didn't run as much and put the game on Jimmy G's shoulders... So, the super bowl champs were the KC Chiefs and they have a prolific passing QB in Patrick Mahomes. The Buffalo Bills don't have Mahomes, they don't have Andy Reid calling plays, setting up the offensive game plan. The Bills also don't have TE Travis Kelce or WR Tyreek Hill. Right now the best option for Buffalo is to setup their offense like the 49ers, Vikings, Titans. In 2019 when the Bills ran more than they threw they usually won that game. Nothing wrong with being a dominant running team as it should help Josh Allen develop into a top passing QB.
  4. Man, well said. I can't emphasize enough how crucial it is having a top offensive coordinator in building a top offense. Daboll did some really good things last season and like you stated in outsmarting himself and at other times just went into a daze on how to beat certain teams. The 2019 Buffalo Bills had a really really weak schedule in facing bad teams in the division 2x, 7-9 Jets, 5-11 Dolphins, and other bad teams 2-14 Bengals, 6-10 Browns, 8-8 Steelers, 3-13 Redskins, 4-12 Giants, 8-8 Cowboys, 7-9 Broncos. Now look at the teams they lost to 12-4 Patriots 2x, 9-7 Eagles, 6-10 Browns, 14-2 Ravens, 10-6 Texans in the playoffs. The Eagles game stands out to me as the Bills were dominated on both sides on the lines in that 31 to 16 loss, the Bills never had a chance as the Eggles ran the ball down the bills throats 41 rushes for 218 yards, 3 rushing TDs. The Bills defense inability to stop the run along with the inability to run the ball is why they lost...Singletary with only 3 rushes for 19 yards! One of those games in which Daboll had his head firmly stuck up his posterior. Allen took 4 sacks, 9 QB hits and was under tremendous pressure all game and yet played well considering the line failed him. The Ravens game, the Bills had a Thurs night game against Dallas so they had extra time to prepare for Baltimore. And yet the Bills offense fell so hard on its face that it looked like someone putting their face under a forge hammer! The Ravens defense didn't have a dominant pass rusher so they blitz 50% of the time to counter that. The Bills OC had to know this, had to see this and should have had multiple plans to counter all that blitzing. Instead, Daboll called for 4-5 deep passes to beat that cover zero blitz...and when Allen missed on those deep passes the Ravens stepped up their blitzing to 65% plus! Devin Singletary, 17 rushes for 89 yards a 5.2 YPC avg and 6 receptions for 29 yards. This was a player the Ravens couldn't stop and by running the ball it would have taken away their constant QB blitzing. Instead Allen 39 passing attempts, 6 sacks, 12 QB hits under constant pressure every drop back! This is more than an OC outsmarting himself! This was downright moronic to see how much pressure Allen was under and keep calling for pass plays. Stupid is as stupid does... Frank Gore was useless in this game, but Singletary was tearing it up and should have seen the ball 30 plus times. Motor was underutilized again with Daboll so narrow mindlessly focused on passing the ball. The Browns, This was a game in which Brian Daboll was outsmarted by a now fired HC in Freddy Kitchens. In week 10 one of the top pass rushers, sack leaders in the league this season was Browns DE Myles Garrett. The Bills were playing the 3-6 Browns in Cleveland and that point in time the only thing the Browns had going for them was that pass rush by Garrett. The Bills game plan should have been mostly running the ball to keep the Browns pass rush in check and Singletary underutilized 8 rushes for 42 yards a 5.3 YPC avg. Meanwhile Allen was asked to throw 41 times...why? After the game Daboll gave the excuse that the Browns were stacking the box against the run! Which was pure bullcrap because when you look at the game log Singletary 1st qtr 4 yards, 2nd qtr 9 yards, 8 yards, 3rd qtr 1 yard, 10 yards, 4 yards, 5 yards, 6 yards. Singletary didn't even touch the ball in the 4th quarter? Yes, Frank Gore sucked again and you have to ask why is he even seeing a hand-off, 5 rushes, 12 yards a 2.4 ypc avg. The Texans playoff game. Even with a lead for most of the game this OC had Singletary 13 rushes for 58 yards a 4.5 ypc avg and Gore saw 8 carries for 22 yards a 2.8 ypc avg. With Josh Allen being the leading rusher 9 carries, 92 yards a 10.2 ypc avg along with Allen throwing 46 times! Big difference between saying that Daboll outsmarting himself with bad game calls and him being a complete moron with bad game plans. Even when he sees that throwing the ball isn't working and the run game is working with a particular RB, he keeps calling pass plays? Like with the Nathan Peterman debacle in which this OC couldn't see which is the better QB before the regular season. This OC doesn't see when a RB has hit the wall and just keeps using him when there is nearly nothing left. Frank Gore was basically useless for the second half of last season and yet saw the ball more than he should have. Now, think back to when Chan Gailey had a burnt out journeyman QB behind center and ran five WR sets with a 7th round draft pick at WR. Now THAT receiver corps really sucked and yet Gailey managed to get those guys to a #14 in points, #14 in yards. The 2019 Buffalo Bills had a much better offensive cast and this OC couldn't get them better than #23rd and #24th. Brian Daboll should have been held accountable after least season. The way this OC leaves the QB to hang out to dry so often and abandons the run game is a big reason as to why he should have been replaced this off season. JMO
  5. This is Beane doing his Bill Belichick impression...meaning that IMO he will be trade bait for teams looking for a QB in the future.
  6. 54. Bills: EDGE AJ Epenesa, Iowa Grade: A. Intimidating size and length. Stellar hand-work. Stud run stopper. Power player. Legit DE/DT versatility. Average athlete for DE spot. High-end athlete for DT spot. Bills needed more youth at DE. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2020-nfl-draft-grades-and-analysis-for-every-second-round-pick/
  7. I can recall some sites predicting the Bills to take this player at #22 so I'm happy. Kinda surprised Beane stayed put at 54. Thought he would move up. Gotta love those Samoans!
  8. Or when they allow them to go to a rival, like Stephon Gilmore? I'm just happy the days of incompetent losers running this franchise are long gone. Hopefully we can look forward to many seasons of winning. So many times in the past where some Bills fans criticized the moves made by past regimes there were always some who defended those horrid moves. One Bills fan defended Dick Jauron in a thread with 125 pages...
  9. Look over the history of this teams yearly first draft pick under Ralph Wilson and it was mostly RB's, CB's. 12 DB's by my count
  10. Anyone else recall when Buddy Nix made his great draft day trade up in the third round of the 2012 NFL draft for WR TJ Graham...and then gloated about it by saying "who says we don't trade up"! He moved up four spots in the third... I'm more than happy we now have Brandon Beane calling the shots. AND, I still expect a trade up into the first or early second for a defensive player.
  11. Troll much? From Oct 2011 a Buffalo Bill. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/873985-former-nfl-greats-qb-characteristics-that-ryan-fitzpatrick-reminds-me-of Quick Release: reminds me of Dan Marino "Fitzpatrick was decisive with the ball and confident with his decisions on where he was going with it. No hesitation. He dropped back, looked over the field, decided and flung it. Over and over again. The Raiders defensive line just couldn't reach him." Fitz was tough to sack because he got the ball out very quickly and he had great escape-ability. If you state differently its because you never watched him play behind one of the worst offensive lines the Buffalo Bills ever fielded. That 2010 line at the start of the season was all turnstiles and jailbreaks. Fitz had a 6.7 YPC avg rushing that year for 269 yards. The Bills went 0-8 in 2010 for many reasons.
  12. What a lot of Bills fans just don't get is that what made Chan Gailey's offense work so well in Buffalo at times were some specific players. Ryan Fitzmagic, CJ Spiller for a season and the biggest reason in my view was WR Stevie Johnson. Gailey's offense didn't work with his first pick in choice of Trent Edwards who was literally cut outright after a few games and the guy who took all the first string snaps in training camp. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Brohm were his second and third choices. His offense also didn't work with Brohm. Being kind to Gailey, the man was damn lucky Fitz was even on his team or otherwise I kinda doubt he wins even four games in 2010, or six games in 2011, 2012. (So, basically Gailey is a lot like Daboll who really couldn't see the overall talent at QB right in front of him in the preseason. Gailey chose Edwards as his starter even when Bills fans jeered at him over it in OTA's. Daboll chose Nathan Peterman over starting Josh Allen and then thought he was a viable backup. Eventually, My take is that the truth will come out that Daboll is a bum who got a name by his association with Saban, Belichick.) WR Stevie Johnson, who didn't run precise routes and wasn't anything specifically great in size or speed. What he did have was an ability to get open very quickly and Fitz would find him wherever he was and get him the ball in around two seconds. While Fitz had his strong points, like his pocket escape-ability, quick release and ability to find the open receiver very quickly. He also had some glaring faults while in Buffalo like his inability to run a two min offense (that 2011 week 13 Tennessee game) his rather weak arm and the fact that he would attempt to gun-sling his way to complete some throws. Fitz could look very very good some games and very very bad in others. What had sold Bills owner Ralph Wilson on Gailey was he stated he didn't need superstars to run his offense as he admitted it was mostly smoke and mirrors. Meaning he would run 4-5 WR sets only to mostly see one WR getting the ball (Johnson) and draws to Spiller out of the shotgun formation which spread the defense out...so with the defense thinking pass... all Spiller needed to do was break a tackle and he was off to the races. NFL defenses soon figured this out and Gailey had some success for a season. There are real reasons as to why Gailey hasn't been employed in the NFL since 2016.
  13. Russ Brandon at his finest as the Bills pseudo GM... although many Bills fans here kept stating Brandon had nothing to do with player personnel.
  14. Me too. All I'm saying is that this years team is probably one starter away from taking the division and contending for the AFC Championship... and that starter is a dominant pass rusher. Opponents will have a tough enough time going up against that Buffalo secondary as is, and adding that pass rusher puts so much more pressure on the QB to get the ball out quicker. This years Bills defense could possibly take over that coveted #1 defense spot from the Patriots. I wonder if the Bills are giving any thought to unsigned Clowney at this point?
  15. Might not need to be their first round pick 2021 as it could be a 2nd or 3rd rounder. My thoughts are that this roster is so stacked anything drafted past round three will probably not be a starter or perhaps not even a backup. So why not package a bunch of those late rounders to try and move up to say #24 where edge rusher AJ Epenesa is slotted to be taken. Beane has been a magic man the last few seasons in Buffalo, so moving up would not surprise me if there is a player there they think could be a difference maker. This years defense is only one elite pass rusher away from being really great. I can see a trade up if the Bills FO thinks that too.
  16. With no Tom Brady in NE i'm not all that concerned who they draft. Bills fans and even Ole Bill himself seem to forget that when the Patriots won with Matt Cassel it was against Skeletor along with his Tampa 2 defense. This is an entirely different franchise that is so much better from the top down. Anyway, in regards to the draft. I still think the Bills will go pass rusher and will trade up into the first round to grab one.
  17. If there is a defensive player that McD loves that they are able to trade up for... I see them going for it. Even if it means giving up everything behind their #3 and some picks from next year. I say that because 2017 first pick CB, 2018 2 first rounders QB & ILB, 2019 first round DT. Three years, three first round defensive picks. Why should 2020 be any different?
  18. That's more than one thing. I'd like to add that Allen has a burning desire to win which is so infectious it raises up he teammates passion for the game. Case in point was in the 2018 Viking games in which he hurdles Anthony Barr... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avWAVEhD22Q Another case in point was that 2019 Dallas game after a miss handle snap fumble... Allen was raised on a farm so he is no stranger to hard work, getting up early and working hard all day. Josh knew that he wasn't ready for prime time NFL right out of college so he went to work with Jordan Palmer on his footwork, mechanics before the 2018 draft and has kept working with him each off season. An interesting conversation with Mike Mayock before the 2018 NFL draft. Watch this interview and you understand how smart, dedicated this kid is to his craft. He went to Junior college because no big time college would give him a scholarship at 6'3'' 180lbs. Allen sent emails to over 1000 colleges and only two responded. Wyoming and Eastern Michigan who rescinded their offer when they found out he was talking to Wyoming. Allen won bowl games at Wyoming with a bunch of nobodies. When you really research Josh Allen prior to the 2018 draft you understand why Beane traded up for Allen. Its also my thought that someone released some nasty tweets by Allen pre draft so he might fall from that #1 spot for Cleveland, or even that #3 spot by the the Jets. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/04/2018-nfl-draft-josh-allen-history-rise-to-top-pick
  19. Same, make me think of ATF...
  20. In my view it's more than "just" the QB. Some players like Dan Marino can go to a team and change their entire offensive philosophy. The Dolphins previous to Marino were a dominate running team and suddenly went to a pure passing team while forgetting what won them super bowls. Anyway, the point here is that there is more to building a top offense and developing a young QB than throwing him to the wolves, into the fire. Which is what exactly happened to Allen his first season. Bad offensive line, bad coaching, no real QB coach, no veteran QB on the roster for a lot of his rookie season. That coaching staff thought that Nathan Peterman would be the better starter to open the season. Then once the Bills OC saw that their new QB could run like the wind he decided to put in some run plays. Never mind that the reason the QB was running so much and so often was because the O line were mostly turnstiles. Since the Bills have retained the same OC who thought that Peterman should start that 2018 season. The same guy who has never fielded a passing offense better than 22nd. How can anyone expect that young, inexperienced QB to put up 300 yard passing games? I also think this upcoming year is more of a year to prove it for Daboll more so than Allen as it generally takes four years to develop a QB. (Per the late great Bill Walsh) Want to know how bad of an OC Daboll is? All they need to do is watch that 2019 Ravens game in which the Bills coaching staff had extra time to prepare for that Baltimore defense which didn't have any dominant pass rushers so they blitzed more than 50% of their defensive plays. The Bills offensive answer for that pass rush was to attempt to throw deep a few times and when the Bills didn't complete any deep passes the Ravens stepped up their blitzing to 65%. Brianiac Daboll went on to have Allen attempt 39 passes in that game vs 22 rushes and this with Singletary averaging 5.2 yards per rush...the Bills had no answer to stop the Ravens blitz when clearly running the ball more would have taken pressure off of Allen and stopped their continuous blitzing. That game could have been won by Buffalo. No excuses for anyone this season as the Bills have a top of the league receiver corps, a better line along with a solid run game. I can see 300 yard passing games in 2020 for Buffalo. Provided they actually have a season.
  21. I don't remember it that way at all. From the day he arrived in Buffalo Jim Kelly was hailed as the new hero, savior of the team. Bills fans went nuts from day one. Now, after that comeback game there might have been some chatter about Riech, but none from anyone I knew. Kelly was "the man" until the day he retired. On another note, I don't see "that" much hate for Allen. Just some Bills fans that don't realize how difficult it is for a QB to fully develop in the NFL coming from a non big time college program. Like Kirk Cousins stated, it's like taking a drink from a fire hose. Josh Allen is only two years into a team that is still rebuilding the offense and just now this off season finally found its #1 receiver. Also, I'm still not sold on Brian Daboll as the OC as there were several games in which he was clearly out coached in 2019. The offense still lacks discipline with far, far too many penalties. Very questionable play calling at times, and the offense did get better when the OC went up in the booth. I'm not sure this is the coach that should be developing a young, inexperienced QB as he has never fielded a top passing offense. Don't forget that Allen didn't even have a real QB coach his first season or a veteran QB to show him the ropes for a lot of his rookie season. Jim Kelly came into Buffalo with WRs Jerry Butler, Andre Reed. TE Pete Metzelaars. RB Rob Riddick already on the team. In that "1984" first season, Reed caught 53 passes, Riddick 49 passes, Metz 49 passes. It took Kelly three seasons to get the Bills into the playoffs.
  22. Washington Groots...
  23. I don't see it that way... Thurman Thomas 5'10'' 200 lb...Barry Sanders 5' 8'' 203 lb...Walter Payton 5'10'' 200 lbs. Bet you can't even tell me who the backups were to Sanders, Payton. You just need a competent durable body behind the starter. P.S. If I recall correctly the Bears didn't even have a backup RB and instead had a FB, same with Detroit. I get that in today's NFL teams want two viable starting RB's to spread the load over the season. However, that starting RB should be the feature back and they usually get better as the game goes on. I've said it before, I think the Bills FO is looking at Christian Wade as having a spot on the active roster this season.
  24. 2017 first round pick CB, defense 2018 first round pick QB, and ILB Offense and defense. 2019 first round pick DT, defense 2020 first round pick to the Vikings for Diggs. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Beane trade that second round pick #54 and most of the rest of the Buffalo Bills 2020 draft picks 3 #86, 4 #128, 5 #167, 6 #188, 6#207, 7#239 to trade up into the first round for a defensive edge player they really love. That would make it four years, four defensive first round picks. RB isn't that great a need because they have Singletary, Christian Wade, TJ Yeldon on the roster. Everyone seems to be overlooking what Wade managed to do in last years preseason. I happen to think he gets an honest shot to become a starter behind Singletary this year.
  25. I agree. Although, kinda funny that considering they were a mess that they still graded better than Buffalo at #21, Carolina at #18. Of his 838 snaps last season for the Panthers, he played 412 at left guard, 218 at right guard, 173 at left tackle, 45 at right tackle and two at tight end. He was in for 570 pass blocking snaps and 268 run blocking snaps. 3. Pressure. Williams was worst in the league at his best position in allowing 12 sacks, according to Pro Football Focus. He also allowed 21 hurries and two hits. His overall PFF grade was 56.1, with a pass blocking grade of 64.7 and a run blocking grade of 46.2. 4. On the rebound? The Bills have to hope that Williams can return to what he showed in 2017. He was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2017 after he started 16 games at right tackle https://buffalonews.com/2020/03/26/buffalo-bills-free-agency-daryl-williams-offensive-line-carolina-panthers/ At 6'6'' 330lbs I see him at RT and the Bills FO hoping he reverts to 2017 form.
