Now, now the Bills had a run play, Allen for 7 yards. Good to see the Bills OC fix the run game... -

All-22 Grades for Bills/Chiefs (The Athletic)
Nihilarian replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What gets me is how so many Bills fans put Josh Allen under the microscope and say he is the reason the Bills lost that game... I can't recall many QBs that can carry the entire team with a defense that played that poorly and literally no run game. Perhaps John Elway in his early days and even then they had Karl Mecklenburg, Dennis Smith, Rulon Jones, Tom Jackson on defense. That defense that played against the Titans, Chiefs reminded me so much of Dick Jauron's defenses running that awful Tampa 2. Now the entire NFL world watched what the Titans, Chiefs did to win against Buffalo and the Bills will see that again and again all season. Someone called for Lesie Frazier to be fired and now I'm thinking that might have been the right thing to do. That extension the Bills gave McD also reminds me of Jauron getting that extension and the team went flat. After watching games like these last two make me rethink the Bills might be a Skeletor 7-9 team with 10 games left. Jets, Pats, Seattle, Arizona, BYE, Chargers, 49ers, Steelers, Denver, Pats, Dolphins. Gotta get that Buffalo run game working and the defense back to respectability. Fire Frazier if that's what it's gonna take. -
Why did Gregg Williams fail as a Head Coach?
Nihilarian replied to JetsFan20's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think he failed because of his GM Tom Donahoe. Ole Tom lost a power struggle in Pittsburgh with Bill Cowher and he replaced John Butler in Buffalo as GM in 1991. It all starts at the top in my view. Trading for Drew Beldsoe wasn't a bad move but he didn't following it up with getting him the protection that he needed to succeed. If Bledsoe had time in the pocket he would tear teams a new one with Eric Moulds, Josh Reed. They even had Kevin Gilbride as OC. The problem was that once you hit Bledsoe a few times in a game it would take him out of his game and he couldn't usually get into a rhythm as he would see, hear phantom sackers. It's why Belicheat traded him to a divisional rival. Bledsoe needed a top O line to defend him. It not like Donahoe didn't try to upgrade the O line by drafting tackle Mike Williams, it's just that his talent evaluation on tackles stunk as he missed on T Bryant McKinnie. He also drafted JP Losman... Donahoe did draft some really good players in his time in Buffalo like Lee Evans, Eric Moulds, Willis McGahee, Travis Kelsay, Nate Clements, Aaron Schobel, Travis Henry. Williams finished his second season in Buffalo at 8-8 when 9-7 took the division by the Jets, the Patriots and Dolphins were both 9-7 too. -
All-22 Grades for Bills/Chiefs (The Athletic)

Interesting stuff, thanks for posting! As for Allen, its not unusual to see a QB have some overthrow issues early in a big game like that. Lots of QB's have that issue at times and he did get better as the game went on. I still feel there was just far, far to much responsibility of winning the game on his shoulders with very little from the Bills run game a horrid showing from the Buffalo defense. That one play where Allen read the defense and made a call to change the play to find Diggs in man on the outside drew a PI penalty, rightfully so. Then, the most beautiful TD pass and catch by Diggs that was just amazing. The game could have been won with 6 min left "IF" the Bills defense could have made a freaking stop. JMO -
The Maddening Mystery of McDermott's Disappearing Defense
Nihilarian replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What the last two games against the Titans, Chiefs showed that Buffalo isn't on the same level as those two. Now that the Titans found a decent QB, played zone defense and got a lot of pressure on Josh Allen it was like watching a low level college team play a professional team. Both sides of the Bills lines were pushed all over the field on both offense and defense. For me, It was embarrassing to be a Bills fan watching both sides of the lines pushed around like that. Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire had more than a 10+ yard per carry before the first half of that game and that did change to 6.2 YPC at the end. Still, you would think that the Bills defensive coaches would have made changes to stop that Chiefs run game... 46 rushes for 245 yards. I think that Frazier/McD were so afraid of Mahomes throwing deep to Tyreek Hill that they didn't see that the weather conditions weren't conducive to passing. Shameful stuff, to see the Bills look so dreadful in two prime time games with the entire NFL world watching. -
The Maddening Mystery of McDermott's Disappearing Defense
Nihilarian replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. The first four games Jets, Dolphins, Rams, Raiders. It looked like Josh had a lot of time in the pocket to pick his targets and the Buffalo passing game carried the team to wins. Allen even needed to make comebacks due to the bad defense. Not only is the defense bad, but so is the run game. #25th in rush attempts, #27th in rush yards, #20th in TDs, #21st in YPC avg. The Titans and Chiefs brought a lot of heat on Allen and hit him hard after almost every pass play. With virtually no run game to help the offense and with Allen under pressure the offense couldn't get on track. If Allen is hurt you would think that the Bills OC would do something to help him out, like run the ball more. Fix the run game, fix the pass blocking!...and fix the defense! The Bills might get the next win over the 0-6 NY Jets to go 5-1. Then they face NE, Seattle, Arizona and could end up 5-4. -
Zimmer needs to replace Oliver in starting lineup
Nihilarian replied to bills6969's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oliver has 7 QB pressures. Besides, Its my take that the Bills brain trust were far more worried about getting beaten deep by Mahomes to Hill so they dropped deep to defend the pass more...and got eaten by the run because of that scheme. and the inactive players. Where is Pat Williams when ya need him? -
The Official Bring Fitzpatrick Home Thread
Nihilarian replied to BillsFan692's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think so also. But then, I had heard that if Tua were healthy he would have been the #1 overall pick. So, who knows. All I can say is hope he has a rough start learning the NFL ropes. Fitz has such a quick release that the line didn't need to hold blocks for long...gonna be interesting. -
Allen’s weapons relative to Tenn/KC
Nihilarian replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This really has more importance then most realize. Why wasn't Beasley thrown to before the 2nd half in the Titans game? Why did they wait until the fourth quarter to utilize him in the Chiefs game. Opposing teams realize what a threat Diggs is so they try and neutralize him as much as they can. I can tell you now its what the Patriots are going to do. Cole Beasley is the underneath guy, the chain mover and should bee seeing a lot more passes his way. On another note, it was a cold rainy day and the Chiefs came out and established the run to help their QB. The Bills just kept asking Josh Allen to carry the game and he probably would have if the sieve of a Buffalo defense could have made a stop with 6 min left in the game. Time of possession Chiefs 37:45. Bills 22:15...WTF! Aside from how poorly the Buffalo defense played. My biggest complaint is the offensive game plan. Where is the run game? When opposing teams blitz Josh why does the line have no answer? The guy moves around like a greased hog but he is still under constant pressure and especially on 3rd down. KC Chris Jones and Frank Clark are both in the top 10 in QB pressures with 16, 15 respectively. Oh, and BTW, Bills fans bitching about Ed Oliver, he has 7 QB pressures so far this season, Hughes has 8, Addison has 6. -
I've given this a little thought and came away with Cole Beasley signed with Buffalo last year right? Who is to say that he didn't give the Bills defense and offense the Cowboys entire playbook / standard game plan. Kinda reminds me of 2013, when the Bills signed SS Lawyer Milloy who was formally from the Patriots and then the Bills went on to beat NE opening day 31-0. Naturally Billicheat fixed his game plan, play calls so at the end of the season 14-2 NE beat Buffalo 6-10, 31-0. On another note, the Bills are currently 4-2 and did have the #3 overall defense last season. The 2020 Buffalo defense is 21st in points allowed, 23rd in yards allowed. The Bills should catch their breath this week against the 0-6 NY Jets who have no intention of winning this game in order to draft Trevor Lawrence. Buffalo should be 5-2 when they face the Patriots who will be coming off a game against the 49ers.

You also need to consider that McD / Frazier are making the calls for defensive players. Beane is probably just making the moves McD is asking for. 3rd Phillips, 1st Edmunds, 1st Oliver, 2nd Epenesa. **The Tennessee Titans are 5-0 and a 2020 playoff team. The KC Chiefs are 5-1 and a 2020 playoff team. The Bills lost to two really good teams and if they want to beat the Dolphins for the AFC East they had better get their together!

1- the weather and Mahomes not throwing those deep bombs to Hill as he usually does could have been a bigger factor in limited the Chiefs to 26 points. Mahomes still went 22-26 for 225 yards, 2 TDs. Why? because Patrick was hitting the short dump off passes AND he had a run game to lean on! The mere fact that the Chiefs ran all over Buffalo to the tune of 46 rushes for 245 yards a 5.3 YPC AVG and before the half Helaire was averaging a whopping 10.6 YPC. The Bills defense was the very worst thing on the field, no question in my view. 2-In order to score points the Bills offense needed to be on the field more than 22:17 min! yeah, that's right. The Chiefs held the ball for 37:45! 3- Yes, Allen was off at times and so was Mahomes in that weather. And yes, Allen was under a lot of pressure all game and most particularly on 3rd down. You know what helps a QB in that situation, a good run game. You can talk about a bad game from Josh Allen. I seem to recall Josh stepping up to the line on 3rd and 10 on the Chiefs 28, reading the defense and changing the play call and throwing to Diggs (penalty on Chiefs) Allen saw the Chiefs were in man coverage and saw Diggs singled so he changed the play call went to Diggs, the Chiefs DB did interfere. Next play Allen throws a Laser to Diggs in the side of the end zone, TD. Great play by both QB and WR. The Bills took the lead on that TD 10-7. You are right though, in Allen was under a lot of pressure just like that 2019 Ravens game and again Bills OC Brian Daboll had no answer for it. It is a team game and you can't expect a QB to carry a team when he is getting hit so often after every pass play. The Bills O line stunk, the Bills run game stunk, the Bills play calling/game plan stunk. JMO

Naa man, Rex Ryan took the very best pass rush in the league with the very best D linemen. Then turned them into stationary plug players or had them drop back into pass coverage while the Bills crappy LBers were supposed to make plays. The Bills run game under Ryan was good because Anthony Lynn was the OC/HC. LeSean McCoy was doing well and the Bills had a pro bowl OG in Ritchie Incognito, Eric Wood at center, Glenn at LT. 2016 Rushing, #2 in rush attempts, #1 in rushing yards, #1 in rushing TDs, #1 in rushing yards per attempt. The Buffalo Bills current OC looks to be damned and defiant to throw the ball no matter what the weather conditions or the team he is facing. To him, the Bills run game is like a temporary distraction until he can call another pass play. Tenn, 34 rushes vs Bills 22. KC, 46 rushes vs Bills 23.

This game is not all Josh Allen’s fault.
Nihilarian replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen played better than Lamar Jackson did against that same Chiefs defense in week 3. In fact, that score was Chiefs 34 Ravens 20. Jackson went 15 of 28 for 97 yards, 1 TD. Baltimore ran much better though 21 rushes 158 yards. Buffalo vs Chiefs 23 rushes for 84 yards. The Bills offensive run game stunk. Lots of drops in the game, John Brown 4 targets 0 catches. The Bills O line was bad, can't run block and pass blocking on third down looked like a jailbreak. The Bills defense was the worst part of this game by giving up 46 rushes for 245 yards. Time of possession 37:45 Chiefs vs 22:15 Buffalo. -
Week 6 Postgame Thread KC at Bills
Nihilarian replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen actually had a better game then Lamar Jackson against that Chiefs defense. He was under pressure a lot and especially on third down. Does the QB have to carry the team or they lose? Look at what the Chiefs did on the ground 46 rush attempts, 245 yards vs Buffalo 23 attempts, 83 yards. ToP Chiefs 37:45 vs Bills 22:15 Game plan, O line, Play calling, QB?
