I'm heartbroken. Words of comfort?
Nihilarian replied to Rockee96's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Words of comfort? KC HC Andy Reid was a super bowl coach before he went to KC from Philly. Noted for being an offensive guru. Took a 2-14 team and went 11-5 in 2013!!! (9-7 2014), (11-5 2015), (12-4 2016), (12-4 2018), (12-4 2019) (14-2 2020) Seven years! The Chiefs were a playoff team when Patrick Mahomes was drafted and he was able to sit and watch for an entire season. They already had a good O line, defense, receiving corps. Andy Reid has been fine tuning his team all this time. Josh Allen is only in his third season on a team basically being built around that young QB. The team just realized you need a strong run game and passing attack while having an offense with balance to win championship games. Think about those 90's Bills teams, in 88 they went to the AFC championship game and lost to Cincy. 89 to Cleveland in the division round and finally a SB in 1990. So it generally takes a few years to build a SB team. -
Thank you Buffalo Bills

Thanks Bills players and owners. Great season for a young QB in only his third year! The Chiefs showed us the flaws in the team...now to get them fixed! -
Not to be a contrarian...it was the Buffalo defense that won that Baltimore game. That pick six was a 14 point differential. The Buffalo offense scored a whole ten points all game. They are going to need to step it up big time on offense to compete with that KC offense. Yes, we can laud that Diggs had 8 catches for 106 yards and a TD. Brown had 8 catches for 62 yards. I'm not praising Brian Daboll for that Ravens game plan or the play calls. For whatever reason the Ravens didn't pressure Allen all that much and nothing at all like last years game where they blitzed 67% of the Bills offensive plays,6 sacks,12 QB hits. That alone let Allen have more time to throw and yet not one pass caught by Cole Beasley, he had two targets. Gabe Davis had four targets, no catches. Allen 23 of 37 206 yards, 1 TD. QBR 51.0. As crappy as Jackson played he had a QBR of 55.7. In my view the Bills offense was playing like they were behind in the game with all that passing. That article talks about no RB runs in the entire first quarter and one RB run in the second quarter like that was a good thing. With that much wind I think it was taking far too many chances slinging the ball around 37 times vs 9 RB runs. Two missed field goals by the Ravens, an over throw by the back up QB with the receiver five yards ahead of the defender...he hits that pass its a different game. The Bills don't recover that Allen fumble and its a different game, no pick six and its a different game. The Bills were outplayed by the Ravens, 340 yards to 220, ToP 35:33 to 24:27. I guess it's better to be lucky some games...holding that Ravens offense to 3 points was something of a miracle by the Bills defense. I'm hoping that the last two games were an anomaly and they find that high scoring Buffalo Bills offense that beat the Seahawks by 44, or the 49ers by 34, Denver by 48, NE by 38, Miami by 56! Go Bills!

Actually, Devin Singletary is the third leading receiver this season behind Diggs, Beasley. Gabe Davis, John Brown, Isaiah McKenzie, Dawson Knox all behind Motor. Though Gabe Davis has more targets. Another note, all three Buffalo Bills leading receivers have a 76% catch percentage, which is pretty freaking awesome.

Hey, Aaron Jones for GB was a 5th round pick...201 attempts, 1104 yards, 9 TDs, 5.5 rush yards per attempt. GB RB Jamaal Williams was a 4th rounder...AJ Dillon was a 2nd rounder. BTW, Aaron Jones is third on the Packers in receiving after #1 WR Davante Adams and #2 TE Robert Tonyan. All I'm advocating... is to actually run more often and find that top RB anywhere you can... like Green Bay happened to do. P.S. The Packers do have a pair of pro bowlers at tackle and OG.

There was a very serious reason for that as he blew out his knee his JR year in college and his backup Barry Sanders started that season for him. When he returned he put Barry back on the bench. With so much mileage on him in college teams were afraid he was all used up. The Buffalo Bills medical staff cleared him and drafted him #40th. Thomas carried 897 times for OSU. ESPN had projected Thomas to be an early first round pick and had a TV crew in his home on draft day. Seven other RBs were drafted ahead of Thurman though.

What so many current Bills fans forget is while the Bills had QB Jim Kelly and WRs Andre Reed, James Lofton, Don Beebe to run the K-gun / no huddle offenses. The biggest threat the team had was Thurman Thomas running and catching as he was around 70% of the Bills offense in those days. Most of those 90's glory years the Bills ran the ball more than they threw it. With a top RB this team would be unstoppable. Take a long look at the 2020 13-3 Green Bay Packers 9th in passing yards-8th in rushing yards, yet 24th in passing attempts with the #1 scoring offense. Balance!

Let's also not forget that foot/leg injury that had him limping off the field. Turf toe someone said. In any event, if that Bills defense that showed up for the Ravens game shows up for the Chiefs game it won't matter who the QB is for KC. Still, I kinda doubt that Chad Henne will put fear into the Bills secondary, not like Mahomes.

Chargers to Hire Brandon Staley as HC (not Daboll)
Nihilarian replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get it too, somewhat. It makes sense to build that defense while they already have their franchise QB. I wonder who he will peg as OC? To me, this is reminiscent of the Freddie Kitchens hire by Cleveland. Staley has been a DC for ONE season, 2020. Previous he was the Broncos/Bears OLB coach for 3 seasons and before that college DC. Talk about a meteoric rise. While the Rams have the #1 defense in the league this season. They also have perhaps the two best players at their positions in Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey. -

In order to get a run game going... you actually need to try to run the ball...with the RB's! The Bills didn't even call a run play the entire first quarter against the Ravens. One run by Singletary in the 2nd quarter! The 3rd quarter first play, Singletary off LT for 9 yards, next play run by Singletary LG -1 yards, three passes later, Singletary LE 12 yards, 5 passes after. Buffalo, 16 rushes for 32 yards on an exceptionally windy day more conducive to running the ball. NOW, 7 of those 16 rushes were by Josh Allen for 3 yards. So the Bills ran the ball a whole 9 times by the RB's... The Buffalo Bills offense scored 10 points. The Buffalo Bills defense scored 7 points. The last two games the Bills offense has been outplayed...The Ravens, 340 yards to Buffalo 220 yards. ToP Ravens 35:33. Bills 24:27. Yards per rush 4.7 to 2.0. Same with the Colts, 472 to 397, ToP 34:17 to 25:43. Buffalo was bailed out by the defense in holding the Ravens to 3 points. Baltimore previous scores, Titans 20, Bengals 38, Giants 27, Jags, 40, Browns 47, Cowboys 34. Now, had Buffalo lost this game against the Ravens, Bills fans would be screaming for Daboll's head on a platter...That Allen fumble that the Bills recovered in both games against the Colts/ Ravens. That deep bomb that Tyler Huntly overthrew to Brown. The Colts hail-Mary that was knocked down. Sometimes it's better to be lucky. Can't depend on that luck for future games... gotta work a run game too! Antonio Williams anyone? Just saying, Daboll was the favorite to get the Chargers HCing job and then they changed their minds after asking for a second interview...which never took place. Apparently, the Bills offense in the Ravens game might have been all they needed to see. On one side I'm glad for continuity as Allen and Diggs love the guy. On the other, I question the game plan, play calls on offense the last two games. Perhaps now that teams no longer have interest he can focus on doing a better job. 🙏 -

I agree and I agree. I don't get how an offense can put up 56 points on one of the better defenses in the league and then choke up on a mid pack defense... The Bills NEED a run game to go along with that awesome passing attack with Allen. Balance, look at the Packers. The 2020 Buffalo Bills are 20th in rushing yards, 20th in yards per attempt. That's with QB Josh Allen being the teams third leading rusher with 421 yards, 8 rushing TDs. Moss has 481 rush yards, 4 TDs. Singletary has 687 yards, 2 TDs. -

So true, and last week too. Balance is the right word. The guy coached / game planned himself out of a head coaching job IMO. Look at the offensive numbers for the Bills against the Colts, Ravens and not good at all. Out gained in yards, ToP, and with literally no run game. This reminds me of last years Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving with Carolina after that Cowboy trouncing saying they were interested in Daboll as HC... the following week the Bills faced the Ravens, Allen 6 sacks, 12 QB hits and no answer for that pass rush and suddenly nobody is interested in Dabs as HC anymore. Here is a OC that all he wants to do is have his QB throw to show how good he is at calling pass plays. NVM that first season (2018) the Bills had a horrid O line while Dabs call for more deep passes than any other NFL team. NVM last years Ravens game Josh Allen was abused every drop back, lets keep throwing 39 passes! NVM that the wind conditions were conducive to running the ball this last game...37 passes. The Bills needed a run game in the worst way yesterday and was nowhere to be found. Looking at his history, I'm kinda hoping he takes the Eagles or Texans job... if offered. -
Probably because of the way they barely won against the Colts...who were the better team that day as they put up more yards, ToP and made the 13-3 Buffalo Bills look very vulnerable. Not to mention that fumble by Allen near the end of that game if recovered by the Colts would have given them the win. The fact that the Bills lost the better looking RB Moss for the season, that the Bills don't even attempt to run the ball much. That the matchup for the Bills vs the Ravens looked like a loss for Buffalo because one team is a dominate running team and the other...has no real run game. The Buffalo defense was supposedly a mid pack defense this season and no where near as good as they were last season with the #3 overall defense. The Bills going against a Ravens team that pounded the Bills 47-3 in the season opener in 2018. Or the Ravens team that beat the Bills in 2019 17-24 by blitzing Josh Allen like crazy with 6 sacks and 12 QB hits. Who knew... that the 2019 Buffalo Bills defense would show up against this seasons 2020 Ravens team. I know I didn't! Shocked the hell outta me with that 101 yard pick six and sacked Lamar Jackson 4x. What a turn of events! The Ravens out rushed Buffalo, out threw them, outgained them 340 yards to 220. That Bills defense...whew! Leslie Frazier deserves a man of the year game ball for that game plan, game day calls and getting his players ready to dominate. The 2020 Buffalo Bills are 15-3 and on their way to the AFC Championship game! What a time to be a Bills fan!

Leslie Frazier did a magnificent job in game planning the Ravens offense, as did the players making plays. Great game.
