Orlando Brown traded to the Chiefs for 1st Rd Pick
Nihilarian replied to CaptnCoke11's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
More than "The Bills’ defense had its issues throughout the regular season, but the pass rush wasn’t one of those problems. They were particularly effective at getting to the quarterback quickly, recording a 25% pressure rate in 2.5 seconds or less that trailed only the Steelers. Getting to the quarterback is good, and getting to the quarterback quickly is even better. Once again, their leader was Jerry Hughes, who generated pressure and won his pass-rushing reps much more consistently than one would expect from an edge defender with just 4.5 sacks on the season. That seems to be a common theme over the past several years. Since 2018, Hughes ranks sixth among edge defenders in total pressures (175) but tied for just 42nd in sacks (16.0)." https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2020-pass-rush-rankings I get the impression the Bills want to see what they have with Star returning and another year in for AJ, Oliver & Co. Yes, they still need that one dominant pass rusher and Beane has attempted to find one, Mack, Watt. There are still some out there. Looking at 2021, might be Christian Wade's last chance to make the final roster. Plus, the Bills have Antonio Williams, Matt Breida. I'm not so concerned in adding another RB in the draft. Lastly, If the Refs don't allow the Chiefs secondary to hold like crazy in that AFC Championship game with their "sticky defense", that they didn't allow in the SB. Its an entirely different game IMHO. Let's see how the Bills do this season. -

KC needed to do something to protect Mahomes...and they still need a starting RT. What's next? -
Excellent argument AGAINST drafting a 1st Round RB
Nihilarian replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You n me both 😋 Still, the argument can be made for having a top RB. Derrick Henry 2nd rd-Dalvin Cook 2nd rd- Jonathan Taylor 2nd rd-Aaron Jones 5th rd. Nick Chubb 2rd rd. Alvin Kamara 3rd rd. Its all about finding that diamond RB in the 2nd round...easier said than done. -
Agreed, but then the Refs were not calling holds on either side of the Chiefs play. The "stickie Chiefs defense" as announcer Tony Romo cited. The Chiefs DBs were clearly holding the Bills receivers all game and yet the refs didn't allow that in the SB. What made my year was the way the Bucs chased vaunted QB Patrick Mahomes to the tune of nearly 500 yards behind the line of scrimmage in that SB!! 31-9 and not even close. 2 INTs, 3 sacks and a QBR of 52.3. Simply beautiful to witness. Anyway, a few of the biggest factors between the Bills roster and the Chiefs, Bucs rosters are at pass rush, tight end and run game. The Bills have no pass rusher like Bruce Smith nor anyone close to that dominance. They have no tight end like Travis Kelce, Gronk, George Kittle either. I'd say finding that elite pass rusher and tight end should be the Bills biggest concern going forward. Who, what, where I dunno.

Who’s the ONE guy you want the Bills to draft no matter what!!?
Nihilarian replied to McBean's topic in The Stadium Wall
Before I get worried about the other teams in the AFC drafts. They need to show they know what they are doing. Brandon Beane has shown he is a sure fire wizard at times. Sam Darnold, Tua, Cam Newton...nuf said! The Jets let go some of their better players to get some of all those draft picks... Also, they were a 2-14 team last season. QB Zach Wilson has some warts... very similar to what we heard about Josh Rosen. If the Jets fail to build a solid offense around that rookie QB he will fail just like Darnold! The Patriots have been drafting poorly over the last few years. The choice of Newton to run their offense, really? The only real worry is if they manage to trade up to the 4-5 spot to get one of the top 5 QBs...even then? Their defense should be in the top 5 again, good run defense, good pass defense. Its the offense that is a concern. Miami has a boatload of draft picks and yet they need to prove they know what they are doing in the draft too. Probably should have stayed at #3 and drafted a QB. -
I'll bet the FO of the Jets simply couldn't stand to look at Darnold any longer...then, they think of the guy they missed on. Because every time they looked at Darnold it reminded them that they traded up to the #3 pick to have their choice of QB's after Mayfield and they screwed it up. They traded with the Colts for the #3 and gave up their #6 first round and THREE second round picks. The #37th overall, #49th and a 2019 second round pick.

For all those Bills fans worried about Zach Wilson. This take remind you of anyone? "In speaking to a director of college scouting from a NFC team that is in the market for a new quarterback, he outlined the makeup concerns with Wilson: "Johnny Manziel comp without the [drugs]. [Wilson] is fun to watch, but is he a 1-year flash in the pan? He's a backyard baller who is fun to watch." "Someone will grab him in the first [round]. I doubt he gets to the second [round] because once the third quarterback goes, after Lawrence and Fields, there will be a run on them. [Wilson] has character concerns, rich kid who is an entitled brat - uncle owns Jet Blue -, parents are a pain, not a leader, selfish, and he's a know-it-all. "His positives are that he's super competitive, not to get scared and won't back down, extremely confident, very smart with keen recall and teammates will play for him." https://walterfootball.com/nflhotpress/article/Some-Teams-Have-Makeup-Concerns-with-Zach-Wilson Like perhaps Josh Rosen...

This is easy, when the team ran the ball down other teams throats all season 2019, Jimmy G looked great in just managing the game like Alex Smith. Everything came to light in that super bowl when the 49ers put the emphasis to win the game on their QB, and he failed them. He was only sacked once and yet he looked bad, the Chiefs won 31-20. Jimmy G had 3 starts in 2018, played a full season in 2019 and with injuries only played 6 games in 2020. Perhaps they want a QB that can stay healthy. The Buffalo Bills might have shown them what a true stud at QB looks like! My thoughts are the 49ers are looking at QB Trey Lance. Both Fields and Jones look better right now. But, Lance looks like Josh Allen in that he has a very high ceiling and needs time to develop... small school, big arm.
-
It shouldn't matter what QB the Jets select at #2. If they fail to build their O line, WR corps, run game they can expect the new QB to fail just like Darnold.
-
Carolina must have been thinking that no way do any of the top 5 QBs in the draft reach them at #8. #1) QB Lawrence, Jacksonville #2) QB Wilson, NY Jets #3) QB Fields?, SF #4) QB Jones?, Atlanta #5) Cincy #6) Miami #7) QB Lance, Detroit #8) Carolina now have Sam Darnold and will draft a different position. Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Mac Jones could go in any order but all expected to be gone in the first 10 picks. Good thing too because rumor has it that the Patriots have been very interested in Mac Jones!

Which QB do you want the Jets to draft?
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh, I agree. As much as I disliked Brian Daboll at *first... I can't overstate enough what the guy has done for the buffalo passing game. It's like a fine art, a science, a chess match to find a balance to what works against different teams. I won't deny that I wanted Daboll's head on a platter after that first season. But! The man has "helped" develop Allen into one of the very best young QB's in the league. Don't get me wrong here because I still feel the guy has warts. I also feel he has grown and developed right along with Allen. Those warts... not a very good, consistent Buffalo rushing attack over the course of the season. Fell on his face in the playoffs and against the Kansas City Chiefs TWICE. What happened to the vaunted Buffalo passing scheme against the Colts, Ravens, Chiefs in the playoffs. Ten offensive points total scored against the Ravens and for whatever reason, the Baltimore DC chose to not blitz Allen like they had in previous games. We have seen growth in both Josh Allen and Brian Daboll from that first season and all I can do is hope both keep developing and getting better at their craft. The Bills need to work their run game with the same proficiency we see in the Buffalo passing game. -
Which QB do you want the Jets to draft?
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets appear to be locked in on Zach Wilson at this point. Yet, what did they expect from Sam Darnold when they failed to protect him, failed to get him quality receivers, failed to get him a decent run game. It really doesn't matter who the Jets draft because if they repeat the same mistakes with Darnold... whomever they draft the result will be the same in two years. -
The Patriots have the #15th pick in this draft and the top five QB's won't last that long. 1st QB)Jags, Lawrence 2nd QB)Jets, Wilson 3rd QB)49ers, Lance/Fields 4th QB)Falcons are looking at QB's with the #4 pick. Justin Fields 5th QB)Panthers are looking at a QB with the #8 pick. Mac Jones Even Denver with the #9 is looking at new QB over Drew Locke. It is a good bet that with so many QB hungry teams that all those top five QBs won't even last till the #9 pick. My take is that the 13-3 Buffalo Bills with QB Josh Allen has ignited a QB frenzy in the draft this year. Some view Trey Lance as another Josh Allen who needs some development but has great potential. This might be the reason as to why the 49ers moved up to draft a QB. But at the same time are retaining Jimmy G for this season. The Patriots could still pick a QB at #15 in Trask or Mond.
-
The NY Jets won't stay at #2 and NOT take a QB! Then again, it is the Jets and they have proven time after time to do the wrong thing. Like like trading up to take Same Darnold in the first place and missing on Josh Allen! 😆 Otherwise they trade back like the Dolphins did... with Tua as it appears they are staying with him at QB. This move says the Phins are no longer interested in trading for Watson too. Consensus is that the Jets take Zach Wilson @#2 and trade Darnold. Next thought is, who exactly do the 49ers want at #3 to trade away the farm to get him? Trey Lance, North Dakota St Justin Fields, Ohio St Mac Jones, Alabama Rumor has it... that "if" the 49ers pass on Lance and take Justin Fields that the Patriots will make a move to trade up to the #4 spot for Trey Lance.

Not Sure We Will Repeat as AFCE Champs

I get the optimism for the Buffalo Bills in 2021. Josh Allen took an huge leap in being in the running for MVP conversation. The Bills had for the first time in franchise history the leagues leading receiver. The 2020 Buffalo Bills were 13-3 and if not for a miracle Hail-Mary play by the Arizona Cardinals with 11 seconds left, the Bills go 14-2. The #2 overall offense in the NFL in 2020. There were only four other NFL teams with a better point differential @126, Ravens 165, Packers 140, Saints 145, Bucs 137. Yes, Buffalo has the better QB in the division for 100% certainty! Even the backup in Trubisky looks to be better than Newton, Tua or Darnold. That is "IF" all those QB's remain the starters. The NY Jets with the #2 overall pick could get Justin Fields or Zach Wilson. The Dolphins, if not entirely sold on Tua have the 3rd overall pick have choices of who is still on the board at QB. Zach Wilson-Justin Fields-Trey Lance-Mac Jones. The Patriots will also be able to pick up one of those QB's mentioned, especially if they trade up for one. What Bills fans fail to realize is that last year no NFL team had a productive preseason or training camp to be able to get new players up to speed. Dolphins QB Tua was a rookie... who had no training camp, no preseason and was thrown into the fire midway thru the season. Still. he went 6-3 with the 10-6 Dolphins. The Phins also fielded a top 10 defense. The Dolphins have two first rounders, two second rounders and one third in this years draft. Face reality, they should be improved. The NY Jets finally fired "crazy eyes" Gase and hired ex 49er DC Robert Saleh who should be an improvement. He also brought with him OC Mike LaFleur. The Jets also have four picks in the first three rounds and two firsts. They improved in free agency. Carl Lawson, Cory Davis. They should be better than 2-14 even with a rookie QB. Yes, Cam Newton looked horrid for the Patriots in 2020. Still, as bad as he was, if not for a last min fumble by Newton perhaps the Bills lose that game. This year he will get a full offseason with the team, training camp, preseason. I kinda doubt he will remain the starting QB all season as the Patriots could add a QB in the draft. Mac Jones? In 2019 the Patriots fielded the #1 defense in the league and in 2020, 8 players opted to sit out the season. NE finished 7-9 and fielded the #7 defense in points allowed. No question in my view that they will field a formidable defense in 2021. They get Hightower back this season and signed Ravens LB Matt Judon. Let's not forget, that as much as we hate Bill Belichick, he is a master at setting up a defense and figuring out how to beat/shut down an offense. 2021 Not gonna be a cakewalk like so many think it might be. The AFC East should be a much improved division. The Buffalo Bills still need to figure out how to beat the Kansas City Chiefs! Who they play in 2021, along with the Bucs! -

The 2020 Buffalo Bills didn't win the SB and to read some of the stuff posted... most fans think they did! The Bills were OWNED by the Chiefs! Not once, but twice. The vaunted Bills passing game fell on its face at times. No run game. The defense gave up too many big plays. What a lot of Bills fans don't get is that last season with Covid no preseason games and no time for defenses to get up to speed. So the offenses (Buffalo) took off in scoring at the start. Plus, the league wanted exciting high scoring games, hence the non holding calls on offensive line players. The AFC East was a very weak division last year in 2020 and its why the Bills swept them. Even then, it took a fumble by Newton to lose the last Pats game for them. The Patriots will be an improved team and the might just draft a QB to groom behind Newton. Lets not forget that the 2019 Pats were the #1 defense in the league! * players opted out last year and they are returning for 2021. The Jets will be better without crazy eyes as HC and so many draft picks. The Dolphins should be better with so many draft picks. Winning the AFC East should be much more difficult in 2021. It's gonna be interesting to see if the Bills offensive line will be good enough this season...or if they can get that run game working. -

Imagine, If Beane got a 3rd rounder for Tyrod...

Last season Cam Newton was a late signing and he had little opportunity to work with the team in getting ready for the season. Also, Covid took him out for a few games. He had a crap receiver corps with little talent. Plus, he was coming off and injury that saw his former team give up on him. Lots of reasons why Newton looked so bad last season...Its really not him that's the biggest concern as the Patriots are gearing up to go "old school" on the NFL. Meaning, they will work that run game till opposing teams are exhausted from chasing Cam and the Pats RB's all over the field. BTW, "old school run game" has worked recently with the Vikings, 49ers, Titans, Ravens and others. My biggest concern was that the Patriots fielded the #1 defense in 2019, #2 in pass yards allowed, #6 in rush yards allowed. That was with eight Pats players opted to sit out the 2020 season. Now, not only will those returning players like pro bowl LBer Dont'a Hightower be back...looking at free agency they boosted their defense and pass rush with ex Ravens LB Matt Judon. The Patriots should be a huge concern in 2021 and could probably beat Buffalo with Belichick at QB. Buffalo had better fix their run defense and run game. #17th in rush yards allowed isn't good enough...nor is #20th in rushing. This season all teams should have a better off season to prepare for the regular season and there shouldn't be defenses not up to speed at the start of the season like in 2020. The Patriots will be a better team. The Jets with all those draft picks, a defensive minded HC who built a strong defense in SF will be a better team. The Dolphins with all those draft picks should improve. The AFC East should be the leagues best division in 2021. JMO

The Bears Went HAM After Wilson, Still Came Up Empty Handed

Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Nihilarian replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This! A good TE can be a QB's best friend and although Wentz and that eggels offense was a hot mess...Philly TE Dallas Goedert looked like Ertz of old and he had a 70% catch percentage with that same hot mess of an offense. Lets trade for Goedert! Ertz, 11 games, 11 game starts. 72 targets, 36 rec for 335 yards, 1 TD a 50% catch percentage. *Although, Ertz was dealing with a high ankle sprain in 2020 and it does remain to be seen if he can regain his old form. Apparently, the Eagles don't think so. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
Nihilarian replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ertz might have been good in his prime... last season he had a 56.7% catch percentage! I highly doubt Beane will trade anything for this player. OTOH, Eggils TE Dallas Goedert had a 70.8% catch percentage.
