Gameday Bills vs Pats* Postgame Thread

Not really sure what your problem is... but Brandon Beane was the NFL executive of the year for a reason! The very last man this team needs to fire is the second coming of Bill Polian. Perhaps he is even better than Polian. McD isn't going anywhere either. You do realize that no playoffs in Buffalo for nearly 20 seasons. In2017 under McD, playoffs! 2019 under McD playoffs! 2020 under McD 13-3, PLAYOFFS and the AFC Championship game. Yes, this loss burns badly. However, the 2020 7-5 Buffalo Bills are still in a Wildcard spot in the 7th seed. They still play the Bucs, Panthers, Patriots, Falcons, Jets. 10-7 looking like a real probability. Changes will come and it will be on offense! -

I can tell you this... barking up the wrong tree here. This isn't on Beane in the least. The Buffalo Bills just lost to the team that leads the AFC in the 8-4 NE Patriots. A team that fields the #1 defense in points allowed and has a run first offense, game manager at QB. Perfect for the conditions in Buffalo tonight. Previous to this game the 2021 Buffalo Bills were on offense, the #2 in points scored, #4 in yards. On defense #2 in points allowed, #1 in yards allowed. Pats QB Mac Jones 2 of 3 for 19 yards... The Bills were out coached this game... they were also out coached by the LOWLY Jags, 6-10. C'mon, ONLY 6 points scored against the Jacksonville Jaguars...and you have a problem with the GM?? -

He did get owned pretty badly at times in this NE game and the guy does have a sitting on the edge with concussions problem. Although, most of the time he is the lone bright spot on that O line this season. Also, I still think Buffalo should have drafted Creed Humphrey over Boogie at that #2 spot. -

Looking back, I now think that the rumors of Buffalo taking RB Najee Harries might have been true. Granted he is averaging only 3.6 YPC behind that crappy Steelers line. But that guy is a beast and would really would have been an upgrade in Buffalo. -

Simply put, if the OC wants to commit to building a decent ground game and practices enough at it the players will get better at doing just that. Look at the amount of runs by the Bills RBs each game. Colts game 11 carries total between three backs, 5, 3, 3. Jags game RB carries 6, 3. which is typical for the Balls OC to call for Buffalo RB's all season. 11 carries a game, 9 carries total in a game by the Bills RBs. For an example, the Colts give Taylor 32 touches, 21 touches in another, against Buffalo 32 touches again. In order to run the ball effectively the Buffalo RB's need to have more than a few touches per game. Singletary is averaging 4.7 YPC AVG which isn't all that bad considering he doesn't get that many touches a game. Breida is at 5.2. This game the New England Patriots ran the ball 46 times against Buffalo vs 19 for Bills RB's. Half the time the Bills don't even attempt to try and run the ball other than using it as a distraction...perhaps for play action purposes. It is the OC!! McD even stated after the Colts game that the team relied on the QB to much to carry the game and the team needed to run more...which it hasn't done. Change is coming! -

I wonder if this FO would even consider doing what the Colts did in drafting an OG #6 overall in Quinten Nelson? Or even drafting an OG with that first round pick at all? Well, sometimes there are some really good O line players that bad teams consider expendable because of their salary. The Bills did good with center Mitch Morse. Now they just need to find some decent OGs and perhaps even a new LT. -

I'm not going to dis on the man who drafted Josh Allen when the rest of the Bills fans world wanted Josh Rosen. So many here were posting that the Bills should have given up the farm to trade to the #2 spot with the Giants for Rosen...now that would have been bad!!! I don't get who they missed on to draft Ford? NFN, but a GM is only as good as his scouts and offensive coaches who all have input into those picks. Ford was a human road grader at Oklahoma and looked to be a good pick at #38. Besides, there is something amiss with these Buffalo coaches/scouts. Whose bright idea was it to draft Nate Peterman in 2017 and then start him against the Ravens in 2018? Whose idea was it that OG Wyatt Teller was expendable... over who? This FO/coaching staff saw first hand what a good pro bowl OG looks like in Richie Incognito. Well, some of them did. This offense in scoring only 10 points reminds me how bad the offense can be at times...like the 6-10 loss to the lowly 1-6 Jags. The bigger problem is the lack of a run game by the RB's along with the play calling. -

I agree. Alas, I also think that this case with personnel... it is more of a case of an OC who lacks the concept of building a power run game. Kind of like when Greg Roman was the Bills OC and the team failed to build a decent passing game. Building a power run game does a few things. Keeps the offense on the field making first down after first down, see 2021 Colts & Titans, 49ers 2019. The difference between the 2018 Green bay Packers and the 2019 GB Packers. Controls the clock and keeps the opposing QB off the field. See the 1990 Buffalo Bills in the SB. -

I'm not puzzled bout the offensive plays. The guy is doing what he is being paid to do...by both teams... On some other notes. But, but, but, it's a passing league...no need to run and stop the run right? This game was my worst nightmare as now I can't watch football shows all week as ole smiley and his wunderkin QB will be all they talk about. This game reminds me of when Dick Jauron was the head coach in 2009. In a week 17 bad windstorm in Buffalo as the Bills lost that game with Pats QB Matt Cassel 6 of 8 for 78 yards. But the pats rushed 47 times for 168 yards and a TD to win 0-13!! Now you would think at some point that one of these GD Bills HD's would take a look at the past history of the weather in that stadium and realize you NEED A FREAKING RUN GAME! Along with a defense that can stop the run. Not at you OP, just venting... -
What teams do you fear playing in the PLAYOFFS the most?
Nihilarian replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
My biggest fear is this team not getting their head outta their own ass... coaches...players! To lose to a 1-6 Jags team by the score of 6-9 with all the offensive talent on this team... If this O line gives Josh time he will tear any defense a new one... provided the Bills OC is actually utilizing his brain with the game plan, play calls. Last season this Buffalo offense tore up teams like Seattle, San Fran, Pittsburgh, Denver, Miami with their #1 defense...swept the Patriots... ole smiley threw his sideline phone in a fit when things didn't go his way. Buffalo 39, New England 9! Since last seasons playoffs something has changed for the worse with the play calls, game plans regarding decent teams. The Bills get it sorted out and this team can go on a 6 game win streak. 13-4 GO BILLS. -
SNF: Cleveland Browns at Baltimore Ravens
Nihilarian replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
I, for one, am extremely grateful that the Browns chose Mayfield with that #1 overall in 2018. Considering he is in a run first offense...that couldn't run. Hunt, 7 rushes for 20 yards a 2.9 YPC AVG. Chubb 8 carries for 16 yards a 2.0 YPC AVG. Mostly because the defense doesn't fear the pass at all. Mayfield stinks! That Browns rushing game was #1 in rush yards, #1 in rush TDs, #1 in YPC AVG until this Ravens game. That Ravens defense isn't all that good this year and the Browns had no answer on offense. Four turnovers usually kills a team...not tonight! -
With Brian Daboll bringing in the NE playbook this is exactly how I'd hoped the Bills would run their offense in 2018. Look how quickly Jones has developed in that scheme...just like Brady. Continue the development and evolution an you possibly have another Brady...only in Buffalo. Now, Allen has developed quite well. But, alas, I put that more on his own fierce work ethic and determination over the OC who used to bellow at him on the sidelines. This season has shown that the current OC has his flaws in not being able to counter that cover 2 shell scheme quicker then midway through the season. The Bills are just lucky that Allen is so big, tough and not a Baker Mayfield or he would have probably been done for the season games ago...if he would have even made it this far from 2018. I'm very happy the Bills stepped up with that quick passing game along with play action against the Saints. Although, that was against the #10 NO defense and Saints team loaded with injuries. The Patriots are currently fielding the #1 defense in points allowed, #6 in passing yards allowed. #2 in passing TDs allowed and this with not playing the injury riddled Titans. Hopefully, this extra time off will allow the Buffalo coaches to put together a game plan to shutdown that Pats rookie QB or rattle him... 🤞

I agree as it made my turkey day a very happy one. Kind of amazing that now my week is much brighter and I can watch the football shows... all from one win. The Bills changed up the offense and got that ball out quicker and it helped in so many ways. Even without a stout run game that play action still worked. Lets hope Tre is ok and they do well against NE on MNF.

Week 12: Bills at Saints on Thanksgiving
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnqHOl7dbkE&ab_channel=IndianapolisColts Live by the pass...die by the pass...and get destroyed by the run. Err well, dominated by the run. This team was built to stop Tom Brady and the NE passing game. Sadly, Brady is now in Tampa and the NE offense is now a mix of run first, QB game management. The 2021 Buffalo Bills are geared / rostered to stop the pass and on offense it's all about the passing game. It's a passing league now right? So many Bills fans here posting last season that they don't care if the Bills don't have a good run game as they can throw it like nobody...save Rodgers and Mahomes, right? Currently the NO Saints might just be reeling more than the Buffalo Bills what with all their injuries and missing so many star players. Still, this team can run the ball and if their top 10 defense plays a "cover 2 shell" will the Saints pull off a Jags like win? 6-9? The Buffalo Bills on offense...keep doing what you have been doing all year...even though it isn't working anymore...just keep doing it. On defense, keep getting gashed in the run game and the team doesn't make any realistic changes to their lineup or rotation? Try some GD thing to make a difference...stack the box, run blitz...something. But, no! Just keep doing it... I have no faith that this team even sniffs the playoffs this season. Suppose the Patriots beat the Titans this week and the road to the SB goes through NE? -

The thing is, when the Bills beat the Cowboys on Turkey day they had signed Beese away from the Boys and he knew their playbook. Probably gave them some info on what the defense does too. This game...the way these guys are playing...It's like they will just show up to a game and win it. Buffalo Bills fans were embarrassed by this teams play against the Colts, Jags...the players should be too. Its like both assistant coaches DC Frazier and OC Daboll were both watching cartoons instead of doing their jobs on Sunday. I have no faith in this team righting itself against a top 10 Saints defense or against a Sean Payton coached team. If I were McD, I'd think about demoting both DC & OC if this is another embarrassing loss! -

Man, good thing the Bills D stayed in nickle D as they really shut down Carson Wentz... -
I don't fully agree with this. Tough to stop the run playing the entire game in a nickle defense. The Bills could run the ball "if" they focused on doing just that. Instead they keep focused on that mid to deep passing game that most every team has figured out how to defend. I don't get how an offense refuses to overcome a scheme that can be beaten by a certain defense. McD needs to have his assistants make some scheme changes or this team doesn't even sniff the playoffs in 2021.

Week 12: Bills at Saints on Thanksgiving

Looking back at last offseason the only team with real interest in hiring Brian Daboll as HC were the Chargers. Who brilliantly chose Rams DC, Brandon Staley as their new HC instead. He chose the Saints QB coach to run his offense, Joe Lombardi. Mind you, the Chargers have a top 10 offense and most of that is their passing offense, which is around top 10. 25th in rushing attempts, 21st in rushing yards. Now this team knows how to utilize a RB in their passing scheme and running the ball. RB Austin Ekeler 573 yards rushing, 7 TDs, 405 yards receiving 6 TDs. Watching that Chargers-Steelers game on Sunday night made me so very jealous of a team that knows how to utilize a RB. A terrific Chargers win, with with their young QB making a comeback at the end of the game. Justin Herbert, 30 of 41 for 382, 3 TDs, 1 INT. 9 rush attempts for 90 yards. -

It does matter...it matters a lot. The NY Jets refused to run that Cover 2 shell which has been kryptonite for the Bills passing attack and stayed in cover 3. They have little or no pass rush anyway. The Dolphins kept attempting to play man defense with literally no pass rush and the Miami DBs, as good as they are... couldn't keep contain with no pass rush. Not to mention that every one of those teams the Bills have beaten have a defense ranked near last in the NFL 28th thru 32nd. (Save KC, 20th) The Saints are currently 5-5 and have a legit top 10 defense. The only good thing is the Saints defense is 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed, 22nd in passing yards allowed. Yet, if the Saints go to a cover 2 shell I'm not very hopeful the Bills passing game will suddenly right itself...not with Daboll calling plays. It still blows my mind that this years Buffalo Bills offense only put up 6 points against the 28th ranked Jaguars defense... a 1-6 team. Serious changes should have been made after that game! -

AND look at who they did that to... 4-7 Miami Dolphins 2x 2-8 Jets 2-8 Texans 4-6 Washington The only team the Bills beat this year that is somewhat decent was the now 7-4 KC Chiefs who were 2-3 in week 5 and reeling. A revenge game from last seasons loss in the AFCCG. -

I agree and the world is aware of the circumstances the Bills O line is going through. Losing one RT shouldn't be that huge of a drop off that the OC can't work around it. It wasn't like the Bills were facing the Bucs in the SB like Mahomes was...this was the 28th ranked Jaguars who were 1-6 and the worst team in the league the last few seasons. Was Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen under a lot of pressure in that Jags game, 23 blitzes, 14 harries, 23 pressures, 4 sacks. YES! Good offensive coordinators will figure workarounds for the offense to counter that pass rush pressure. An example? The Miami Dolphins! That first game Tua was under so much pressure from the Bills D line he was helpless and eventually knocked out of the game. His backup fared no better, However, in their second game the Dolphins offense counted that fearsome Buffalo pass rush by throwing quick outs, slants and getting the football out before the rush could get to Tua. First Miami game, 35-0, 4 sacks, 11 QB hits on Dolphins QB's. Miami couldn't run, couldn't throw...sound familiar? Second Miami game, 26-11, 2 sacks, 6 QB hits on Dolphins QB's. Two Miami turnovers helped the Bills win that game. COLTS GAME. Buffalo has a lot of talent on offense and as another poster mentioned. Bills RB Matt Breida was the Bills leading rusher in that Colts game...for 5 carries, 51 yards a 10.2 YPC AVG. Josh Allen 2 carries for 18 yards, a 9.0 YPC AVG. Devin Singletary 3 carries for 17 yards, a 5.7 YPC AVG. Zach Moss 3 carries for 5 yards, a 1.7 YPC AVG. Bills rushed for a total of 13 carries and 11 for Bills RB's vs 46 rushes for Indy. Matt Brieda running the ball was working and the Bills OC stopped calling his number and started calling Moss's. The problem as I see it is the Buffalo Bills OC. -

That 6 points against the 28th ranked Jags defense is still causing me to think that something is way, way off with the Buffalo offense. To me, it's ludicrous that a professional NFL OC refuses to switch up his offense that is no longer working to something that will work. And, when he does find something that actually works he stops using it. I simply don't trust Brian Daboll. Either the man is completely inept to construct an offense other than the mid to deep passing scheme he has helped develop in Buffalo...OR...those 11 seasons with the Patriots as an assistant coach... Let's not forget that the guy spent a year with Nick Saban as the Alabama OC and I gotta wonder who gave him a recommendation for that job...coming from NE as TE's coach. Belichick and Saban have been close since their Cleveland Browns days. Just saying... -
Week 12: Bills at Saints on Thanksgiving
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
After reading through this thread a lot of you are attempting to put the blame on that blowout loss to the Colts on the HC...McD doesn't call the offensive or defensive plays. While not being able to stop the run at all against the Titans... and now the Colts tells me the defense has some serious scheme limitations. Staying in Nickle defense all game while being gashed like that was more than foolish. Star was in the Titans game and that Bills defense still gave up 143 rushing yards on 20 attempts, 3 TDs to Derrick Henry. At the same time, what the hell happened to the #1 scoring offense? Suddenly the best WR in the NFL last season along with a QB in MVP talk can't score more than 6 points on the 28th ranked Jags defense? This Buffalo high powered, high scoring prolific offense can't figure out how to beat a "cover 2 shell" defense...even against a crappy team like the Jags? The Buffalo Bills 6 points scored against a #28th ranked Jags defense this offense should have destroyed... Something is going on with this team...and it starts with the offense. If the Bills offense scores first and keeps passing, scoring on the Colts... they forget about running the ball and go into passing mode which actually fits what that Buffalo defense does best. 15 points against a 20th or so ranked Colts defense this offense should have destroyed with their passing game. Allen and Diggs were still out there, Sanders is still out there, as was Knox, Davis and Beese. If the Bills offensive line can hold a block for two seconds the Bills should move to a passing scheme that allows the QB to get the ball out quicker and as the opponent moves up to stop that, it should allow the mid to deep passes open up. If I'm McD, I'd start thinking about relieving the Bills OC from his duties, game planning, play calling. Something needs to change as this offense has far, far to much talent on this offense to be shut down by any particular offensive scheme.
