Brady throws off his backfoot under pressure and its a near TD in the red zone... Allen does the same and its an INT.

While I do agree that a heavy pass rush has been Allen's Kryptonite... since 2018 in his very first game against the Ravens. Baltimore dialed up the blitz and neither he, nor Peterman had an answer for it. About that first 2018 game, a 3-47 loss with Bills QB's getting sacked 6x. Nathan Peterman played 3 quarters and went 5 of 18 for 24 yards, 2 INTs, 3x sacks. That final INT went for a Ravens TD. 11:22 to go in the 3rd quarter. First play was RB Murphy off RG for 3 yards, Allen's very first pass was deep right for Zay Jones, incomplete! Third play of that drive was a sack -4 yards. Even Peterman was attempting some long throws in this game. Now, why in the world would these two QB's be throwing deep at any point in this game given the tremendous pass rush by the Ravens? The very first series of this game the Ravens scored! Peterman came in and threw 2 short passes and on 3rd and 11 he got his first sack attempting his third down pass. This whole thing tells me a few things. First off, QB Nathan Peterman was no where near ready to start that game at QB for Buffalo, and yet he got the start! The team had no veteran QB on roster other then the guy who had started two games in 2017. Second, it tells me that this OC had no clue about the defense his offense was facing or how to defeat it with two young QBs, one a rookie and the other very limited game experience. The Bills RB's in this game were Marcus Murphy (6 rushes for 31) yards and LeSean McCoy (7 rushes for 22 yards) Chris Ivory (3 rushes for 3 yards) a total of 16 rush attempts by the Bills RBs this day. Peterman had one rush for one yard. Allen went 4 for 26. This entire game is a harbinger of what's to come for the Buffalo Bills. It tells me that Bills OC Brian Daboll had no clue about his QBs. This also says that his game plan stunk from the start. The Bills couldn't run... 16 rushes for 59 yards by the RBs. 33 pass attempts by QB's who were always under extreme duress from a fierce Ravens pass rush. You seem to think that Allen has autonomy out on the field and does whatever he wants. He doesn't, and no QB in the current NFL calls their own plays AFAIK. This Bills OC has been setting up his offense with mid to deep pass plays that don't work very well against a heavy rush. Those plays take 3-5-7 second drop backs for them to develop properly and the QB simply doesn't have that time in the pocket. This crap has been going on for forever with Daboll. In 2019 against the Ravens, Allen sacked 6x while attempting 39 passes. This OC is going to run his offense and it's all on the QB to make it work! "" It begs you to run the ball and throw quick short passes and execute 12 + play drives for touchdowns. "" Isn't this the New England playbook year after year with Tom Brady, and now with Mac Jones? Power run game, move the chains again and again get to the red zone and score. In my view this is all on the Buffalo offensive coordinator who fails to build a decent ground game and puts everything on the QB. His offense calls for a lot of mid to deep passes regardless of the defense the team is facing. Allen made Daboll and not the other way around!

The Buffalo Bills were built to stop Tom Brady in New England and his passing offense! It's why the defense plays mostly in the Nickle all game long. The offense was built to compete with that NE passing game because they knew they would need to score a ton to keep up with them. Now that the Patriots have moved on from Brady they went back to what won for them when Brady was first in the league. A stout run attack which allows the QB to manage the game and just make first downs. Of course, along with a top defense which is ole smileys forte. The problem is the Bills were so intent on stopping the pass... it made them weak against the run. They drafted smaller, quicker D linemen to get to the QB faster. This allowed them to be more susceptible to an opposing power run game. On offense the Bills were every explosive until...they ran into teams with a stout front four which also ran a cover 2 shell defense. Suddenly, the Bills OC hasn't been able to figure out a way to scheme against this type of defense successfully. Heavy pass rush, cover 2 shell = screwed on offense for Buffalo! Hard to believe that as explosive as this offense was in 2020. That they would fall to a 1-6 Jacksonville Jaguars team 6-10 with the 30th ranked defense because the Bills OC simply doesn't have the wherewithal to have his offense counter that horrifically bad team and couldn't score more than 6 points!!! ... against a team that was 1-15 last season and 1-6 when they played Buffalo. Currently the Jags are 2-10. How the guy still has a job as the Bills OC is beyond me. Is it because the Bills beat Miami 2x, a team that has no pass rush and plays in man coverage? Or the Jets who also have no pass rush and ran a cover 3? The Bills also beat Washington, Houston, New Orleans all those teams playing with back up QBs. This next game. I kind of doubt the Bills will have a good game on the road against the 9-3 Tom Brady led Bucs...

Brian Daboll to the passing offense is like what Greg Roman was to the running offense. Just keep passing, just keep passing... I still have difficulty understanding why this OC can't figure out how to defeat a cover 2 shell defense. Something he should have done in the second half of the very first game the Bills saw it. Half the season gone and he is still having trouble with it.

All teams make mistakes in football at times. It's because they are playing with an oblong spheroid that sometimes bounces funny. The Bills are soft...mentality soft that is... and that is on the coaching IMO. Why on earth does the team stay in a Nickle defense when they are being gashed so badly on the ground. Oh, but if we stack the box we should be able to stop the run the DC says...how'd that work out against the Colts, Titans, Patriots? I say horse hockey! Change the scheme and put some bigger bodies up front to stop the run and force them to pass. The Bills still have one of the best secondary's in the NFL. On offense, this OC can't figure out how to defeat a cover 2 shell by the second half of a game...much less after half the season? How in the world does this explosive offense with one of the best receiver corps in the NFL only score 6 points against the 30th ranked defense of the 1-6 Jaguars? Oh but the QB is under constant duress because of the pass rush. We don't know how to stop that pass rush from happening...mostly because the team can't run...even though we tried to run at least six times with the main RB. Nothing we can do but keep calling for passes and hope that young QB can pull us out of this... McD should have benched Daboll after that Jags game. The guys is just living up to his lousy past history of coaching bad offenses. He stunk in Cleveland as OC, he stunk in Miami as OC, he stunk in KC as OC. This is the guy who thought Nathan Peterman should start ahead of Allen in 2018. Oh, Peterman was ready... Daboll might have the Patriots playbook but he sure doesn't know how to utilize it like they do. All he knows is pass, pass, pass and when that doesn't work...keep passing. So far the Bills beat Miami 2x, Washington, Houston, NY Jets, NO Saints...all those teams were playing with backup QBs. The ONLY team the Bills beat that was half way decent were the KC Chiefs in week 5, and they were reeling at that time with a 2-3 record. Mahomes was in disarray while attempting to pull off a Josh Allen by trying much too hard to carry his team. McD should put these assistant coaches on notice. JMO.

Why does everyone now think the Buffalo Bills need to run the ball more? Simply put, because opposing teams have found ways to put extreme pressure on Allen while keeping him contained from running. Then, they have also found ways to stop that vaunted Bills passing attack. Diggs, Sanders, Gabe Davis, Knox all on the field and suddenly teams with bad stat defenses are clamping down on the Buffalo passing scheme. The Colts were 28th. The Jags were 30th. Tennessee was 25th when they played the Bills. Can't pass the ball...blame it on the O line pass blocking. Can't run the ball...blame it on the stinky Bills RB's & poor play by the O line. Hey! This is the NFL and teams will always figure out what you are doing on offense and work out ways to stop it. If you keep doing the same thing over and over... opponents will figure out a way to stop it. Where is the innovation on offense? Where are the adjustments to counter what the defense is doing? What's going on with the game planning / play calling this season? On a different note. Tom Brady finds a way to win no matter what team he plays for. Peyton Manning did the very same thing when he changed teams. Right now Josh Allen doesn't have that type of game experience and neither did Brady, Manning in their first few seasons. I don't know about firing anyone at this point in the season. However, I do think that McD needs to plant his foot in some dark places. If not that... then perhaps allowing others a shot the game plans, play calling for a game or two. Ken Dorsey? At this point it might be worth it to see if he can run the offense for the future. Or, on that last point wait until after they don't make the playoffs... Just to point out that Marv Levy went from Jim Ringo after the 1988 12-4 season to former Colts HC Ted Marchibroda. He taught Jim Kelly to call his own plays. The Buffalo offense was so good that Ted was rehired by the Colts to be their HC again after the 1991 season. It was okay though as Jim Kelly was experienced enough to now run that offense without Ted.

The Colts run the ball 20 to 32 times in ONE game with RB Johnathan Taylor. That 32 times was against Buffalo. Funny thing, that when the Colts Taylor doesn't run more than 14 times they usually lose. The Buffalo Bills Devin Singletary runs between 3 carries and 15 each game...and that lone 15 game carry was a WIN against the Saints. His carries for the season 10-15-3-7-6-7-5-6-14-11-13-11. The 14 carry was a win. The 13 carry was also a win. Most of the time the Bills simply don't run the ball enough by one back to have him be effective in a game. Tough for me to blame the RBs when they don't see the ball enough each game. The Bills QB looks to be the teams leading rusher all too often.

Man, do I agree with this. Mind you, Daboll has shown he can build a powerful passing offensive scheme. But, what kind of an OC can't figure out how to defeat a cover 2 shell defensive scheme? Isn't that the scheme that Peyton Manning used to destroy all the time? The Buffalo Bills have far, far too much talent on offense to be scoring such low points against some scrub defenses this season. Also, the Bills have to run the ball by the RB's more than 8 times in a game to have them be somewhat effective. I think this might have taken a toll as he lost both his childhood caregivers in three weeks this season. Alas, I think the decline of the high scoring offense against better defenses started during the playoffs last season.

Agreed. Since last seasons jump into the playoffs this Buffalo offense just hasn't been the same. That 2020 Buffalo Bills team beat the Patriots in New England 38-9 with ole smiley slamming down his sideline phone during that loss. WOWSER! Best feeling as a Bills fan in forever!!! The next game the Bills beat the Dolphins 56-26 in week 17. After that the offense went into a funk as they barely beat the Colts 27-24 in that first WC game. Went on to play the Ravens in Buffalo for the next game and the offense only scored 10 points all game. The conspiracy theorist in me starts to think...did Billionaire Patriots owner Robert Kraft make a promise or something to the Bills OC Brian Daboll who worked for 11 seasons in NE... to reign in that budding super star the Bills have at QB? Or, has the Bills OC just been stymied by opposing defenses in figuring out the Buffalo passing offense? Hard for me to believe that this passing offense could be held in check by a cover 2 shell defense so easily and against such bad defenses. Jacksonville 30th. Colts 28th. Pittsburgh 22nd. Tennessee 23rd. at least the Patriots had a top 3 defense. That home opener loss to the Steelers 16-23, the loss to Jacksonville 6-10! The loss to the Colts 15-41...the Bills offense gets up in the score in that game early and the complexation of the entire game changes as now the Colts playing from behind fall into Buffalo's defensive scheme where Wentz usually falls on his face. And now only 10 points against the Patriots in a windstorm. Just keep running up the middle...and when the offense makes 8 yards on those two runs...throw it on 3rd and two. Yes, it's team game and yes the offense had its problems with drops in a windstorm. Still, 25 runs by the Bills vs 46 runs by the Patriots tells the story. Far, far to much is still being put on Josh Allen's shoulders to carry the offense. While the game plans/play calls aren't up to the task of helping the QB. Diggs has shown that he is basically uncoverable and yet they can't get him the ball enough. 7 targets, 4 receptions? Cole Beasley is another who is basically uncoverable and is almost always open, 3 targets, 1 reception? Seriously, all game 3 targets? All toll, Buffalo passing, 30 targets, 15 receptions... vs 25 runs in a windstorm and how many of those runs up the middle into the strength of that Patriots defense? Until the Buffalo Bills, Bills OC Brian Daboll had a poor history as an NFL OC with his passing offenses in the 20's for four seasons, 32nd to 22nd. With Josh Allen at QB the Bills passing yards, 31st in 2018, 26th in 2019, 3rd in 2020, 1st for awhile in 2021. Now sliding back to 8th in passing yards. Me, I would have thought some offensive changes would have been made after that 6-10 loss to the lowly 1-6 Jacksonville Jaguars. A darn shame that this seasons defense that is so good is being wasted because of such an underwhelming offense.

The thing about Tomlin is... that he has had Big Ben for his entire time as the Steelers head coach. Nobody behind Ben worth a darn too. Tomlin is noted to be a good defensive mind and they usually have a decent defense. Not this season and they are fading on both sides of the ball. they found the right RB but their line is poor. In Buffalo this all comes down to the offense being bad almost all season against teams they should beat. How in the world does a cover 2 shell defense stop this much talent on offense for so many games? Suddenly the Bills can't score points. I keep going back to the 6 points scored against Jacksonville with the 30th ranked defense and the Bills just keep going with the same old, same old because they can beat the Jets along with some other bad teams. Something changed somewhere in Buffalo on offense since last seasons playoff games. In 2020 after destroying the Patriots 38-9 IN New England, beating Miami 56-26 week 17. They slow down against the Colts 27-24 in a WC game and only score 10 offensive points against the Ravens. That first game of the 2021 season in a 16-23 loss to the Steelers...

Well, I did say "somewhat" replace as in giving the guy some time off to grieve. The Bills did quietly promote QB coach Ken Dorsey to passing game coordinator so if JIC Daboll were hired away they would have a replacement. Also that Tennessee game if they score on that final run up the middle on 4th and one...they win. And yes, he was fired in Jacksonville by the guy who gave him his first job as an NFL OC. AFAIK Packers head coach Matt LaFleur calls the plays in Green Bay. BTW, how did Blake Bortles development go?

The ONLY guy I would look to somewhat replace is Brian Daboll. If I were McD I would have made a change after that miserable Jags game. How does the #1 offense in the league lose to a 1-6 team... that was 30th in defense... in only scoring 6 points all game? Perhaps Dabs is still in despair over losing his primary childhood caregivers in that he lost both his grandparents in three weeks. He found out about his grandfather just before that Tennessee game. He lost his grandmother three weeks earlier. Give the man a leave of absence to clear his head...
