Glazer: Bills called about kamara, turned down
Nihilarian replied to Steel City Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't believe this as it takes some players time to acclimate to the pro game, protections, schemes, routes. I don't want some toad rookie out there letting Josh Allen get killed because he doesn't know who to block. Marshawn Lynch was like that at first. Just now we are finding out that the Bills never made a serious offer to Carolina for CMC...so who knows. -
How in the hell did Nathaniel Hackett become an NFL head coach?
Nihilarian replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall
"Nathaniel Hackett, Denver Broncos It has been a crap show all season for Nathaniel Hackett and his bizarre decision-making and it just got even worse in Week 5 when the Broncos lost 12-9 to the Colts in overtime. For a team that has quarterback Russell Wilson and talented young players like Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and Javonte Williams, you have to wonder what is going wrong for the Broncos, especially considering their schedule so far has been relatively easy. Hackett is looking like a one-and-done coach for the Broncos." https://en.as.com/nfl/which-nfl-head-coaches-are-on-the-hot-seat-entering-week-6-n/ Rumor has it... that should the 2-5 Broncos fall on their face against the 2-5 Jacksonville Jags in London... Apparently, new Denver ownerships is downright embarrassed about the teams recent decline and are thinking about replacing the current HC with their DC who is doing a darn good job with the defense despite the failing offense. Ejiro Evero Denver has a bye week after this weeks game and changes could be coming. -
Funny thing is he stated that he thought Allen was hot garbage in 2019. I can't deny that I really enjoyed that Monday night game 😋

Great question! He was hired to be the Packers OC and yet he didn't call the offensive plays at all. He is a great guy who the players really like and I'd like to think he helped with the game planning... but who knows? I was kinda shocked when I read he was hired as the Broncos HC. I can only think a big reason was that he would be there when GB traded Rodgers to Denver...which never happened. Instead they gave up the farm for Wilson. The guy sucks so bad at setting up an offense he is making Russell Wilson look like a bum. I highly doubt he lasts the season as HC. The 2-5 Denver Broncos with a top 5 defense is going to waste because the offense stinks so badly. -
How did Allen not dominate in college?
Nihilarian replied to C.Biscuit97's topic in The Stadium Wall
I can't recall that I've ever heard of, or have seen a QB work as hard to perfect his craft as Josh Allen. He knew when he was being evaluated for the draft what his faults were and was working on them at that time. Josh was working with Jordan Palmer before the 2018 NFL draft and he continues to work with Palmer to perfect his craft every offseason since. It was more Palmer working on his mechanics. How smart is Josh Allen? He scored a 37 on the NFL Wonderlic. What does that score mean? https://wonderlictestpractice.com/wonderlic-test-scoring/ A score in the 98th percentile or above qualifies a person for Mensa membership. Josh grew up working on the family farm so that is where he probably garnered that amazing work ethic of his. What would you rather do...work on the farm or play football? The kid had no scholarship offers so his first year so he attended Reedly Community college. Out of high school he was 6'3'' 180 lb scrawny kid so that no scholarship was offered. Yes, that's Derek Carr. -

And he basically played with a bunch of nobody's and they still made it to bowl games. In his final year it at Wyoming every player on offense that had touched the ball the previous season was gone. The simple fact is that his 56% accuracy in college kept him from being drafted by the Browns, Jets, Broncos, NY Giants...to Bills fans great joy...well, at least after a season or two!! -
My take is some of the posters here kinda under estimate RB James Cook and WR Kalil Shakir. Both are really good players and the more they play the more they develop as both have the talent, skill set to become very good. Both those rooks have shown flashes of what they can do and the more they play the more they will show how good they can become. Currently the 2022 the Buffalo Bills offense is #2 in points scored, #1 in yards. #1 passing offense in yards, TDs. The Bills defense is #1 in points allowed, #2 in yards allowed, #11 in passing yards allowed. #1 in rush yards allowed. Tre back at some point so the defense will get even better. The defensive rookies are looking good too. Keep the picks and work the rookies. JMO

When you add a player like CMC you take away touches from the current stars on the Buffalo offense. Last game, Diggs, 10 receptions for 148 yards, 1 TD. Davis, 3 for 74 yards, 1 TD, Knox 3 for 37, 1 TD. With Singletary finally getting a decent amount of carries in this game, 17 for 85 yards, a 5.0 YPC AVG. If the Bills had an ordinary franchise QB behind center a trade for an elite RB might make sense...they don't! The Bills have an "alien unicorn" who does things the entire NFL world marvels at...he can hurtle tall defenders in a single bound! Give Cook time to develop and there will be no need for CMC is my take...a younger, healthier, faster player. CMC 4.48-40. Cook 4.42-40. JMO

Make no mistake, Brian Daboll was brilliant in certain aspects of being an NFL OC! His game planning and setting up the passing scheme against opponents was remarkable at times. Then again, he had some flaws as he would get overly pass happy at times, even when Josh was under extreme duress and had great difficulty in completing passes. While also sometimes ignoring the run game altogether. Daboll certainly helped Josh learn how to read NFL defenses and run an NFL offense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEfF6ceLkp8&ab_channel=NFL I'm just so grateful that Cleveland 2x, the NY Jets passed on Josh. Not to mention Indy, Denver, NY Giants.
-
Two words....Don "Wink" Martindale. NY Giants DC is doing a good job with that defense. Daboll is doing is also doing a good job with the team as HC. Assistants are a big reason why teams play well or not. Gotta wonder if ole Wink is being missed in Baltimore? Lets not forget that his OC is Mike Kafka who was the KC Chiefs QB coach. P.S. Josh Allen "that alien unicorn" would make Nathaniel Hackett look good.

All I gotta say is...can he play OG? Defense wins Championships! Plus, I'd rather pay Poyer!
-
Classic "trap game" that the Bills are supposed to dominate. You know... kinda like the Jags game last season in getting beaten by the team with the very worst record in the NFL. It still makes me wonder how such a bad team beat the Bills 6-9...really, only 2 FGs on offense? Anyway, they could be overlooking the Steelers for the Chiefs next week and if that's the case they will lose both games. They need to keep in mind that EVERY win counts! Home Field!

How is a new RB going to make a difference behind this OL?
Nihilarian replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
Currently the 2022 Buffalo Bills are 20th in rushing attempts, 12th in rush yards, 20th in rush TDs. Mostly because the Bills QB leads the team in rushing yards with 183, 2 TDs. Singletary, 34 rush attempts for 129 yards, a 3.8 YPC AVG. Singletary also has 17 receptions for 141 yards, 1 TD. He has 2.1 rush yards before contact per rush attempt. Cincy RB Joe Mixon, 82 attempts, 224 yards, a 2.7 AVG Buc's RB Leonard Fournette, 60 attempts, 224 yards, a 3.7 AVG GB RB AJ Dillion, 57 attempts, 211 yards, a 3.7 AVG. STEELERS RB, Najee Harris, 57 attempts, 202 yards, a 3.5 AVG My take is that even as injury plagued as the Bills have been on that line they are still pretty good and will show better the more they run the ball. Usually, your simply not going to get really good production from a lead RB with only 8-11 attempts per game. -
How is a new RB going to make a difference behind this OL?
Nihilarian replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
This entire board was saying the team needed a new RB in the draft...right up until Singletary was being used more often in the run game later in the season last year. It started the week after the Bucs loss and in the week 15 Carolina game. Singletary, a measly 4 attempts in that Bucs loss to 22 rush attempts for 86 yards, one TD against the Panthers. Skip the win against NE and go to the week 17 Atlanta game, Singletary, 23 rushes for 110 yards, two TDs. Week 18, NY Jets Singletary 19 rushes for 88 yards, one TD. The Patriots playoff game Singletary 18 rushes for 81 yards, two TDs. A funny thing happens when you hand off to the starting RB around 20 times a game. The O linemen love to literally throw their weight at opposing defensive players over attempting to hold their ground in pass blocking. The more they run block the more effective it usually is... The RB usually starts getting into a rhythm and becomes better at finding the holes and making opponents miss the more attempts he gets. Usually the more a team runs the ball the more the opposing defense starts to wear down too. Rams, Singletary, 8 carries. Titans, Singletary, 6 carries. Miami, Singletary, 9 carries. Ravens, Singletary 11 carries. The 49ers are so good at running the ball because they really work at it. Seems like they can plug in any RB into their scheme and get good production. Now that the Bills are dealing with so many injuries to their receiving corps it might be wise to get that run game going. On another note: The KC Chiefs just ran it 37 times for 189 yards, two TDs against a really good Bucs defense. Winning 41-31. Balanced teams are tough to beat. Two words! Home Field! -
Looking at the Miami, Cincy game the Bengal's had great difficulty running on the Dolphins to the tune of only 2.2 YPC AVG. Kudos to the Phins defense as the Buffalo line might not be as bad as we think.
-
I don't get it! It seemed like so many Bills fans here were posting about how much better the run game and O line will be with the new line coach, Kromer? Was supposedly a big upgrade. The run game with the RBs was working well at the end of last season and the line did a really good job in pass blocking, protecting Allen. The Bills RBs are more than good enough to get the job done as they showed last season. I get that by the end of the Miami game they had O line 3rd stringers out there. But, like you stated the line couldn't block to save their lives early on. The run game suffered because the RB's had no holes and were getting tackled as soon as they touched the ball. 2018 all over again... I know Josh Allen is a unicorn and you want the ball in his hands as much as possible. Still, in order to be a balanced team they need to find a way to get that run game going as there might be games like the Jags game last season in which the QB was under so much duress he had no time to throw! Or a windstorm like that Patriots game. The Bills do play in Buffalo and at the end of the season should they get home field... it would really stink to lose at home because they can't run it in the snow. They had better get the run game fixed.

I really, really hate 63 passing attempts while wearing out the entire Buffalo skill players on an oppressively hot, humid day. I had thought this sorta crap was gone to NYC with Daboll...is this new OC attempting to put a saddle on Josh Allen to ride him into becoming a HC somewhere next year? Will the Buffalo receivers, QB even be recovered well enough to compete against the Ravens in Baltimore on Sunday? Some players were throwing up, some had duel IV's they were so dehydrated. Does being up in a air conditioned box watching the game insulate the OC from comprehending what was happening on the field that day? Where the hell was the run game by the running backs again this week? Why is the Buffalo QB the leading rusher again? Bills GM Brandon Beane brought in a great run blocking OG from the Titans in Rodger Saffold. The Bills draft a stud elusive RB in James Cook in the second round in last Aprils draft and hardly utilize him? On a day where the Buffalo run game could have spared Buffalo the loss by wearing out the Miami defense. Yes, the Dolphins were keying on Singletary and holding him to a 1.4 YPC AVG. Zack Moss did break a big run and if that had been Cook it would have been a TD. One carry by Cook, one carry by McKenzie, 4 carries by Moss. 15 carries all game by Buffalo RBs...yet 63 pass attempts!! Buffalo time of possession 40:20 to Miami 19:40. Miami sat in the shade while the Bills roasted in the sun...with no air coolers too. A lot to dislike about this game.

A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game, in no particular order
Nihilarian replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree with the whole post! Take QB Josh Allen out of the equation and what kind of a team do you have? A bad team with a decent defense that would be worn out every game by being on the field so often. Clearly the Buffalo Bills can't run and don't even really much try besides the QB. Allen being their leading rusher the last two games. This needs to change. Any one of a half dozen things go the Bills way and they win that game. -

I can recall seeing those late 80's, early 90's Buffalo Bills go down to Miami in that stifling heat and outplay the Dolphins players. Those phins players would be heavily panting with their hand on their hips and Buffalo would be killing them with the hurry up offense! Marv used to say "when its to tough for them, its just right for us!" Good ole Bills trainer Rusty Jones and his conditioning techniques. Anyway, Buffalo had time of possession for 40:40 vs 19:20. With 63 offensive pass attempts the Buffalo offensive skill players were gassed from running all over while being on the field so much in that heat, QB too. Fun fact, Drew Bledsoe did have 70 pass attempts in a 1994 game against Minnesota. 70 is the most ever in the NFL. -

While I've always been an advocate for building the very best offensive line in the league and would love to see the Buffalo Bills with a line of all pros, pro bowlers. (I know, keep dreaming) That said, Buffalo has had good line play and at the end of last season they looked very good In both running and pass blocking. I do believe I saw some actual pancakes at times. I would agree that the current line is average at best. Not great, but not that bad either and not many teams have the depth that Buffalo currently has on that line. I think Brandon Beane has done a masterful job on building this team and it shows in every aspect. It is far easier for offensive linemen to run block over pass blocking (and they have a beast of a run blocker in OG Rodger Saffold)(Bills GM Brandon Beane brought in a really, really good run blocker) Mostly because they know where they are going and can put all their massive weight into opponent rather then trying to hold their ground. As @HappyDays mentioned the 49ers are a really good running team... and they are because they really work at it. The led the league in rush attempts in 2021. Practice does make perfect and in order to be good at something they need to practice it until they can own it. Buffalo is a passing team and they are really good at that. However, when teams (like the 2021 Jacksonville Jaguars) are shutting down the Buffalo passing game by putting so much pressure on the QB. The Bills need to work that run game so they aren't one dimensional. Like I said, the Buffalo offense did very well in running the ball near the end of last season. So many Bills fans were calling for drafting better RBs for a lot of the 2021 season. Yet Singletary showed us he is more than good enough to get the job done. Moss is good. Cook is good. The Bills OC just needs to get back to what was working at the end of last season and not give up on the run game if it doesn't produce right away. -

Funny thing, It wasn't the injury depleted defense that most were concerned about that lost that game! Buffalo down six defensive starters and then lost rookie CB Benford to a hand injury. In that oppressive Miami heat wouldn't it have been wiser to find a way to run the ball more with the RBs to wear out the opposing defense? The Buffalo RBs do get paid to...you know...run the ball. Using toss sweeps, end arounds, misdirection plays to have the Dolphins defensive players needing to keep running sideline to sideline to make a tackle? By the fourth quarter that Miami defense is worn down and more susceptible to play action and the run game. Yes, Miami was keying on Singletary and only allowing a 1.4 YPC AVG. The Bills still had Zack Moss and James Cook to work that run game. Because of all the injuries to the Bills offensive line the Buffalo QB was under duress most of the game. Four sacks, two fumbles. Buffalo QB Josh Allen was amazing as he accounted for 447 of the Bills 497 offensive yards. ToP 40:40 to 19:20. Buffalo 497 offensive yards vs 212. Clearly the Miami players were more accustomed to the heat and yet players on both teams were cramping and limping off the field, needing IV's and oxygen. My take is the Buffalo OC simply wore out his offensive skill players with those 63 passes and by the end of the game they were exhausted both mentally and physically...QB included. This was on the coaching IMO. The guy is a rookie OC... so I suspect he will learn. -

So, what happens when the passing game is going nowhere? Do they stop passing because it was going nowhere? Or would an OC usually try and find a way to make things work? -

63 pass attempts is downright ridiculous to ask a QB to throw in one game... This OC put the entire game on the QB's shoulders. That is on the OC! -

Nihilarian replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with this take! Plus, Man, I used to complain about Daboll calling too many pass plays and Dorsey took it to a different level today. 63 passing attempts...yes, 63! Meanwhile 15 run play calls to the RBs. Josh Allen led the team in rushing again this week with 47 rushes on 8 carries. RB Zack Moss had 4 carries for 46 yards, a 11.5 YPC AVG. Singletary, 9 carries for 13 yards a 1.4 YPC AVG. Singletary was the leading receiver in catches and yards, 9 rec for 78 yards. Looking back to last season at how the Bills did so well with the run game you would think that would carry over to this season. Especially with a new O line coach. Situational awareness on offense was lacking all game and the offensive coordinator needs to find a way to get the running game working...and not just with the QB! The entire game was on the Buffalo QB shoulders...it...is...a...team...game!!! First ***** in the armor for the new Buffalo OC and it was a pretty big freaking *****!
