So would you say the season is over now? Before Halloween?
Nihilarian replied to dayman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its not over until the fat lady sings, and the Bills are eliminated from playoff contention. Still, if Rex doesn't shut his mouth, and put his back into what needs to be fixed on this team during the bye week. Then yea, put a fork in them. Miami NY Jets New England All coming up after the bye week, and going 1 for 3 will put the Bills at 4-6. I don't see them beating the Chiefs, Eagles, and Cowboys who will have Romo & Dez back by then. Yea, 7-9 -

all I gotta say is, "IN" !! -
Sure, why not! Draft another player in the 1st round and throw him to the wolves behind a piss poor offensive line ...again. Then be sure to have his OC call more pass plays then run plays out of the shotgun all game long. Take a long hard look at the Jets this year to see them doing better on offense with someone who Bills fans called noodle armed Fitz. Mostly because they have a decent run game, and a decent line to protect the QB. No offense to the fans who want a legit franchise QB in Buffalo because so do I. The problem is that nobody will ever do well at QB in Buffalo until the FO upgrades the line properly. This year the Bills might lose both Glenn in free agency, and Incognito who was signed for only one year. The right side is a disaster again this year, and to top that off center Eric Wood isn't playing up to the level we saw in years past. BB needs to remove Cook from #1 and replace him with another OT / OG should the Bills not resign Glenn / Cogs

The simple truth is that anytime a teams head coach opens his mouth by saying stupid things or doing stupid things to help motivate the opposing team it hurts his team, and helps the opponent get fired up. Ever hear the phrase "win for the gipper? In every aspect of society people do better when given a strong motivational reason. Anyway, Its not my job to convince you of anything. If you don't get it, that's OK with me.

If Cassel plays decently, is that it for Whaley?
Nihilarian replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Jets are showing Buffalo that even an average journeyman QB can play well with a solid supporting cast. good WR corp, good run game, good line. Right now with all the injuries the Bills have none of those. -
Its a game of emotion. It helps. Just ask the Patriot players who were hearing how much the Buffalo players hate them all week. so they could come out and shut them up and make them look bad. The offensive line of the jags did look like they played better, and particularly on that last TD drive for the win. You don't think St Doug is laughing at Ryan now? I'd rather Rex Ryan keep his mouth shut and stop motivating opposing teams because its not working... except to give the opponent even more reason to beat the Bills. Like Marv Levy used to say. "Your play on the field should speak so loudly that no one will hear what you say"

[closed]Start EJ against Miami
Nihilarian replied to The Real Buffalo Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its also a lack of confidence, and allowing him to much time to think. Did anyone else notice how much better EJ played when the team went into the no huddle, hurry up offense. Anyway, I'd rather see Taylor behind that crappy line so he can use his legs when things break down or nobody's open. -
Yep, I read that and perhaps Marrone relayed that to his Jag players. It might just be why that Jaguar team played more like a 5-1 team then a 1-5 team. But hey, what does Rex care.

Whats sad is it looks like all these highly paid scouts / GM's don't have anymore ability to find a franchise QB then the armchair GM's of the world. Andy Dalton Russell Wilson Derek Carr and fans were saying Colin Kaepernick just two years ago. Mike Mayock stated EJ was like a piece of clay that needed to be molded properly over a period of time while allowing him to develop. Now that doesn't mean throwing the kid to the wolves behind one of the worst offensive lines in the league with little or no running game for two years, and have his OC go pass happy. Now the Bills have another lamb for slaughter in Tyrod Taylor, and make big talk about how they will run the ball this year. Yet the O lines best player this season is the troubled LG who signed for one year. The right side is another disaster this year! Well now, what will happen this upcoming off season when LT Cordy Glenn's contract is up, and Incognito decides to sign elsewhere? Perhaps the Bills with draft a QB again in 2016 so he can be ruined behind bad lines like all the rest for the last 16 years. -

Nihilarian replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, I'm just glad that Matt Cassel was able to show off his noodle for an arm with his three picks, and perhaps now it will shut up his Bills supporters. The Cowboys have an excellent line, run game and it still didn't help the duck thrower. -
Bills called first about McCoy?
Nihilarian replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley made a good move for LeSean McCoy as that guy has been the most productive RB in the NFL the last five years. But like someone else already mentioned Whaley failed to properly build a cohesive powerful offensive line. Doug Whaley has had three off seasons to build a decent line for his offense, and the best he can do is Seantrel Henderson at RT, John Miller at RG,and with Urbik, Kounandjio as backups? Whaley may have signed Richie Incognito but it was Rex Ryan that wanted him in Buffalo. Now its kinda funny that Incognito is the Bills best O linemen, and its not even close. A half-assed offensive line again this year with another new young QB on the roster the Bills are trying to develop, and I thought it was a joke the previous two years. Starting EJ behind one of the very worst offensive lines in the NFL for two years, and now Taylor behind another bad line this year. When...will...this...GM...get...it...right? -
Failed Expectations, Rex Ryan is not a leader of men
Nihilarian replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So did Dick Jauron, and so did Doug Marrone, and I wouldn't want either back in Buffalo. Jauron's teams were always injured with over half the team suffering from an injury at one point or another. His players loved him, and played their hearts out for him, kinda like this year. The problem was his defensive scheme was outdated, and he never did find the players to fit his lousy defense. On offense he kept promoting QB coaches who didn't know what they were doing. Kinda like Marrone did. I don't know how you could have watched the Buffalo Bills dominate the 2014 NY Jets, and Ryan shooting his mouth off about how his team will play 1000% better the next time they face the Bills only to lose 38-3. Then not think, man this guy has lost his team. Ryan looked lost last year against Buffalo, and his defense stunk. 42 to 23 was the score of the first game against Buffalo. Rex Ryan needs to fix his defense, and rotate his D linemen more so they are fresh in the 4th quarter. He also needs to figure out how to get his scheme to work to get to the QB more often, and especially in crunch time with the game on the line. We can cry about the lame defensive call or fix the problem with the defense allowing Blake Bortles to throw a TD with 2 min left in the game. So now the Bills need to draft more defensive players to help Ryan's scheme, and how many years is that going to take? Great coaches take what they have, and make things work. His defense needs to stop with the stupid penalties. Ryan needs to fix his special teams coverage units so the team isn't always at a field position disadvantage, and stop with the stupid penalties. Ryan needs to fix his offense, and actually run the ball more like he said the team would. Running the read option more like the Panthers do with Cam Newton. Doing this would certainly help keep the backup QB from throwing so often! EJ showed early in the last game that he can successfully run the read option, and then they didn't run it again from what I saw. Kinda funny how this years EJ looks just like the EJ we saw against the Texans with the constant shotgun formations, and constant passing even before giving the Jags 21 points. Where was the run game, where was the play action? An example would be that on the third Bills series McCoy gets five yards on first down, and on second down the Bills have EJ take a 7 step drop to pass only to get sacked for -9 yards because nobody is open, and both sides of his line caved in. The next play is 3rd and 14... then the offense needs to stop with the stupid penalties. Penalties again, 10 for 97 yards. Its better then the 17 against the NY Giants but that's still more then both the NY Jets & NE Patriots had combined this weekend as each only had 4 each!! Ryan needs to shut his mouth, and let his players work on the field do his talking for him!! I'd say he has nine more games to prove he deserves to be an NFL head coach. -
Failed Expectations, Rex Ryan is not a leader of men
Nihilarian replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think every Bills fan out there wants to believe in Rex Ryan, and even the fans that didn't buy into the "we are going to build a bully in Buffalo" shtick still want him to succeed. The owner of the NY Jets Woody Johnson hated to fire the guy because he liked him so much. Lots of Jets fans weren't up in arms over his last season with the Jets even at 4-12 because they liked his charisma, his bluster and bravado. I honestly don't think it was Rex Ryan's past record of his first two years being good out of six seasons that got him the job as HC of the Buffalo Bills. I think someone at the top looked at Jim Schwartz and thought that the Bills won't play the NFC North every year, and they wanted someone with a past history of building top defenses. Someone who could come in and make even better use then what they saw with Pettine in 2013, and Schwartz in 2014. After all didn't Ryan train Pettine to run "his" defense, and wasn't it his defense that had been in the top 5 with the Jets all those six years? What worked then, and is not working now? My thought is the current players on this years Buffalo Bills team are better schemed in a wide nine 4-3 defense, and although Ryan says 3-4 or 4-3 no matter. It does matter, and it matters a lot because the Bills have the front four to run that wide nine 4-3, and don't have the LBers to run that zone blitz 3-4. Even HoF Bills QB Jim Kelly said that if he saw Mario, Kyle,or Jerry Hughes dropping into pass coverage instead of rushing him he'd have a big smile on his face (as the starting QB). Considering the talent of the Bills front four I was anticipating another 85 Bears Buddy Ryan defense in Buffalo this year, and instead we got a version of the 85 Bills defense. Let's face some facts here. The past two years the Buffalo Bills had the #2, #1 defense in sacks, and this year they are currently 20th. The defense is lacking is so many areas and doesn't have nearly as many injuries as the offense. Tackling stinks at times, soft coverage schemes that don't work. Plus this years team just doesn't seem to be getting the turnovers like the two previous seasons, and a lot of that is probably due to lack of pressure on the QB. The entire team is severely lacking in discipline, on offense, on defense, on special teams. That's coaching! This years special teams stinks, and its not the kickers fault, as the punter has been the MVP some games. Field position is so important and this years team seems to always have bad field position due to bad coverage units. Whats really puzzling is these are basically the same players, and coach from last year. NFN, but Rex Ryan keeps putting his foot in his mouth by giving the opposing teams bulletin board material while continuing to motivate them. Which is probably why he can't seem to remove his head from his posterior with the defense because his feet are always in the way. At this point this is not looking like a good hire for Buffalo and the Bills are on pace for an 8-8 season...maybe. I gotta wonder if the team will be better after the bye week, or will Ryan lose the team. -

Nihilarian replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coaching does make a difference when the HC makes the entire Bills O line captains while giving the middle finger to Doug Marrone. Stunts like this manage to fire up a bunch of average players to play above their heads. The Jags were the 6 worst team in sacks allowed, and 7th with QB hits, and the bills only managed two sacks on them today. The lack of discipline with so many penalties have anything to do with coaching? Fans need to stop making the injury excuse because all teams have those problems. The Patriots lose Brady in the opener one year, and get to 11-5 with a QB who hadn't made a start since high school. If you look at the Patriots that season only 5 offensive players played in all 16 games, and that includes Cassel. Lots of blame all around to go for this one with losing to a bad Jags 1-5 team on the verge of firing their HC. Anyone who says this years team has met their expectations so far is a bad liar. The defense was supposed to be so special this year with this HC who is a supposed defensive genius. and a guy who scoffed at last years #4 defense in the NFL with all this talent. This years defense is barely average. The Bills at 3-4, and currently last in the division. -
Good to see you back this week Bill !! Was sincerely worried, and hoped we would hear from you again. From now on I think I need to start my Sundays thinking the team has already lost, so should they win I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm very disappointed in EJ's play today. But I'm also disappointed in the play calling on both sides of the ball. Rex Ryan said he would fix the defense, and although it did look like he attempted to do so at times, it also stunk at times. Lastly, if the team knows the backup QB is not that good, and most of the offense is crippled with injuries. Then why not run the read option all day, and ask EJ to throw very few passes.

In defense of EJ (yeah, I said it!)
Nihilarian replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All QB's have bad games, and in particular the young QB's without a decent supporting cast around him. That goes for the coaching staff who called to many pass plays even before the 3 TD debacle, On first down Shady gets five yards and the Bills OC calls for a 7 step drop back pass on second down. Run the freaking read option, and have EJ run or hand it off with much much less passing. The OP has a point that if the defense makes the stop then EJ gets redemption, and since that didn't happen he is crucified. Yea EJ stunk it up, but so did the rest of the team with penalties, bad play calls, poor defense. -

The difference is the younger garbage is still young and learning, and he has an actual NFL arm. Whaley made the right choice in dumping Cassel, and EJ was doing his Geno Smith impression today -
time to cut EJ. Bring in Tebow as a backup

Yea, the team needs to keep drafting fragile WR's with two first rounders while they keep hoping a 6th rounder will be the franchise QB. -

Not over yet, but at this point it looks to be only a matter of time. Currently 3-4 and at the bottom of the division again After the bye week the Dolphins at home, and they haven't won a home game yet. Then, @ Jets, @ NE. Murderers row... Injuries, penalties, a sackless team in more ways then one! -

Eliot Wolf for GM of the Buffalo Bills
Nihilarian replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The guy may have had a major impact on all those drafts in presenting all the right players. However it was still GM Ted Thompson made those choices, and not the director of player personnel. This team is lacking that knowledgeable football person at the top of the flow chart before another new GM. JMO -
Failed Expectations, Rex Ryan is not a leader of men
Nihilarian replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just like he did on the Jets sidelines last year. My favorite quote from last year was his "we will 1000% better in the second game against Buffalo" only to be beaten 38-3. After finishing last year 4-12 I still don't get how he managed to get hired in Buffalo -
I don't know why more fans don't see this. In Buffalo he would be an even bigger disaster given the current Bills circumstances
