DK Metcalf requests trade to a contender
Nihilarian replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
In my view it wasn't the offense that let the team down as the defense allowed the Chiefs more points than they scored all...season...long!!!!! That is even against the 32nd ranked defense of the Carolina Panthers. Did you not watch the Super Bowl and say Man, I wish the Buffalo defense was that good? That Eagles defense gave Patrick Mahomes fits all game long and they did basically the same thing to the Washington Commanders the game previous. Seven sacks on Rams QB Matthew Stafford...you know, the guy who had all day to throw against Buffalo while scoring 44 points. The Bills had ZERO sacks on Stafford!!!!!!!!!!! What do you guys want to see? The 2025 Buffalo Bills scoring 40 points a game? They cry like little kids when the Buffalo defense gives up 50!~ The Buffalo offense has changed from a dominant pass-first attack under Brian Daaboll to more of a balanced pass/run attack that scored more points in franchise history and got the QB an MVP trophy! Dude, go back and rewatch the games to see which side of the ball the Bills were weakest with, and the biggest reason as to why the defense was in any game was because of an unsustainable turnover ratio. The 2025 offense should be better as those WRs will get more time in the Buffalo offense while getting healthy from those injuries. Man, I just don't get why so many Buffalo fans don't see how bad that 2024 Buffalo defense was 11th in points allowed, 17th in yards allowed and on the pass defense 24th in yards allowed, 24th in TDs allowed...pretty stinky for a McDermott defense. The 2022 Buffalo Bills were 7th in yards allowed, and 2nd in TDs allowed. And yes, injuries really hurt the defense at the end of the season, the last two years. At least they had a better pass rush in 2022 though. -

Good to read! I'm still hoping the Bills go big time for the defense this entire offseason!! After all, Josh won MVP with a supposed bunch of nobodies and a guy named Shakir. -

Speaking of Diggs, getting that malcontent primadonna off the team was the right thing to do...even though his 30+ million dollar cap hit is probably what kept the Bills from resigning Leonard Floyd or better pass rushers. Which also probably cost the team a Lombardi in 2024. The guy was angry at someone, everyone in Buffalo for his own decline. -

I still don't get this obsession with improving the offense with an expensive WR OR TWO. Brian Daboll is now in NYC, and Joe Brady is the new OC as the offense has morphed into a much more balanced offense that has improved the offense and turnovers by the offense immensely. The 2024 Buffalo Bills offense was the most productive scoring offense in franchise history and second in the entire NFL in scoring points. DK Metcalf is making 24k a season and Adams is currently making 28.25 a season. Adding an elite WR wouldn't have been more beneficial to the 2024 Bills as those elite WRs want all the passes to themselves. Not in the "everybody eats" philosophy at all. However, adding a star edge rusher / DT would have been the game changer (or both) this team needed to shut down opposing QBs. In so many games last season, opposing QBs had outstanding games against the Bills defense because the Buffalo defense simply...could..not...stop them. Lamar had a great game, Tua had a great game, Stafford had a career game, Goff had a career game and even the Patriots rookie had a decent game against that Bills defense. If it weren't for that unreal Buffalo league leading +24 turnover ratio, the Bills defense would have looked far worse. That KC Chiefs offense scored more points against the Buffalo Bills in that AFC Championship game than they had all season long, even against teams like the crappy 5-12 Panthers who had the 32nd ranked defense last year. -

I don't know about the rest of the Bills fans...But I absolutely reveled in this past Super Bowl while watching Patrick Mahomes return to earth as an elite QB in getting his A$$ beat by that Eagles defense all...game...long! Made my year!! Defense wins Championships! It wasn't just the Eagles D line as the DBs jammed the Chiefs WRs at the line and played press man. Patty boy had nowhere to go with the ball and suffered for it 34-6 until the Eagles defense took their foot off the gas, thus giving the Chiefs garbage points. Just beautiful and loved watching that game. IF ONLY the Buffalo Bills had a defense as good! -

If anything that's not sustainable is the +24 turnover ratio by the 2024 Bills as Buffalo led the league in turnover ratio. In that AFC Championship game they had 4 fumbles and recovered them all. It's that they didn't get that ratio against KC in that last game. Now stop and think if they didn't have that phenomenal turnover ratio, the team might not even make the playoffs this season, and not because the offense wasn't scoring points. The 2025 Buffalo Bills need defensive help far far more than the offense. DT, Edge, S, CB. (PASS RUSHER! #1 priority!!!!!!!!!!) -

I don't get this entire discussion considering the 2024 Buffalo Bills finished the season with a franchise record of most points scored, #2 in points scored for the league and #10 in yards. The offense wasn't a problem as they scored 29 points on the #4 defense in points allowed, and they held their own against that KC defense, Ravens defense, Broncos defense. If anything, we all watched as opposing QB's had all day to throw the ball game after game like that loss to the Rams 44-42 or the win over the Lions in DETROIT 48-42. A better pass rush this past season, and the Buffalo Bills are most likely playing in the Super Bowl despite the supposed lack of wide receivers in the WR room. Then when you consider Buffalo allowed their two best WRs in Stephon Diggs and Gabe Davis leave...many had projected Buffalo to have a rebuilding season. Not all the way to the AFC Championship game. The only WR returning from the 2023 season was Kahlil Shakir while all the rest were new to the team. I would think that as they all become more acclimated to the offense they will all get even better for 2025. Plus the draft and free agency. So why spend so many resources on a WR when an DT, an edge rusher are more desperately needed? Just my 2 cents. -
Do we forget the 2023 season with Ken Dorsey as OC and the team was 6-6 and McD fired that OC? Josh Allen is great and Diggs was getting a lot of catches and yet the team wasn't winning with losses to the NY Jets, Jags, Broncos, Patriots, Bengals, and Eagles. McD changing the OC midseason was met with much skepticism...and yet after the team went on a 6 game tear and overcame the Dolphins to win the division again. As much as I love Josh Allen the team is much more balanced now with a strong running game which helps the QB a lot. As great as Josh Allen is at times he no longer needs to put on his cape every game to make plays. Much fewer offensive turnovers and the 2024 Buffalo Bills set a new franchise scoring record. And yes, the Bills need a better backup QB...like drafting that kid from Syracuse...just a thought. Also, gotta remember that McD made the playoffs with Tyrod Taylor at QB... With a better pass rush, they probably win the SB 2024.
-
Did we all forget that #17 Josh Allen won MVP? That RB James Cook was a top 5 RB in the NFL? That the Buffalo Bills O line graded as one of the best last season? Did I recall reading that the 2024 Buffalo Bills were the highest scoring team in franchise history and one of the top scoring teams in the league? Things should work out okay...have some faith.

This Buffalo Bills team is already a playoff team with some top talent on it and not some rebuilding crap team. How difficult do any of you think earning a roster spot on an already playoff team might be? Those rookies would need to be nearly superstars at their position to make a starting spot on the team. AND McD doesn't like to start rookies because they usually tend to eff up at some point and might cost a game simply because they don't know what they don't know. As others have pointed out, evaluating players properly takes time, so start with the draft from three seasons ago.

I think this regime is good enough to win an SB. Despite the injuries to the defense, Buffalo has come within three points in the last two seasons against the Chiefs dynasty. With one more ball bounce in Buffalo's way, they win both games. The Chiefs won home-field this season by the skin of their teeth game after game all season long and it showed all their faults. That AFC Championship game also showed the Buffalo Bills faults and it's not coaching. Starting a rookie at safety and because of another concussion to Benford... Elam stepped in and was targeted big-time by Mahomes. Plus, very little pressure on Mahomes. Plus, we all saw what a dominant pass rush by the front four defenders can do to that Chiefs O line. Just think, that Eagle's defense stunk last season 30th in points allowed AND lost six of their last seven games to end the season. Both the Eagle's OC & DC were replaced last off-season. Their GM brought in a bunch of good players. They managed to beat the Commanders and Rams, dunno if they would have beaten the Lions in Detroit though. The 2025 Buffalo Bills need a much better pass rush, upgrades in the secondary, and a separator at WR. Things to look forward to this offseason. Be excited!

Considering that the Bill's DC was a rookie play-caller last season I'm of a frame of mind that the defense will improve.
-
Free agency also! Hey they went after Von Miller and it was working up until his severe injury...sadly he is probably done. Khalil Mack is an FA, a trade for Max Crosby or Miles Garrett. Stuff to hope for...

41 pages on something that's not going to happen. Its all about the draft and free agency now. We all saw opposing QB's having all day to throw and that means more pass rush.

The KC Chiefs were the only team that fired their HC and went to an SB. The Patriots managed to keep a lot of teams out of the SB...as have the KC Chiefs. Patience grasshopper. Now Pittsburgh & Baltimore kept their same HCs and were back in the playoffs repeatedly... as have the Buffalo Bills. Think about it...discuss!

It Goes Back to 13 Seconds, Doesn't It?
Nihilarian replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wide right...13 seconds...this team is sorta cursed and continues to be cursed. Bills OC Ted Marchibroda taught Jim Kelly to call his own plays and in that first Superbowl, he did just that and neglected what got them there in RB Thurman Thomas. Back then the Bills ran the ball more than they threw it despite the "hurry-up offense" or the "K gun". It was mostly the Thurman show. Against the Redskins Kelly was concussed and kept playing. The Bills O line that year was so banged up in playing Denver they had TE Pete Metzalaars playing tackle during that game. As good as the offense was that season the defense was just plain bad. Buffalo was always so injured at the end of each year and for one year the NFL cut the normal two-week rest down to one week. Dallas was just a wreaking machine at that point in time. You guys can continue to cry about the 13 seconds and the guy responsible is long gone in old-timer Leslie Frazier... him and his prevent defense. Since then Buffalo has had to overcome some great injuries to the defensive side and still managed to get into the playoffs. One year a guy had an actual heart attack on the field and nearly died. That showed the players there is more to life than the NFL. It's NOT the coaching or the GM or the Xs and O's as it's the Jimmy's and Joe's. Look back at this season where we all watched the defense not being able to get pressure on the opposing QBs. The Buffalo defense stopped the run against the Ravens and had the ball bounce their way a few times to win that game. It didn't bounce their way enough in the Chief's game and allowed Mahomes to have one of his best games all season. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year as the Dolphins, Jets were going to be better and win the division. They weren't and didn't...the Buffalo Bills kicked ass so bad in 2024 that they had the division wrapped up by week 12 or so. They beat the two best teams in the NFL this year in the Detroit Lions AT Detroit and the KC Chiefs in Buffalo. Are we all forgetting that Buffalo took a 30 million dollar cap hit to get rid of Stephon Diggs, that we lost Jordan Poyer and Michah Hyde, and that a rookie safety was needed to start against KC? That was a very close game against the Chiefs, and one more ball bouncing Buffalo's way, and it's a win. Didn't Buffalo have four fumbles in that game and not lose one of them? Von Miller was the right idea only injuries derailed it. Poyer and Hyde were a great safety tandem and their time was sadly up. Buffalo is so very, very close to being a World Champion. Have some faith in Beane the Wizard and let him improve the Bills' pass rush and secondary. -
Is McD actually compensating for Beane?
Nihilarian replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Some of you need to get a grip on reality! Do you realize how close this last game was that the Bills lost by 3 points? Some Chiefs players were crying after that game because they didn't think they would win that game. An NFL team doesn't go 13-4 with bad players or bad coaching and it should have been 14-3 except the Bills sat some starters against the Patriots. (perhaps they didn't want NE to get the 1st overall pick?) The Bills swept Miami, they swept the NY Jets, and could have swept the Patriots. For crying out loud the only team to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in a meaningful game in 2024 was the Buffalo Bills. The San Diego Chargers made the playoffs went 11-6 and lost 2x to the Chiefs, and the Denver Broncos made the playoffs and went 10-7 and lost one and won one at the end of the season as the Chiefs really didn't want the Bengals in the playoffs. THIS WAS A CLOSE GAME and for some reason, the Buffalo Bills simply couldn't get the ball to bounce their way...and the stinking refs too. This team is a few defensive players away from being great. They need a freaking better pass rush and some better players in the secondary...that is all! Buffalo GM Brandon Beane is without question one of the best in the NFL and the only HC that has won more games over the last five years has been KC HC Andy Reid. BTW, has an ex-HC as his DC in Steve Spagnuolo, and an ex-HC in Matt Nagy as his OC. Lastly, the AFC West division should be a lot tougher to win with the Chargers, Broncos, and now Raiders all with good head coaches. My take is this is the last year we see the Chiefs being this good. -
Maybe we should copy the Seahawks old approach?
Nihilarian replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Imagine a team with top 5 pass rush and a top-5 good secondary... Now, to all the complainers, the current team has a bad defense...yet, 13-4, and 3 points away from a Super Bowl. This team is one or two players away IMHO.
