Why is ALynn getting a pass for Cheats gameplan?
Nihilarian replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rex Fired Greg Roman for doing this same thing against the Ravens and Jets. A Lynn now did this both against the Dolphins and Patriots. 22 rushes for 67 yards against Miami. This after rushing 44 times for 313 yards against the 49ers the week previous. If Rex fires Lynn do we get David Lee or Aaron Kromer as the next OC? All I can think of is he panicked as most OC's do in that situation and we all saw Chan Gailey do it every time the team was down as little as 3 points. After that first drive that netted a FG the Bills came out in their second series and got a 5 yard run on first down by Gillislee and the next two plays were passes. It stinks that both passes were on the money and dropped probably because of the rain. After that, you would think that the OC would realize IT'S RAINING, so let's run the ball more. Anyway, All i can think of is Gillislee was listed as questionable leading up to the game and he was taking quite a beating during the game. Reggie Bush and Jon Williams were both no help as Bush had 2 carries for -8 yards and Williams 5 carries for 12 yards a 2.4 YPC avg. If Shady's hammy doesn't get better It's too late to bring in Spiller. Perhaps Ray Rice or Knile Davis? Maybe sign Karlos off the Steelers PS if he is finally in game shape. -
Gilmore "was" reportedly available for trade
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And some were wondering what happened with Mario last year. What does it say about a HC who can't get his players to buy into his scheme, system and play hard? The team dumped Mario so they might as well dump Gilmore too. Another first round draft pick for the defense in 2017. -
Bills Defense - average after all the changes (corrected)
Nihilarian replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's sure looks like it's gotten to the point that Bills fans are now using the lack of offense for the excuse that the defense stinks! Or it's all the QB's fault that the defense has become mediocre! It really is getting ridiculous the lengths some fans will go to defend the bloated one*. And whatever we do we had better not bring up what happened to the defense in 2014 because that was an abomination of our imaginations! That was with Gilmore and McKelvin, Brooks and Graham too. That year the team was #3 in yards passing allowed. #1 in TD passes allowed. #6 in interceptions. Against Brady, Cutler, Rivers, Fitz, Stafford, Bridgewater, Geno & Vick, Alex Smith, Tallywhacker, Hoyer & Manziel, Peyton Manning, Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers who was having an MVP season. We know Rex Ryan can coach defense...just not in Buffalo it seems. He will get it right by 2019 though, no worries. *I stole that name from IronyAbounds -
Bills Defense - average after all the changes (corrected)
Nihilarian replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When you have a defense that gives up 375 yards in the air to Fitz and a total of almost 500 yards of offense to the 3-5 Jets. That NYJet offense is currently 28th in points for and 22 in yards...not exactly an offensive juggernaut to stop. Now, let's take a look at the Miami game in which this Bills defense allowed an unknown Dolphin RB to rush for 214 yards and meanwhile Talleywhacker had less yards in the air than Tyrod! Fast forward to this past week and Tom Brady bends the defense over for 315 yards passing and 4 passing TD's to Gronk, to Edelman, to 7/11, to Amendola. Oh! WAIT! It was Brady so of course, he is going to decimate the Bills defense as he does that to every team. But Fitz did it too and for more yards! Most Bills fans thought the defense was going to be great this year with Rob Ryan and Ed Reed as new coaches. This game with Shaq Lawson and Marcell Dareus the defense was supposed to be much better. Tied with Denver for most sacks but that doesn't seem to be equating to pressure on the QB as the Bills are currently 14th in defensive hurries. Last year it looked like the only time the defense was really prepared to play was against AFC East teams and now this year it looks just the opposite. At 4-4 overall and1-3 in the division. Houston, Denver, Oakland and KC all currently have better records. This sure wasn't the defense most of us was expecting to see this year and against the Patriots so many of the major problems that plagued last year's squad looked to emerge again with Penalties, play calls coming in late, players confused on the field. This with the defense only missing one starter who was lost week 7. -
Updated (SEA) Bills 2016 Drop rate and Bad Pass Rate
Nihilarian replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He just isn't that type of QB just yet and either is EJ. Some players like Joe Flacco, who was a first-round pick went on to develop into that solid pocket passer after two seasons. Some players are more of a project and take longer to develop. Clearly, Colin Kaepernick is a bigger, stronger version of Tyrod Taylor and yet I'd rather have Taylor at this point. RG3 was the second overall pick that cost the Redskins a ton of picks and he failed to develop into that supreme pocket passer too. Taylor showed so much more promise last year when he had Sammy Watkins, Percy Harvin, Chris Hogan to throw to. This year he has had a cast of scrubs and the decent receivers have been injured. I think there is still time and room for Tyrod to perhaps develop into a Russell Wilson. Who BTW, is having great difficulty himself this year with a worse O-line and no Marshawn Lynch. -
Updated (SEA) Bills 2016 Drop rate and Bad Pass Rate
Nihilarian replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I agree that Tayor isn't an ideal pocket QB and will throw some bad passes. I also contend that better receivers find a way to catch that not so accurate ball and will find ways to get open more often. I watched the Patriots game closely and noted each pass. That first overthrown pass to Hunter hit him in his hands are he was reaching up to catch it. It looked like it could have been caught and instead it's listed as overthrown. It was also raining pretty good at that time. Out of around 20 errant throws in that game, I noted around 7 actual bad passes off the mark enough so they couldn't have been caught. There were a lot of throw-aways due to heavy pass rush pressure from NE. Walter Powell was the Bills leading receiver in that game and it looked like the Patriots defender was interfering with him on every pass to him. Yet, only one or two penalties were called on him. Robert Woods had issues with his foot and was ineffective in making his cuts so passes to him also looked errant. Charles Clay had a couple of drops and must have been dinged up because I had thought he was better than what he showed. The bottom line here is Taylor shouldn't be forced to try and win the game with his arm and 38 passes vs 26 rushing attempts is unacceptable. Rex Ryan said it himself that this team must run the ball to win games. Even when behind in points if the team kept running it as it plays keep away from the opponent and also keeps the Bills defense fresh and on the bench. Meanwhile running 30-40 rushes a game wears out the defense which allows for bigger plays and gains in the 4th quarter. I'm not excusing Tyrod for some bad play because he had some bad throws and missed some opportunities. But then I'm also not excusing that defense that played so poorly and was eaten alive by Tom Brady. Nor am I excusing the offensive play calling that had Taylor throwing 38 times to some not very good NFL receivers and especially when Gillislee was averaging 7.1 YPC while seeing only 12 rushes. By the same token, Jon Williams was averaging 2.4 yards per rush and saw the ball 5 times. If Tayor fails to develop further and doesn't start seeing the field better than by all means, don't pay him at the end of the season and draft a QB in the first or second round. -

yet there is no 19-page thread about how poorly the defense has played against the Jets, Dolphins and now the Patriots. WTH is happening with all that talent on the defense that it doesn't equate to better play? Almost 500 yards of offense given up to the Jets with Fitz throwing for 375 in a loss. An unknown Miami RB rushes for 214 yards in a loss. Tom Brady throws for 375 yards and 4 TD's in a loss. 1-3 in the division and with the defense 23rd overall in yards, 18th against the pass, 26th against the run. It's like all those Jets coaches that game planned against the AFC East so well last year are falling on their faces this year -
OK, let's do this: Tyrod Taylor
Nihilarian replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From what I've read here so many did expect an elite defense this year with the added coaches (Rob Ryan & Ed Reed) and all the talk about getting better at player communication. Better at getting the play calls and player substitutions in faster along with players not being out of position as the ball is snapped. Fixing the penalties. Have the team prepared to play all opponents and not just the AFC East teams! For a bunch of games everything looked to be improved and now the team is winning everything other than the AFC East games they really need to win. One win against a Bradyless Patriots doesn't mean much if you can't beat the scrubby 3-4 Dolphins and 3-5 Jets. I think Tyrod would have improved had the team bolstered the WR corps in the offseason and especially knowing that Watkins had surgery on his foot. I think it's far more difficult for Tyrod to improve because he has no elite player at wide receiver as Watkins has been out all year long. Charles Clay, Robert Woods have been battling injuries and Goodwin is currently in concussion protocol. Granted, with LeSean McCoy out there it takes a ton of pressure off the QB. However, with no Shady and no Watkins teams are forcing the QB to win games with his arm and without his elite playmakers. -
Gilmore needs to go

This is a big reason I don't much care for Rex Ryan. He might be a players coach and the players love him. But the players don't look to play their hearts out for him like they did for Jauron. Great coaches don't let this type of stuff happen. -

The Bills were actually pretty good against the run because Blount had 18 carries for 43 yards, which was a pretty bad 2.4 yard per carry average! Why run it when you have Tom Brady (GOAT) at QB. He was like a surgeon most of the game and it looked like he relished carving up Rex Ryan's secondary. -

Nihilarian replied to re enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know what game you were watching yesterday but at times defenders came clean and unblocked! Because Taylor has such great escapability he either threw the ball away or ran it. There might be times he holds the ball waiting for the receiver to break open or come uncovered. I can also tell you that once the Bills lost the lead the Patriots defenders came after Taylor hard and were getting heavy pressure on him. The lack of sacks (2) really don't tell the entire story as any other QB would have been sacked bunch of times and would have more INT's on the year. Bills fans forget the players that Taylor was throwing the ball to were not 100%. How many plays did Robert Woods screw up because he couldn't make the break in his pattern because of his foot? Throwing to a receiver like that doesn't instill very much confidence to want to lead him or throw him open. The Bills leading receiver against the Patriots was Walter Powell (who?) with two actual game starts out of 13 in his three years in the NFL. -

Nihilarian replied to offsides#76FredSmerlas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wasn't impressed with the Buffalo defense against the Jets and 374 passing yards to Fitz. Almost 40 min of time of possession by the Jets to the Bills 20:48 as the Bills D couldn't get off the field. Plus, 493 yards of total offense given up to the NY Jets in week 2!! Come to think of it I wasn't very happy in giving Jay Ajayi 214 yards rushing either! The Dolphins averaging 6.8 yards per rush from those smelly fish in week 8. Currently, the Bills defense is ranked 23rd in the NFL, 18th passing, 26th rushing. The Bills might lead the NFL in sacks with 26 (5 more than last years total after 8 games) This team has more problems than Gilmore. This year's defense reminds me of 2013 and Mike Pettine. -

Nihilarian replied to re enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I so agree with this! However, It's the way of the world that most fans just focus on the QB and the rest escape accountability. Many, many Bills fans were saying all offseason the team needed better players at WR, TE and more depth at many positions. Tyrod had 19 passes that didn't hit their mark and after reviewing them it looked like 7 were actual bad passes overthrown or just off the target. IT WAS RAINING! There were a bunch of dropped passes some better receivers could have made those catches. To me, it looked like the Patriots got away with quite a bit of pass interference especially from Coleman on Powell. Tyrod Taylor is what he is and that's a limited QB on a run first team that actually wins games when they run the ball well. The #1 team in the NFL in rushing sometimes forget that's what they do best and Gillislee was averaging 7.1 yards per carry against the Patriots. Too bad the Bills stopped running and had Taylor throw 38 times. -

Nihilarian replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While most everyone here is harping on the QB in a run first offense and those same fans just don't get it that the entire world knows he is limited at his position and he isn't going to win games with his arm. Yet when the Bills fall behind in points they give up on the run game and attempt to force that QB win the game with his arm...it just ain't gonna happen. Not with Taylor at QB and not with that banged up slew of scrubs in his receiving corps. No Shady, No Watkins, and the rest of the skill players all somewhat injured that offense wasn't going to score 40+ points to keep up with the Patriots. No way! So why throw 38 times when the RB in Gillislee was averaging 7.1 yards per carry. That's an easy answer as the OC panicked and set the QB up for a very tough day as that Patriot defense could now pin their ears back and come after Taylor with everything and everyone. The smart thing to do is keep pounding that rock just like they did in that first drive. Just keep moving the chains with runs and short passes until you have a shot at the end zone. I said it before and I'll say it again, there is no way Taylor should be throwing it up 38 times a game vs 26 rushes. That second series Gillislee rushes for 5 yards on first down and the next two play calls are for passes. That first pass went right through Clay's hands and the next was a deep pass to Tate which he also dropped The Bills OC let this game get away from him and Chan Gailey used to do the very same thing when the team was down by as little as 3 points. Man, that's an understatement! Currently, the Bills are 23rd in total defense, 18th against the pass, 26th against the run. Closer to worst than first! The Bills had Shaq Lawson and Marcell Dareus and were still owned by Brady. Where are all the threads on this Rex Ryan craptastic defense that was supposed to be the best in the NFL last year and now with more defensive coaches plus that 1st round pick were supposed to be world beaters? -
Jeeze How unlucky are we to miss out on Prescott
Nihilarian replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dak is playing behind the very best offensive line in the league with the very best RB to take pressure away from the QB. Opposing teams are so focused on stopping the league's leading rusher rather than the Cowboys QB. Plus, he has a solid receiving corps to go along with him. His HC is an ex-NFL QB. His OC is an ex-NFL HC. His QB coach is an ex-NFL QB and he has Tony Romo to help tutor him. Wanna talk Rookie QB's, I think Wentz did an even better job considering he doesn't have as much quality talent around him in the supporting cast and he does most of it with his arm. NFN, my take is that if you gave Tyrod Taylor all the talent that Dak Prescott has surrounding him and take the Patriots out of the division the Bills would be 6-1 too. -
I doubt there is a QB in the league that could have made use of the Bills receivers on Sunday with all of them looking like they should be in a hospital ward instead of an NFL field. Yes, there were a few overthrows and bad passes but there were also balls that should have been caught that weren't. EJ isn't going to fair any better with this current crop of receivers and all that will happen is more turnovers, more sacks and less big plays being made under pressure. The Bills are darn lucky to have a player like Taylor and he simply shouldn't have been asked to throw it 38 times vs 26 rushes and especially when the RB is getting 7.1 yards per carry.

Tate in concussion protocol and Bush hurt his groin
Nihilarian replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tyrod took a knee to the head on that Reggie Bush failed pass attempt. The defender on Powell was giving him the Seahawk CB treatment all game long.Meaning he was constantly interfering with him every pass play. Hightower hit Tyrod 10 yards out of bounds with no penalty and the announcers were even livid about that non-call. -
OK, let's do this: Tyrod Taylor
Nihilarian replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't look at one position on a team in a vacuum as it is a team game and no one player is more dependent on a supporting cast around him then the QB! When the Bills had a better compliment of receivers Taylor played better and put up more yards. It's a fact! For some reason the GM allowed Chris Hogan to leave for the Patriots and he burned the Bills for a deep TD. Hogan 4 catches for 91 yards, one TD. The Patriots have two of the leagues best TE's in Gronk and Bennett in which opposing teams have great difficulty covering both players. The Patriots also still have two clutch first down playmakers in Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola to go along with Hogan. Tyrod Taylor had only Robert Woods and Charles Clay who were still somewhat injured along with the rest of a craptastic receiving corps in which Walter Powell was the leading receiver, really? Clay injured during this game. Powell looked like he was getting hurt on almost every pass play. Walter Powell 3 receptions, 8 targets! Robert Woods 4 receptions, 7 targets! Reggie Bush 2 receptions, 3 targets Jerone Felton 2 receptions, 3 targets Brandon Tate 2 receptions, 3 targets Nick O'Leary 1 reception, 1 target Mike Gillislee 3 receptions, 3 targets Justin Hunter 1 reception, 5 targets Charles Clay 2 receptions, 6 Targets The young QB spread the ball all over to every receiver with no INT's and I gotta wonder how many passes were dropped vs off target. You would think if that many passes were off target that he would have been intercepted at least once. It was raining so that was a contributing factor in both throwing and catching today. The Patriot defenders were also hitting the receivers hard after every catch and almost every Bills receiver looked beaten up today. 1st bad pass- listed as overthrown to Hunter, it actually hit him in his hands over his head and it could have been caught. heavy rain a contributing factor. 2nd bad pass- 1st and goal pass thrown away due to pressure... late hit 7 yards out of bounds might have had an effect on Taylor as he came down hard on a surface between the stadium wall and field. 3rd bad pass- overthrown and glances off of Reggie Bush's hand in the end zone. (Clearly too high to catch) 4th bad pass- off the hands of Charles Clay (should have been caught) 5th bad pass- on a 3rd down and 6 Taylor hits Brandon Tate in the hands on the sideline (wide open) for a first down and HE DROPS IT! 6th bad pass- overthrown to Powell, way over his head 7th bad pass- on 2nd and 24 because of offensive penalties pass to Clay and Taylor lucky the pass wasn't picked off! 8th bad pass- deep ball to Charles Clay and defender his him about the same time he tried to catch the ball that went thru his hands (could have been caught) Clay hurt on this play 9th bad pass- deep pass to Justin Hunter and interference for a 1st down 10th bad pass- Taylor under pressure rolls out and throws to Felton (underthrown?) looks like the ball hit him but he didn't hold on 11th bad pass- deep ball to Hunter thrown out of bounds, uncatchable 12th bad pass- to Robert Woods, looked to be thrown behind him but could have been a bad route by Woods who didn't come out of his break properly (still, has issues with his foot) 13th bad pass- long ball to Powell who stopped the ball with his right hand but couldn't get his left hand up to catch it. Kind of overthrown 14th bad pass- underthrown to Woods on the sideline. 15th bad pass- thrown wide and behind Hunter 16th bad pass- overthrown to Powell and it looked like interference as the Patriots defender Coleman pushed him in the back and fell on his legs. should have been a penalty in my view 17th bad pass- Taylor under pressure throws it away out of the end zone 18th bad pass- Taylor under pressure by an unblocked defender on 4th down overthrows Clay in the end zone 19th bad pass - Taylor under pressure throws the ball away out of bounds 20th bad pass- Taylor under heavy pressure throws it away and takes a hard hit. Patriot defenders coming unblocked EJ in. On one play Taylor hands off to Reggie Bush who looks to throw it and instead tosses it backward to Taylor who is forced to recover it, meanwhile Tyrod takes a knee to his helmet. This young QB took a hell of a beating in a losing effort and if he had better receiving options he might have been able to pad his stats in garbage time like Blake Bortles does. Taylor was under heavy pressure for a lot of the second half and still managed to make plays with both his arm and legs. I have a deeper respect for Tyrod after watching him attempt to make something out of nothing most of the day while getting beaten up with late hits and unblocked defenders. Bottom line: I only saw about 7 out of 20 passes that were literal over throws or bad passes. The Bills should have kept pounding the rock despite being behind in points simply because it would wear out that defense and eat up the clock while playing keep away from Brady. The Bills OC should have realized that with such a beaten up, depleted receiving corps the Bills would have been so much better off just running the ball as Gillislee was averaging 7.1 yards per carry. No way should Taylor be throwing the ball 38 times vs 26 rushes. -
OK, let's do this: Tyrod Taylor
Nihilarian replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
and yet you have games like this where all his playmakers are injured or out and all he has are mostly scrubs to throw to... The penalties abound and the defense gives up 4 TD passes to Brady and another TD on the ground and all fans can think of is the QB. How about this, Gillislee was averaging 7.1 yards per carry in the game and the gameplan to run the ball went out the window when the team fell behind in points so he only saw 12 carries all game. Let's face it, Taylor didn't have Hogan (7/11) Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Rob Gronkowski, Martellus Bennett or anyone playing even close to that talent today. When you have some top talent all over the field it opens up other areas because no team can cover all those receivers. When you have one or two sorta receiving threats on the offense it's really easy for opponents to double up on them and make any QB look bad. Like I said, I'm more upset about how poorly the defense played with Dareus and Shaq Lawson in there with the defense only missing AW. Then I am over Tyrod without most of the offense on the field and the players on the field all dinged up. -
OK, let's do this: Tyrod Taylor
Nihilarian replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I agree with most of this. After only starting 22 game starts and winning half of those he isn't all that bad. The late great Bill Walsh used to say it takes around four years of development before a rookie QB realizes his potential. This is a run first team and it was without its star RB who made that offense work so well in the wins. We knew the QB was going to be in trouble today without his star RB, without his star WR in Watkins or even his long ball catcher in Goodwin, with an injured backup RB and #2 WR, a TE who always seems to be dinged. For the love of god look at the scrubs that Tyrod was forced to throw to today. I kinda think it would be damn near impossible for any NFL QB to throw for 300 yards with the receiving corps the Bills started that game with! Now think about how pissed Brady gets when he has a new receiver out on the field who isn't always in perfect sync with him. Then, almost every Bills offensive skill player was injured at some point in the game. I'll tell you what, so many Bills fans will be crying in their beer when the Bills start a rookie QB who starts throwing INT's over and over. Geno Smith anyone? In my view, this team needs a better defense almost as badly as it needs a better QB. And 41 points to any team at home is more unacceptable to me than the play of the QB attempting to play with half an offense. -
OK, let's do this: Tyrod Taylor
Nihilarian replied to TakeYouToTasker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yea well, somewhere Karl Dunbar is laughing too. -
Have some patience! 2019 isn't that far away. The defense was missing two players and even those two had they played it wouldn't have made much difference. Tom Brady had his way as usual with 300+ yards passing and 4 TD's.
-
Whaley should be embarrassed today
Nihilarian replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Like someone else said, basically an entire team. Bills fans were talking about the lack of depth in so many areas on this team for a lot of the off season and it shows up every year. Even with a fully healthy offensive roster the Bills offense couldn't keep up with Brady and the defense was fully healthy and couldn't contain him 300+ yards passing and 4 TD's!! It's games like this one that shows this team isn't even close to being competitive enough to even get to the playoffs much less win a playoff game. Who keeps drafting and bringing in free agent players that can't stay healthy or have injury issues? The Patriots had more injuries that most teams last year and still almost made it to the SB. Overpaying for star players that can't stay healthy and limits the cap so there is little or no quality depth. -
Wow, what a dreamer is right! Did you not just watch Brady rip the Bills defense for over 300 passing yards and 4 TD's? Or the week before a basically unknown Miami RB rush for 215 yards against that Buffalo D! That Buffalo defense that was supposedly improved this year is currently ranked 20th in the league before the NE game. This team will never improve as long as the team needs to keep upgrading and drafting for the defense just like the Jets did in Ryan's 6 years there. Every first round pick went to the defense and yet in his final season he went 4-12. Around 2019 the new owners might think about changing things up. i
