  1. Most Bills fans simply don't understand that sitting and watching the games or going over game film is nothing like on the field actual game day playing experience. It's the actual playing experience that counts and Taylor still only has 29 games of playing experience. I don't buy that Taylor can't read a defense or is that inaccurate. I happen to think he is very conservative and careful with the ball which is a great ability to have. When you consider the supporting cast he has had with so many receivers injured over the course of the season and how careful Taylor is with the ball. Watkins and Clay finally showed up in the Miami game and Taylor threw for 329 yards, 3 TD's. When was the last time this team had 589 yards of offense? Taylor has earned his payday in my view. If the defense could make a tackle and the kicker make the 2x FG's the Bills win that game. Granted Taylor is not a prototypical pocket passer and when asked to win games with his arm he hasn't hit that level of ability just yet. That may yet come as this QB is still under two years of playing experience. Taylor is a running QB who works well in a run-first offensive scheme and we all saw just how good the offense can be when everything clicks. I think the issue with Tayor is more conclusive than most think because if the Bills don't sign him about five other NFL teams would pick him up and pay him. He would answer to the main problem with the Jets, Browns, Bears, Rams and 49ers. The OP is correct in that the QB is not the main problem. The defense at many positions, overall team discipline, the injuries to the WR corps and other positions all year, the kicker choking along with special teams giving up big returns, the RT position. The coaching staff needs a big upgrade at HC and DC, special teams coach. I think it's a foregone conclusion that the Bills will lock up Taylor after watching that Miami game.
  2. Tom Coughlin: First off, age has nothing to do with how good a head coach can be unless he has health problems. Dick Vermiel was 61 when hired by St Louis and in three years they won the SB. Marv Levy was also 61 when he took the bills HCing job and coached the Bills until he was 72. Marv is now 91. An older head coach could be a bridge to the coordinator he hires. One thing is for certain this team will be disciplined under Coughlin and he also supports a 4-3 scheme while having a strong run game. His teams will have fewer penalties and actually be able to tackle. Grade, big improvement! Bill Cowher: (age 59) no team has been able to lure "the chin" away from the broadcast booth for various reasons. The most important reason is he wants a solid established QB. Cowher is also a disciplinarian who won't allow players to constantly screw up. If you look closely at Cowher's body of work in Pittsburgh he was able to take the Steelers to the playoffs 10 out of the 15 years he was there and he was able to do that with mostly scrubs at QB. Neil O'Donnell- Kordell Stewart-Mike Tomczak-Tommy Maddox all scrubs. He didn't get Big Ben until the last three years in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, Tomlin has had Big Ben his entire time in his ten years as Steelers HC and has missed the playoffs four times. Cowher will return to coaching in the NFL in the right circumstance and the way the Bills FO is currently structured he many not even consider it. Jim Schwartz: This man took over a team that didn't win a single game in 2008 (0-16)and got them in the playoffs in three years at 10-6. QB Matthew Stafford fell on his face after making the playoffs in 2011 and the team went with him. Schwartz was fired after a 7-9 2013 season. The Lions hired an offensive minded HC to help QB Matt Stafford. The Buffalo Bills FO will need to decide what type of HC they want to hire as this team did well under Lynn and it might be wise to keep him as OC while allowing him to continue to run the offense. Then hire a defensive guy like Coughlin, Cowher, Schwartz to build the defense.
  3. I'm very happy that MAJBobby has no voice at all with what happens in regards to the players! The guy just won't quit his endless crusade against the best offense, QB this team has seen since Bledsoe and it should only get better with more experience for the QB. A better coaching staff along with a better defense and healthy receivers.
  4. Marrone was and still is joined at the hip with Nathaniel Hackett, as a result, he won't be a good head coach unless Hackett grows a brain. If Terry Pegula is to hire an ex-Buffalo Bills HC it should be Wade Phillips who can fix the defense. Keep Lynn as OC and let Wade bring that Denver defense into Buffalo. Hello Playoffs!
  5. The very last thing I would like to see in Buffalo is a head coach new to being an NFL head coach! The learning curve is so steep and so unforgiving to head coaches new to the NFL. As Chan Gailey said "you don't know what you don't know". Particularly someone who was a RB coach for 12 years and became an assistant HC in 2015 while still being a RB coach. Then in 2016 took over as OC after Greg Roman was fired after two weeks. I'd rather see someone more successful as an OC in running an offense for a few years. As someone else mentioned this is Rex Ryan's offense which he wanted a run-first scheme that Greg Roman installed and it is Roman's playbook the team is running with. If I were to choose a person new to being a head coach I think it would be either Kyle Shanahan who has been brilliant in getting the ball to the Falcons playmakers with the #1 offense in points, #2 offense in yards. Or perhaps Redskins OC Sean McVay who had that Redskin offense #9 in points and #3 in yards. As for an experienced HC, I'd go for Tom Coughlin, Bill Cowher or Jim Schwartz. Above all else, this franchise is in desperate need of a team president of football operations for several reasons. First to evaluate the scouts to find the reason they are so bad in finding offensive talent. Next, the team doctors and trainers need to be upgraded so the team isn't constantly bringing in injured players in free agency or the draft.
  6. Losing to the Dolphins means Rex Ryan's defense has failed to win a game against a QB with a winning record all season long. Matt Moore as the Miami backup QB was 1-0.
  7. The OP has blinders on that make him ignore the almost 600 yards of offense the Bills put on the Dolphins and even as bad as the defense played it was the kicker that really let down the team with two missed FG's. Taylor making some beautiful called runs and Miami had no answer for them and even with Sammy Watkins, Charles Clay playing injured Taylor showed he can sling it around some. Taylor 26 of 39 for 329 yards, 3 TDs. A QBR 83.6. Of all the problems with this team the QB position and offense is near the least of them and yet this won't dissuade the OP from his crusade.
  8. Whatever idiot offered a 5-year contract after hiring a 4-12 HC needs to be fired right along with Ryan.
  9. Buffalo with 589 yards of offense and still didn't win because of 2x missed FG's and a defense that can't stop the 26th ranked offense
  10. Buffalo had 589 yards of offense and still couldn't win because they couldn't get a FG 2x and the defense couldn't get a stop.
  11. Perhaps he likes Rex Ryan's defense when it gives up another 200-yard rushing day to a Dolphins RB for the second time in a season. Or maybe he enjoys watching the buffalo defense giving up almost 500 yards of offense to the 26th ranked Miami offense twice in a season. Buffalo had 589 yards of offense against Miami and it wasn't enough because the defense couldn't make a stop when needed. I happen to like this year's version of Rex Ryan where he keeps his mouth shut and does his job. The problem is his version of a defense is outdated and no longer viable in today's NFL and the current defensive players will need to relearn how to tackle. Goodbye, Rex!
  12. four Bills defenders around him and none can make a stinking tackle
  13. Okay, take the fork out of Rex Don't put it in the drawer just yet though
  14. Felton probably the leading receiver today for Buffalo
  15. Bills run defense stinking again.
  16. The bolded was my point exactly in regards to the Bills run game looking so dominant. The 2013 Bills run game was #2 in the league in yards and #1 in attempts and went 6-10 with a much crappier line. My take on the YPC average being so good is a combination with Tyrod Taylor getting some big averages when he runs and McCoy putting up some crazy big averages against the bad teams. As far as Tyrod goes just look at his receiver corps this year as Sammy Watkins still is playing injured as is Clay. Woods has had both knee and foot injuries and played injured a lot this year. Last year Watkins was the leading receiver on the team with over 1000 yards, 9 TD's in 13 games played! This year the leading TD scorer is Justin Hunter with 4 TD's from catching a grand total of 9 receptions for 125 yards. Yea, that's right. Sammy has only played in 6 games and has been playing injured in every game. It also helps the offense if the defense was worth a damn that could stop the run and keep the score down to around 25 points. Which looks to be the magic number. Also In my view, Tyrod Taylor has been playing injured quite a bit and somewhat handicapped because of the limitations of his receiver corps. This has hindered his development this year somewhat. With a healthy receiver corps and a better defense, this team is easily in the playoffs this year. We saw this last year too.
  17. Currently, 27th against the run tells me that Ryan's defense is not only bad, it's embarrassingly bad. 31st in rushing TD's allowed. At this point, I don't know what new head coach I want to see in Buffalo an offensive or defensive minded guy. Perhaps another special teams guy like Marv or Harbaugh.
  18. Bottom line here is the Bills offensive line is not "the" problem! Although, in my view, it is part of the problem as RG Miller and RT Mills are simply not good enough. Should the Bills somehow make the playoffs this year and need to play a team in the playoffs these deficiencies in line talent will become more obvious. Want to talk dominant? I look at Buffalo and would say if there is anything dominant about the offense it's LeSean McCoy and his ability to just make some ridiculous moves at times and make defenders look ridiculous attempting to tackle him. Shades of Barry Sanders and Buffalo is so lucky to have a player like him and yet his talent is being wasted just like Barry Sanders was in Detroit. Shady should make the HoF. If that Pittsburgh game showed me anything it's that both Rex Ryan and Anthony Lynn were out coached and out game planned. Ryan failing to stop Le'Veon Bell and Lynn's failure to get the Bills run game going. In several games this year, Lynn abandons the run game and forces Tyrod to carry the offense. Which in my view is pretty stupid considering the known limitations in TT, the known receiver issues and knowing that the team needs to run the ball effectively in order to win. This is a big reason I'm hoping that should Ryan get fired that Whaley doesn't promote Lynn to head coach.
  19. Most fans don't want to hear this and would rather just point at the QB not being good enough! No QB is ever going to be good enough with the one, lone star WR always hurt. The second best WR is a really good blocker and not as great in getting open or getting separation and the same thing goes with the starting TE. The rest are just scrubs and there has to be better talent in the draft out there. Yea sure receivers are running wide open all over the field every game and the QB never sees them ...or simply doesn't trust them to be in the right spot or catch the ball at all. If the team keeps Whaley he had better find some top talent in the free agent WR market like Alshon Jeffery because he and his scouts don't do so well in grading offensive college talent. Martellus Bennett is a UFA. Plus the team needs to find a decent starting RT. This is why I keep hoping that the team hires a president of football operations to help identify top offensive talent through the draft and bring in better doctors and trainers.
  20. It would be interesting to see how the Bills stack up to the Cowboys offensive line stats. I'll say again that the right side of the Bills line is simply not good enough and perhaps a more dominant RT would help improve Miller. Bills fans always seem to forget that this is a run-first team that basically lives or dies with the run game! So it really is imperative that it works all game long. Getting behind in points is not a valid excuse to stop using it either. To the Bills fans that state that it's irrational to think about getting such good stats by playing bad teams because all teams play bad teams...these fans are missing the point on what it takes to get a team into the playoffs and beyond. What's important to me is how the team faired against the better defenses in the league because that is who they need to beat in order to get to the playoffs and ultimately the super bowl. The Bills run game faltered badly against the Ravens, Jets, Miami, Pittsburgh. The Bills still lost to the Seahawks, Patriots, Raiders while having a punishing run game and it was the defense that let the team down in those games. But that is another story. The Bills defense also played a big part in the loss to the Jets and Miami. But again, that's another story and just says that the defense isn't good enough either. Another stat that would be interesting to see is how Tyrod Taylor's time to throw matches up to last year when he had Watkins to throw to for 1047 yards and 9 TD's. He also had Hogan and other receivers that didn't end up on IR to throw to. In my view, the Bills offensive line is not dominating when we see a great RB like LeSean McCoy held to a 2,6 yard per carry average all game long against the Steelers. Then we look at the other side and see Le'Veon Bell averaging 6.2 yards per carry to end up with 236 yards rushing on 38 carries. That is an embarrassment to me on both sides of the ball. Against the hapless Browns McCoy had 19 rushes for 153 yards, 2 TD's with an 8.1 yard per carry average. Yea, dominant
  21. I would be okay with Coughlin as a bridge for a few years to finding a highly qualified eventual successor. Let's face it, between Wade Phillips who the last Bills HC to make the playoffs in 1999. The Bills have had Greg Williams, Mike Mularkey, Dick Jauron, Perry Fewell, Chan Gailey, Doug Marrone and now Rex Ryan. Seven head coaches in the last seventeen years and they all have sucked in one way or another. Also, In that time the Bills and since GM John Butler the Bills have had Tom Donahoe, Marv Levy, Russ Brandon, Buddy Nix and now Doug Whaley as GM's. Come to think of it I'd rather hire Wade Phillps as HC as he is 69 and find a team president of football operations who can fix the trainers, doctors and find this team it's franchise QB!
  22. I've been highly critical of the Buffalo Bills offensive lines over the years and I can say that the line isn't the problem! Although, it does have its own problems with some backup players and starters on the right side. It is part of the overall problem at times. Yes, some of the backups can hold their own against bad teams. However, RG Miller and RT Mills are simply not good enough to be starters. If the Bills had played teams more with winning records this year it would have been more obvious. This is a run-first offense that heavily relies on the run game to ensure that the offense actually works and can score. Time and time again when opponents shut down the Bills run game those teams usually end up shutting down the entire offense as the receiver corps and QB are simply not good enough to carry the team. Yes, the 2016 Buffalo Bills have the best rushing offense in the NFL but not the leading rusher or near the best offensive line. What this year's team is great at is pounding the bad teams with running the ball and then getting the run game shut down against some teams. Example, 313 yards of rushing offense against the hapless 1-13 49ers, and yet only 65 rush yards against the Ravens, 86 against the NY Jets, 67 rush yards against Miami, and 67 rush yards against the Steelers. Guess what? All four of those failures to run the ball were losses and IMHO the difference between Buffalos record in being 11-3 and 7-7.
