Roland Hooks and Super Joe!
Dave in Avon Lake now replied to Rocket94's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was at the game as well and we left because it started snowing and game seemed out of reach. We heard the crowd roar and tried to turn around as we were walking to our car outside Rich, but too late. It would have been my first live look at a "Hail Mary" Fergy rightfully deserves praise for his abilities and that was a great demonstration of what he could do. I think some of his heroics are overshadowed by blunders at critical times. Not sure how I would rank him as Bills QB but probably 3rd after Kelly and Lamonica. -

I'd rather think about blow out losses with Josh at QB. Don't remember offhand, but most of his losses last year were close games. I like under the radar Bills. Hopefully we can get a good start to the season and roll on. It isn't impossible to win the division if we play like we did in 2017 and catch a few breaks. -
Remembering Jack Kemp
Dave in Avon Lake now replied to The Senator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember Jack from his playing days and Washington, DC. I never had the chance to meet him, but always admired his compassion for working people. A true class act that Washington needs these days. This may be nostalgic thinking, but things used to be better in those days. -
How did you become a Bills fan?
Dave in Avon Lake now replied to JPL7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was actually an NFL fan in the 60s watching a lot of Browns games on local TV. My older brother was a Bills fan, but I really didn't become a big fan until I moved to Buffalo in 1977. I went to several games in those years as ticket prices were cheap and the stadium was a lot of fun. When they started winning in 1980, I was hooked. I also became a Sabres fan around the same time. I moved away from Buffalo in 1983 and never lost my love for the Bills and Sabres. I love following my team on this site although I don't post much. -
Greg Landry's FA Dos and Don'ts
Dave in Avon Lake now replied to stuvian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Greg Landry used to be the Lions QB. Not sure if it is the same guy -
I lived in Miami when Marino was king. My son adopted them, but I hated them. I lived in DC when Redskins won two of their three superbowls. I rooted for them the first time when they beat Denver, then we lost to them and I hated all the obnoxious skins fans. I lived in Chicago when the Bulls were great and the Bears were not, so didn't really root one way or the other. Moved to New England in early 2001 just in time for Superbowl run. I was OK when they won the first time, but really hated them after that. Now I'm in SC where the local teams are all several hours away. Its been tough being a Bills fan, but I usually meet fans who moved here and are still fiercely loyal.

Coach of the year candidates

I think Lynn deserves a lot of credit for what he did with San Diego. They've had Rivers for a long time, but couldn't get by the Chiefs, Broncos and Raiders. I think he wins tonight and that could get him some extra votes. -
Seems like we've been beating the Fins pretty steadily since Jim Kelly arrived. I know we lost 20 in a row in the 70's but in checking we are still 47-60-1 against our rivals. Will we ever catch up? I'd like to think that with the maturity of Josh Allen and our offense improving, we could start dominating our division the way the Pats have since 2001 and maybe even out those records. While I was at it, I noticed the Pats hold the edge 73-43-1. The only team in our division we have a winning record against is the Jets 62-54.

Saw something about avoiding politics on Thanksgiving and thought it might be interesting to see if the same holds true for football teams. I have Dolphins fans, a Raiders fan, Browns fans and Patriots fans in my family though I don't remember anything getting too heated. Patriots family were probably most obnoxious, but we moved away from New England last year, so don't see that side of the family now. How about you?

The next 6 games... I expect
Dave in Avon Lake now replied to SuperBills12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fun topic I will go with 5-1 as I still can't see us beating the Pats unless it is meaningless. Looks like they will be playing for homefield advantage for at least one game. I really think we can take the Jags, Fins (twice), Lions & Jets again. -
I remember the days in the late 70's when the Bills were mostly unwatchable, but the fans were always great. I know the lack of TDs or even FGs is tough, but every now and then the team might surprise. Maybe this is the week Peterman plays out of his mind and Bills are competitive. Maybe game will be full of turnovers going our way. As a battle-scarred Bills fan, I've learned not to be too optimistic and enjoy the games. Now that I live far away, I even DVR the games so I can skip the bad parts for that one bit of good. Go and have fun! At least it isn't snowing yet.

I am in a 2QB league and unfortunately missed the draft. My original picks through autodraft were Darnold and Tyrod Taylor. As you can probably guess things went south when Tyrod was benched and people tend to stash QBs in the draft. To protect myself only Bills players were available for Week 1, so I picked up Peterman and Allen not knowing who would start. I used Taylor and Darnold until Tyrod was benched and had to switch to Allen. As you know all to well, Peterman was the only QB available until Derek Anderson showed up in week 7? I was forced to start Peterman in week 9 and actually got 12 points (probably because of the rushing TD) This week I'm still waiting for who will start, but I'm guessing it will be Peterman. Darnold has been lousy the last several weeks so on a whim I found McCown was available so I'm currently McCown/Peterman. It gets worse next week as everyone has a bye. What would you do?

After reading several posts of what we are doing wrong, how about a little positivity? Game tickets are getting cheaper. Back in the day (late 70's) I used to get end zone tickets for $8 and still had fun with a lousy team. Next year is going to be better cause it can't get much worse. At least the Sabres are getting better. You can always drink your sorrows and now you can take Uber or Lyft home. If you live out of town you don't have to pay the outrageous price for Sunday ticket. Every couple of weeks, the team looks like they have a chance. You can enjoy the outdoors more because you're not stuck inside watching the Bills. You could have been a Raiders fan. Winter is coming so you won't have to shovel snow or scrape ice off your car to get to a late season home game. Your wife might not yell at you as much for watching and cursing at the Bills when they lose. Feel free to add your own!
