  1. You can certainly make a case for him in the 1st given prior years. If Manuel, Ponder, Locker, Gabbert can be 1st rounders so can Carson. From that standpoint, I totally get it. I just don't know that I'm comfortable with him being talked up as a high pick in the 1st given the obstacles he has to overcome. It's not just Carson either, I probably won't have a first round grade on any QB this year. Given the scheme he played in and the lack of experience, fit matters for him so much. Circumstances have to be perfect for him. As I said, Dallas would be okay from a circumstanial POV. I think Buffalo and Denver are the other ones that make a ton of sense. NDSU have a similar multiple run, run to set up the pass scheme to Greg Roman and his skill set is very Kubiak-friendly. Even if he has to play early, Kubiak can allow him to move the pocket and simplify his reads while he develops. I like the kid but I'm not sure he's a sure thing. If he's on the board at 19, I think you have to at least consider it but it needs to be with a plan in mind.
  2. Oh, I don't think it'll be close. Kawann Short is going to knock Peyton out of his final game and the Panthers win by 13 at least.
  3. He's just not good enough to be a 1st round QB. The infatuation with skyrocketing QB value will raise expectation and it might destroy his career. If he's going anywhere in the 1st, Dallas is the spot. Established QB in place. If he's called into action early, he'll get good protection. I just fear that he'll end up somewhere that'll play him from Day 1 and he'll struggle.
  4. Have to admit, I hadn't watched much of Illinois but Karras really impressed me. Drew rave reviews in practice from many people. The way he pulls so gracefully, I wonder if he could be a late round grooming project to eventually take over from Richie at LG.
  5. My enjoyment of Wentz has plummeted now that "Big Draft" has got eyes on him. I really can't have nice things.
  6. So, Eric Wood gets in ahead of Weston Richburg? Yep, Pro Bowl is still a joke.
  7. Got to admit I'm kinda in love with David Onyemata, the kid from Manitoba. Didn't even play the game until 2011 but he's properly put together. Grown man out there.
  8. Vernon has forced a lot of people to take a look at him (or another look at him). Give the kid credit, he did everything he could in 9 throws to impress. That said there's no blitzing (outside of Joe Bolden), bland coverage schemes. It's made for him to thrive. Before tonight, wasn't even in my mind to consider him draftable.
  9. Consider me sold on the idea of Taylor Decker at 19. Undoubtedly my #2 tackle and he's not far behind Laremy Tunsil in my grades. I think he would be an instant upgrade at RT and Glenn's status is still in limbo at this point. I'd feel comfortable with him playing either tackle spot. He's not a sexy player, I think that's why some are unsure of him. He's not Greg Robinson bowling some guy across the field blocking a screen. Just really solid all around game. Length and feet are very impressive in pass pro. Nasty in the run game, can execute at the 2nd level well. Don't see a glaring weakness in his game.
  10. I wrote a quick preview for the Shrine Game. Just a few guys that might interest the Bills over the process. http://buffalofambase.org/2016/01/23/2016-east-west-shrine-game-preview/
  11. There was a scenario where we could've been granted a 6th round compensatory pick but I can't remember the circumstances that would make it happen. Chris Brown seemed to intimate a week or so ago that we would be in line for a compensatory pick of some nature. Frankly, I haven't got a clue how they work this stuff out but I always expect nothing.
  12. I actually like Tyler Higbee from Western Kentucky in that early Day 3 range. Good hands, decent athlete for 6' 6", 250, can attack down the seam, willing blocker but needs refinement. WKU was 112th in the nation in run plays per game so part of the blocking stuff is a smaller than average exposure to it. Experience inline, flexed in the slot and at H-Back. Doughty's safety valve this year. Would make for a decent #2 option.
  13. I find the disparity in value between LT and RT to be a little confusing these days (not a personal attack Astro, I promise). You can't hide an iffy pass protector at RT anymore. Pressure comes from everywhere. I respect the value of the blindside protection but I think it's time people viewed every OL spot as a specialist skill set. No more "if he can't play LT, put him at RT. If he can't play there, stick him at guard" nonsense. It's a strict case-by-case basis of what a guy does best. If he's versatile, all the better. Take Stephane Nembot from Colorado. I was watching him a few days ago and he was a bit meh playing RT, workable but still meh. He switched to LT for the USC game and looked a different player entirely. Plenty of cases over the past couple of years has lead me to believe that the distinction between LT & RT isn't so much their skill set but their movement skills in a certain direction. Most guys are inherently better moving one direction over the other. I guess I'm saying that I don't believe that LT is quite the premium position I originally thought it was. The value is in the player, not the position.
  14. After watching him today, I would take Dak Prescott in the 4th round. Comparing him to the sophomore I kinda fell in love with for being a ballsy battering ram, it's night and day.
  15. If there's a worry about RB usage, it should be the cumulative effect. To a certain degree, I think it's a myth at their age that college carries will adversely alter their productivity in the near future. You should get the guy you draft for the duration of his rookie deal at the very least. Running back perception is just a pet peeve of mine. Johnathan Gray had 123 carries for Texas this year and tore his achilles prepping for the draft process but there's no narrative for that. The age/usage/productivity thing should be a 2nd contract worry.
  16. The top 5 running backs by the CBS rankings: Ezekiel Elliott: 592 carries, 58 catches - 650 scrimmage plays. Derrick Henry: 602 carries, 17 catches - 619 scrimmage plays. Alex Collins: 665 carries, 27 catches - 692 scrimmage plays. Kenneth Dixon: 802 carries, 87 catches - 889 scrimmage plays. Devontae Booker: 560 carries, 80 catches - 640 scrimmage plays. I feel the narrative is a little overblown. This message is brought to you by the Derrick Henry fan club.
  17. East guys I'm looking for: Parker Ehinger (listed as a guard but he's a tackle for me), Steven Scheu, Robby Anderson, Cody Core, Victor Ochi, Justin Simmons. West: Stephane Nembot, Nate Sudfeld, Ryan Malleck, Keyarris Garrett, Tevin Carter, Aziz Shittu.
  18. I think I saw the same game Bandit did of Allen and I'm at least curious. I think people look for different things when they talk about backup types. Not entirely sure he's good but he might be backup material. Same with Kevin Hogan and Joel Stave. I don't like them as starter/developmental guys but they might be good long term backups.
  19. It was Week 1 against Wofford. He is a junior and I believe he still could apply for a medical redshirt depending on his recovery.
  20. I really don't like Conklin. His technique is so inconsistent. I tweeted my frustration about him and a member of his family replied. AWKWARD!
  21. I tried to go away from my normal route with this. I don't mind this one bit. 19: R1P19 OT TAYLOR DECKER OHIO STATE 49: R2P18 ILB BLAKE MARTINEZ STANFORD 80: R3P17 WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON MISSISSIPPI STATE 114: R4P19 DT MATT IOANNIDIS TEMPLE 144: R5P17 C JACK ALLEN MICHIGAN STATE 174: R6P17 K KA'IMI FAIRBAIRN UCLA
  22. Finally got around to Brandon Doughty. Got to admit, not a big fan. Ticks the boxes for height/weight pretty easily. Solid mechanics. Good arm strength. Footwork is okay, think the field at LSU was the root cause of some of his issues in that game. Accuracy/placement is passable, not great. Works predominently out of shotgun/pistol sets. Shows the ability to manipulate defenders well, can pick apart zone coverage effectively. Does lock on to defined pre-snap reads a little too much (possible that the scheme holds him back in this regard). Can hold the ball a little too long at times, not sure he has a natural feel for pressure in the pocket. Struggles to speed up his processes under pressure. Decision making can be a bit erratic. Given his age (6th year senior), has an injury history (nothing recent though) and the need to learn how to take snaps under center of a regular basis, he came out as a 6th rounder. Wouldn't hate him for the Bills but I don't see him being much more than a career backup. If the task is to find a guy to develop, I'd pass.
  23. I want to dig into Decker some more but he might be my OT2 over Stanley. I think he's solid and dependable, which is a lot better than your average OL starter across the league. After the consensus top 3, maybe Joe Haeg from NDSU in the 3rd. Parker Ehinger from Cincinnati might be a guy that interests me early Day 3. Not watched Shon Coleman yet but I don't see many Day 1 or even Year 1 options for the Bills.
  24. Honestly, outside of Tunsil, I'm not a huge fan of this OT class. Maybe have to pull the trigger on Taylor Decker at 19 if we want an upgrade of any kind.
