Is McGowan the next Jason Peters?
Blokestradamus replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The next step for him is to get down to 350lbs. Re-test the athletic ability at that point and work out his optimal playing weight from there. I think he's going to struggle to play guard but he could be a very long term tackle prospect. Believe it or not, he used to be a place kicker in HS too. -
There's a natural assumption that being a football player makes you a meathead. We saw it with Bridgewater & Mariota, the debates about whether they were Alpha males and natural born leaders. You get the occasional Jonathan Martin where he's so placid, he's practically submissive and ends up as easy pickings but often, most are somewhere in the middle. Biggest thing I'm curious about is what drives them. Everyone in football is financially driven but is he looking for that one signing bonus as a rookie? With how good Joey is technically, I have no doubts that he takes his craft seriously.

Joey does strike me as an odd dude. Honestly, the Mario Williams comparison seems to fit more and more. Just more glowsticks than RC cars. I can't foresee Joey dropping out of the top 10. Zeke might not get past Philly at 8, worst case would be Oakland at 14. Just a pair of supremely talented guys.

I saw something that Bosa and Zeke both have 'party drug' concerns. Not sure it isn't sabotage by teams in the teens trying to orchestrate a drop. I did see that 'Bosa likes to go to raves "Because he likes the music", which teams find highly questionable'. Gonna be honest, I nearly spat my coffee out.

Steward, Randall Johnson, or Reddick
Blokestradamus replied to All I Need is Hope's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm going to stay moderately bullish on Randell Johnson. Long, rangy athlete that can contribute on ST. Manny has stayed effective longer than I thought he would so his chances have been limited but he's shown flashes during preseason that keep me intrigued. -
I'm still on the Ragland bandwagon. So is Jeff Risdon. You should read this - http://draftbreakdown.com/reggie-ragland-and-the-decline-of-hair-metal/

Let's not fool ourselves here. Cronyism is rife with all 32 teams, the NFL is essentially an old boys club with little inclination for taking on what it doesn't know. The guy sounds dodgy but this is Rex's world. We're just living in it. Blake coached a few decent DL at UNC so hopefully the appointment pays off, it kinda needs to.

The classiest part of this is that he chose to walk away when there was a deal on the table from the Packers. He knew he couldn't take their money when he felt this way. If his career is over, he can be proud of getting further in the game than most could dream of.

Put some of this together this afternoon and it seems like there's no clear correlation between CFB stats and an NFL opportunity just yet. Still missing a few XP stats from small schoolers. Taking into account all kickers on active rosters in 2015, their CFB averages are 75.9% FG's made and 97.4% XP made. Not gone into distance splits yet, which might be more telling. Only 9 kickers had a FG% of 80 or above. Just 2 above 85% (Graham Gano & Steven Hauschka). Biggest outlier was Jacksonville's Jason Myers, converting just 63.2% at Marist.

Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft
Blokestradamus replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Might see another adjustment back up the board soon. Pro day times were in the 4.71-4.78 range. To keep his grade for me, he had to equal Devin Funchess (4.70). If the league wants to let him go late Day 3, I'd happily take him and prosper. -
Over the summer, I'm going to dig into college stats for all NFL kickers. See if there's a general threshold for success. Yes, I know I'm extremely nerdy.

Bills fire DL coach Karl Dunbar

I'd take it if that made him exempt from the salary cap. -

Jets beat writer. Seems pretty well connected from what I've seen. -

Gonna wait for the reasons why because this is perplexing timing. Automatic assumption is a personal issue of some form. -
I've not watched anything for the past 2-3 weeks, I've completely checked out from this class. So much so that I've spent the weekend sorting out my 2017 watch list. Not watched Smith outside of live games (have the USF game on my PC), but I'm intrigued by his testing numbers and the comparisons. LB depth is an issue for the Bills and guys like Smith & Roberts can at least contribute on ST early. Another LB to throw on that pile is Utah's Jared Norris.

I've spoken so much about Dak and his character over the past couple of years. I'm not going to throw him under a bus because of one mistake. It's a stupid thing to do and a stupid time to do it. Quite frankly, the kid is smart enough to know better. His mother raised him to be better than this and that will probably hurt him more than any dropping of draft stock. Front up to it, own it and learn from it.

Unrestricted Free Agents for 2016
Blokestradamus replied to Uffalo Ills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Been very impressed with the acquisitions the Bears have made so far. Overhauled their ILB's without overspending. -
Pretty decent numbers for my boy, Juwan Brescacin. Listed as 6'4" 230lbs. I think he's capable of playing WR in the NFL or packing on 10-15lbs and playing TE. Great hands catcher, blocks like his life depends on it. Lack of production makes him little more than a late Day 3 pick at best but dude can play. @Platinum_FB @NIU_Football Juwan Brescacin ran a 4.6 to 40 yard dash, and had a 36.5 vertical today at pro day. Caught all his passes even tough ones! Also clocked 7.03 in the 3-cone drill. For comparison, Kenny Lawler from Cal clocked 7.13 at 6'2", 203 in Indy. Will Fuller was 6.93 at 6' 186lbs. Bang in the middle at 6'4, 230 is impressive.

Everything I've written can be found here - http://buffalofambase.org/author/stephen-culley/ I think the draft has to go with the strength of the class. DL should be a priority. Whaley drafts for future need as much as current need, would be worth looking for a replacement for Kyle. Might be smart to double up on DL talent Day 1/2, If a WR or OT falls into place on the board, that would be tempting. Some stuff obviously depends on FA. With Rambo possibly not coming back, safety might be another future need. Corey isn't getting any younger.

I don't think the Bills can get worse in the free agency period. None of the losses were that important and they paved the way for OL continuity, Add a couple of guys that fit Rex better at DL or LB on reasonable deals, the defense should be marginally better. Communication issues get sorted, they're possibly 2 wins better on their own. We retain pretty much everyone offensively that helped lead the NFL in rushing. 2nd year in a system, QB still on a cheap deal. I think the team would have to suffer catastrophic injuries to do worse than last year. Being better relies on better coaching/execution. Same as with 31 other teams.

So this wasn't all a dream? Good lord, Texans. This is getting someone fired soon. Terrible contract.
