  1. The idea, for me, is to get better at every position. Preston was sub-par last year and Ragland represents a significant upgrade in my eyes. We already have the complementary skill set in Zach Brown. Nothing precluding them from taking a shot later on an athletic guy to back him up and eventually replace him. I find it quite interesting that your counterpoint was Billings. I don't know where he fits in sub packages and I certainly don't think he's a disruptive pass rusher. In a 4-man front, Dareus has the 1-Tech locked up and I wouldn't trust Billings playing 3-Tech.
  2. I've seen a lot of concerns about Ragland in coverage, particularly when you pair him with Preston Brown. What if we take Ragland to replace Preston? Station him with Zach Brown for 2016. Preston is experienced depth with knowledge of the scheme. For me, that's how you create depth.
  3. The difference between a Josh Gordon and your average NFL player is the reason they're using it. Josh seems to have an addictive personality and there's been more than a few worried about his drinking as much as his weed use. Josh clearly has a problem. The wider point is that the NFL has a weird priority on what drugs are prohibited. The amount of drugs taken for pain relief by your average NFL player would probably shock most people. The sole reason they don't have strict testing unless you're already in the program is because half of the league would fail those tests. In terms of societal use, I think it's crazy that weed isn't legal but alcohol is. I don't use the stuff myself but I know people who have/still do. I grew up with an alcoholic father. I know which one is more dangerous. I think it's time that the law moved with the times and the NFL could be a leader in pushing the benefits over prescription drugs. Why they choose not to is beyond me. I agree. A lot of these guys use football as a means of escaping a pretty crappy childhood. The NFL gives them an opportunity that most other careers they're destined for just simply can't.. The vast majority of them seem to be able to keep their old life apart from their new life. Hearing Tyrann Mathieu talking about New Orleans in the past few days is a stark reminder that kids need something to strive for but the path to it isn't easy. A lot of these guys have lived through things that I can't imagine growing up as a middle class kid in a leafy suburb. I find it difficult to judge them without having walked in their shoes.
  4. John struggled with his pass blocking at Louisville too. I wrote about it when I watched him. I actually pegged him to Buffalo because it was one of the few teams that could minimise it while he was coached up. I am all for competition being brought in. No player should be handed a job without merit. I'm just not giving up on him after a year that was interrupted by injury and a position change (LG to RG isn't as easy as some would have you believe). I expect an improvement or I'll start calling for his head myself.
  5. It's absurd that the NFL is so against marijuana as pain relief. The league would much rather players either smoked the synthetic stuff (which can put you in hospital) or take prescription painkillers (which are infinitely more addictive than weed is). I agree with the sentiments that Josh knows the rules and should abide by them. It just seems like the NFL has their priorities completely !@#$ed up.
  6. One of the faults I have with PFF is that it seems like they decide early if someone is bad and fail to grade with complete objectivity. Consensus 'good' players get the benefit of the doubt for certain snaps that consensus 'bad' players don't. I have little faith in their OL or DB rankings. That's just because they don't know assignments for OL. Miller wasn't good last year (I'll admit as much despite liking him) but he was far from being one of the worst guards in the NFL.
  7. At least someone still likes you, Josh. @nacholeber I would love Josh Gordon as a roommate! Can you imagine the amount of snacks and Doritos on hand?! #NFL
  8. Remember when BMarsh tried the 2nd hand pre-emptive defence? https://twitter.com/BMarshall/status/625110644837105665
  9. It's a damn shame because Josh is a phenomenal talent. He just can't make it work for him under the NFL rules. Football isn't important enough for him. I doubt a team can ever trust him again.
  10. I love the fact that Foster has earned his playing time on ST freshman/sophomore years. Can't wait to dig into him over the summer.
  11. If the cap keeps going up every year, I think $20m a year for him now might look like a bargain at the back end of a 5 year deal. Very few players have the talent level and game impact that Von can have. You might not want to pay him but you certainly can't afford not to. Elite talent has a price tag.
  12. You acquire talent when it's there to acquire. If OT is a priority (which I don't think it is for the Bills), you get the best you can when you need it. Carolina and New England probably wished they had a top flight RT when Von Miller ate the lunch of guys like Marcus Cannon and Mike Remmers. Can't hide bad pass protection anymore. Teams like the Bills being more balanced can hide it more than most, which is why I doubt they take a RT early.
  13. I still think Colin is one of the top 32 quarterbacks in the league myself. Not great by any means but worthy of a job somewhere. I think there was a lot at play with his regression. I think someone (Harbaugh, Roman, whoever) pushed his development too far or too quickly and essentially hung him out to dry. Confidence is a funny thing and I think it deserted him in 2014. Last year with a new coach and a line made entirely out of PlayDoh, it just fell apart for him. Definitely makes me curious to watch Tyrod's development next season.
  14. Definitely doesn't seem to be his biggest fan - http://profootballzone.com/nfc/49ers-anthony-davis-took-shot-oc-greg-roman-twitter/
  15. If you're not using him, having a great one is the absolute definition of a luxury. You're paying for the brand when the no-frills one will be just as good if you barely use it. It's not necessarily about talent, it's about value per snap. Felton at his price playing every 4th snap just isn't value. Especially considering that Jerome barely played on ST too. With no Boobie Dixon in 2016, maybe he picks up some of those reps.
  16. If La'el Collins went undrafted because of all that "What if he's a murderer?" nonsense, Higbee doesn't stand a chance. Former Nebraska OL Alex Lewis (who's in this draft class) got a 45 day sentence for something similar. Lewis threw an Air Force cadet head-first into a brick wall and punched him while unconscious.
  17. Yeah, that's what I mentioned last night. Utter disbelief over this, the stupid bastard.
  18. http://www.bgdailynews.com/news/police-alleged-victim-in-higbee-altercation-remains-hospitalized/article_d19f2e48-fff4-11e5-bf2b-6b722e2f95e0.html I think Tyler is done.
  19. Hearing talk that the guy he punched is in ICU with a severe head injury. Higbee could be going down for manslaughter if he doesn't make it.
  20. They brought John Conner in at vet minimum last year. As much as I like Jerome, he's not $1.5m a year better than that. There's a bunch of contracts on the books that make me cringe. Marcus Easley is our #3 highest paid WR for 2016, Percy Harvin is our #2 and he's not even on the roster!!
  21. The only issue I have is that he only played 26.5% of snaps. Hard to justify that salary if you hardly play him. I don't think he's a bad player at all. Hard to get in any kind of rhythm when you're in and out so much.
  22. I'm not happy about it either. Quite frankly, I despise Jordan Mills as a football player. Just that when Mills came in ahead of Kouandjio and Ryan Groy took RT reps ahead of Cyrus too, I figured the old boys network was going to dominate the thinking at RT. Obviously, the Bills had no room to make moves in FA. That's just the way it went securing others in place. I just don't think adding more poor players in the draft is doing anything to help the situation.
  23. I don't anticipate Decker making it to 19. If he does, absolutely pull the trigger. In a world where Ereck Flowers was the 9th pick last year, I don't see any of Tunsil/Stanley/Decker dropping to the Bills. After that, I don't see anyone that's a Year 1 impact starter at RT. A few developmental types that I'm interested in on Day 3 but that's about it. Really poor OT class. I've said before, I think Conklin ultimately gets kicked inside. He might actually end up as a serviceable RG. All I do know is that he can't play left tackle to a high standard.
  24. Mills is under contract now with no guaranteed money. Straight up $1.671m saving if he's cut (as far as I know). Felton only saves $350k.
  25. If Spotrac is accurate on this (no idea about retired/sabbatical players), his salary tops out at $3.65m this year. $2.65m in base salary ($2.1m of which got guaranteed on April 1st) and $62.5k per active game roster bonus totalling $1m. 2017 - $5m 2018 - $6.35m 2019 - $6.35m With zero dead money after the trade too.
