Crystal Ball: Top Prospects for 2016 NFL Draft
Blokestradamus replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Found some notes I thought I'd lost. The running total is 251 players plus any specialists I watch on Wednesday. After the draft is over, I'll consider things like where my life has gone wrong and if I should start going outside and having new hobbies. -
All the heart emojis!

If Storm Woods of Oregon State goes undrafted, I'd love to pick him up. Been watching him this morning, the guy is a gamer. I think Astro likes him too, if I remember correctly. Not your quintessential power back at all, more of a change of pace guy. Decent receiver, really love how much of himself he gives in pass protection. Against Oregon in 2014, he found himself 1-on-1 with Arik Armstead and Deforest Buckner, didn't flinch. All action player.

Draft Time - Who would you love, hate, and expect
Blokestradamus replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Love: 1a) - Sheldon Rankins: Day 1 contributor that can handle NT, 3T and 5T responsibilities. Has played 1-gap and 2-gap roles at Louisville. One of the better pass rushing interior DL in the class and a consumate run defender. 1b) - Noah Spence: Sacrificing a little bit of size from my LDE prototype for a pure pass rusher. Has made tackles look stupid at Ohio State and Eastern Kentucky. Can play SLB in place of Manny Lawson in base fronts (maybe not Day 1 but certainly at some point) and would have enough juice in sub packages to make sure teams have to think about leaving a 6th man in their protection schemes. Chris Jones and Shaq Lawson are 1c and 1d. I'm greedy, sue me. Hate: Jack Conklin - Slow footed tackle prospect with a multitude of technique issues. Has had trouble with defensive ends that I don't think are even draftable. I don't think he's a bad player per se, just think he's horrible value at 19. Expect: I think Chris Jones is the guy I expect, given a lot of the attention he's been getting recently. A little bit of a reach pick for me but one I can live with. His potential is through the roof if you get him motivated and playing with consistent technique and leverage. Isn't NT-capable like Rankins but a future 3-down DL. -
Didn't he retire to become a fireman?

I've seen more and more 1st round talk in the past couple of days so I'm assuming that health isn't an issue. I won't talk about Earl as a prospect comparison. I wasn't draft-savvy when he was eligible so it's not fair. Knowing Earl as a professional, I'd definitely agree that he's infinitely more disciplined as the last line of defense. That's where my issues with Joseph arise. On that point, I know what you mean from an athletic standpoint. I think it would've been close (Combine numbers, not his Pro Day. Not sure I believe anyone in history has had a 1.49 10-yard split). I do flinch at the idea of any safety at 19 not called Jalen Ramsey but I think he would probably be the best safety on the roster instantly (not terribly difficult in my opinion). I'm naturally risk-averse with my safeties so Joseph does scare me. I'm not sure Rex is a coach that will try to curb his natural instincts. Not my first choice but I'm not sure I dislike the idea of Joseph at 19 in terms of pure talent. The possibility of a short shelf life does worry me though.

I put off watching him all year because I knew how I felt about him. He's not as bad as I make him out to be but I see something in him I want next to nothing to do with. I think I'm just tired of the 'Well, he looks like a tackle' criteria that seemingly discounts technique as an afterthought. It's frankly half of what's put the NFL in their current crisis with the offensive line, as much as they want to blame CFB for it all. Just look at Seattle. It's hard to find NFL-ready OL, I'll admit that. What you don't do is draft a 3-Tech DT from Buffalo and play him at guard. It doesn't work like that. It's a lifelong pursuit that takes years of dedication and to see teams as (seemingly) smart as Seattle take such a blase attitude to it annoys me. There's an OL coach out there that thinks Ifedi is fixable. I hope he is because the game needs as many good OL as possible, just not a guy I can get behind. If the Bills want all that length that needs technical refinement, you spent a 2nd round pick on him two years ago. Maybe start with that guy!

Nate Ebner--Finally, a Patriot we can root for.
Blokestradamus replied to mannc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard good things from his Sevens debut. I wish him luck because he seems like a very genuinely decent guy. That being said, England will wipe the floor with you lot. -
Did you watch Ifedi vs Ole Miss? I swear he false started at least 15-20 times in that game. I lost patience with him (if you track back in this thread, you can see my exasperation!), it's a lack of preparation on his part. It's a shame because he can be better. I think his feet are nimble enough to play tackle, he just looks so damn sluggish at times. There are guys in CFB that wish they had what he does and he's wasting it.

Why The Bills Should Draft Offense
Blokestradamus replied to Chilly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wouldn't say no to a WR at 19 but it would have to be on the proviso that they open up the passing game more than Greg Roman has ever done. You throw that valuable a resource at a problem, you'd better have a plan for it to be the solution. Doctson would be more fun. Great ball tracker, massive catch radius, vertically superior to everyone in the class. I also know a bunch of Vikings fans that want him and I want to ruin their night on Thursday. Treadwell would be a sounder pick. Contributes on every play because of his tremendous run blocking. -
Him and Germain Ifedi both getting that hype. I have one as a 6th and one UDFA. Both are players that I actually think are hindered by their length. They're both so long and uncoordinated, it's almost impossible to teach them how to time their punch properly.

Once I put Kelly in, he'll probably slip in at 24/25. Have to decide between him and Cody Whitehair who goes above who, both feature near the top of my 2nd rounders.
-
If you don't see it with him, don't force it. He's the #9 player on my board. I don't have much splitting him from Tunsil.
-
I can confirm I'd rather have Jarod Neal of UT Martin over Christian Hackenberg, Cody Kessler, Joel Stave, Jake Coker. Still a bit raw as a passer but there's something there. He's a switched on kid, knows when to attack and when to check down. Good arm, needs work on his form (falls away on some throws in clean pockets). Shows the ability to step up in the pocket and deliver with anticipation and velocity. Best completion rates were against Arkansas and FCS title finalists Jacksonville State (2 of UTM's toughest 3 opponents, Ole Miss being the other). Needs some physical maturation as well. Ceiling is probably a game manager backup, I wouldn't anticipate him getting drafted but someone should at least get him in a rookie minicamp.

I'm spending my afternoon watching a QB from the Ohio Valley Conference in the FCS. He's been kind enough to put All-22 footage up of 3 games. He's also neglected to include the incompletions. I might give him a draftable grade just for being that brazen.
-
If the Titans traded out of Laremy Tunsil for Jack Conklin, I am going to be HOWLING on Thursday night. If Decker makes it to 19, I don't see how he's not BPA. Something ridculous happens if he's not, like Myles Jack falling.

Carolina rescinds tag on Norman
Blokestradamus replied to CommonCents's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bloody hell. @RapSheet Josh Norman's 5-year, $75M deal with the #Redskins includes $50M in guarantees, source said. Wow. -
The big dog has spoken. Sorry, Conklin fans. When Duke talks OL, I listen. Duke and Geoff Schwartz will have a podcast dedicated to the draft soon, I'll post the link. @BigDuke50 Take it how you want it... there are 4 tackles worth taking in the 1st round: 1)Tunsil 2)Decker 3)Stanley 4)Whitehair (Projects to OG)

There's a lot going on in that case and I'm not entirely sure what to think. Looking at it from the outside, it seems unlikely that a 4 year consensual relationship turned to rape. He blamed jealousy on her part for the allegations and that certainly could be true given the age of them at the time. He certainly seems to be on the straight and narrow now and I don't see why someone shouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt (unless there's damning evidence to the contrary). I'll be honest, I didn't think I was looking at an NFL WR with Lewis. Maybe take a punt on him if he goes undrafted. I think Johnson made him look a better vertical threat than he is.

Please draft Reggie Ragland…

Now that we can agree on. -
Please draft Reggie Ragland…
Blokestradamus replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not denying that it's low, just trying to provide context as to why. It doesn't translate as weakness on the field if it's a true number either. I'm sorry if I came across as a condescending prick. -
Please draft Reggie Ragland…

Completely ignoring the fact that he's had a shoulder injury. I'm not a gym rat like yourself but I'd imagine your arms impact you lifting things. -
Please draft Reggie Ragland…

I actually LOVE that fit for Dodd. I'm more than a little sceptical about him playing SLB or 2-gapping at 5-Tech but he has the skill set to win quickly on the interior. Still think he's being horrendously overhyped so I'd probably disapprove taking him at 19 (or for the Bills in general). I don't see it so much for Shaq, he's almost my prototypical 4-man front LDE and I'd keep him there full time in sub packages. I'm with you on being enamoured with DJ Reader. I would love him at some point and I think he could evolve into a sub package player eventually. Won't ever win with speed but can already win with brute force and hand technique, just a case of that being refined. This draft has me so excited and torn a million different ways. I want a mock draft for my sig but I can't decide on anyone. -
Jaylon Smith - What round is he worth the risk?
Blokestradamus replied to K D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been convinced by others that if he's on the board when the Bills pick in the 4th round, take the shot. He's a good kid, I know football is his life and any failure in his recovery won't be for a lack of trying. -
Please draft Reggie Ragland…
Blokestradamus replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If we could get Sheldon Rankins, that would be the best pick since Dareus. Can play NT & 5-Tech in base, can play 3-Tech in sub packages. There's only a few interior DL that I think warrant a 1st round pick and not all of them are great fits for the Bills (I think getting a 3-Tech capable DL is paramount to replace Kyle long term and pair with Dareus). Chris Jones is the only other 1st round guy that I think offers any real meaningful pass rush from the 3T spot as a rookie. Don't get me wrong, I like A'Shawn, Jarran Reed, Andrew Billings (and wouldn't complain if any were taken at 19) but I think they're more 1-Tech guys than 3-Tech in sub packages, at least early on. I'm more open to Nkemdiche (despite rallying against him since last summer) and Jonathan Bullard later in the draft because I'm not sure this is a great DL draft in terms of pass rush. Guys like Dean Lowry (Northwestern) and Ronald Blair (Appalachian State) on Day 3 are other guys to keep an eye on.
