Right. Part of the Patriot’s strategy during their dynasty run was letting go of players with escalating salaries and declining impact, regardless of how much of a name they’d been in recent years. They were able to identify when a player had peaked and move on, rather than hope for more output. As a result they were often able to parlay their FA losses into compensation draft picks. They never got too emotionally attached to the point it became detrimental.
-
Not sure what that means. Other than Von Miller, they've pretty much relied on players they've developed through the draft and 'prove it deal' free agents. Stef was effectively a draft pick, though the salary is too high to really look at it in that light. Von was a gamble, with the Bills believing they were close and he could be the missing piece of the D-line that would pressure the QB. Most of us were excited at the time by that anticipated impact. Otherwise, there hasn't been a lot of money thrown at free agents. It would be nice if they could find ways to re-sign players they've developed who are just starting to hit their stride. e.g. Epenesa, Rousseau, etc

Have any of you been in this situation before??(vague title)

. You might have a heart to heart about the meaning of loyalty and how much more sweet it will be when the Bills finally win the Superbowl. Of course you could just go old school and threaten the child with 'Father Baker' or some other form of foster care/adoption. -
He can be good in coverage, but he also has a propensity for being grabby. I suspect the concern of untimely penalties may have been part of the thrust for keeping him on ice.

The Bills were effectively playing their game 3 preseason squad on defense against the defending champions. Milano, Bernard, Benford, and a healthy Rapp and Douglas could have made a significant difference. Add to that Gabe. Yes, he could have made a difference. Better than Sherfield anyway.

Anyone else more low-key about this loss than you thought you'd be?

Perspective. It's not life or death. It's entertainment. As much as we all hope for the elusive Lombardi each year, the reality is that since the league went to 32 teams in 2002, 21 teams have claimed that prize. Twenty-One! As much as we tend to measure success against teams like the Brady-led Patriots, the 80's 49'ers, and now the Chiefs, these dynasties are rare. Getting to the dance is rare. It's unknown territory for a handful of teams. Winning the Superbowl is every team's goal as OTAs begin. If my math is correct, 651 teams since 2002 have not reached that goal set at the beginning of the year. I don't know if the Bills will ever get there. At least they're competitive and have a chance. So much depends on the team's health through the long season. A few lucky (or unlucky) breaks, missed calls, etc can factor into getting there. Yes, we have to start all over, just like 31 other teams will have to. We have a team I expect will be entertaining as long as Josh Allen is our QB. Enjoy the ride, even if it's a little bumpy at times. Life goes on. -
It’s been stated on local radio, social media, and from there, word of mouth.

We have a legacy of class acts associated with the Bills like Marv, Sean, Bean, Ralph, Kyle, Josh and so many others. With contributions to multiple charities and unrivaled support, the Bills fan base is regarded as one of the best in all of pro sports. Why on earth do a few knuckleheads with the maturity of a 12-year-old want to tarnish that image by throwing sex toys on the field of play? Grow up. Represent our Bills community with some class.

What’s the return policy for the BFLO store? I just ordered my Haack jersey!

Fitzpatrick and Wood talking trash about Marrone

With that reputation, how was he not vetted by the Bills (and later The Jaguars) to be dismissed as a candidate? -
ok, call me 'boomer'. I have no idea what that's about. I've seen the Slime Time thing during games, but still don't have any idea what it is. I know it's associated with Nickelodeon somehow. Guessing it has something to do with the NFL introducing the league to kids. (?)

That guy has too much time on his hands. I'm not seeing anything that looks like an attempt to slide in most of those clips. Even in the 52 yard run last game, I didn't see it. What I saw appeared to be Josh considering his options in those split seconds. I believe there was very slight hesitation before he decided he could keep going. Nothing unusual there. When a running back makes the move they call it a juke.

The mentality of the 'fire McDermott' crowd is beyond stupid. I guess if a team doesn't win the Superbowl within 5 years or so, the head coach should be dismissed. Brilliant. Of course, there's never any real solution offered by those voices. Just "fire the coach". The NFL landscape is littered with fired coaches who were sure-fire candidates from the coordinator ranks. Who's your answer? What can't miss coach is coming to Buffalo? Are you such a gambler that you'll put all your chips on a coordinator with no track record over the guy who's led his team into the playoff in 6 out of 7 seasons? Maybe you'd prefer a retread like Belichick or Carroll. No thanks. Personally, I wouldn't make that bet. The better odds are that we'd be right back to the good old days of wishing we made the playoffs. Compare the past 7 years of Bills football to the previous 17. At least we've had a chance! We've had a very entertaining team we can be proud of. The Bills under McDermott have fielded a competitive squad every year under his guidance. They've developed mid-round players into valuable contributors. Free agents want to come to Buffalo. He has the respect of those who play under him. We have a team that should be competitive every year. I'm grateful that the revolving door of Jauron, Mularkey, Williams, Ryan, etc. is a distant memory. Be thankful that we have someone a classy as McDermott leading our Bills today and for the foreseeable future. You may not realize it yet, but these are the good old days

Bills release Fournette from the Practice Squad

Exactly. Most of the comments here indicate they aren’t aware of the PS move limitations. -
What's your confidence level going into the game today?
SoMAn replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
For the first time, 7th seed beat 2nd seed yesterday. It could happen again today. Confidence level is not high. Coming off a needed win last week and looking down the road to KC, I almost expect a letdown. I will love to be wrong. -
The 'leave of absence' line was nothing more than an extremely gracious way to part ways with a longtime and much respected coach and former player. Clearly, McDermott wanted to take charge of the defense. There was zero chance Frazier was coming back after a year. We have a classy coach who let the veteran leave with dignity.

Just move the game to Atlanta. There. Problem solved.,

Brady won Super Bowl without Belichick. Belichick never had success post-Brady. End of debate.

They go to meeting to lie? What a novel concept.

Leslie Fraizer Interviewing with Chargers
SoMAn replied to 17islongenough's topic in The Stadium Wall
The trend is recent years has been younger innovative coaches like Sean McVay, McDaniel, etc. It's not out of the ordinary any more to have coach that hasn't yet celebrated their 40th birthday. The days of hiring a coach from the era of goalposts in the back of the endzone that were shaped like an 'H' are over. There are too many available candidates that would be better choices than Frazier. -

No NFL team is going to hire a 65-year-old retread coach to rehabilitate their program. Gee, I thought Frazier was just taking the year off to rest. Isn’t his DC job with Buffalo still there? 😏 -
Yes. There were a couple of other games in which it looked more like quick throw, dink & dunk stuff. And it worked. But then it was abandoned. My belief is that Josh is always in 4th gear. A hurry-up, 2 minute style suits him. I’d like to see them use it more often. Obviously, it couldn’t be used throughout as it would wear down the rest of the offense, but it could be used more often to get opposing defenses on their heals
-
He's kind of right, but not entirely. One of the issues with the up and down win-loss roller coaster during Dorsey's final games was putting handcuffs and leg shackles on Josh. Josh has got to be Josh. He's not Kurt Warner. Yes, he has to be conventional and trust his receivers, but he's not a classic pocket passer and I doubt he ever will be.

This fan base, sometime, is very concerning
SoMAn replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I believe the only possible teams to come to Buffalo with a win are Houston, Cleveland, or KC. If the Bills and Dolphins win, fish go to Baltimore. It's a moot point. Miami won't win in those less than ideal conditions and with a banged up squad.
