  1. I don't think that's how you win the lottery.
  2. Really surprised so many people dislike teams like the Bills and Browns.
  3. We all have an obvious bias . . .
  4. You don't need an analytics department to tell you numbers suggest coaches should go for it more on 4th down. Coaches already know that and analysts are looking for things that aren't known. No ones hiring anyone to sit down and crunch 4th down numbers we've already crunched em. All this means is there will now be a guy in the room whose job it is to look at different numbers and have a numbers perspective.
  5. Seems like everyone is focused on game time decisions with regards to analytics, but this is almost certainly its least useful function at least for now. Obviously the more complex the system (22 guys on the field) the less useful measurable numbers will be, but there are lots of things that are much much simpler. If you look at things like cap management or position depth your dealing with areas that have always required some semblance of analytics, and don't have too many variables or nuances to consider. I think the next big step for analytics in the NFL will come from its use in college scouting.
  6. New coach and all, I think 9-7 would be a success. Especially if we aren't "given" any games at the end.
  7. There's definitely some weak position groups for depth but stuff like a bad OT can be compensated for by other position groups alot more easily than something like QB or RB or a DB, the only person who's worried most about OT is Taylor.
  8. That article seemed a little shocked that Preston and several others on the Bills were on the top of the leader board for stops given the struggles on D but that just makes for more opportunities, which is a little ironic when he begins the article talking about the need for better stats. The funny thing was he wasn't even really talking about stats as a statistical measure but was talking about data, the number of stops not any % or probability.
  9. We could just roll over the cap space. Who knows what the thinking is on all our big contracts.
  10. I think it's really hard to put a value on potential. The more contributions made the greater the risk of injury including the small stuff that slows you down. I don't think many would deny his potential of being the best in the league at his position.
  11. I just don't want to keep having to tell myself making game time decisions is probably a lot harder than it looks.
  12. the only good thing that can happen is winning . . .
  13. yeah but Brady didn't come in his first year and start . . .
  14. maybe there should be a post minimum for starting a thread
  15. realistically who do you want making football decisions our coach with a lot of nfl xp or our owner with none and a dubious history winning in sports.
  16. i'm happy they're giving him this much power, if it works great! if it blows up its better than going 7-9 another 5 years.
  17. yeah i voted keep him, but i agree now that you mention it.
  18. For me it was probably Rex year 1. The hire made me very nervous and then watching our offense look decent, finally having that avg QB that was going to put us over the top. Despite my aversion to Ryan, I still got suckered in . . . that was probably the worst part. And then there was that season opener!
  19. i do, boxes and boxes, and two players just in case one breaks. I'm not even that old, technically a millennial.
