Always better to move on sooner than later. I totally agree with you, but if he's gone, and it sure seems like he is, lets get something and move on with people who really want to be here. Looking at the contracts we've signed, we have a lot of people who are over the moon about playing out their careers here. Let's find more of them, no sense wasting out time.

He doesn’t have any leverage though. He’s making noise not in a contract year while he’s in a very good rb room on a very good team, with an amazing oline, playing a position you can cheaply replace. He has a good thing going, he plays in rotation, we’ve been keeping him fresh. We’re the ones with leverage. We can run him into the ground for three years with a couple tags for less than he wants.

Contracts are mostly about risk and replacement levels. rb and cb just get hurt/fall off too often and they're also the most nfl ready of the position groups out of college.

I mean, it is worth considering that mcbeane have a locker room philosophy that they believe can result in sustained success. I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise. Obviously that costs some amount of natural talent, but I would also say at the same time their focus is developing talent. We see a lot of high ceiling people brought in here including Josh. Also, the whole thing is silly. These guys are working with each other, and by all appearances are in lock step. Decisions are team decisions and we're just not in the room.

Even if it's as common as speeding I still agree with your original point. And just like speeding it's there for good reason and there are degrees to it. I think there's definitely conversations that go on that can be very close to tampering, and then there's just straight up offering a player terms.
