@GunnerBill what do you think of running 4 verticals out of 11 personnel? Brown foster jones Knox would be pretty good. I think you might even be able to get Beasley in on it. Would have to adjust when the hoodie goes to quarters but I think it could be pretty good. Now that I think of it 4 verticals could be work out of 12 personnel.

The way I see it happening is if Josh has no turnovers. Both defenses are great and can generate turnovers essentially making it a wash. However I think our offense might have more weapons than theirs. If we cut the costly mistakes I think we get the job done.

Agreed. Cover 1 was discussing how they think Brown can get the comeback against Gilmore too. I think they made a Bet on it during their podcast. Would be very happy to see Smoke get behind Gilmore a couple times.

Agreed. His processing seems to be speeding up. I honestly think he’s pretty smart as well as having a cannon, legs, and leadership. He got a 37 which was the highest in his class on the wonderlic. The josh Allen or josh Allen segment with Simms also showed some quick thinking. Can’t wait to see him progress this year.

Site limits are tough and I had to shrink that screen shot a lot to get. Still confused how you’re arguing it was almost picked off when the defender clearly didn’t put a hand up to defend the pass even. Of course the defense is gonna be trying to pull the ball out. Doesn’t mean they were threatening a pick. You’re relying on the announcers for your argument? Sheesh. I watched Knox’s route several times. Agree Knox came open on the play by there wasn’t enough time for Allen. When he’s getting hit Knox hasn’t cleared the first level of defense. I really don’t see this as a risky play. Also if you think he barely got it to Beasley why do you think a ball that has to travel farther to Knox wouldn’t get picked? Overall this was a very similar game to the rest of 2019. Allen has some plays he wants back but more good. Are you watching the cover 1 film breakdown? Feel like you are nitpicking a good play.

Think it was during the NYG game. He had a red non contact jersey on all last week for his neck.

I like the idea of 2 TE sets but I think its Kroft. Hell everyone is talking about not showing all our plays; do we think they might not have shown all their players? I do wish he had played the bengals game though so the chemistry could start building.

Rational Thoughts 24 Hours-ish Later (Bengals)

I think the jet sweeps are entirely because Singeltary was out and they didnt want to rely solely on Yeldon to replace those touches. While it will continue to be used ~2 times a game I dont think we see as many as we did this week. -
I actually don't really see it as the defense setting it up for "no where else to go" because there is a break down in the OL so that the blitz isnt picked up. This causes the "no where else to go" rather that it being set up. Thus, the secondary is definitely not expecting the situation as the stem of the Knox route is initially being guarded and they aren't pouncing on Beasley's route. No defender was close to making a play on the ball as no one even tried for a deflection. I thought that was a great example of a hot read by Allen which is something he has struggled with. On the Knox route, I think youre being ridiculous. Knox has not cleared the first level of defender by the time Allen is winding up (again why the throw to Beasley ends up being open). If he just throws it to a spot, the defenders (1st and 2nd level probably) would probably beat Knox to the spot. Should he throw the corner to Knox if he has more time? Hell Yes! Did he throw a corner to Knox on the very next play? Hell Yes! This play was a break down in OL play that Allen read and got yards out of with out danger imo. Confused why all the noise on a good play. Edit: It was not the next play but the next possession that he hit Knox. This was the series before. I don't think it changes my conclusions on this play being a smart play to get yards on a break down.

The running is the tricky thing cause passer rating doesnt account for it. Also garbage time might be inflating some of those numbers for other QBs. Lastly, football is a situational game and you really need situational statistics. There are only a couple things that transcend the situational part of the game (toxic differential being a big one).

???? I don't think the player can get there any earlier cause that throw went as soon as possible (he didnt even try to get a deflection). The LB came in on JA basically untouched so the whole play was was very bang bang. Dawson Knox was not open until the ball was thrown. The defender that is the closest to Beasley is coming from out of the picture in hte broadcast view and is effectively covering Knox as he goes vertical before his break. That was a great play to get some yards when your OL lets you down and I don't think there could be anywhere else you could go with the ball (watch the replay from behind). This completion also set up the 2nd & 4, I believe, for the toss to Knox to get in the red zone. Not sure Knox is as open on 2nd & 10.

Josh Allen - week THREE report card
YattaOkasan replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Week 1 B- Week 2 B+ Week 3 B- been very consistent honestly. Overall more pressure then I liked today (party josh holding the ball). Off the pressure I think teams are keying on his roll outs to his right. He has the two intentional groundings and pick that way (also several great plays too). Still lot of miscues from the offense that are leaving points on the board. I think they get it sorted (probably not by next week) and that will be a great day. Biggest worry still has to be how this offense handles blitzes from the defense. Still having some struggles. Either way great win and another 4 quarter drive from Allen to take the lead (more than TT ever had I think). -
Fairburn: Singletary officially out this week
YattaOkasan replied to DCOrange's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorta been waiting for this news. I think they knew and may even have the game plan around Yeldon. Think hes a super tough match up for their LBs (more than Gore). I expect Yeldon to get the most snaps (like I believe Singletary was doing even if he wasnt carrying the rock as much). -
My one peeve from the Giants game
YattaOkasan replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Feel like you dont know what come back means. We really had control of this game throughout. It was only about half a drive in which I had any worries. Game was over as soon as Allen hit Brown to go into field goal position. -
Couple of things here to nitpick at. I agree small sample size but when did the Jets become a bad defense? Also your small sample size is killing his AY/A because of flukey interceptions (they get -45) not because of short passes his (Y/A is 7.6 which is 15th). Wanna see short passes? Darnold and Trubisky both have Y/A below 5.0!!!!

Bills at Giants Pre-Game thread
YattaOkasan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is still plenty of opportunity for injuries in a touchback. The touch back doesn’t happen til near the end. All the kick returners can’t tell what’s happening. They have to play like it’s live even on a touchback. Kickoffs are stupid. 4th and 15 at the 35 instead please. -
Some football thoughts. Start on D. Simple game plan. Contain Barkley in the run game. In the pass game give safety help for him and engram. Giants will probably get there’s but not a ton. Putting it at 17 points allowed. This is will be the theme of the year. Can the bills offense take advantage of the defenses good work. Game plan will always be more complicated on this side. Gonna see some similar things from Daboll this week as giants have good enough run defense but bad pass rush. We will run a bit more cause the run defense isn’t as good as the Jets. In the pass game I think we’re gonna get more vertical. Giants safety are not as good as Adams and maye. Also weaker pass rush allows for deeper routes. This has me thinking a bit more foster than Zay in this game (more Zay makes sense last game). Ultimately i I think the offense will take advantage and score like 24 points. Flame away on my thoughts.

First Half wasn't as awful as everyone is saying
YattaOkasan replied to mjt328's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I actually think it was pretty important to the defense that the offense could move the ball before the turnovers happened. Because we got first downs on a lot of the drives (only 1 3 and out) we were able to not give up terrible field position (only one NYJ drive started in Bills territory) and the defense actually got to rest a little. I remain cautiously optimistic this offense could be good. Obviously this defense is good borderline great. -
PFF really hates Josh Allen

These guys said we would take a CB (Byron Murphy) with Ed Oliver on the board in the draft. I don't think they quite understand this team yet. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - Winning the Fourth Quarter
YattaOkasan replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think a low throw to beasley makes sense. Low throw is more likely to be caught or just hit the ground. The popping up of it was totally goofiness. I have it as a 10% allen (more for speed than placement) 30% Beasley and 60% bad luck play. -
Josh Allen - week one report card
YattaOkasan replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He also took the lead during the 4th quarter in the jets game last year even though he threw the game ending interception the next time he was on the field. He’s definitely a serious competitor. -
Truly New Period For Bills With Shady Gone
YattaOkasan replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course you wouldn’t t because the second situation would only give you 2 to -3 yards rushing total. More relevant question would you take 5 carries losing 4 or 5 and then a 40 yard run? That would be the 3 yards per carry from above. Either way shady was good and a huge reason we broke the drought. In the clubhouse he seemed like a great competitor and off the field he did silly things like spoil the avengers.
