Sean McDermott OTAs press conference 5/25
YattaOkasan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thats the pre-June 1 number. So yes if we cut him today it would cost money. I just used the post June 1 number cause of the date. Good catch. -
I thought we were hunted last year. Most were picking us to win the division before the season. Once the season started we lead the division wire to wire so they were hunting us when it got to the second time we played them. So while its even more apparent this year, I think this team is more than ready to handle being the hunted.

Short answer (see what i did there) it doesnt help much. Star saves 500k post June 1. Its not happening. -

Clearly you have not looked at their contracts. The $2 mill saved from cutting both of them post June 1 will not be enough to get anyone. -
Sorry for delay in reply. Brown is def good but I dont think anyone (including Chiefs) knows what Niang will be. He could be good and that will solve a lot of their problems but its hoping for a 3rd round rookie to be a starter at this point. Long and Thuney do not particularly scare me at Tackle (Thuney does at guard though) so I don't consider them to be better depth than Bates at this point. I agree they did a lot on the line this year. Im just not as sold on the overall strategy as the media is. Long term they did little to address the concerns in the positional grouping (only Niang, Thuney, Humphrey, Allegretti, +2 others under contract for 2022). Since the Mahomes money will start hitting the cap next yaer, they might have trouble repeating what they did this year. Brown would be great to re-sign but spotrac has them only with 6.3 million dollars in cap for 2022 so they will be hard pressed to run the same plan back. On what I would have done. I would not have traded for Brown. Thats a sugar high to me. I would have used that asset to draft Teven Jenkins, Landon Dickerson, or Liam Eichenberg (less sold on him); I will admit I do get some benefit of hindsight here. Still draft Humphries for interior and then probably not draft DE at the end of round 4 but draft another developmental tackle like Tommy Doyle. So I would not have drafted a LB and a DE and gotten a cost controlled starting tackle for a couple years in Jenkins and a developmental Tackle while securing the positional group long term. I am also not as sure I would have paid Thuney. I would have tried to get 90% of him at 50% the cost. Impossible to say what UFA were available to them but I wouldve used that money on multiple opportunities (thinking Zeitler, Lamp, Lane Taylor, or Trai Turner) at filling that hole for cheaper. This would let me be able to spend next year if there is a UFA that I like. They are gonna start paying Mahomes a lot of money. The OL play could derail their whole plan if its poor and he gets hurt (he tries to keep plays a live like Josh). Moves like Brown and Thuney to some degree seem like they havent realized that Mahomes contract (while fair) needs to be worked around in the future. They will be hard pressed to bring in UFAs for a year to sort out their OL next year.

Thanks for the replies. So I can get on board with a lot of the talent over continuity discussion. any thoughts on the second two items for KC OL? They are again not very deep at OT, and they might have to pull some UFA magic again next year to get another good line. Long term I think it’s risky to not invest much more to the line when you are paying Mahomes so much.

KC has done a great job of turning around their line this year, but I'm not sure were talking about how/if continuity will affect them. I saw some chatter that it didnt help us, but Ive also heard a lot of chatter that OL is the room that benefits the most from continuity. KC will only be returning one starter from last years line it appears (maybe 2 with Allegretti). If continuity is something real this line may take a minute to perform up to their expectations. While I think they have a slight edge on us in terms of starter quality, they are perilously thin at Tackle. They are one injury away from starting Niang (effectively a rookie) or Rankin (was not called on for SB when down 2 Tackles). Any injury will exacerbate any continuity issues. Lastly, they will need to repeat this process again next year as they only have the following players under contract: Thuney, Humphrey, Allegretti, Niang. So while they could re-sign Brown; there is a strong chance they will continue to have continuity problems again next year. Even though KC did some great work they have a long ways to go for OL to become stable, and I feel more comfortable with Beanes approach to the draft this year. Flame away if you think this is a hot take.

Bills working out DT Eli Ankou (update: signed)
YattaOkasan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Was worse last year. Some teams wasted money on contracts for UDFAs that they ended up not being allowed to bring to camp. It’s not a Beane thing. It’s an NFL thing. -
Bleacher Report Offense Power Rankings
YattaOkasan replied to FlaFitz1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for the discussion. I would say I expect steelers to decline some while I'm not sure any of the other teams jump up too much (Falcons, Panthers, Dolphins, Colts, WFT could all be top half but unlikely to be top 10). Similarly on the away games I see the Saints and Titans to take steps back. In the Titans case I anticipate it to be a big step back (maybe bottom half of league). I think we should be fine this year considering how much weaker our opponents appear. For the run game I do think getting our OL working together should address a lot of the problems. Its not like we didnt have some success running last year (ending the game against the steelers for example). Like a lot of things it needs to be more consistent. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
YattaOkasan replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
also had release the deer. -
I don’t understand Tommy Sweeney get projected to the roster so much. He played in 6 games 2 years ago and has a heart condition. I think all the rookies have more upside over him at this point in his career. Agree with other posters that keeping Taiwan jones off this roster would be great. Hoping damar can do that job. his open field tackles in college were nice.

No CB in Draft? — No Problem or No, Problem?
YattaOkasan replied to RJ (not THAT RJ)'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No Problem still plenty of good players to compete with Levi and provide depth. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/all/cornerback/available/ -
I think Groot might be a day 1 starter. Let Hughes and Addison come in on high leverage passing downs.

LOL that Brieda is JAG. He had the fastest recorded speed in the NFL in 2018 and 2019. He might be the fastest guy in the league with pads on (I dont quite think this is true) let alone at the position.

Didn’t catch all of the thread but to the OP. Don’t trade up round one when there are so few players in the class. The part of the draft that gets most affected is the quality at the end of the draft. The top 100 is still comparable to most other years (because the money is still as good). Trading down at 30 gives you less top 100. Would love to move back up to the 4th from these later rounds to avoid the lack of good players at the bottom of the draft.

McShay- Bills trying to move up above 23 for Etienne

My thoughts. I don’t want a Rb in round 1. I really don’t want to trade up for a rb in round 1. above all else trust the FO -
Potential Hint to Draft Priorities?
YattaOkasan replied to glazeduck's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would also argue a 2nd round iOL could start by taking Felciano or Ford's spot. Edge in the first round could also "start" by which I mean get the most snaps. -
Trading up i would be pissed. However, while hes not my favorite (that would be Azeez please) I would be ok. As for sacks, someone tell me how this is different than danielle hunter who only had 4.5 sacks in 2 years at LSU (1.5 his last year)? I understand hunter was a 3rd round pick but I thought we all realized sacks werent indicative of impact. Below video shows them with similar physical gifts (discounted some with pro days) EDIT: Big 10 handled the season silly and he didnt get to play any non-conference games which probably would have resulted in him getting some sacks.

The end of excuses for defensive draft picks
YattaOkasan replied to Playoff Win's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would say Taron, Teller, singeltary, and Davis were all hits. Ed is also very close. Beane likes to take high ceiling players in the first. It’s probably more surprising Josh peaked so quickly rather than others haven’t. Happy to give the 1st round picks more time to develop. -
Cool site. Aligns with what I see in other places. Barring a strange drop from someone else Asante Samuel or Jayson Oweh seem most likely.
