  1. Think they are talking about fumble recovery which is random by my understanding. Don’t know that anyone has metrics on recovering fumbles relative to opportunities. But which team gets it is pretty much 50/50
  2. Chips in balls. They can put them in our vaccines (joke).
  3. Certainly got some things to work on. Again I have no clue on his valuation but the point I want to make is that he’s doing things well that are not obvious to us fans. This sorta doesn’t make sense. If you don’t pick up his 5th year you have to make a decision about his future after this year. By picking his 5th year up you get an extra year to evaluate. You don’t pick up the 5th year if you’ve seen enough and you don’t want to re-sign (sounds like where you are at). Some do re-sign but I think the majority don’t. Beane did NOT make any long term decisions about his future. He just gave himself more time to evaluate. the draft is super unlikely to give you similar performance and I also think a UFA would be pretty pricey (12 mil probably) for a top 10 mlb. I just don’t see them moving on from a three year captain, 2x pro bowler, ranked in top 10 at position by peers when they could get an extra year of team control. in conclusion yes it’s pretty crazy to call picking up the 5th year a mistake. It’s probably the least crazy thing on my list but sounds like you believe some of the other items on my list.
  4. That recovery is after a missed tackle so.... (also its a recovery not a forced fumble) There is so much confirmation bias in this thread its crazy. I have no idea how the front office will value Edmunds when it comes to a new contract, but talk about a mistake to pick up his 5th, he makes the defense worse, he can't play football, we would much better without him are all just not based in the real world.
  5. I think McBeane care. To point number 2 Poyer and Hyde are both getting long in the tooth. The defense may have other leaders, but Edmunds has worn the C longer than any other on that side of the ball.
  6. Knew Marino was gonna be pretty happy (also mentioned in his podcast). Joe was pumping him all offseason and took his lumps during the preseason/TC. So far (knock on wood), Knox has become much more consistent which makes him very dangerous considering some of the things he can do that others cant.
  7. Oddly I havent heard coaches talk about Milano as much. I actually find that genuinely odd cause he fills the stat sheet more. Additionally, coaches/players generally rank Edmunds over Milano. I dont know why but it seems pretty consistent. Its another piece of evidence to say hes doing something we as fans can't see. Define much better. How do you think itll change these current numbers 12 points per game, 250 yards per game, 178 pass yards per game, 14 first downs per game, 2 Turn overs per game. I would like to know how you get MUCH better from those numbers.
  8. I missed that on his first post. But yeah 2018 and 2019 we were the best against TE from a fantasy perspective so yup even more silliness.
  9. If this season so far is what it looks like when they run and pass at him, then I will happily accept a top 5 defense, and I’ll see you in February now that josh is back.
  10. I feel like you don’t realize you’re saying that the mike on a top 5 defense is a liability to the point that he just can’t play football. God bless you but that’s a white hot take.
  11. Can def respect a lot of this. I do think he’s more that just a solid football player. I think he’s been good but in a way that’s hard to see (setting defense, coverage down field). I would def agree there are things I would like to see more of too (like the Wiggins comparison). Appreciate your thoughts
  12. Haha what. Why is it clear? No doubt? If I have no doubt its that beane will multiple ways to go in the draft so there will definitely be doubt about replacement (should’ve said UFA signing and draft pick). Who are you putting in for his reduced snaps. Klein? 🤮
  13. I really don’t have a good idea (see my comment about not knowing his valuation) since most of his best work happens downfield away from the broadcast view. Certainly players and media thought he was more than 5th last year as he was one of two to make the pro bowl (not a perfect measure of rank I know but says something). I do know he’s not the worst player on the field, like playing with 10, or a mistake to pick up his option. I think we drafted him to be QB of the defense and get us in the right call. He seems to be doing that.
  14. You think the score was on him? He was playing TE deep again. He missed a tackle but so did many folks. also captain means a lot to McDermott. Again your BBFS is making you think of The drought years (like rex). It’s a pretty big deal for this crew.
  15. So you didn’t watch the game. dudes been a captain for 3 straight years. Y’all act like you know more than McBeane (literally the thread title). You’ve been scarred by BBFS. On good teams not every player shows up in the stat sheet. Are we still whipping on Star. He doesn’t fill the stat sheet but defense looks pretty good with him in there. I have no clue what his valuation is but I expect he gets re-signed.
  16. I can see your point but if the DL doesn’t rush with contain in mind it is on them. I blame the DL for how Murray and tannehill tore us up last year.
  17. Jackson got destroyed by AJ in whatever bowl game they faced off in. After the draft I realized the dolphins got Jackson and watched that game some more. edit video But i don’t share their thoughts on jackson
  18. I dont know that teams use PFFs for their grades. There are advanced stats that are very helpful such as splits for under pressure, blitzed, personnel groupings. This can be very valuable to outsource to PFF rather than try to track it yourself.
  19. Third year captain so no....
  20. More likely that KC game is the difference between a 1 and 2 seed. We needed to beat them almost certainly, but I agree they are not holding things back.
  21. Still caused me to recheck my data set, and there was one I missed. 8/2 would fall within random variability. My question at this point is about the recovery rate for offense. Does that mean they jump on the ball or does it include the OBs. Singeltary does have 1 FR (I believe for his own fumble). If its the former (offense jumps on the ball) Singeltary has been unlucky in recoveries. On average, the fumbling team recovered (or the ball went out of bounds, so the fumbling team retained possession) 53.5% of all fumbles in 2019. http://www.footballperspective.com/tag/fumbles/ Appears its the former so Singeltary is lucky @Buffalo716. Though 3 more fumbles without a FL would push back towards non random space.
  22. Thanks. That would def make him not being doing anything different than normal. And more likely hes just lucky. Not sure how I missed as I was compiling data (cause his splits are still 8/2).
  23. At this point (again small sample size), the data does not support that its random for him. Not how it works. If I flip a coin 100 times in row as heads. Does that make it more likely that my next flip is tails? Offensive recovery is slightly greater than 50/50 (54%) on average. This may increase the probability enough to be greater than 0.05 which would make it not necessarily statistically significant.
