I know I brought this issue up a few times during the offseason/preseason and most seemed to downplay the concern fairly aggressively. The problem here is that you can dismiss the concern and say he's worth the penalties and you may be right, for now. However, he's clearly a flag magnet. It seems plausible, if not likely, that one of these ill-timed personal fouls will directly cost us a game. This question really can't be answered until the season is over. My opinion is that Hughes is a game-changer. The hope is that when it really matters, in weeks 14-17, will his play lead us to a win, or will his reputation and behavior on the field somehow cost us a playoff birth? The reputation part is probably the worst thing. That one on Tannehill yesterday was about as dumb as it gets, and he'll never get the benefit of the doubt on a close call doing things like that.

I don't normally let the announcers bother me, but Wilcots was horrible today. It seemed like he was extremely pro-Miami all game, and far off base in several of his remarks during replays. Am I imagining things?

Right on. I don't want to take anything at all away from Taylor but this is a legitimate concern. Being "new", with Greg Roman, and having so many skilled guys to feed the ball to is propping him up big-time. Roman's approach to the game, especially the ground game, along with his experiences with Kaep, Alex Smith and now Tyrod may be unprecedented in the NFL. I feel like Roman is much better equipped than previous regimes at staying a step ahead on adjustments. I feel like his influence could be strong enough to make Tyrod want to follow him actually. Our success offensively could be 75% Roman. I think any of the QBs in the race could have good numbers at this stage. I love Tyrod so far, and that's fine with me if it's as much or more Roman and supporting cast as it is Tyrod. That all said, most of his throws have been on the money and when he misses, it's always the right way to miss. He keeps it nice and low over the middle. Time will tell with Tyrod. I already know Roman is the man.

This is a quality take, and one I tend to agree with. He's a "character". Characters matter. I'm not talking about him being "a character guy", I'm talking about him being a character. Guys like Dixon go a long way to help a team gel, and probably help get through tough spots during the year. This opinion is based solely on what I have heard about him over the last year or two. I have no personal experience with the man. I get the idea he generates lots of laughs and I think that's really important in any work/team setting.

Not sure about this logic. A tie is better than a loss, so this potentially could give both teams a better chance in a tiebreaker race. There's no loser. This is in place of one of the teams gaining the full benefit of a win. They actually split the credit and it's possible that hurts us worse. I'm too tired to write an example scenario, but plenty of them do exist. It would interesting to really dissect it statistically. It clearly depends how each of those teams finish out record-wise, but that would be a given in the statistical analysis.

Great responses so far folks. I wasn't really worried about him. I just haven't been watching many individuals out there and was wondering what he was up to so far. I feel like this week could be big for him. A couple sacks and a forced fumble perhaps. Maybe even a pick. Is there anyone outside of Manning/OBJ to be concerned about? How's their offensive line? This game makes me kind of nervous for some reason. I guess they all do.

How is he playing so far this year? Who's he likely to face against the Giants? Breakout game potential? I just haven't been paying that much attention to him. I realize defenders can "quietly" play very well and maybe that's the case here. I think we really need him at his best to make the playoffs, especially in the later stages of the season. Thoughts?

Billsy is such a great term. I'm not 100% sure it applies that well in this example however. Billsy would be finding a way to lose, not finding a way to hang on. Seriously, when you boil it down, Billsy is all about losing. Billsy would be having come all the way back, taking the lead, and then losing anyways. For example, the Oilers managed to lose the lead in the comeback game, but then tied it up to force OT.......but still lost. That's Billsy. It may actually be disrespectful to the term to refer to a winning effort as Billsy. (I'm confident you know all this based on your post. I realize you are not saying their giving up the huge lead is actually Billsy, merely that others may suggest that).

I sort of see it as Rex/Thurman taking a risk by calling the game this way. I expected some of this approach, but with a bit more exotic pressure. I thought Robey had a real chance to shine in coverage and blitzing. The pace of the offense and formations were working for NE, and Brady is nearly impossible to stop when he's on. Rex deserves some heat here. He was out-coached. If he dialed up a lot of pressure and Brady had torched them anyways, what would the review be on that? I think less scathing. Thus, it was riskier to play it conservatively. The lack of timely adjustments is concerning. The intensity with which NE was studying the pictures on the sideline was noticeable to me.
