We have a LOT of backup veterans under contract and that should supply the depth that you can get by drafting a lot of late 3rd round and later picks. We should maximize the picks we have in the first 50 and 100 players. Trade back from the 1st round #30 (it has some extra value because of the 5th year option on 1st round picks0, and UP from the late 2nd and 3rd round picks, using the two 5th and 1st round pick. It might get us three picks in the 35 to 70 range. (#35, #40, #60? type picks?).

I think that there will always be such guys in the draft or moreso, proven veteran WR available as FA. I would rather take flyers on other positions for low odd/high ceiling types.

Do the Bills have "their guy" picked out?
maryland-bills-fan replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills have covered their holes for this next season with free agents. Remember that they got to the AFL finals last year, have lost nobody essential AND have picked up improvements in the second team players. Many people feel that there are three early draft day groupings. The top roughly 15 players, the 16-50 players (top 50) taken and then the late 2nd round and the 3rd round players. .. .. PLAN A With pick #30 (620) and #61 (292) the Bills could (by PFM) trade those two picks for two picks in roughly the top third of the second round , #13th & #14th= overall #44 and #45 (~456 points each). .... That would give them two players in that second tier. .. ... ... They would draft for high ceiling and low floor and would hope they would get adequate substitute players for this year and better than average players in the future. Walter Football has the following players ranking in that area (although several of these players will definately go much higher) 36. Kenny Gainwell, RB, Memphis. Previously: 36 Avg. 23.7 per 31 37. Joe Tryon, DE, Washington. Previously: 37 Avg. 35.2 per 31 38. Trey Smith, G, Tennessee. Previously: 38 Avg. 36.8 per 31 39. Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan. Previously: 39 Avg. 23.6 per 21 40. Dayo Odeyingbo, DE, Vanderbilt. Previously: 40 Avg. 46.4 per 7 41. Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern. Previously: 41 Avg. 54 per 7 42. Jay Tufele, DT, USC. Previously: 42 Avg. 42 per 31 43. Jayson Oweh, OLB, Penn State. Previously: 68 Avg. 64.4 per 7 44. Levi Onwuzurike, DT, Washington. Previously: 44 Avg. 44 per 9 45. Pat Freiermuth, TE, Penn State. Previously: 45 Avg. 45 per 31 46. Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue. Previously: 46 Avg. 46 per 31 47. Marques Stevenson, WR, Houston. Previously: 47 Avg. 40.4 per 31 48. Rashod Bateman, WR, Minnesota. Previously: 48 Avg. 48 per 31 49. Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama. Previously: 49 Avg. 49 per 11 50. Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina. Previously: 50 Avg. 59.1 per 7 PLAN B The next Bill''s pick is #93, which is almost a 4th round pick. An alternate strategy would be to stay at #30 (take a possible starting rookie CB?) and trade the #93 3rd round pick AND the #61 2nd round pick to move up those to #48 overall, which is #16 in the second round. Either of these strategies could give the Bills one of the top 5 centers or guards Or a high ceiling DE OR an improved running back. -
Breida, whose star has dimmed considerably since his promising 2018, gives the Bills an experienced option for their No. 3 spot. T.J. Yeldon was allowed to walk in free agency. Breida had a disappointing 2020 in Miami, managing just 68 touches for a backfield that was in dire need of healthy runners. Breida simply didn't impress the coaching staff. Breida will be regarded as a product of Kyle Shanahan's running back-friendly system until he proves otherwise. 2021 will be his age-26 campaign. He is not going to push Devin Singletary or Zack Moss for work. https://www.nbcsports.com/edge/football/nfl/player/11877/matt-breida He brings speed to the Bills’ backfield. The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds coming out of Georgia Southern University in 2017. He played his first three seasons with San Francisco........................ https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/bills-add-depth-at-running-back-with-ex-dolphin-matt-breida/article_aa71ae4e-8da8-11eb-b1dd-0ff7c6b486a3.html

My strategy? ....... Trade down from #30 and up from #61 to get two players in the top 50. With these get a fast and pass catching RB and a CB. Trade the 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick for a high 2nd round pick for next year. It is expected to be a better draft and would give us another draft with 2 picks in the35-50 range. We would also use our 5.6.7 round picks this year for camp bodies or high ceiling players.

After they look at him in preseason, they could redo his contract and extend it. -
Trade out of 30 for 2022 1st?
maryland-bills-fan replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Usually the value of picks are in several buckets. 1-15,, 16-50, & 51-96. Trading a #30 to get a 1-15 and a 51-96 is okay -
Bills run game in 2021
maryland-bills-fan replied to VirginiaMike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Since we pass so much, the few times we run the ball should mean we catch the defence in a pass-protect formation. ... That didn't happen. The reason is that our running backs were too slow to take advantage of all the space that was there for the taking. Having Slingletary plod up the the line of scrimmage and then plod further on to get tackled in the open field,,, that does not work. We need a RB with some speed and open field ability. -
Things are simple. We draft at the end of each round. We have resigned a number of our players and will pick up decent stopgap players from cuts from other teams. The best players are in the top 15 (with no guarentees) and the top 50. We need difference makers at running back and defensive end. The plan is to use the picks in the first 3 rounds to get these two players. There are 3 very good running backs, who might be in our window. The very top DE's will go in the top 2/3 of the first round and we can not get there. So we play with our draft picks and do something like this. (Details may vary slightly). pick 30============520 draft points pick 62============284 draft points pick 94============124 draft points Start with 1-30 (round 1, pick30) and 2-32 to get picks 2-6 (#38 overall) and 2-30 (#52 overall) Add in pick94 to upgrade the 2-30 (#52) to 2-20 (#42 overall). With these picks we draft {{{RB Gainwell (Mephis) or Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina}}} ). https://walterfootball.com/scoutingreport2021kgainwell.php https://walterfootball.com/draft2021RB.php https://walterfootball.com/draft2021DE.php If Harris is still there at #30, I would reconsider.

Cover 1: AJ Epenesa Rookie year transformation
maryland-bills-fan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ford and Epenesa have one thing in common. Many draftniks thought they were 1st round players. Both of them were passed over in the first round and got drafted after many other players at their position were drafted. Neither have been knoci-out great and we are being hopeful rather than wowed. Was there too much "bargin hunting" and not enough honest accessment? -

Kylin Hill RB prospect

Sorry to disagree. Any year in the last years, one of the top 5 RB's would be a massive upgrade over what we have. -
The one free agent i want us to get: Okwara
maryland-bills-fan replied to offyourocker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the Lions have been drafting high for a number of years and their first pick has been in the goodie locker ~15 and the second round pick has been HIGH in the top 50 (which is about the limit where you have a high expectation that the pick is a NFK player). The quality of the players may not be the problem in Detroit. "Discards" from there may have a lot of potential that they wasted. Just an idea. -
2 round line draft
maryland-bills-fan replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Linebacker or RB in round 1. Or a trade down from 30 and a trade up from 54 to get two players in the early 2nd round. -
Heh? Most of the time "mid rounds" are 4&5, sometimes 3rd. That is where these guys were from. ?
