I do not think that a big, space-eating defensive tackle has to be the biggest concern. There are a lot of 310+ pound guys around and we can upgrade from butler from the waiver wire, a minor trade and from the 2nd or 3rd round in next year's draft. CB and TE are next years high draft choice targets. We will be picking in the 30,31,32 slot and should be able to get a starter at those positions in the first and second rounds.

Kumerow and the WR Glut
maryland-bills-fan replied to Ray Stonada's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
One thing that I have not seen talked about is this. If your offense uses a certain type of player or position a lot, well then you need more players at that position. The reason is that you want to have some variation in the strenths of the players, you want to have fresh legs to come in during a game and over the season AND you want to be able to replace players who are injured or need time to recover from a minor ding. .... ... Yes this is obvious. ... ... Remember last year we ended the season with 3 gimpy WR and were out of the playoffs. ... .... ... We play a lot of 3 and 4 wides (early season article " Through four games, the Buffalo Bills have used a spread formation with either three or four wide receivers on 92.5% of their snaps, according to News charts. That’s tops in the NFL. The breakdown is 69.6% using three wides (or 11 personnel) and 22.9% using four wides (or 10 personnel)." https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/how-often-are-bills-using-three-or-four-wide-receivers-more-than-any-other-team/article_1522e198-09ad-11eb-bf9d-cf4ebecbaaa0.html ....Another source for the season has us using 15% 4 WR,,,,,,,,,,71% 3 WR,,,,,,,, and 9% 2 WR...,,, .... .... https://www.sharpfootballstats.com/personnel-grouping-frequency.html 86% of the time we have at least 3 wide recievers on the field. ... Going 6 WR on the roster just gives one backup for each position and there is a difference between a deep threat guy and a slot receiver. ......... ................. 7 WR is NOT excessive for a game day or for being stocked for the long season. -
Folks Think about this. Think about a MLB pitcher. The art is to throw a lot of "surprises". A couple of fast balls at 97 and then a change up at 85. Pitch fast, going up the ladder (each pitch higher than the last) until the batter triggers on a fastball up high, out of the zone. .. A key is getting the defense (batter) to expect a progression to go one way and then slipping in something that they are NOT prepared for and to catch them getting into a routine of defending what you have just done successfully against. Running a few plays with slower and shifty Moss/Singletary gets the defenses into a grouve as to how to defend. The we sub in super fast guy, and he runs and upsets all the blocking and tackling angles they are used to. He gets away and the defending players are 5 yards off of the spot to stop him. You got to have these change of pace guys to change your attack with. If the guy can catch passes, you can have him run a circle or go route against a LB and good things happen. Causing confusion and forcing the defense to defend against a variety of different "pitches" is a good thing. We have used McKanie as such with a lot of success.

Kumerow and the WR Glut
maryland-bills-fan replied to Ray Stonada's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think we should keep Kumerow. None of the posters who are saying to unload him have every played quarterback in the NFL. The Green Bay Packers are a top 10 or top 5 team in the NFL. Their QB likes Kumerow and calls him the 2nd best WR on his team. Somehow I will favor his evaluation more. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/05/05/aaron-rodgers-remains-upset-the-packers-cut-jake-kumerow/ -
I don;t know. They could be playing them because: [1] He is on the bubble and they want more tape and experience [2] He is on the bubble or will be squeezed out by younger players and the are giving trade partners some game tape and health report on him [3] He is cannon fodder and the roster spots are filled and they are not risking injuries. ]4\ He is cannon fodder but might catch on with another team with that exposure. Player's agents will take note of that and encourage free agents to accept try-outs with Buffalo to have a better chance of catching on somewhere. [5] He looks cute in shorts to one of the staff.

what is your guarantee? I think a trade is more likely. It is time to start watching other teams weakneses and who who like an upgrade from Addison, Butler or Hudges. MAybe all 3 Boogie played last year and is a more complete player than Rousseau is now. I agree that Addison should be swamped for a draft pick. Perhaps he might return a late 3rd or early 4th round pick (pick85-110). That would be a great trade chip for us to move up in the 2nd or 3rd round. We could look at the $$ paid to him this year as an investment on that traded draft pick.

We need to cut 5 players. Who are they?

Another reason is that they need a couple of QB to run the training camp drills. -

Preseason Trade Predictions
maryland-bills-fan replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't it nice to be talking about having to trade players who we would really like to be getting a lot of playing time,,,just because we have so much depth and beter players. .... Rather than hoping we can pick up a well hidden decent player from other team's cut downs !!!!! A 3rd or 4th? Goodie Goodie I like blackmail -
Interior OL Battle
maryland-bills-fan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have a lot of people who can start in the NFL- actually more starters & borderline starters than roster spots. Don't get your shorts tied up in knots about it, because it is a good thing. When we get down to full equipment/contact training camp, we will get the comparisons between the different players and keep the best ones. If the apparent starter or backup is hurt in preseason and out for part or all of the year, we have another good player to immediately plug in without much loss in quality. If everyone is healthy, we can trade our almost-roster-players for 4th to 7th round draft picks for next year. A better place to be than trading our future draft picks for replacement players !!! As people have pointed out, the 3 2020 OL draft picks are not meant to be starters= at best they might be the 2nd swing tackle or guard. We drafted big athletic guys and they are for a 2-3 season development project. -
Just wondering if the Bills are changing their profile for what their future defensive ends are going to look like. The OLD GUARD ...Addison....6-3.....260 pounds ...Hughes....6-2.....254 pounds the NEW WAVE ...Espenesa....6-6....260 pounds ...Obada.........6-6....265 pounds ...Rosseau......6-6....266 pounds the young kick-inside on passing downs interior penetrating DE/DT ...Oliver..........6-1 ....289 pounds ...Basham......6-3.....281 pounds .(Zimmer).....6-3......300 pounds) Big Gollots to stuff the run on first down ....Butler......6-4....330 pounds .....Star.......6-2.....315 pounds ...Phillips....6-3.....305 pounds .Zimmer....6-3......300 pounds I wonder if the Bills like the 6-6 guys because they get their hands up and take away passing alleys for the QB. ?? most nlf QB are usually 6' 2" (https://bleacherreport.com/articles/147430-the-quarterback-position-does-size-matter) Although arm length (vertical "standing reach") is different for people of the same height, on average we have the following standing reaches (https://www.thehoopsgeek.com/standing-reach/) 6-0.....8'... 0.1" 6-2.....8'...2.8" 6-3....8'....4.1" 6-4....8'....5.5" 6-6....8"...8.1" So, our 6-6 DE's will have their fingertips about 5.3" higher than a 6-2 QB. Actually, their fingertips will be maybe 8-9" higher than the release point of a thrown football. The the football is about 14" in thickest diameter and to deflect the ball they only have to touch the bottom of the football. So, they might have their fingertips about 15" above the bottom of the thrown football. Mahone is 6-3 for your information

Absolute no doubt about it. Efe Obada is going to make a huge impact as a pass rusher opposite Hughes on obvious passing downs. The two rookies will be going to school and learning the pro game and will see reps on the inside. Epenesa will be the 1st and 2nd down improving DE. We will be able to trade one of these guys in the offseason for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

It is nice to have someone who might have a real high ceiling. I wish we knew more. I wish we had a preseason last year and could have the data that we need. Not the coaches, that we fans need. We are arguing in a vacumn. We will get the data and this settled once we see how things perform in the preseason. ONE POINT is that we have a good coaching staff and THEY are keeping this guy around. We did NOT draft a RB, nor did we spend much to get two more candidates. We don't know, lets hope for the best. There is a chance that in a year, we may be glad that the lack of a pre season last year was a blessing, in that we were able to stash this guy while he developed. -

Let us realize that he has a lot of experience playing an open field tackling game like football,, AND 2+ years of NFL coaching. Somehow people get ga ga over an American who didn't play 4 years of HS football (maybe was a basketball player) and had one year of HS football & one year of college football and came out early. NO PROBLEM with that.?? ................ ..............I question whether a running back has to "all the receiving routes". Gheesh! he is not going to be a #1 or #2 wide out lining up outside the numbers! A wheel, a screen, a hitch, a hitch and go and a simple crossing pattern gives him enough options to be a weapon. -

?? Investing FA money on an inferior player is "penny wise and pound foolish". Don't be to sure about that "they know everything". There was an article about singletary's work this offseason and he was trying to change his running style to make sharper cuts down field when running a sweep/off tackle play and several other basics that have been keeping his run down in yardage. -
What's your top 4 pass rush package?
maryland-bills-fan replied to Royale with Cheese's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that is the best use of that trade. I rather a 2/3/high 4 draft pick. These will be more valuable than normal because of the bigger number of college players who stayed in college and because of the better ability to scout them. The Bills (a result of doing good) have a lower drafting position and need to take more "long shots" on high ceiling guys. We need more day 2 crap shots.
