  1. Well, a guy who is a better runner improves our team. Having another weapon (pass receiving RB) is always a good idea.
  2. I would think that a guy at #54 would be the RB1A back, not the alternate guy. Maybe not a TT the second, but somebody who would get more than 194 yards in a season- maybe 500-700 and who would be a threat in the passing game. That would also help the passing game for the wide outs. Why would anyone want to NOT use those parts of the playbook?
  3. Imagine if we ALSO had a running back who was a good receiver, something like that T .Thomas guy. Somebody that got like 55 catches in his senior year of college.
  4. I updated that post. I think E-H is a better receiver. ................. The stats in the NFL DO matter. ... The Bills did not use Singletary as a weapon in the passing game for a reason and you would think that a pass catching capable RB would be the best friend of a young QB. . I do not agree that Allen couldn't do the short pass to Singletary or that our coaches were either too dumb to use that type of weapon or had a much better plan, so they could dispense with the pass to the RB.
  5. Not the same skill set. E-H is a good receiver. Singletary ranks #44 in RB receiving in 2019. A dozen teams have TWO RB's with more catches. ===================================================================================== from Walter Football: Devin Singletary*, RB, Florida Atlantic #8 RB 2019 Height: 5-7. Weight: 203. Arm: 28.88. Hand: 8.50. 40 Time: 4.66. 10-Yd: 1.53. Three Cone: 7.32. Bench: 15. Vertical: 35. Broad: 9-9. Projected Round (2019): 3-4. 4/23/19: Singletary ran slower than expected at the combine, and his time was very poor for an undersized back. Singletary averaged 5.2 yards per carry in 2018 for 1,348 yards with 22 touchdowns. He notched six receptions for 36 yards. 8/28/18: Team sources told me that Singletary graded out as having first- through fourth-round potential per the advance scouts. According to NFL teams' preseason data provided by team sources, Singletary checks in at 5-foot-7, 199 pounds. He also has 29.83-inch arms, 8.75-inch hands, and a wingspan of 69.38 inches. He is said to run the 40 in 4.58 seconds. The short, thick back has good speed with impressive feet, balance and vision. In 2017, Singletary averaged 6.5 yards per carry for 1,796 yards and 29 touchdowns. He also had 18 receptions for 185 yards and one score. In 2016, Singletary averaged 6.7 yards per carry for 1,021 yards with 12 scores to go with 26 receptions for 163 yards in his freshman season. ========================================================================================== Clyde Edwards-Helaire*, RB, LSU #3 RB 2020 Height: 5-7. Weight: 207. Arm: 29. Hand: 9.63. 40 Time: 4.60. Projected Round (2020): 2-3. 4/4/20: Edwards-Helaire was a dangerous runner and receiver for the Tigers in 2019, doing a lot of dirty work for their point machine offense. The junior averaged 6.6 yards per carry in 2019 for 1,414 yards with 16 touchdowns. He also had 55 receptions for 453 yards and a score. Edwards-Helaire is a tough runner with quickness, cutting ability, vision, and natural body lean. His natural receiving skills make him a potential three-down starter.
  6. I agree. We are a good enough team across the board that a good veteran who is ready to play is a better use of resources and $$ than drafting a career backup. I think they have gone for difference makers early in the draft, and then long shots with the possibilty of being a star, in the later draft.

  8. I disagree that "Nobody we draft this year is going to start..." Homerism aside, Singletary is not a top notch running back. He is top 20 in rushing and top 45 in receiving. This year there are a number of very good running backs available. One of the top 3-4 may be available at our #54 (or with a modest trade-up like the Bills have done with their early picks in 2017, 2018 and 2019). The 4,5,6 guys would be around at #54 and would probably be an upgrade or equivalant (at worst) to Singletary. So the new RB1A would share time with Singletary but could be considered a starter.
  9. Here is an idea on wide receivers to consider. A typical story is that there are 21 WR rated in the top 100 and 9 in the top 40. (https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2864432-ranking-the-top-10-wide-receivers-of-potentially-historic-2020-nfl-draft-class#slide0). So there should be about 21 or so, drafted in the first 3 rounds. If all these guys stick, (and GM's don't like to give up on high draft picks the first year), then there will be 20 or so veteran WR's dropped from the rosters and hitting FA or the waiver wire. They will be highly available, because, well, most everybody got their roster full with wide receivers. We have 3 good starters and many Bills fans feel that we need more depth at WR. I would think that this upcoming year, when we have a chance to go deep into the playoffs, it would be nice to get a veteran WR backup for several reasons. #1 rookie WR's have a high bust rate,,,,,,, Suddenly a lot of money and fame,,, but have to work hard, maybe for the first time, #2 rookies have to learn the more complicated pro game and have to learn disciplined passing trees- it takes a while....... #3 we could pick up a veteran who is a known quantity and would have film on him in the NFL (rather then 3 years against DB's who never made it to the NFL),,,,,, #4 we could get a guy who fulfills our needs to complement or injury-replace our starters rather than getting raw material that might not fit #6 I always get leery about feeding frenzies, where greed ("everyone else got one, I GOTTA get one") starts to influence judgement. Even pro teams can be victims of this. #7 With all the new guys, it is a buyer's market and veterans will be cheaper than usual Getting this "nearly free" pro-ready, low risk WR could come from several places. Roster cut-downs Trades prior to roster cut-downs poach somebody off of a practice squad look into the 2021 draft, where there will be much less pressure on drafting additional WR- everybody is nearly full of them Anyway, we may not have to use the draft to improve the backup WR position and the above might make this more palatable.
  10. Our lead running back is rated about #20 in the nfl for 2019 in rushing and #44 in receiving. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/rb/2019 There are 3 outstanding RB who will likely go in the late 1st and early 2nd (Dobbins, Swift and Taylor), two that are just a little behind them (E-H and Akers- although Akers has some risk factor), and then 2 guys who should still be available in the 3d, Moss and Dillon. Our backup RB did not play (and probably didn't dress- I'm finding that hard to check on) in 10 games last year. This looks like the weak spot. Beane has said that he wants "touchdown makers", and that implies somebody who has the ball in their hands a lot. Singletary had TWO TD's last year. I think it is time to go for a RB-1A and upgrade on Singletary (RB-1B). I also think that Beane tipped his hand in a recent press conference. ( https://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/2020/04/nfl-draft-2020-buffalo-bills-gm-brandon-beane-not-ruling-out-trading-up-in-round-2.html) https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/rb/2019 OK, I doctored this up and replaced "receiver" (what he did say) with running back which is what I think he meant and was thinking. He couldn't just say that but was being honest. He had just finished getting his #1 WR and there is no case where he would be lusting after only three key WR 's dropping deep into the second round. This is how they (Beane et.a;.) have run the early parts of the previous 3 drafts- I'm expecting the same approach this year.
  11. Easier to fill, yes. A top 10 guy, no.
  12. Singletary is 22th in rushing and 44th in receiving. There are 32 teams in the league. There are about a dozen teams that have TWO running backs with more receiving yards than Singletary. We need an upgrade. Beane has said that he wants players who can score touchdowns. Singletary has two. Facts do matter. "All right everyone, line up alphabetically according to your height." Casey Stangel
  13. Yep. Everything except you opinion is horse manure. People who grade RB's are all horse manure. Low yardage production from Singletary doesn't count. 2 TD's a year is not important. Of course. By the way, Singletary ranked #48 among pass receivers in 2019. 41 catches for 194 yards. The top RB got over a 1000 yards, the top 7 got over 500, the top 32 got over 233 yards. If you wanted the Bills to do good this coming year, maybe an upgrade in the RB passing game would be nice? Naw. Just a HS idea. https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/rb/2019
  14. A lot of this "hate" is just trolls trolling for getting people upset. Allen is the Buffalo QB, people root for him and the Bills to do good. The jerks like to piss on the Bill fan's hopes and get some thrills for being able to affect people Jerks like that are losers.
  15. Walter football has him as a 3-4 round pick with a bit of upside and good receiving capability. IF we don't get one of the top 3 and th wite #4, #5 have some problems or if a real stud at another position falls to around #54, I have no problem with him in the 3rd.
  16. Most positions on the team have backups who are pretty close to the starting player and play a similar position. There are a few positions (QB, #1 WR, #1 CB) where there are not enough high calibre players in the league to allow a similarily skilled backup. Our backup at RB only played in 4 games and got 15 carries for 64 yards. We need an upgrade from him and a RB who will be rated better than #20 in the league.
  17. If you look at where Singletary fit in the rankings of RB, he is around #20. He is also notably fair to poor in pass receiving. A SB team should have a RB in the top 10, if they can. That is what the draft is for and this year there are some studs available.
  18. I agree that this is likely. But there will be ? 5 WR drafted before #22 and ? 30 drafted after #22. Not specific to WR but interesting is the following, chance of making an nfl roster: https://www.forbes.com/sites/prishe/2015/05/22/tracking-nfl-draft-efficiency-how-contingent-is-success-to-draft-position/#39821e577495 Or in terms of how many players you need to draft at lower round to match a 1st round pick Round 1 1 2 1.7 3 2.4 4 2.8 5 4.7 6 6.1 7 7.1 Note that this is for players who just make a roster- not for starters or all pros. Depends upon exactly what you are talking about.
  19. Well as to QB. If you can not imagine this guy ever starting, then why? They can get a veteran who could contribute immediately (by sitting on the bench).
  20. Most lists of best RB in the 2019 season have Singletary about #20. If he gets hurt, we will have a guy who didn't even dress for most games last year. In a good year for RB, we can get a top 3 or at least a top 5 guy. Are you happy with Mr. #20 as RB, when we may have a shot at going deep in the playoffs?
  21. I like Singletary but when you look up the ratings of NFL RB’s in 2019, the best I see him rated is #20. Maybe other posters know or can find other reports that have him rated higher. “20” is about bottom third of the league. If we are to be a contender, I would like to see our RB rated in the top 10. Singletary is #22 here: https://www.thedelite.com/nfl-starting-running-backs-ranked-for-2019-season =============================================== Singletary is #20 here: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/rb/2019 ================================================= Singletary is #20 here in a composite fantasy list: https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/rankings/rb-cheatsheets.php ================================================ Singletary is #30 here: (nlf.com) https://www.tennesseetitans.com/video/nfl-com-ranks-nfl-s-top-running-backs-of-2019 ================================================= others?

  23. Ok, Beane came in after that first draft. I suspect that changes in philosophy might have happened before Beane came in.
  24. Hyde had a 1 year $ 2.8 million contract with KC last year. I think we will not be interested in him unless the draft doesn't bring us a RB. He was drafted #57 in 2014, so he is in his 7th year, so he is not a young puppy. He is not that expensive compared to 2nd and 3rd round draft picks, who are on a 4 year contract. Those contracts go about as follows: 2nd round $M per year bonus $M 33-41 1.8 0 .9 42-48 1.6 0.7 49 - 64 1.1 0.6 3rd round 75-92 0.95 0.2 https://heavy.com/sports/2019/04/nfl-draft-pick-salaries-contracts-signing-bonuses/ https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/carlos-hyde-14467/
