OT - Going to New Orlean for First Time Tonight
HopsGuy replied to Matt in KC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nah. It's from "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil". The story is set in Savannah GA, but the character to which the quote is attributed is a witchdoctor. NOLA is famous for its voodoo. -

Visit a cemetary. All the crypts are above ground (NOLA is under sea-level). "To understand the living, you got to commune with the dead." -
Men's Health ranked 101 American Cities for depression (the higher the rank, the less depressed the city). The Nickel City came in a respectable 11th. Rochester was 43rd, just ahead of San Diego. The most depressed city? You guessed it: Philadelphia. Jersey City ahead of Honolulu?

You know the Kernal is part of the pentavlit, don't you? He puts spices in his chicken that make you crave it fortnightly! Aye!

Thats It! I am moving back to Syracuse!

Meanwhile in South FL... Sunshine along with a few clouds. High near 85F. Winds S at 20 to 30 mph. It's a little windy, but it's warming up. Saw my first gecko in months this morning. Oh, and did I mention the girls on Spring Break? -
Well, this awful economy in Buffalo still found
HopsGuy replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Though rare, it has been done. My buddy's sister moved to FL for a few years after college. She moved back to Rochester and has been a Bills season-ticketholder for 15+ years. She even managed to crash a Jim Kelly post-game party once. Her profession? She's a high-school teacher. Subject? [Wait for it, wait for it] Spanish! I guess you need to immerse yourself in it first. -

I would say that your departure would free up more chicks for me, but then again I don't think you're fishing in my pond. (j/k) Good luck with all of that. -
Which team? The book was about the first team. The History Channel special was about the second team. Very interesting story.

Hey any of you good WNY Itallians out there

Jack Woltz: Now you listen to me, you smooth talking SOB. Let me lay it on the line for you and your boss, whoever he is. Johnny Fontane will never get that movie. I don't care how many dago guinea wop greaseball goombahs come out of the woodwork. -
Drexel University, BSEE '93 Half the campus is named after Bennett LeBow, but Chuck ("Gong Show") Barris is probably our most famous grad.

Who's Your Favorite Buffalo Bills Player?
HopsGuy replied to R. Rich's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All Time: Thurman Current: Moulds (closing the gap based on the comment about respecting those that were Bills in the past) Most of my honorable mentions have already been mentioned honorably in this thread. -
Saget was on HBO in Rodney Dangerfield's Young Comedians Special circa 1985. I remember that special included Yakov Smirnoff, Rita Rudner and Sam Kinison. Saget was hilarious: "I love my mother... and you can too for just $12." I might be mistaken, but I think Kevin Pollack was in that one, too.

(OT) should this have ticked me off??

Go with Fez's option C. You can't change people and all you'll end up doing is getting yourself upset about the carelessness of others. Simply take the cart back to corral (?), and know in your soul that you're a better person for it. That's exactly what I did once. -
Is Phil Mickelson hiding something?
HopsGuy replied to BillsNYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was there on Saturday. A friend of a friend of a friend is a tour player. He left some passes for us. The galleries following Tiger and Phil were the biggest I've seen. I parked myself near the 9th green for a while and the best shot I saw was Jeff Sluman. He missed an ace by about 3 inches. It was a Chamber of Commerce day with sunshine and a high of 75. Headed over to the Elbo Room afterwards. It was quite a day. -
I read this and then passed it on to my buddy. Here's his response: Somebody in the administration has pissed this guy off, because he's gone from being a regular contributor to IBD and other such publications to openly embracing liberal and protectionist causes. Strange to say the least. I don't know the end result, but it's clear we need to raise domestic savings. Looking over time, the tax code certainly dictates personal, corporate, and government behavior, maybe not right away but the correlation is remarkable. Anything that can give incentives to saving would help us in the long term. There are huge issues to resolve, and luckily Bush is a guy who likes to tackle problems so much he goes out and looks for things to tackle. Passing the buck is the smartest political move, and creats fewer short-term dislocations, but certainly don't demonstrate leadership. Gotta raise domestic saving ASAP... Then we discussed why the Bills couldn't come up with $13M over 3 years for Big Pat.

Nate Clements is going to have to REALLY
HopsGuy replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amen to that. Even Frank Reich left for more money, but he was also going for a starting job. I'm trying to think of a another Bills player that stayed, just to stay. Didn't Bid Ted take a big pay cut (~$1 M) to stay an extra year? How about Tasker? -
Never had a nickname growing up. My intials are PD (HopsGuy is my confirmation name ), and a couple of years ago a friend (?) started calling me P-Diddy. I'm sorry to say that it has stuck. It's been shortened to Diddy, but that's what they call me. It's strictly because of my initials and has nothing to do with my ardent desire to sample old music for a hit that will make me rich.

I never would have guessed that what with you being in charge of the recipe section and all. Follow JSP instructions. It really is that simple. I don't get how some places can't make good wings. It's a simple recipe and it doesn't depend on regional specialites like bread in Philly. The talk of undercooked wings reminds me of that "Coach" episode where "Buffalo Billy" provides the Orlando team free wings and the whole team gets sick. Luther says, "I like my wings a little pink on the inside." Hilarity ensues.

Sports related question here...
HopsGuy replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His email is a closely guarded secret, but you can send a question from this page. He responded to one of my questions in his mailbag column a couple of years ago. I sent a link to his last intern and got a quick response, but it was never used. For those interested, go to IMdB and look up an actress named Kate Mara. Click on her biography and note who wrote it. The chick WROTE HER OWN IMDB BIOGRAPHY. The intern said that she needed to be called on it, but he never got around to it. -
Crown Royal or not, I always walk sideways into games. Otherwise the turnstile would smash the family jewels. Think about it.

The way these guys move around, you're better off getting a retired player or your own name. I have a home #81 (Bobby) Chandler. If I get another, it would be a road #89 (Lou) Piccone or road #80 (Jerry) Butler. Let 'em know how long you've been a fan.

quick question about the greatest NFL comeback

Another interesting Kenny Davis game: 1990 AFC Championship Game-Bills 51, Raiders 3 The Buffalo Bills finally advanced to the Super Bowl when they defeated the LA Raiders 51-3 to win the AFC title. The Bills, using their famous "No Huddle" offense, exploded for 502 yards on offense (202 of which were on the ground). Jim Kelly passed for an even 300 yards, completing 17 out of 23 and two touchdowns. Reserve RB Ken Davis scored 3 TDs in the victory. The Buffalo defense intercepted the Raiders QBs a total of 6 times, one returned by LB Daryl Talley for a TD to blow the game open 28-0. James Lofton's second TD reception against his former team put Buffalo ahead 41-3 just before the half. It was the most lopsided AFC Championship game in history and the Raider's worst playoff loss ever. -

A friend of mine does work for Shaq in Miami. He has to spend quite a bit of time with him, so he has the monotone, deadpan down pat. You wouldn't believe the stories.... Well, LABillz would. -
Have you ever seen this site? Some folks really have fun with the scammers.

Mr. Vargas: "Have a heart people... I just switched to Sanka." ---------------------------------------- A guy I work with said, "My brother-in-law is that guy's cousin." I said to him, "Hmmm, so by marriage you're almost related to a great character actor (Vincent Schiavelli). That's far and away the coolest thing you've got going."
