At the news conference welcoming Bledsoe, I couldn't help but think, "If Jimbo is really 6' 3", then Drew must be topping out at 6' 8"." DB just towered over Kelly. I think back in the 80s if you're vitals got bumped in HS/college, it sort of trailed you around. Ask George O'Leary.

I remember those places, but they were closed by the time I was of legal drinking age. Lots of Olean bars closed after the drinking age was raised to 21. It's not like Olean didn't have enough bars, though. Heck, we had two just in my family (Don's & Donovan's Cafe). West played at my high school a couple of times. I caught Fat Brat at Copperfield's once (bar at the old Holiday Inn). Like you, those band names escape me now.

When I lived in the Town of Tonawanda, I was a regular at the Raintree Pub. I was on the softball and puck bowling teams. Don't ask.

Yeah, well your dogma will never catch my karma.

Should Frank Reich make the Wall of Fame?
HopsGuy replied to Mort Hendrickson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wasn't "The Screen Game" in Jan '93 ('92 season AFC Championship)? The end-around, Derrick Holmes/Tim Tindale thrashing (aka Shula's last game) was in the first round of the '95 playoffs (Jan '96). -
Should Frank Reich make the Wall of Fame?
HopsGuy replied to Mort Hendrickson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That was a regular season game week 16. The Reich-led victory clinched home field advantage. They finished the regular season the following week with a loss at Washington. Gale Gilbert had two TD passes to Steve Tasker. -
Bills Sign 7th Round Pick Lionel Gates
HopsGuy replied to Mark VI's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking the same thing. $11,333 against the cap, but the guy could still get cut before the first bus unloads at Fisher. After taxes/agent's cut, this guy probably doesn have a whole lot of waking-around money in his pocket. Then again, he doesn't have to fight traffic to get to his cubicle each morning. -
1) Why did you move out of Buffalo? Same as just about everyone else... my job. 2) Where did you go? Wait for it... wait for it... SYRACUSE. I just wasn't getting enough snow in Buffalo. Two years later I moved to South Florida for a.... better job! I've been here for 6+ years. 3) How does your new home compare to Buffalo? Lots of stuff to do. Some things are more expensive, but I make more $ and there is no state income tax. Sales tax is 6%. The weather is better most of the time, but I have to deal with hurricanes which are way worse than blizzards. WNY summers are the best. 4) If the econonmy and job market were stable would you move back? Maybe. There's nothing keeping me here. It would have to be a pretty sweet deal though. 5) What suggestions to you have to improve the quality of life here? The quality of life is actually pretty decent in WNY. If the government can get their collective foot off of the neck of working people, things would be very nice. If WNYers had the ability to save a bit and spend a bit more, the place would be perfect. Of course, that goes back to better jobs. There's nothing I can suggest that hasn't already been said.

This wasn't in North Olean was it? The run-off from the old Van der Horst plant has made some of the soil a bit toxic.

Hey Johnny. How about some coffee?

The teams must come to an equitible revenue sharing agreement before they can begin negotiating with the union for the next CBA. If they don't 2007 becomes an uncapped year. If that happens, all hell will break loose. All of these articles mention Jones and Snyder, the two most visible owners (self-promoters) as leading the 'bloc' of big-revenue teams. I don't think that the other large market owners are necessarily aligning themselves with these guys. Bob McNair in Houston makes a good point about the debt service obligations that he has. For the most part, these are smart business men that realize that what is good for the league is good for them. They see the big picture. I have faith that Tagliabue will get this hammered out. That cat knows what he's doing.

Life after RW for the Buffalo Bills
HopsGuy replied to Like A Mofo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's a page about the Green Bay Packer's stock. I remeber in the late 80s/early 90s the Boston Celtics went public. Their stock traded on the American Stock Exchange (or as it is better known, the den of thieves). It was taken private and has been ever since. I think some arena football teams are publicly owned and trade on the Nasdaq Small Cap. Anyway, the other posters are correct. No other team will every go public. It doesn't make financial sense for the league, and God knows that everything that Tagliabue does makes good financial sense. -
I must have figured this wrong. I ended up with Orange Kangaroos in Denmark.

Anybody ever see comic Brian Regan?
HopsGuy replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Mitch Hedberg talked about how because he was in comedy, people always wanted to know "can you act?" or "can you write?". He said it's not like people go up to chefs and say "you're a good cook, can you farm?" I like Regan. They play him on radio a lot here for the Five Thirty Funnies. It works well because his stuff is clean. I remember one of his jokes about how people on the phone use the phoenetic alphabet, but he couldn't do that because he'd always freeze up: "My confirmation code... uhhh sure... it's 'B' as in "Baked Beans".... 'P' as in "Pneumonia"(?)... 'K' as in Kadaffi... and 'Q' as in... uhhh... "Qadaffi"." Good stuff. -
Go easy on Dave, Lori. He isn't getting much sleep with the dragsters next door keeping him up all night.

Lost my ass in the Derby, so I'm approaching with some reticence. My former boss grew up near Belmont and his father was in the biz. Here's his analysis: OK. Giacomo is not a Triple Crown horse, thus, I throw him out of this race. He ran a big one in the Derby but everything went his way. His outside post will certainly hurt him. Afleet Alex, one of my Derby horses, is also hurt by the post and has one of the worst jockeys to carry a license. He's out. My other Derby pick, Sun King, continues to train well and will ONCE again be a top pick for me. Plus a jockey change usually haunts the jock that gave up the mount (Prado in this case)..... Playing Sun with Greeley Galaxy. Horse ran a strong Derby, shorter distance will help and besides the new Star Wars movie opened yesterday..... A few funny bucks will be placed on Going Wild (my friend rides him) and why can't we witness two 50-1 shots win back-to-back. Also, a few $'s on Wilko. As much as I do not like Jerry Bailey he is a winner and perhaps what this 2yr old champ needs to rebound. A few minutes later he came back with some corrections: A few corrections, had "old" info. 1 - My friend is not riding Going Wild. Heck, what's $2's. 2 - Bailey is on High Fly not Wilko. Thus the Bailey bet will continue. 3 - Wilko.... Corey is a really good rider so that bet will stand. Still like my top 2 choices...... In the words of the big guy in "Let it Ride", I'm gonna put '$2 on the longest shot there is so I don't get my heart broke.' Enjoy.

Check out this phishing scam I just got...
HopsGuy replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Acidity? Click here for your litmus paper. Maybe this is really a pH-ishing scam? Get it? pH? Hello? Is this thing on? -
Let's get back to this "product of a system" argument. What were Billy Brooks' numbers for that 1995 campaign? As I recall, when Andre went down with the hamstring injury, it was Brooks that took his place. That might be a pretty good indicator as to whether Andre was just being plugged into a juggernaut offense. In the '96 opener, Andre showed that he was completely healed when he hauled in that bomb and broke away for the TD. When I summon to mind the memories of Andre, it's the 3 TDs in the Comeback and that one against the Giants on TNT Nitro that I think of.

Of course, that's exactly what happened when John Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship.

Depends on your definition of security. The Ancient Egyptians thought cats to be gods. Why? Because the greatest threat to health back then was the disease spread by vermin (mice, rats). Cats were the natural predators of these vermin. Their mere presence added to the overall health of the populace. Presence of cats = healthy community. A couple of years ago, a reporter asked one of the maintenance guys at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia why there were so many stray cats roaming the stadium. They guy said, "It's either the cats or the rats. We prefer the cats." Yes, I'm a cat person. I've got nothing against dogs. In fact I like dogs. I may just own one someday. I just don't get the comtempt people have for cats. To each his own.
