  1. I'm convinced that I could have a more entertaining half-time show that what we've seen the last 15 years. I'd get two of those dogs that catch Frisbees and just have them do that for 15 minutes. I'd sell ad space on those kerchiefs around their necks. You can't tell me that wouldn't be a winner.
  2. Here's another story about Caitlin Burke. She's just my type.
  3. Ever hear Costas tell about "Miss Cheesecake"?
  4. There was a girl that was an RA at my school (20+ years ago!) that was obsessed with getting on game shows. She actually did make it onto "Remote Control". She told me about a questionnaire she filled out for "Wheel of Fortune" and she seemed to think that they looked for contestants that would buy vowels even when they didn't need to. She guessed that it made the game more interesting for home viewers to see more of the puzzle revealed slowly. I remember a scene in "L.A. Law" where Douglas was on "WoF" and he guessed a puzzle with no letters or something like that, so this is just a case of life imitating art. I occasionally catch an episode of "Jeopardy!" just to renew my faith that there are still some pretty smart folks out there.
  5. The cold open was funny. It's embedded here. I like the Don Draper cameo.
  6. Best performance ever on Conan, by the great Norm MacDonald: The 3rd part is Conan interviewing Courtney Thorne Smith, but Norm keeps interrupting making it a mockery of the entire proceedings. Fantastic stuff.
  7. When the Hokies come in to "Enter Sandman", the place is absolutely electric. Here's . Sometimes I REALLY wish I had gone to a football school. This was one of those times.
  8. Does Big Daddy's buy from you? There's one down the block from me. You can definitely tell the difference between grass fed and what we normally get at 5 Guys.
  9. That can happen when you don't keep an eye on your cauldron. I voted Saturday morning. You know who doesn't vote? Hot chicks. Not a single one in line. It got me thinking, "they don't need political representation, they get everything they want anyway. No wonder they're not here."
  10. Look at how good the post-season pitching was in the NL: Link Cincinnati had the worst staff ERA at 2.52. NOBODY was hitting. The Giants were neck and neck with the Padres all year for best pitching, but they really turned it on at the end while the Padres floundered. It was a fun post-season to watch. I'm almost sorry to see it go because now we begin the watch to see how much Cliff Lee gets from the Yankees. $120M/6?
  11. HBD Mr. Meade. Your positivity is a rare trait and always needed here.
  12. Stick with "Mad Men". You'll be blown away by the Kodak pitch at the end of season 1. I 2nd "Breaking Bad" and "Weeds" and "The Wire". All very good. "Weeds" has completely changed from its premise, but the characters are interesting. Seeing Andy Botwin (Justin Kirk) on "Modern Family" the other night threw me a bit. "Treme" was very good, but you better like jazz. For something lighter, try "Party Down". There's only 20 episodes, but it's pretty good. Also, "Californication" kept my interest.
  13. I always thought of "Gremlins" as more of a Christmas movie, if only for the following: It was the "feel good story" of my youth.
  14. Poor Kaley. She's on the IR. Stupid horse. How about Leonard with Raj's sister? For a nerd, he does pretty well with the ladies.
  15. Agreed. I cringed at that. Respect the office, funny guy.
  16. Paul Tudor Jones letter to Investors An aside: A friend of mine traded a portfolio for PTJ for a while. He was having back problems and Jones had him come to his monstrous home to meet with "Pete". Pete told him the same sort of advice: "You're fat. You need to lose weight, or you'll always have back problems."
  17. Dracula has a heart, .
  18. When I was a kid (wait, I still am!), I would listen to Phillies' games on the radio (1210 WCAU). I had to hold the tuning dial and put my foot on the refrigerator to get the dulcet tones of Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn. Olean is a long way from Philly. It's not the same as walking to school in the snow uphill (bothways!), but that was a hardship kids will never know. "Swing and a long drive. There it is. Number 500! The career 500th home run for Michael, Jack, Schmidt!" All right. Let's get it started.
  19. Joe - you hate Phillies fans, not the Phillies themselves, correct? Ryan Howard seems the likable sort. At least more likable than a dude so narcissistic that he has not one, but two paintings of himself as a centaur.
  20. Someone took the time to describe technically how to ensure you do not have to endure Buck & McCarver. Hey, Roy Halladay was "unhittable" (literally) until he met the Giants. Anything is possible here. I have no rooting interest.
  21. Sterling's Gold is going to be published. Remember, when God closes a door, he opens a dress.
  22. I can see the argument for more targeted advertising. Last week I got a direct mail promo/coupon for a hairstylist specializing in "relaxers". The salon location is in the 'hood, while I live in a pretty tawny (and very white) section. Also, I'm a white male with a very Irish sounding name (never mind that I'm bald). I was sort of angry that the direct mailers, located in Texas, sold this to the salon-owner as a viable strategy to gain new business.
  23. The Problem of Evil
  24. This gif is mesmerizing. The symmetry is beautiful with fat guys and the other dads pointing out the nuances to their sons. I bet Andy Samberg has already written a skit.
