I just started and finished watching Breaking Bad

The M60 is a crew served weapon consisting of a gunner, an assistant gunner and an ammo bearer. The gun itself is 23+ pounds, I doubt the cancer-riddled (cough) Walt will be toting that sucker anywhere. He's most likely to be using it as a last-stand weapon against approaching foes - probably a lot of foes (DEA agents?). It will be interesting to see just how he gets himself in such a situation. No doubt that Chrysler 300 will suffer. -

At the Pat's line, I always went "Provolone, wit." Tried whiz once, didn't like it. Tried Geno's once. Same. Jim's on South Street was good. Tony Luke came along after I left. It's all about the bread. -

I call BS. No late night in Philly, but the sandwich for Pittsburgh is a cheesesteak at Primanti's? We made numerous late night runs to Pat's King of Steaks at 9th & Passyunk. And while I like Primanti's, my late night choice for after-bar food in the 'Burgh would be Fries from the "O". -

There's a big scheme a brewing for this week. Here's what I think it is: -
"Falling Skies"...New Show from S.Spielberg.

Bennet Ahmed survived the beat-down from Stan and Belco only to get eaten from the inside-out by mini-skitters. Guy can't catch a break. Ok, I'll stop now. -

Oh yeah. Thought is was great. John Seda portrayed John Basilone so well. Too bad Shane from "The Walking Dead" had to die at Guadalcanal. Then Leckie was so good on "Rubicon" but then Clay Davis from "The Wire" had to off Rita Skeeter. I watch too much television. -
Yup. Every system that can have a back-up, has a back-up. Remember when NASA lost a Mars probe because the vendor (Lockheed-Martin) did their work in English units rather than the standard metric? My geek friends and I had an email exchange that basically asked. "Who uses English other than the marketing department?" The first two weeks of my Dynamics course almost made me think about switching to business. Then we switched to metric and it became almost simple. I keep checking the Olympic medal count to see if the US can catch China once the subjective scoring events are over. I wish there was an event for putting a mobile lab the size of a Ford Festiva on the surface of Mars. We'd have swept.

So Colonel Sink* is in charge in Charleston? Wonderful. I'm still mad at him for bragging all day on the radio for the raid that killed Private Jackson*. The 2nd Mass. is doomed. *These are Band of Brothers references. -

Sam Clemens: TRUTH. The other stuff makes me think your family life could be fodder for the next "Raymond". Mine that. -

He can only read what's in the script. Walt Jr. appears to be more of a plot device rather than a real character. He's something for which Walt Sr. is responsible and part of what drives him to do what he does so he can support his family should cancer take his life. Add-in MS and it makes that responsibility more pronounced. Walt Sr. knows there's a lot of breakfasts in the future and bacon doesn't grow on trees. -

Good review. I have to believe that Todd will become an important character going forward. He's a good actor ("Friday Night Lights") and there's no reason to waste that. No Hank this episode but that happens. I'm beginning to wonder if "Walt Jr. & breakfast" is the writers saying "yeah, we know." Walt is clearly upset about Mike's plan to make his 9 guys 'whole'. Mike is there for the business and Lydia's access to methylamine (sp?) but the Icarus reference to Jesse tells us that Walt thinks Mike is expendable. And Walt manipulating Jesse to break it off with Andrea will only make Walt think he's that much more of 'the man'. Lots of different ways for the writers to take this show from here but the M-60 at the Denny's sort of tells us that Walt has put himself into a place where he needs crazy fire-power (I've fired one and it's awesome!). This is a great show. -
Just had to share with you guys...

Good on you. Remember: You still have to get up and write every day. Also, "The first draft of anything is s#!t." - E. Hemingway -
I like TV related names. Mentioned in another thread: Ted Beneke's Twitching Hand (Breaking Bad) Others: Hanging with Lane Pryce (Mad Men) The Mouth of Debra Morgan [We're Filthy] (Dexter) BBQ at Hershel's Barn (The Walking Dead) You Pay the Iron Price (Game of Thrones) Omar Comin' (The Wire) And when you destroy your opponent, post to the message board, "Yo, you should change your team to 'Chik-Fil-A' 'cause they don't show up on Sunday!"

You're right but it's an opinion of opinions. I remember reading a few years ago about a BBWAA member not voting for Rickey Henderson on the first ballot because "I never vote for anyone on the first ballot". Really? Just look at this. Dude led the AL in walks at age 39. 39! Also, there's no such thing as 'objectivity'. It's like 'perfection'. It's a noble pursuit but an unreachable destination. No need to be sorry. I missed the Koufax, Drysdale & Gibson in '68. We can't choose when/where we're born. But now I'm thinking how we're thrust into our teams/religion like in the OSU tie thread. No need to re-hash that.

I have to explain this? It was counter to Winfield, who played on the Yankees for 9 years and had quite a bit of success there. I picked Winfield and Yount because they are both HOFer with 3k+ hits and were sound defensively (like Ichiro). I'm quite sure I could find multiple Yankees fans (not named Steinbrenner) that would tell me that Dave Winfield was a far superior player. (I remember a guy telling me that Roger Maris deserved enshrinement in Cooperstown. Even when I showed that his career stats were comparable to Greg Freaking Luzinski he kept going on.) Now I just smile politely when Yanks fans talk about the HOF (especially those not from the tri-state area). Y'know, except on the internet.

Here's the scene (note the Godfather homage with the oranges): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POv2gTykfyY I think "Ted Beneke's Twitching Hand" would make a terrific name for a fantasy football team. -
He's definitely a HOFer (I hate the 1st ballot thing - the guy is or he isn't). He has a lifetime WAR of 54.7. In comparison, Dave Winfield's was 59.4 and because I hate the Yankees, you should know that Robin Yount's was 72.4. Now, Ichiro's lifetime OPS+ is only 113 (Yount 115, Winfield 130) but if he can get to 3k hits, it's a slam-dunk. I'd vote for him but I don't get a vote (though I'm quite sure I understand the game much better than a few that do).

News Radio - solid ensemble cast, might have been the last great 4-camera w/ laugh-track sitcom. I couldn't get through 5 minutes of Charlie Sheen's new show.

I wasn't saying there was a right answer one way or another, just offering a parallel. For me, I don't mind being a hypocrite for a couple of hours to honor the life of a deceased friend. I think of fanaticism in sports or religion to be quite similar and am happy to have outgrown moved past both.

Imagine that instead of being an OSU fan, the guy was a faithful Jew and that instead of it being a tie, it's a yarmulke. There, does that help?

Some spoilerish teases: -
My freak-like memory is my sole positive attribute. Until recently, most of my texts were questions like, "Who was the girl with the orange skin in 'Seifeld'? She just walked by us in Central Park." (My reply: Illeana Douglas, she was Scorsese's girlfriend.) Now everyone has a smart phone so it's more of "Did you get those charges dropped?"

Someone posted a picture of T-bone to TSW. It was followed by a comment that he looked "like a fun guy." DC Tom (or one of his other iterations) replied something like, "It's spelled fungi." I always liked that one.
