Well, here in Broward we have quite a conspiracy theory going. The incumbent Elections Supervisor, Brenda Snipes who took over for Miriam Oliphant, who was fired for gross incompetence, is running unopposed as a Democrat. Both Snipes and Oliphant are African-Americans. The idea is that the Republicans decided that if they persuaded their guy to drop out of the race then fewer blacks would show up at the polls because their gal was going to win anyway. Nice theory, huh? I went to vote last night but the line was crazy. I might try again this weekend, but I'll probably end up waiting until election day.

I agree with ya Rich on the whole decline of the sitcom. Every one of those shows have the same format: Slobbish dolt with a hot wife that he couldn't get in real life. That's why Seinfeld endures. Wasn't the thing about HSB that the city was never mentioned by name, but all of the streets were from Buffalo?

M&T Bank Stadium really blows.....
HopsGuy replied to CentralVaBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was in Cleveland for a wedding this weekend. We decided to extend our trip and go see the Eagles-Browns game. Here's a brief synopsis: We got downtown around 10 AM and parked in a city lot for $6 (Nice!). We got some grub and a much needed Bloody Mary (Have you ever been to a wedding with Olean people? Only the strong survive). The illicit ticket market seemed a bit high, but as an experienced scapler, I could tell it was a buyers market. You just needed to be patient. We were able to get 3 tickets for about $20 over face, but 2 were together while the other was in the Dawg Pound. One of my buddies is a huge Browns fan, so he had no problem sitting alone. My other friend and I made our way up the ramp. My legs were burning when we got to our seats in the next-to-the last row of the upper deck. Still not so bad, though. I can't really comment on the tailgating as we didn't really venture into the parking lot. It didn't appear to rival what we have in OP, but I could be wrong. The game was great and the place was rocking. They have a rock and roll song/video with highlights and lyrics from the whole history of the Browns. No official Browns cheerleaders, but there were some high school girls doing the honors. The real kicker? GE Smith (remember the Saturday Night Live band?) had a band that played during the usually insufferable TV timeouts. Everything was cool... right up until TO made his first TD. Uggghhhh! The Browns battled back pretty well and the game was one of the better ones I've seen. I didn't really get to follow what was happening in Baltimore with the Bills. It seems that they don't list the Ravens on the out-of-town scoreboard. I guess they're still a little bitter about that whole abandoning the town for $$$ - thing. Go figure. We headed out to Pannini's to watch the late games (and chase women), and despite the loss it still a pretty decent scene. All in all, I'd give the experience an 8. -
You can complain about Dale Sveum's horrible decision to send Damon on that play. BTW, is there anyone in the history of baseball whose name is pronounced more differently than it's spelled than that guy? Maybe Doug Mientkiewicz? Either way, he's the Sade of baseball.

Don't let them get you down Ken. Now don't forget, the most important part of the surge suppressor is the earth-ground connection. You have to make sure you drive the ground rod AT LEAST six feet into the earth. Come on guys, this line of discussion is terribly interesting!

if the election were today
HopsGuy replied to billsrecieversdroptomanyballs's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, he did leave out one of the o's. I guess that's the discounted name. When did this "None" guy get on the ballot? And just where is "The Above"? -
OT: You think you are having a bad day?
HopsGuy replied to EndZoneCrew's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's pretty bad. Can you take Military Trail, or somthing else up there? When I lived in Deerfield and worked in Boca, I'd take 95 in the morning (I'd get in early so 95 wasn't all that bad) and take an alternate route home to avoid that deathtrap. -
Gamblers - is that time of the week again
HopsGuy replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm in a horrible slump, but just like a basketball player I've got to keep shooting: Bills - 6.5 Lions - 2 Browns - 3 I also like Virginia +3 @ FSU and Western Michigan -4.5 over Eastern Michigan. Miami -20 over Buffalo? That's a college matchup that I won't touch for karma reasons. -
Pretty top-heavy on the Springsteen, huh? I know this stuff is purely subjective, but gee whiz!

Worst play in history of the Bills?
HopsGuy replied to tennesseeboy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here's one that I'm sure you'll remember: Back in '97 the AVP-led Bills make an amazing comeback against the soon-to-be world champion Broncos to send the game into overtime. Some genius decided that it was time for an Andre Reed end-around. I believe the play lost ~30 yards. The Broncos scored on their next possession. Ugggghhhhh! -
Shawshank Redemption coming to theaters
HopsGuy replied to stevestojan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The title of the Stephen King novella was "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption". It was in "Different Seasons" along with "The Body", upon which "Stand by Me" was based. I think "Apt Pupil" was in there, too. Good movie. You could probably make a decent list of flicks that did better in video than at the box office. Caddyshack comes to mind. -
Based on my record of 0-2-1 last week, I'm not sure I want to even try. My reversion to the mean strategy probably need a few more weeks (injuries?) to be ready. Anyway: Seattle -7 (-6 was available earlier in the week) over St. Louis Green Bay -3.5 over Tennessee ------------------- Nothing else looks very attractive at this point. I like the Buckeyes -3 over the Badgers. The OK-Tex game will be interesting, but it will be a game time decision for me.

Edwards is a lightweight.

Here's a conspiracy theory for you: Halliburton wins no bid contracts because (A) Halliburton is the only company that can do the job, (B) the only other company that can do the job is Schlumberger and we can't be awarding contracts to companies that are ostensibly French. -
I ususally get to work about 15 minutes late. I sneak in the side door so my boss doesn't see me. Then I zone out for about 15 minutes. I just stare at my desk. It looks like I'm working. I do it again for about 15 minutes after lunch. I only actually get about 3 hours of real work done per week. ------------------------------------------------------------- That whole loss of productivity thing is ridiculous. Are there any studies on how much more productive the US worker has become since 1995? Of course there are! The low inflation numbers were attributed to the huge rise in productivity depite an overheated (can you say bubble?) economy.

Sports in America are starting to Suck!!
HopsGuy replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That reminds me of a funny story. 10 years ago I was at my Officer Basic Course. This old government schlub was teaching basic electricity to 35 brand new lieutenants, most of whom had gone through ROTC where everything is PC. I was nodding off since what he was covering I learned in high school physics, but then he said something that just made me roar with laughter. He was covering current and said, "Maybe some of you ladies (referring to the dozen or so women in the class) have seen on your vacuum cleaners the amperage rating on the motor?" I can still see the looks of shock on my classmates faces. You can't say that! Men use vacuum cleaners, too. I'm laughing about it right now. God, that was funny. -
By my estimation, Tiger had the lowest handicap but was the 4th richest person there. Gates Oprah MJ Tiger Also, Tiger's net worth was cut in half when he said "I do".

He is? I read his Red Sox - Angels preview today for free and now there is a prompt to sign up? I sure hope this is a technical glitch. He said that he wanted his content to remain free and would fight any attempt to make it part of the premium service. That would stink.

(OT) If the Bisons are ever added as a MLB
HopsGuy replied to USMCBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good hypothetical question. I really don't know. I'm a diehard Phillies fan (The Season did this year's Phillies last night - heart wrenching). I thought that once Mike Schmidt retired, I'd follow some other team, but that didn't happen. I figure I'll always be a Phillies fan, but Buffalo getting MLB would make it quite a dilemma for me. That said, I don't think it would be possible in today's baseball economics. There's no real room for expansion. The Bisons will always be AAA. Maybe that ain't so bad. -
giambra wants to raise sales tax in erie county
HopsGuy replied to sweet baboo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Me too, but not every state can count on the wonderful revenues generated by tourism. We have it so good here in FL that we can even have a "no tax" week. I bought $400 worth of stuff that week. -
I rarely put in a bet, but I'm seriously considering some action this week. I'd like to bet the Bills (+5.5) and take the points, but I tend to avoid Bills games because I already have an emotional investment in the game. Of course I'm breaking the "Never Bet Against Bill Belichek" rule, but there's the home "dog" angle, too. The other game is the Fish (+6). Yeah I already have the root against the Dolphins interest, but I just think that the NYC bias has pushed this too high and Miami can't be that bad can they? I like Tampa getting 3, too. I don't do teasers or parlays. I'm just getting the itch for some action this week. I'd like to get the board's thoughts before The Sports Guy column comes out later and gives reasons why he's taking the other side.

(OT) Halloween is just around the corner
HopsGuy replied to ACor58's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I had a similar one about 10 years ago. I safety-pinned a bunch of small stuffed animals to my clothes. It was "Animal Magnetism". One chick said, "What are you supposed to be? Road kill?" Another one in a similar vein: buy a package of those single serving cereal boxes. "Stab" each one with a plastic knife and have "blood" (use nail polish or something similar) running from the "wounds". Tell people you're a "Cereal Killer". Last year I was Steve Bartman. I saw 3 other guys with the same costume. I need something a little more original this year. -
Many of my favorites have already been listed, so I'll add "Freak Talks About Sex". Steve Zahn and some other dude play slackers in Syracuse. I probably like it more because I lived there, but it's one of those movies that is better than it sounds. Then again, I lived in Buffalo and HATED "Stiletto Dance". God I wish I could get that 90 minutes of my life back.
