PFF was down on Allen (aggressively so) when he was drafted

They dont like to admit they are wrong

I like PFF and see it as a useful tool, and yet when it comes to Allen PFF sure seems to have a bone to pick here. Someone posted Allen's passing grade as around 60 (average) by PFF's standards. Funny how PFF doesn't mention that Allen's passing grade has improved (I think by over 10 points) from a poor player to an average one and that his running grade is what is dragging him down, by their standards.

To me, a player who has just completed his first 16 games. Has improved his passing (what has been most criticized) despite his grade being weighed down by playing against a defense that might be historically good to me warrants optimism. Hard to see PFF as anything other than biased here.

  2. I remember in 2017 in a game against the Raiders. Tyrod threw a ball to Tate who maneuvered for a first down before running out of bounds to the Bills soundline. What looked like the entire team huddled around him and celebrated. I cannot remember the last time I saw a Bills team, that looked so much like a team. I hope McD continues to be successful because I love having him as a coach and love having players that fit his mold.

I get that, but unpredictability is the only area I actually see. I don’t think Daboll really has maximized the offense’s strengths, or masked deficiencies. He hasn’t called this offense consistent with the fact that we have an elite defense with a young QB. The run game and high percentage short passing games are crucial with an elite defense. I see too much of an emphasis on establishing the passing game at times when the running game needs to be used.

Josh Allen is not ready to consistently take over games at this point in his career. Our offense needs to be a team effort, and sometimes it feels like our play calling is placing too much on Allen’s shoulders imo. Daboll began the season by having Allen throw on 17 consecutive plays against the Jets. That’s absolutely absurd for any team that doesn’t have Brees, Brady, or Mahomes. Eventually incorporating Singletary helped us crawl back into that game.

To be fair, at your 2nd point, we don't know how much Allen audibled into pass plays. Many of those 17 started with the Bills in a formation that looked like it was going to run only to split our fullback out wide.

  4. Can someone help me understand something about Rosen? Didn't both he and Mayfield have off behavior concerns prior to being drafted? It seems like since being drafted I haven't heard a peep from Rosen aside from draft night while Mayfield gets into it with media personalities sometimes. Yet despite that it seems if anything Rosen is judged more harshly. Am I totally off base about that? Was Rosen's behavior and attitude just considerably more abrasive?

There must be some correlation from his head to his play. The guy dropped six out of 164 passes his last year of college. Something has changed. Unless eball means mental in, like, an AB way.

He was never going to be a top guy, but he was supposed to be a guy that could find the hole in a zone and move the chains, make contested catches, etc. His scouting profiles all said "strong hands catcher," "physical," "can get YAC," "large catch radius" and so on. We haven't seen any of that. His first two years he wasn't surrounded with good talent, sure, but when given the opportunity he still hasn't proven himself trustworthy at his main job which is to catch the ball.

I think this is possibly what is most frustrating with Zay and other players like him. The potential is there and it has been seen previously. Yet, despite this it has yet to translate. I hope it works out for Zay, he seems like he has been nothing short of a great teammate and likeable kid.

There always seems to be one that we ('ol Irv included) Bills fans pile on the hate.  Beast Mode, Byrd, Gillmore, Dareus, Benjamin, and lately Zay.  All got run.  I wonder if other teams fans have a similar situation every year.

I would add the players who stick around despite this sentiment. Chris Kelsay might be the best example of a player as a TBD whipping boy.

Zays draft spot is the only reason he still has a job, it’s the best thing that ever happened to him.

Had he been a mid to late round pick or UDFA, he would have likely been cut after his atrocious rookie year and off season issues.  And even if he survived that rookie year, he definitely would not still be on this roster today.  Bills investment has given him a longer leash.

Zay has been definitively outplayed in all 3 seasons by other WRs on the roster while also struggling with mistakes, drops, and off field stuff along the way too.

And sorry, but I don’t care where he was drafted.  I care about what he does on the field, and averaging 2.5 rec for 30 yards over 35 games sucks by itself.  But the shaky hands, mistakes, inability to make tough catches, lack of in-game awareness, and general small catch radius are why people are upset with him.  Does not matter to us how he got here, him being a disappointment based on where he was drafted is literally the smallest part to his disappointing story so far.

I think an important caveat though is that Zay might have been our best wr last year as of week 1. Unless you think Andre "1 catch a game" Holmes or KB "Zay tells me where to line up" were better. Technically Foster was on the roster, but he drastically improved throughout the season. Of course the 2nd half with Foster part II and McKittrick we had talent superior to Zay.

I’d love to see @Alphadawg7 exonerated for the crap he took in that monstrosity thread. Maybe we were all hopeful and still unsure earlier in the year if Zay could take the next step and truly be a force here.

We’re all sure now. I’m so sure, I don’t think a trade will happen because he’s only shown to be a liability, regardless of coach’s ‘endorsements’.

I wouldn’t want him if I were coach of the NT Lumberjacks.

I wish I could like your post more than once Chandler. The problem is, if I am quoting Alpha correctly, that most of the board was very respectful in disagreeing, but that there were a few specific posters who most disagreed/antagonized depending on who is framing it. I would love to, but don't know if we will, see anyone own up to that.

There was a similar rankings list on ESPN...they gave Oliver and Singletary the "also receiving votes" category , but they didn't make their "top 10 rookies". No showing at all for D Knox!

We also don't know ESPN's methodology. For all we know one dude ranked the top 20ish rookies hence who received votes. I have to think Oliver, Singletary and Knox would make the top 30-40 which out of 250+ rookies is pretty awesome!

This came out last week and a mod sent it to me via direct message as well as a handful of other posters.  Didn't see them get posted here, but found this interesting.  One thing that stood out to me is that this seems to coincide around the time that Zay's parents got all crazy on twitter.  Maybe Zay found out through his agent that a deal was close and thats why his parents were upset?

Honestly I don't know how accurate this story is as I don't follow the Cold Front to know how credible they are.  But it is interesting the timeline fits for when his parents got weird on social media.

You were so close Alpha!!! So close to being prophetic on here! I know it is hard to tell on a message board and easy to misconstrue words, but I am 100% genuine with being very impressed with your previous analysis on this matter.
