Bills making a playoff run next year?
Vinaccia replied to Joshua25's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's possible I just don't see it happening though. I hope I am wrong but with Brady in the division, I don't see the Bills taking the division. As far as taking the wild card, I think the Bills will go 10-6 and I just don't think 10-6 will be enough to cut it. Look it really all boils down to EJ Manuel. Matt Cassel isn't going to be doing wonders for this team. The third year is the real test, and NOBODY and I stress NOBODY knows exactly what Manuel will bring to the table. As far as from what his teammates say, he has improved a lot. I would love to see him on the offense calling the shots and scolding the other players when they don't perform correctly, but we don't know if he has this mastery of the offense yet. I don't think it was Manuel being buddy-buddy with the players, as CJ would say, as much as it was him not understanding the professional routes and defensive reads, as he was thrown into the starting position without ANY guidance from a veteran or QB coach when every scout out there for the 2013 draft stated he needed time to transition into the NFL. I am really hoping EJ Manuel has his breakout year. -
Let's face it the Giants are suffering at numerous positions, and probably would trade Nassib for the right player, since the co-owner of the Giants has expressed the desire for Eli to retire a Giant. As a result a lot of trade rumor discussions have been brought up regarding trading Nassib. Do you guys think it would be a good fit for the Bills to trade for him? Apparently he can read defenses well and he's been sitting behind a seasoned pro for a couple years now. Would it be worth it to bring him into compete? I'll be honest to say I know nothing about him other than he played well in the preseason without interceptions.

Patience for the 2015 Bills Season - Joe Licata 2016!

I understand, I thought I would just post something a little outside of the box. I am really hoping EJ has his breakout year. -
Patience for the 2015 Bills Season - Joe Licata 2016!
Vinaccia replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With all the talk about the uncertainty of the QB position and the way this quarterback situation is going, I think Joe Licata could be taken undrafted in 2016 and really be a surprise good acquisition for the Bills. We need a guy that has pocket poise, the ability to read defenses, and also has mobility. Look guys, I am not saying he will most certainly be the answer without a doubt in my mind, but I believe he has the drive inside of him, the athletic ability, and the intelligence to surprise everyone at the professional level. The main thing to consider is not looking at the team, but looking at his quarterback ability which has been impressive. -
Although I see your point, at the same time I just see it as job security on his part rather than "quitting". I think there's a case to be made where if you go undrafted, play in the CFL, and then try to be on an NFL team you might just not get selected, and then you would have forfeited your starting job and salary. He has the drive to be a starting quarterback and I wish him well and hope he continues to break CFL records. With this pace he will be topping Ricky Ray's records. Go BILLS and let's hope EJ has progressed to be the quarterback we all have wished for him to be.

Update: Apparently no interest from any NFL organization so Mitchell signed an extension with the Stampeders to keep him in Calgary through the 2018 season. I am not a football scout, but I can't understand why a young successful QB at all levels from high school to the professional CFL wouldn't get a look not even by an organization like the Bills with such a QB situation like that they have. The one year he had left on his contract could have been worked out by the Bills. Upon further researching, CFL organizations are often understanding of players that are going to get a start in the NFL and often waive terms. I can't help but imagine this mobile pretty accurate QB under the Greg Roman offense. Oh well, let's hope EJ can show the world what he's made of and bring the Bills to the playoffs.

Watch, Chandler will make the Pro Bowl next year.

I am with you 100% on Orton retiring and the fact that Orton had poor accuracy and was a below average quarterback. However by decision making, I mean not leaving himself out there to turn the ball over with a sack while running around. Although Orton was not a good quarterback, if he saw someone blitzing through the line more times than not he used to protect the ball and get ready for the sack or simply throw it away. Although admirable, Cassel often doesn't do that and tries to keep the play alive and although a valiant effort, he doesn't have the talent to get the ball to the receiver nor the athleticism to escape the tackle and make the play.

Never suggested that the Bills didn't do their due diligence in choosing the best available. Instead I stated the opposite. Furthermore the small sample size was noted as just examples of non-improvement and the continuation of bad habits over a period of years.
-
I am not one to judge a player based on a few bad performances through a career. But my gosh this QB over the course of his entire career has shown poor decision making as exemplified in these videos that show he hasn't learned from past mistakes. 2009 2011 2014 The sacks aren't just a result of offensive line issues. There are some receivers open and the chance to throw it away if he doesn't see it. Look the point of this isn't to take a look at a few bad plays and label Cassel as a bad QB, but rather to show that the decision making by Cassel did not improve dramatically over the course of his career. Say whatever you will about Orton (I personally was no fan) but it was absolutely rare that he would make such bad decisions unless there was an immediate line break from a blitz. All in all, I think the Bills made the best choice they could but those that are thinking that Cassel will do something impressive should rather be hoping that: 1. EJ is the starter, 2. Cassel can provide veteran guidance to EJ in terms of being a leader, and 3. finally for one WHOLE year, the Bills can see what they have in EJ and put to rest whether they made the right decision or not in drafting him in the first round.

Your next Bills QB will be...the Sanchise.

So after obtaining Cassel does Sanchez still come in? -

Report: Broncos could part ways with Manning
Vinaccia replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Peyton Manning wants to survive after playing, he's no idiot and subsequently won't join the Bills. Joining the Bills would be ONLY be a great idea if he wants to exacerbate prior neck issues! The offensive line is NOWHERE near adequate to protect a pocket QB that is older and more injury prone. Furthermore the only guy on the line that is phenomenal might still have off field issues that won't keep him there long. No, no, no this is neither a good idea nor is it going to happen. -
http://www.stampeders.com/video/index/id/108317/category/1885 Here's some more footage. Look at 2:24... just shows his confidence to stay in the pocket and deliver on the rush as well. I really wish Pegula would make the Stampeders an offer they couldn't refuse. :16 and :36 also show his accuracy and mobility. This guy would be a huge improvement from EJ Manuel. I really like EJ but just wish they would have made him work more on his academics to read defenses.

Just thought I'd add a link to some footage of Mitchell in the Grey Cup CFL championship game: http://cfl.ca/video/index/id/107417watch 3:53 . Look at his mobility, throw, and accuracy under pressure. 1:30 shows his pocket presence and throwing ability. It's hard to get film on him on youtube, so I thought I would throw this out there. Once again I want to note to all the posters that keep reiterating that he is under contract for another year. If a player and his team are willing to both mutually consent to waive the terms of the contract -- it can be done, and for the right price it WOULD be done. You are talking about a team that still has talent without him under center, and with 1 year left on his contract the team would be in a position to get what they could for him while they still could. Believe me, I know my contract law pretty well -- and yes that does mean more than just observations. Look -- I agree that taking any QB out there is going to be a chance, but what I am suggesting is that if you could take a chance on a QB from the CFL that has won everywhere he has played, for money that would not be more than what you are paying for a washed up unsuccessful pro QB, then I think Mitchell is the best choice of all and also the least riskiest. I am not saying that it is 100% certain that all of his success would continue into the NFL, but what I am saying is that this QB has played and won a championship after college in a professional league and is more likely to be successful than others. I think he is the best choice out there if you are really looking to shake things up and get somebody new under center in 2015 that has poise in the pocket, mobility, and passion for the game. Mitchell really exhibits confidence, great athleticism, and has a winning mentality that has worked for him on every team he has been on.

Bills to go in little-talked-about direction at QB?
Vinaccia replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chuck, tell me why you think "Bo Levi Mitchell" is not right for the Bills? Say whatever you want, Glennon can make better throws than EJ. I still think Bo Levi Mitchell would be the best choice however. -

LOL - but in all seriousness, it IS a factor. A "giraffe" like tallness allows him the ability to see over tall defenders to read that field more efficiently. -

I am with you 100% on Glennon. Let's keep in mind the Bucs offensive line was atrocious and he still had a rookie of the month nomination. The main reason why I would believe the Bills would be great contenders with him is that it is full knowledge that the Bills are focused on two main things for the offense. #1 Ground and pound. #2 Beefing up the offensive line which they already started doing. Ground and pound affords a QB like Glennon to be in a situation where the pressure isn't solely on him to produce. It keeps the defense guessing and with such a HUGE variation in the attack, it leaves defenses vulnerable (meaning defenses will have to be on their toes for a long accurate pass or an explosive run). We didn't have this the last few years as we have had subpar quarterbacking which led defenses to just worry about short yard gains. Defenses were rarely surprised and as a result we had one of the worst offenses in the league. #2 Now with Incognito as a guard along with another good guy coming in, we would have quite a weapon at our disposal that is stellar in the pocket and when factoring in extra time with good guards he only is better. If the Bills manage to draft a 6'7 TE in the draft, have Watkins, Woods, Hogan, and Fred Jackson I could see this offense becoming SCARY good. And for your information fellow posters, I am not one of those fans that just analyzes the next year in a untruthful manner simply because I am loyal to my team. I assess my team honestly and then always hope for the best. I said it last year that the Bills had no chance with Manuel and Orton along with a guy in charge that punts on 4th and 1 on their 40. I truly believe if the Bills got Glennon, an oversized TE, and one more guard, this team would be REAL competitors. -
Bills to go in little-talked-about direction at QB?
Vinaccia replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This would make the Bills GREAT contenders. Glennon is one heck of a good young QB. He can make every throw and being a pocket passer, this decreases the risk of having another injury prone QB. He has zip on the ball. If this pans out, my fellow Buffalo Bills fans, get ready for one exciting year of football! -
At the end of the day it's all about getting a QB with skills, that can win, and is respectable and mature in order to represent the franchise. This kid has got it. I guarantee it if the Bills managed to deal for Bo, they would be strong playoff contenders. Signing some chump that never worked out anywhere else will take them nowhere. Bo has been a winner everywhere he has went.

This player is different. On every team he has played on he has won championships. He's young at 24 yrs old and from great football culture. Why be so negative when facts on the individual player point to a positive direction. My gosh, sometimes I think Bills fans just don't want solutions and just outright reject and criticize everything even when the facts point to there being a viable solution at hand.

Bo Levi Mitchell is a young, successful, CFL champion QB. He's 24 years old from the football mecca of Katy, Texas. We all know how competitive Texas high school football is and Bo took his team to an undefeated season and won a state championship. Bo also spent two seasons with the Eastern Washington Eagles and led EWU to its first national title when the Eagles won the 2010 NCAA Division I FCS National Championship with a 20-19 comeback victory over the University of Delaware. Bo was named the most outstanding player and threw 3 touchdowns in the final 16 minutes of the game. Recently last year Bo Levi Mitchell became the starting QB for the CFL's Calgary Stampeders and led them to the CFL championship, the Grey Cup. He had a 98.3 efficiency rating which was the highest in the league. Bo also set a CFL record for the best record for a starting quarterback in league history (12 wins, 1 loss). Bo is also the Championship MVP. As per being under contract with the Stampeders until 2016... Yes the NFL and CFL respect each others contracts and do not permit a player to leave one league for another. HOWEVER, this does not mean that teams can't agree to trades, waiving terms of a contract if the player wants it and the team is willing to allow it, for compensation in another way (receiving more players in return, money, etc.). Simply the Bills could pay a lot for Bo Levi Mitchell and Calgary would take the bait as he is only one more year under contract. They know he is going to leave next year, so I think they would be willing to make a deal on him, when the team can still make out on him. He's Buffalo's QB to lose in my opinion. Let's get this deal done and win some championships guys! We all know the QB is the missing piece on the Bills. Also bear in mind the CFL is no-huddle, up-tempo, fast-paced, throw-the-football type of game. Bo has the experience and QB ability to win a Superbowl. Imagine the legacy of Bo Levi Mitchell with his go to WR Sammy Watkins and coach Rex Ryan.
