Minnesota Police disbanded
BuffaloHokie13 replied to GregPersons's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Again, because it still feels relevant, I suppose everyone arguing that defund doesn't actually mean remove all funding is now okay with defunding planned parenthood. And if someone were to suggest disbanding planned parenthood they are actually just suggesting that their funding go towards standard Healthcare facilities to aid in them offering many of the 'necessary' services that people went to planned parenthood for previously. -
Minnesota Police disbanded

A novel concept, indeed. Can you point me to the folks calling for partially defunding? Surely someone who has been calling for defunding the police has used the word partially, right? -
Trump's leadership team

What's sad is that due to the current political climate around the country, the window is open for people to question this man's achievement and the motives behind it... -
Minnesota Police disbanded

The issue is that the charges were raised from murder 3 to murder 2. The difference between the charges is essentially intent/motive. If they can't prove the motive the dude is going to walk. That said, they did mention a secondary charge of manslaughter, so maybe that is their floor? I'll let the legal folks expand, but it is a mistake to dismiss the motive. -

Latest I've seen is significantly less overlap and possibility of never crossing paths. Might want to look into that further. He didn't even move to Minneapolis until 2014, so definitely not 17 years overlap. -
You seem quite intent on judging an entire group of people based on their skin color... Anyway, slavery probably existed beforehand, but Mesopotamia is typically where people point to. Definitely not the United States. John Bigler was the Democrat serving as governor of California when San Quentin was established as a private state prison in 1852. George W Bush founded ICE. Nathaniel Johnson was the governor of South Carolina when slave patrols were invented there. I think very little of our current law enforcement system is based on any of that. Similarities are likely skin deep, as that's clearly as far as you can see.

This seems to be overblown, but I suppose we'll learn more through the trial. Their overlap of employment was less than a year, ex-officer worked outside security, Floyd worked inside security, and the employer said utilization of both inside and outside was rare and couldn't confirm whether they were ever present there at the same time. -
To kneel or not to kneel...
BuffaloHokie13 replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Had a conversation about this today. I have absolutely no issue with a group taking a knee together in solidarity. If the cops and protestors all take a knee together, that's powerful IMO. But anything one-sided is a big nope from me. -
First of all, defunding Planned Parenthood does not mean they go away. How do you not understand this? It means not giving them billions of dollars to spend when they have absolutely no use for that money (since a lot of it gets donated back to Democrat candidate races), and we need to pay them less. Put that money towards education and infrastructure in towns/cities. Your precious facilities aren't going anywhere, calm the F down. How does that sit?

The commander in chief made a demand and it was defied without consequence? Sounds more like a request.

Did you find this in the police brutality reddit from @Jauronimo? -
Do you think that those protesting are absolutely 100% correct on all of their assertions? Or do you think that perhaps they are mistaken about any of it? If there is a middle ground, then it should be found through an open and honest dialog and assessment of the facts available. A legitimate protest absolutely should start a dialog. Unless you believe that protests are meritless as soon as the protesters concede a single point.

I think he said that the accuracy is debatable, not inaccurate. Isn't that the point? An open conversation on what's truly wrong and how it can be addressed?

As someone who works with DDOT and the district government daily, I don't love that the design obscures the crosswalk designations, but that's admittedly nitpicky.

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

I know you probably don't know, but is that 20M tests administered or 20M people tested? -
So you disagree with everyone who sprays ACAB?
-
Kind of like how they're claiming that they know it isn't all cops while spraying ACAB....
-
Yeah, study I saw had 780 of 812 incidents with the victim as men from 2009-2012.
-
Men make up 49% of the population, but 96% of deaths by lethal force from LE. That's a major discrepancy. Systemic Misandry? Floyd, Arbery, Grey, Brown, Martin, all men...

There is a video in a tweet. I'm pretty sure it was posted earlier in the thread, but I don't have time to thoroughly dig right now.

I agree. The left definitely has a problem with people who think.

Democratic 2020 Presidential Primary Thread

Well that's easy. The United States is institutional racism incarnate, so as long as he addresses the country within the first 100 days he's go tit in the bag. -
I can tell you now, DCRA isn't reviewing or issuing those permits in the current climate. That said, the police can still get a heads up and accomplish the same thing - and I believe that happened for a lot of the protest activities in DC and the surrounding areas (there was a sizeable march in Arlington, VA Sunday which was supported by Arlington PD). Based on the interview, it seems the police were not prepared or notified about the President's shtick and they were relatively disgruntled about it. Doesn't excuse any excessive behavior, but it's more understandable. There's also a lot of misinformation and sensationalizing going on from all sides, which just makes everything worse because people cling to the caricature of the enemy rather than the facts. How are things in Houston?
