The Deep State War Heats Up
BuffaloHokie13 replied to Deranged Rhino's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think he just agreed that the pandemic should not stand in the way of voting -
I suppose this is the new definition of silence, like we redefined defund earlier?
-
But I thought white silence was violence. How am I supposed to listen if I'm being forced to speak? And why am I being forced to speak if my thoughts are useless?

Do any of you NOT use social media?

I have a Facebook that I primarily use for 2 things, photos of family who live far away and organizing group events. I might post 2 status updates a year. I have a Twitter that I primarily use to follow sports updates. I probably average around 8 tweets a year myself. I have an Instagram that I also use primarily for family photos, but of my generation. I've had my account since 2011 and I have exactly 3 posts. My daily average use, per the app, is 1 minute. -
I opened the thread originally thinking it was current news and something terrible happened, but I'm sure you know that.

I worked on a few of the newer buildings in that area! If you're there as we get closer to sports time check out Grand Central -
Terrible title. Please include the date.

What is better, no guns, or more guns?

Current events have pushed me over the edge, and I think I'm finally going to get a gun (two actually). I've grown up around guns (both parents are military, Dad is also police) and I've been shooting regularly since I was little, but I never really felt the need to own one myself. Now, my confidence in police to effectively protect is shaken and I feel the need to be capable of protecting myself. Looking at a handgun and a short barrel shotgun, and open to suggestions. -

The evidence is clear. US Intelligence knew it was cataclysmic 2 months before the WHO even acknowledged human to human transmission, and well before we were ever presented with a sample to examine.

@GregPersons you didn't answer the first question whatsoever. The community involvement suggestions are fine, but they are not the ones reviewing the specifics and determining guilt. You also don't seem to understand the word specific. The answer to what specific policies are negatively impacting minorities is not 'tons'. That's how the problem persists. Pick one specifically and let's talk about it. You couldn't give me your top 3 fascist Trump policies earlier, can you pick 1 current policy that is forcing inflated interactions between black people and police?
-
Your last statement is the actual problem. The number of official interactions is definitely a driver, and trying to imply otherwise is counterproductive. They even go on to muse that there are far too many variables to account for, but insist that racism is definitely the one. It doesn't work logically. I'm more than happy to talk about specific policies that inflate the number of interactions between black people and law enforcement. Are they justified, outdated, working, or just making it worse? That all depends on the specifics of the policy in question. But that isn't a police problem, it's a policy problem. Stop and Frisk is a decent enough example. If you're (you in the general sense) mad at the cops and not Bloomberg then your anger is misplaced IMO. If people want to take steps towards a tangible solution then there are a few discussions to be had: - Who currently holds officers accountable? Why are they failing to do so? Or why is the process not transparent enough that the public comprehends the justification? - What specific policies are negatively impacting minorities? Why? Who is responsible for the policy? Can the policy be modified to function better or should it be scrapped altogether? What are the potential outcomes of outright removing them? Neither of those things involve defunding or dissolving the police. Both allow everyone to provide input without inherent judgement.
-
Maybe you're confused. They're calling 911 to get help with crimes. There are armed guards preventing police from entering the CHAZ. Police don't show, so another 911 call is made. All I'm saying is triple the calls doesn't necessarily mean triple the crimes, considering the setup. Agreed. I'm not arguing they should get response, as the lack is directly caused by them. Just pointing out that 3x calls =/= 3x crimes.
-
Isn't that typically the case? People call 911 to get the police to respond. But there's audio up thread of an officer responding to a call by informing them that it is an autonomous zone and they should call the leadership there instead.
-
I'm not defending the CHAZ, but I would absolutely expect the number of calls to artificially inflate when the response from the police is 'we aren't allowed there' rather than resolving the issue.

I gave you one in post#9 of this very thread. Can you explain why Black officers are more likely to kill unarmed Black men than their white counterparts? I mean, this is about systemic racism born out of white supremacy right? I think we can agree that any interaction with police has a possibility of being fatal. This would make police killings a function of interactions. Police pretty consistently kill 1000 people annually in the US (0.01% of arrests, 0.002% of interactions). That includes all demographics. ~25% of those deaths are black men, yet that same group accounts for 53% of known murders and 60% of known robberies. There is definitely a discrepancy there, but it doesn't support your racism assertions. Quite the opposite. Now if you can get past that assertion and move on towards the idea that, regardless of race, there is an issue with holding police officers accountable for wrongful deaths, perhaps there can be a productive discussion about what is causing the issue and what we as a society can do to remedy it. Based on the stats, I don't think it's the biggest problem out there, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth looking at.

@TakeYouToTasker this you? Lotta similar vibes... admittedly long watch (30 mins) but he does make some interesting points. He's a self-proclaimed anarchist, fwiw.

Isn't the convention in NC? Or did he move it because of Cooper?
