That's all I want. I really hope it's Rosen and would be fine with Darnold. If it's Allen or Baker, that's where granting them some level of trust as a fan comes in. But until the move is actually done, I'm growing increasingly nervous this is all something we've seen far too many times, a regime unwilling to actually pull the trigger when the opportunity hits. If they take a swing and miss, that's entirely defensible, having the guts to go get who you believe is your guy is all I want. But if they sit back on all these picks, watch the Jets make the move up and land a franchise QB, watch Mahomes and Sammy lead the Chiefs to multiple AFC title games or even a Super Bowl and don't finally solve the QB problem we should all get a chance to throw an egg at them.

I completely agree we don't have a great situation here to allow a young QB to succeed. A first year OC, a depleted WR corps, replacing a longtime staple at center, it's not an ideal situation. But Wentz and Goff weren't drafted into an ideal situation and the team aggressively put pieces around them in year 2. Trubisky is in a similar situation. The cap space next year allows us to get our QB this year and aggressively put pieces around him next offseason. Guys are going to be much more likely to sign here if an exciting young QB is in place. However, my faith in Beane & co actually having the guts to put it out there to make the move is waning. Patience is their game, there's something to be said for that, it got McCarron at a much cheaper price than calling him on day 1 would have, I just don't see that winning out when it comes to making a move up.

Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have a glimmer of hope still too. But it's entirely possible the Jets caught Beane in a moment where Beane thought he controlled the negotiations and slipped one past him. Realistically anything is possible. We could have been deep in talks with the Giants and they could have been blown apart by the price the Jets paid. Beane could have called the Colts bluff about pulling the trigger at this point. Beane could be intoxicated by his draft capital and unwilling to pull the trigger until he's 110% sure, yet all the seats could be filled by that point. Anything is in play, but currently the Giants hold all the cards, they aren't going to move down until they are 110% sure the picks are worth the trade out. We all want to hope with the best intentions in the world that Beane has an ace up his sleeve, but right now the most likely scenario is we have yet another regime who is hitching their wagon to another teams backup and overdrafting whatever is left on the board. The Jets are QB desperate, their current regime knows they need a QB or are out of a job. Cleveland is QB desperate, Haslam may nuke the whole thing yet agian if they screw up the position for a 3rd year in a row. Elway is QB desperate, they've swung and missed multiple times and aren't going to just put their eggs in the Keenum / Lynch basket. I get the sense Beane / McD aren't QB desperate. The Bengals putting them in the playoff bought them some goodwill. Because of that, I don't think they are truly willing to pay the price to get an elite guy, I think they have their price on a trade up, but they aren't willing to go the extra step because they are resting on some goodwill and 6 picks in the top 3 rounds lets them swing on a lower tier QB prospect, add a bunch of talent and see what happens. It's clear some fans are fine with that route, if they find a diamond in the rough that's a big win. But I'm increasingly worried those of us who want to see the franchise take a real swing for the first time ever are going to come away disappointed. -
Is there a rush to judgement on Peterman?
Chuck Wagon replied to Sky Diver's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Serious question for the Peterman believers, if he was on another roster and shown exactly what he's shown would you be willing to give a 5th round pick for him? -
Beane doesn't have the guts to go to 2, he's drunk on his draft capital.

5 round mock looks great post Say news

If the Colts wanted the 2019 1st they should have held up on trading 3. Screw them. -
Honestly would rather just dumpster dive then overpay someone to be something they aren't. Maybe we find another Stevie, or maybe we're just the Bears with a terrible WR corps and we roll into next year, either way Matthews or Hurns isn't the answer.

I don't know how anyone can stay optimistic with this franchise. Every day we don't trade up to 2 the likely reality we lost out to the Jets sinks further in. I'm very concerned these guys are going to watch QBs go 1-3, then Baker go somewhere between 4-10, then Miami take Jackson at 11 right in front of them before they turn the card in for Rudolph at 12. That's assuming Beane gets ready to evaluate they QBs they've spent 11 months looking at within the next month.

Great Breakdown on Rudolph and Jackson
Chuck Wagon replied to Scorp83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Literally the worst thing that could possibly happen is drafting one at 12 to just draft one. Frankly, if they are frozen out of the top tier of QBs yet again, I think they need to trade 12 for a 1st next year and a late 1st or early 2nd this year if at all possible. You never know when you get stupid lucky like Cleveland and trade for a top 5 pick next year. If Beane wasn't ready to pull the trigger for 3, that's already on him, but just taking one at 12 just to take one is throwing good money after bad. Not getting an elite prospect after supposedly loading up to get an elite prospect is already a massive failure they'll have to wear if the Giants won't trade the pick. But under that scenario, the best plan of attack is roll whatever we can into next year then try to build the best team around McCarron while using a ~4th round pick on a QB to fight with Peterman. -
Just another regime that got too scared to pull the trigger when it came down to brass tacks. If they had an opportunity to get up and "weren't ready" that's already on them, I really hope they don't compound the problem of previous regimes, think they just need to draft any QB and end up over picking a guy by a round or 2.

Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You touched on it, but I think the current reality is the Giants need to be 100% sure they aren’t in love with one of these QBs before they are willing to deal. Basically we need the Giants to be wrong, not evaluating a guy to be worth it, but turning out that he is. I almost think the best play for us is going up to 4 now, to ensure we get a top 4 QB with the hopes of boxing Denver out should the Giants decide to move. But I tend to believe it’s more of a top 3 of QBs in war rooms currently with Baker closer to Jackson than #3. -

But why? It’s been reported the Jets and Colts have been talking about a trade for months. If we take Beane at face value he wasn’t ready to pull the trigger. All these draft picks would have to be pretty intoxicating. I know we all want to believe Beane is a wizard but in reality he’s the less experienced guy in the club. It’s entirely possible the Colts pick was the only one open for business, they spent a month hoping we would get off the sidelines and we didn’t, now we’ve been frozen out. I have a glimmer of hope we get to 2, but that’s Buffalo fandom in a nutshell, a glimmer of hope that isn’t really happening. The much more likely reality is giving up one extra pick to get to 6-7 and settling for the 4th guy on the board. -
Awesome.

How much it will actually cost to get to #2

12 / 22 / 53 / 56 / 65 / 2019 2nd / 2020 2nd for 2 / 101 / 2019 4th / 2020 4th That's my best offer. That's an unprecedented haul. If the Giants turn that down, you gave it your best shot. -

Darnold is the highest graded QB since Luck. Perhaps you just have a miss-understanding on how these "grades" work. -

So never draft a QB high unless he's a once in a lifetime prospect, otherwise just take QBs in round 6 because of Tom Brady. Thanks for your valuable contributions to the community here. -
Rumor: Trade up discussion with Giants
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. Just looking at averages, of those 5 picks, you are likely looking at 1 pro bowler, 1 guy who is borderline pro bowler / sure starter, 1 starter, 2 busts. That's simply the law of averages of the normal players taken between 12 - 65. If you trust Beane's ability to beat the average, why would you not trust his ability to pick the right QB? -

We GOT extra players in the trade for EJ. Look, no one is saying we are trading up for a sure thing. But to stick your head in the sand and pretend the odds aren't significantly higher to find a true franchise QB at the top of the draft, or to cite clear outliers about the ability to find QBs later, or to even pretend we are trading away sure impact players for a sure bust at QB is just utterly ridiculous. -

I'm not going to let a 30 year old RB prevent me from getting a 21 year old QB. -

It's been 35 years since this franchise took the caliber of player the guys at the top of this draft represents. I really don't understand why some people have determined whoever QB gets picked is a bust. Yes, Ryan Leaf was a bust, 20 years ago. Jamarcus Russell was a bust 10 years ago. Sam Bradford and RG3 got hurt, people get hurt playing football. But Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Wentz, Goff, outside of injuries QBs who are evaluated at the top of the draft aren't a coin flip in terms of succeeding, its ~75% odds you've got a franchise level guy who is the best QB to play the position since Kelly. There's a reason people are going back 20 years to find examples of what goes wrong, they are picking up outliers and trying to paint a picture it's a complete coin flip.
