  1. With the 59th pick in the draft the 49ers are morally obligated to select a pass rusher out of the Pac 12: Rasheem Green, DL, USC @xRUSHx and the Steelers are on the clock.
  2. "But AJ won at BAMA! We need a linebacker! And Guard! Did you hear the Giants are going to trade Beckham, he's good I guess but I don't trust dudes with dyed hair. Maybe Dez Bryant. We need a center, a guard, a RT too, a wr, a backup RB but maybe just bring Freddie back, maybe a holder for those FGs, also DT, linebackers! So many holes! Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell! Tom Brady! Coach will coach all these guys up!"
  3. And won't count as #comppicks
  4. Last year we lost Dareus, Gilmore, Darby, Woods, Watkins, Gillislee, Graham, Aaron Williams, Zach Brown. It's called rebuilding. Rex and Whaley lost control of the team. The inmates were running the asylum. It's a total rebuild with McBeane. If we had gone 3-13 last year more fans would understand what is going on. But because we got buy in from the team, punched above our weight and the math worked to put us in the playoffs people think we should win the Super Bowl in 2 years. I agree. I think they'll be active signing players all summer after June 1 and will present an attractive destination for priority undrafted free agents. The Benjamin trade last year showed they aren't going to be afraid to add talent when a clear need arises. It feels like some people think we are going to show up for day 1 of OTAs with 35 players.
  5. Or the Giants just take Barkley like has been rumored, the Jets take Baker and we are getting teams calling us for extra picks while we decide between Rosen and Darnold.
  6. I don't think anyone is implying any sort of deal is in place. But I don't think they'd be flying to LA if they knew there's no shot at him.
  7. I think the people who are saying it means something are implying that if the Browns are sold on Darnold by this point they would be telling him to shut down visits and especially workouts for other teams. If you are picking the guy you don't want him shredding his knee working out for the Jets or Bills.
  8. Or they covet 12 and 22 like has been rumored and the Bills have told them that's not going to be on the table for pick 4. If the Giants are locked in on a non-QB, there's going to be 2 of the QBs on the board, if Denver doesn't go QB then it really shifts things in the Bills favor for a move up. The Browns could be eyeing 12 to get one of the defensive players and using some of their (as some posters here would say) "way too many picks" to move back up from 22 and get their replacement for Joe Thomas. If the Browns look at it and say "we are equally fine with Darnold and Allen, one of them is going to be there at 4, we can get a much bigger premium for pick 1" they could be swaying towards moving that pick. I don't think the Giants are going to trade. It's just not Gettleman's MO. If the Darnold stuff is legit, it could be the case both the Giants and Bills covet Darnold above all else making a deal between them an essential no go, basically if Darnold is available, the pick isn't and if he's not the Bills feel comfortable they can get a guy they like between the 4-7 range.
  9. I think Woods is 100% legit medically he can't play anymore. I think Richie looked at it as "my friend isn't there anymore, my agents negotiated me a pay cut, this Dr visit didn't go great, I'm done unless they financially make it worth my while". It seems McBeane doesn't mess around with money, it wouldn't shock me if Richie asked for some of this money back and they told him it's not happening. Realistically the guy is going to be 35 before the season. It's not like he had that many more years left. I think it's an emotional guy making an emotional decision, but not some major red flag on how the team is being run.
  10. I really think the Browns are going to take Allen. I think Haley sees Roethlisberger and Dorsey sees Favre. I think they are going to try to sit him all year while Hue and Haley work on him behind Tyrod. I've been convinced the Giants Darnold talk is smoke screen. I think they really want Barkley and are worried about the Browns taking him at 1. Baker is just too classic Jets. I think Rosen is out for them for political reasons, I think Baker has a similar play style to McCown and they want the headlines. I have a gut feeling we'll be trading into the 4-6 range for one of Rosen or Darnold. And it's not going to cost 87 draft picks to do it like some of the Chicken Littles think.
  11. It Brandon Beane traded pick #53 for a 2019 1st round pick, he should just take his balls out and place them on the podium when the trade is announced.
  12. Looking at the realistic players available at 53-56 clears out any hesitation at all on a move up for a QB. Chark and Ragnow are nice pieces, but nothing that's worth not tossing into a deal to get your guy.
  13. We move up to #1 and take Darnold before the Giants can. Giants QB choice is gone at 2, they engage the Browns for a swap of 2 and 4 while picking up pick ~65 Browns take Allen at 2 Jets take Baker 3 Giants take Barkley 4 Broncos take Chubb or Nelson at 5 Colts take Chubb or Nelson at 6 Pats trade to #7 and take Rosen
  14. I wonder if this isn't a positive development for "the process". Without Wood right next to him he was lineup up to be the defacto vet leader for the line. You never know what you are getting with Richie...
  15. I think they are going to get Rosen or Allen and I think the price is going to be a lot more reasonable than the people who rock in the fetal position worrying about holes on the roster are convinced it's going to take.
  16. So a 35 year old guard retires this year instead of next year and it's supposed to blow up our draft plans?
  17. Exactly. Even if there's 2 QBs on the board, once you let it get to pick 7, 8, 9 there's a chance someone else moves up to take one, then the 49ers and / or Raiders don't want to move back, then Miami gets the other one right in front of you.
  18. If Barkley goes #2, I think Beane is going to laugh anyone asking for the 2019 1st off the phone. You think 12 / 53 / 56 for 4 is an offensive overpayment? Look at the board mock draft thread. There's not one player available around 53 I'd hesitate giving up to get our QB. If we can get one of the QBs while holding on to #22 and all our future picks, it's a slam dunk win.
  19. If Barkley goes 2, I think the Browns shop pick 4 hard. If we know they are calling around, I don't think we let someone else make a deal. I would love to hold onto 22 and all our 2019 picks and walk out with Rosen, but I'm not entirely sure if that's realistic. 12 / 53 / 56 for 4 is value for the Browns, they won't get an insane premium, but still get their DB and add 2 more day 2 picks.
  20. One thing for sure, the Giants taking Barkley #2 is best case scenario for us, by far. I'm waiting for Beane to trade just 12 / 22, walk away with Rosen and essentially trade Mahomes and Cordy for Rosen and Tre White. That would make this whole saga worth it.
  21. Gettleman also took McCaffery slightly higher than most expected last year. If he views Barkley's receiving ability to put him on a Marshall Faulk type level, that may be worth not taking the draft picks.
  22. I've thought Darnold was the Giants smokescreen for a while now. Them wanting Barkley makes a lot of sense. Their backs are terrible, if they are committed to Eli he's going to be Eli's best chance at success and I think the Giants want to play the Browns hand into taking their QB #1, instead of taking Barkley 1 and letting the QB fall. If Barkley goes 2, I really see a trade with us and the Browns for #4. That puts the Browns in position to get one of Ward / Fitzpatrick / James and a move to get McGlinchy (if that's their LT of choice). If it plays out like Galko says, the price to move up for one of the QBs could be VERY manageable, with the Browns & Colts fighting to get us to deal with them. Maybe it's overly optimistic, but I think it's certainly feasible we walk out with a top 4 QB and only giving up 12 / 22 / 53. I know everyone mentions Nelson with Denver, but if Chubb is there I have a hard time believing they pass on putting him across from Miller.
  23. Beane could also play the Browns if he knows they value both 12 and 22. If they want him to trade to 4, he can hold out 22 and still beat any offer. For the last week or so I've felt the "needing to trade up to trade up again" was vastly overrated, the Giants could really use a massive influx of cheap young talent across the roster and the Browns need a couple key positions that lack value at 4 and fall outside of their picks in the 2nd round. If the Browns really do have Darnold and Allen equal, I could certainly see them put #1 on the table to get the massive haul.
