Dorsey has said #1 is for sale multiple times. It's possible they've done all their homework and have all 4 QBs graded at a level where they are happy with any one. If that's the case, you are going to trade the pick that gets you the most value back (#1) vs diminishing the value or taking a RB over a "QB trade package". -

I can absolutely buy the Browns saying "we like 3-4 of these guys almost equal, we don't really want Darnold, Buffalo is willing to give up a lot for him, lets just trade them #1, know we are still getting a guy we like at 4 as worst case scenario, then sell the Giants on getting their choice of non-QB to go back to 2". -

That's where I'm skeptical, but it could easily be the work around with Denver not wanting to play ball and the Giants wanting to stay top 5. I'd think the Browns want to hold on to 22 since they have so many other picks and that's more quality, but you could easily give the Giants 4 / 53 / 56 to get their same player. I'm not convinced the Giants would trust the Browns on not getting played, the Browns say "oh yeah, we are totally going QB", flip up to 2, grab Barkley or Chubb knowing it would likely slide at least 1 QB into 6 or later where they can give up a couple picks to go get them from 12. But I could absolutely see a scenario where Cleveland hears or figures we've got a deal with the Giants contingent upon Darnold and just says "we don't want Darnold anyway, we'll just trade you the pick". -

Just some random guy trying to make a name for himself, but I too think some version of this is what happens. I think we have 1 guy (Darnold) we are willing "give up the farm for", it just so happens a visit to see him in LA gets scheduled for this weekend. I think I side on Allen being smoke from the Browns, but I think they like one of if not both of Baker and Rosen. There's no value in taking a guy #1 overall that you can get at 2 or 4 when you know a team will pay a ransom for #1. I think the Giants are legit not going QB. I can believe there's a contingent deal in place with us and the Giants, the Browns might have been looped in or sniffed it out and said "we aren't taking Darnold anyway, trade with us" and remove the contingency. I can absolutely see a trade for #1 getting announced soon if everything goes fine in LA. -

Hanging on to 2019 1st round pick
Chuck Wagon replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would prefer to hold on to the pick if the wheels fall off, but considering how much winning we did with Whitner, Maybin, Spiller, Gillmore, Watkins, EJ, Dareus & McKelvin, I'm not going to let it be a deal breaker. -
Really getting the vibe the Browns aren't in love with anyone at QB. There were rumors Darnold butchered their interview and board session, Baker has the "Manziel" cloud, Allen is Allen, Rosen has supposedly had drama with Dorsey. Wild speculation time, but maybe we've made a very attractive offer to them for pick #1, there's been speculation the hold up on a trade with the Giants is we both like Darnold. Could be the Browns doing due diligence to determine if they could live with as many as 5 of the QBs, which could really open them up for trade down options.

It wouldn't shock me. I think Jackson is higher on team boards than is being reported, I really think his lack of an agent is hurting him when it comes to pre-draft buzz. I'm not sure how much it would affect him when it comes to scouting, but I think the media and fans would view him differently if he was getting the Allen treatment and had Jordan Palmer pumping him up on a media outlet daily. It's tough to gauge with Jackson where he really stands, if he's viewed as a top-10 guy then your approach is legitimate, but if he's viewed as more a mid round guy, I think the way to play it is try to go Barkley 1, Chubb 4, then move up from the early 2nd to get Jackson. It's the Browns though, I wouldn't rule them out from trading 1 or 4, taking one of Baker/Allen/Darnold/Rosen with the pick they keep, then turning around and taking Jackson at 12 with Hue viewing him as an double down at QB who can be used as an "offensive weapon". -

I agree with everything except your last part. I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking Chubb at 5, but they've done their fair share of work on guys in the 12-22 range where they don't currently stand to pick. There was rumblings a couple of months ago they really like Roquan, they brought Vea in, the latest update was they were doing homework on Marcus Davenport. I'm sure they'd love Denver to offer as much as we would and still get Chubb at 5, but I don't think Denver has the capital or willingness to do that. -

My gut says they are pretty close to evenly split on a few of the QBs and badly want one of Chubb or Barkley. The Giants could have them spooked that whichever position guy they want won't be there at 4, so they could just take what's left at QB. The real question would become, is all the Giants interest in Darnold legitimate or is that smoke because Gettleman knows that's Beane's guy and will fetch the biggest price tag. If the original message is to be believed, Darnold could be as low as 3rd on their board, they have a pretty good idea he's gone at 2, the coaches want Rosen and the FO wants Baker, they could just have the Jets make the decision for them. -
I think the inherent problem is if the Giants put that pick up for sale, someone is going up to get a QB. If the pick is available, I think we have to get it to avoid getting locked out. You think it's bad watching the Jets trade up to 3, it'll be real bad if we hold out on trading for 2 and the Dolphins or Pats go get it. I think if Darnold is on the board that's how the Giants get the best offers from every team. But I think there's 2 QBs we'd be willing to go get, we just aren't going to offer as much for a non-Darnold choice and the rest of the league will likely operate the same way.

I don't get trying to pimp his value to other teams, that's not going to affect how other teams operate. I do see floating his name to get your fans hearing a different name other than Darnold. Dorsey was hot on Baker back in January and that quieted down quick. If they are going the analytics route, Baker is the clear winner in that regard, but with local media (Tony Grossi) going on a "Manziel" comparison crusade that's really going for boom or bust and outside of a traditional pick. Honestly if there's one franchise in the league I think could actually consider going with the position player at 1 and taking whichever QB is left at 4, it's the one in position to do it. -
Not sure why people think Mayfield can’t fall to 12

You are right. I just remember the "Dolphins decided to go in a different direction after Bills loss" thread, but there are numerous quotes from Gase and Ross they aren't rebuilding (they are just getting rid of all their talented players). -

Want to get real into the weeds.... I wonder if the Browns and Bills haven't had a conversation. I think it's pretty safe to say we want Darnold. I think the Browns want that #2 pick traded before they draft. I think there's a chance they've told us we can have Darnold if we go up and get him, something along the lines of "go to #2, we'll then flip 1 and 2, you give us back our Tyrod pick, you get Darnold, we'll take Rosen/Allen/Baker and save a little bit of money". That could be the catalyst behind the trip to LA. -
The McBeane Character Requirements...
Chuck Wagon replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the locker room was a mess under Rex and they aren't at the point where they are so concerned with results they'll roll the dice on risky players. I believe the risk profile will open up if 1) they are sure they've got the clubhouse chemistry locked in and see extra talent that will push over the edge or 2) the losses start to mount and they increase their risk profile to add talent to the team. -

They said it's a complete rebuild. They can't have much faith in Tannehill staying healthy. I don't think they are actively going to move up for a QB, but if the opportunity rises I think they'll take one. -

The Dolphins have been very public about their affinity for Baker. Gase isn't afraid of QBs with big personalities. He's not falling to 12.
