Should we sign DeMarco Murray?
Chuck Wagon replied to TheBillsWillRiseAgain's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it's a deal that we can easily dump should he get hurt or fall off, then I think he should be a top priority. Sign him, build up our line and feed him the ball 400 times a year with Fred-Dixon-Bryce for situational subs. -
3 Rules I want to see changed based on Yesterdays Games

I completely agree on the "Overtime should be a full period" front. One full period, if it's tied after that then it goes to sudden death. -

FA shopping list, Who would you choose
Chuck Wagon replied to JeebusCrust's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Julius Thomas isn't worth the money. The guy can't stay on the field and can't block. Get Iupati or Boling, I'd expect that would really help Glenn & Wood. I want to see Kouandjio moved to RG, I don't see him ever being able to handle NFL speed rushers at LT. Boling is only 25, a Glenn-Boling-Wood-Kouandjio-Henderson line could grow together and become something really special. I wonder how much Demarco Murray will cost, sounds like he's done in Dallas, if we could sign him to a deal that's easy to dump if he breaks down I would not mind seeing us build our offense around him with Jackson-Brown-Dixon to spell him situationally. -
Nate Silver's 538 QB Analysis - Is EJ a Game Manager?

When I saw that Luck and Schaub are supposedly on the same tier I thought it made a great case for the worthlessness of stats without context. -

Unbelievable. Unbelievable he would have that much of a spectale to announce he's staying. -
QBs Matter, Not Defenses (Sort of)
Chuck Wagon replied to timstep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What's the difference between Tom Brady and the Ryan Leafs / Jamarcus Russells of the world? It wasn't the team they were drafted by. Pure and simple to be a great QB in this league you need all the physical tools, but you also need to have the edge where you will be the hardest worker in the building, you'll be the first one in and last one out every single day, you need to go home and watch more tape, not be out late on Friday nights. Brady, Peyton, Rodgers, Luck were gifted with great physical tools, but they are also hardcore workaholics who shut out the rest of the world for at least half the year in the interests of getting better at their jobs. No one accidentally becomes a great NFL QB. -

I do think an argument can be made that the Daltons-Cutlers-Kaepernicks of the world are by far the worst players to have on your roster. Their performance vs what you can get out of a guy like Orton, Hoyer, EJ, Matt Moore is simply not worth the extra ~$15 mil of cap space they require. Give me 2-3 extra good starters and Hoyer over Dalton or Cutler. -
QBs Matter, Not Defenses (Sort of)
Chuck Wagon replied to timstep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pointing to Dilfer as trying to prove you can win with a subpar QB is asinine. First off, that was one of the best defenses of all time. Second, that was 14 years ago. The rules have changed dramatically. QBs are almost untouchable now and WRs can't be hit until they've been allowed to come down with the ball. If someone doesn't understand why those things would increase the need for a legit QB there's no purpose in arguing with them, pure and simple they don't get it. -
OSU's Cardale Jones considering NFL jump
Chuck Wagon replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's the Browns, its more like: "We need to announce a trade, The Browns have traded the 12th pick, 19th pick and a future 1st round pick for the 3rd pick. With the 3rd pick in the draft, the Browns select Cardale Jones, QB, Ohio State" -

OSU's Cardale Jones considering NFL jump
Chuck Wagon replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd take him in the 2nd round without thinking twice. If we are going to a power offense, he could be a fantastic fit as his arm should open things up just like it did during the Buckeyes run. Smash mouth football with Cardale launching bombs to Watkins and Woods could look very nice. -
NFL Network coverage of the Hiring of Rex
Chuck Wagon replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Denver is no guarantee to be good next year given Peyton could easily walk away. If they've got Osweiler under center all year they are going to be hard pressed to be in wild card contention, pushing 1 of KC or SD into the division winner spot. As Section122 said, the AFC North's schedule was a joke this year. That allowed them to put 3 teams into the playoffs. Add in Pitt looks to be undergoing a complete overhaul defensively and it's not unrealistic to think they could fall out of the hunt. Last year the Steelers played the teams picking 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 12 x2, 13, 16, 18. In their 6 games against playoff teams, they played Carolina, Bengals x2, Ravens x2 and Colts while the Bengals and Ravens got the same schedule bump they did. -
I have a friend who played for the Jets under Rex, it's not media hyperbole to say his players love him. It'll be a 180 in that department from Doug. I was sold on Rex 2 weeks ago, nothing he said yesterday sold me more, but it also did not ease any concerns on the offensive side. I don't buy bringing in Gase, Pep Hamilton, McDaniels or Kubiak is going to suddenly turn us into a 35+ ppg powerhouse and none of those guys is going to take a bum QB and polish him into a diamond. Most of the league has coaches with defensive backgrounds, McCarthy is the only guy with an offensive background still coaching this weekend and all of the hires so far have been defensive guys. More to the point, "geniuses" like Billick and Martz really struggled offensively when they didn't have Randy Moss, Cris Carter, Marshall Faulk and Torry Holt around anymore. I believe a brilliant defensive mind can scheme around inferior players, but when it comes to offense it's all about the "Joes" not the "Xs & Os". On top of it, our last 2 coaches were offensive guys, under Chan our defense was terrible and under Doug our offense took huge steps backwards. This isn't college, you aren't going to turn an average QB into a pro bowler just because the WRs run creative routes or you snap the ball fast between plays.

Rex explains why he freed Schwartz to go elsewhere
Chuck Wagon replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wish we had gotten something for Schwartz. Even a 4th round pick to replace the one we lost from the Watkins trade would have been nice. Should have allowed him to interview elsewhere then ask for compensation when an offer came in. -

I don't have a problem with swearing, but I am happy to see this board has standards. Take a peak at the Browns board (thebrownsboard.com) and there are posters who can't articulate a thought unless the F word appears every 3 words. -
This is too funny.... Marrone trys for Jax OC
Chuck Wagon replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's what I think too. He's poisoned the NFL well now. Pros will buy into the tough guy act for a couple of years but even with major success it gets old real fast. That's why Harbaugh flamed out in San Fran and why Parcells frequently jumped around. GMs aren't going to hire a guy with a reputation of being difficult to work with, especially when he walked out on his chance and was below .500 as a coach. I don't think Bradley's seat is that hot. The Jags GM was on NFL radio the other day talking about the commitment they made to rebuilding with youth a few years ago and talked about how there's full faith in Bradley and understanding it's going to take a while as there was no talent on the roster 2-3 years ago. Unless Bradley starts something like 0-10, I'd be very surprised to see him replaced mid season. St. Doug is going to need to go back to college. It's a lot easier for the Iowa/Oregon St./Virginias of the world to sell a guy as rebuilding Syracuse and being a NFL head coach and it's a lot easier for St. Doug's act when he's recycling through entire teams every few years. Unless he makes Blake Bortles into Peyton Manning, the days of NFL HCDM may very well be over. -
OSU's Cardale Jones considering NFL jump
Chuck Wagon replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ridiculous to state he didn't make any reads. The oline played so well he didn't need to make any quick hot reads, but saying he didn't /can't read a defense is foolish at best. I also agree he'll be the starter next year. If all 3 come back I expect Braxton will be used as an offensive weapon, Cardale as the starter and JT as the backup. JT really struggled against a few teams (Penn St, Indiana) last year and Cardale's arm opens up so much more of the field than the other 2, which is deadly with how good the line is and guys like Elliott, Marshall, Thomas and potentially Braxton. -
Who will the Bills bring in at QB?
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sold on Mariotta being the sure thing "top 2 pick" everyone has him billed as. I think teams have major concerns and it would not be a surprise if he followed the path of other "sure top 2 picks" like Johnny Football and Brady Quinn with a bit of a wait in the green room, after which Chip comes up to get him. I still think Rivers may be more available than people realize given his age and contract situation (FA after next year). I'm not saying we have the amo to get it done, but it wouldn't shock me if San Diego decided to take some draft picks instead of giving Rivers a $100+ mil deal he starts at age 34-35. -
True cost of Bills' Watkins trade
Chuck Wagon replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Would people really rather have Ebron + 19th pick in the draft or Watkins To me the choice is pretty clear. ODB is revisionist history, no one knew he'd be that good otherwise he would have gone higher. Just a hunch, but I imagine the Lions (who also loved Sammy) would not think twice before trading Ebron and their pick (#23) for Sammy. That Gilbert looks like a potential whiff and that the Browns are making the pick at 19 just adds to the entertainment. The bottom line is the trade isn't going to cost us a franchise QB we would have taken (I'd be very surprised if Whaley would take another project QB at 19 and that's what would be there). Sammy looks legit and will grow as he's in the league more and we gave up a pick that's as likely to bust out of the league as it is to yield a 10 year starter. -
My predictions at this point: Quinn - Falcons HC Schwartz - Giants DC Fox - Bears HC Lebau - Cardinals DC Kubiak - Broncos HC Del Rio - Oakland HC I really have no clue where Marrone ends up and who the 49ers (I haven't heard ANYTHING about their search) hire
