Browns offer Tennessee 2 1sts for #2 pick
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the price was 2 1st (including #19) then the 2nd pick would belong to Philly. It's going to be #12, #19 & the '1st in '16, perhaps with conditions on it (ie not top 5). -
If I'm the Titans, I tell the Browns to keep #19, I want #12 and their '16 & '17 1sts.

When I think of Marrone's take on players I picture Mike Singletary's press conference saying he couldn't win with the guys Jim Harbaugh took to 3 straight NFC title games.

For those who wonder about the Wonderlic
Chuck Wagon replied to Mij yllek's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fitz was so smart we can't even understand what he was really doing. He was borrowing the Ali "Rope a Dope". By throwing backbreaking game losing interceptions, he was really just boosting the confidence of the defensive players to the point they underestimated his ability, then he'd have them right where he wanted them. We just didn't keep him around long enough to show the fruits of his labor. Maybe the fans in New York will have more patience when he executes his brilliant master plan of throwing game losing interceptions. -
Michael Irvin butt-hurt that top QB's are skipping draft
Chuck Wagon replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really wonder how much the location plays into this. Short of Joe Thomas (who is just wired differently than most guys), I struggle to come up with many high profile guys who skipped the draft in NY, certainly no year like this year. My concern with the draft moving is if you get years where the draft is in a "cool" city like Miami or LA and 100% attend followed by years the draft is in Buffalo or Green Bay and you get a 50% attendance rate. -
Teams trying to trade for Mo Wilkerson
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If true, the Browns make a lot of sense. Pettine knows Wilkerson, they are looking to upgrade their DL and have a war chest worth of draft picks to make a move. Wilkerson is certainly better than any DL they are realistically looking at with pick #12, that gives the Jets the ammunition to move up for Mariota or allows them to take Leonard Williams if he falls to #6 and another piece at #12. -
Bring Back Spikes--edit signed with ne***
Chuck Wagon replied to billsgpr88's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It feels good to be building a team that seems designed for WNY after years of watching Coy Wires and Roscoe Parrishes run around and get punched in the mouth. Both New England and Seattle's offenses are rooted in the "ground and pound" (Denver and San Fran's are as well), Seattle complements their ground and pound with the zone read plays from Wilson and frequent deep shots, New England complements theirs with quick plays to get Edelman/Vereen/Amendola type guys in space and Gronk in the seam. Given our personnel, if we play EJ or Taylor at QB we are set up well to use both elements from the zone read game and getting Sammy/Percy out in space, with Clay and Woods stretching the field vertically. The Indy / Green Bay style spread offenses look cool on video games and sportscenter, but each of them has straight up gotten punched in the face by more physical teams with no ability to answer each of the last two postseasons. Chan's offense scored points, but we could not control the game to keep our defense fresh and we couldn't close out games. I do worry we might be one big back short (unless Bryce Brown changes his game), I appreciate all Fred has done for us, but with what we want to do it seems his spot should be going to a true 230 lbs bruiser (I don't think Dixon has the second gear/foot work to really fill that role but he's very valuable on special teams). -

Blows my mind people don't understand this. They understand enough to know that guys we lose = comp pick but they don't know guys we resign doesn't affect anything. Whaley is waiting for his price to go down to that of a part time player. Spikes thinks he should be compensated as a full time starting Mike. Teams are in a holding mode until after the draft to spend any more significant cap space. It has absolutely nothing to do with our comp pick formula. -
I miss Mayock on Thursday night football, he blows Phil Simms away. Anthony was my Bills pick in the contest, interesting to see him placed exactly at 50. I'd love to get one of the 3 down linebackers in the 2nd then go oline in the 3rd, if we've scouted correctly we can get a quality guard/tackle there.

Will you watch the 1st round of the NFL Draft?
Chuck Wagon replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Absolutely. As for the format, I kind of like the new streamlined format. I think people are looking back with nostalgia and forgetting how brutal some of those 5-6 hour 1st rounds used to be. It was ridiculous to give teams 15 minutes per pick and even more ridiculous when teams would take the entire 15 minutes after months of scouting. Now the 1st round is a nice tight tv product that fits into Thursday primetime, you get a day to refresh on Friday before rolling strong into the 2nd and 3rd while Saturday is still a day for the diehards like the old Sunday was. Plus you get a day of your weekend back to enjoy the spring weather or make sure your wife/girlfriend doesn't put you in the dog house. -
Bandit's Annual Mock - Review and New Round 2 Added!
Chuck Wagon replied to thebandit27's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thoughts on yours (thoughts on mine). I did a 5 round mock that I finished last week. I'll spare everyone the details as I don't know I have the cred built up to make my own thread to post my own thoughts yet. Completely agree on the Falcons - Raiders trade for Atlanta getting Fowler. I mocked the same last week then was pretty thrilled to see stories starting to come out about it being legit in the last few days. Atlanta is an aggressive team and the Raiders under McKenzie always seem to want to move to pick up more picks. I would be shocked to see Grayson and Petty go that early. Not saying it couldn't happen, just saying I'd be shocked. I really don't see the Gurley - Miami connection, agree with others that say smokescreen. Lamar Miller is coming off a 1,000 yard season and he's only 24, Miami had to do a lot of roster trimming to fit Suh in and Gurley feels like a luxury they can't afford. From what I've read from the tea leaves, the shine appears to be off Landon Collins a bit as teams are concerned about his versatility, if a team is taking a safety that early they want a lot out of them while Collins is a traditional in the box guy. -

Looks like Tarzan.... -
Now that we traded Kiko for a RB and gave that RB a big contract extension, it kind of hurts to see him 2 picks before Le'Veon Bell. Also hurts seeing Dustin Hopkins right before Latavius Murray and Andre Ellington Given it's the Browns, I still have faith that'll be a deal people will look back on in 6 years and say "The Browns traded Sammy Watkins for 2 guys who are out of the league?!"

He needs to hold the ball higher and his release is way too long. On a bit less sarcastic note, I always thought his best position would be as a defensive end/edge rusher, especially if he's actually around his rumored weight of 280 lbs, but he's basically said he was too much of a prima donna to play defense and needed the ball.

What change would you make if you were commissioner?
Chuck Wagon replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This may be one of the more radical ideas, but I'm intrigued at the idea of hitting the reset button on divisions to have them make more geographical sense and create some new rivalries. Here's my new divisions: AFC East (Replace Dolphins with Giants, Giants have SB history with both Pats & Bills and have an intense natural rivalry with Jets) - Jets Pats Bills Giants AFC North (Ravens are good rivals with Browns & Steelers so that and the NFC East might be the biggest losses of rivals, but given location and Andrew Luck Colts might quickly get things brewing) - Bengals Browns Steelers Colts AFC South (A radical change with Falcons, Bucs, Titans and Texans switching conferences, but turn this one into the Florida + Georgia division) - Falcons Buccaneers Jaguars Dolphins AFC West (Swap Rams & Chargers, Rams gain a nice strong natural rival with Chiefs)- Broncos Raiders Chiefs Rams NFC East (Ravens should make for nice quick rivals with the Eagles and Redskins, Panthers are a random fit anywhere)- Eagles Redskins Ravens Panthers NFC North (the only division that really makes sense already) - Bears Packers Vikings Lions NFC South (Cowboys & Saints already have a pseudo rivalry, Texans - Cowboys is a natural one as well, Titans stay with Houston for the old Oilers rivals) - Saints Cowboys Titans Texans NFC West (both Rams & Chargers feel a bit random in their divisions, swapping them feels more natural)- Seahawks 49ers Cardinals Chargers -
The rest of the Chargers roster is garbage now, he's still bringing them to levels we haven't seen in 15 years. Some of those teams with Tomlinson, prime Gates and Vincent Jackson chronically underachieved, but frequently had injuries hit at the wrong time. The last few years the Chargers talent level has been very low, look back at their drafts starting in 2007 and there's a lot more whiffs than the normal team. Rivers has been the only thing keeping them from not being Jaguars level bad.

I'd say at least 7 OL (Scherff, Peat, Collins, Erving, Flowers, Humphries, Fisher) will almost surely be gone before we pick at 50. Another batch (Clemmings, Cann, Tomlinson, Marpet, Tre Jackson, Grasu) are all in play to be gone before 50 or go right around there.

What Would It Take To Get Mettenberger?
Chuck Wagon replied to Flip Johnson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They'll keep Mettenberger. Best case, they repeat what the Chargers did with Brees & Rivers. ZM is dirt cheap and they can allow Mariota to develop while ZM plays, if Mettenberger flames out they plug Mariota in, if he doesn't they've got a decision to make. -
Would I trade EJ and all our picks this year (a 2nd, 3rd, and some junk picks) for Rivers? You bet. Can't see the Chargers making that move.
