2016 Draft Analyst/Expert Mock drafts and Big Boards
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kiper and McShay readily admit no one can predict who is drafting who. Their target (especially this early) is to get guys in the right range of where they are picked. Even then, you can find plenty of instances where they've had guys going top 5 in Jan-Feb who end up in the 2nd round or later (it's a bit hard to find though as ESPN tends to bury their content where their experts were really wrong). -

Megatron to retire? (Update- he is done)
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Calvin certainly has the production to merit HOF consideration, but the longevity and lack of playoff production will be the stumbling blocks in his way. Had he played 2 more years at the level he did last year his numbers would be pushing the top 10 for receiving yards and he'd likely have a more open and shut case. His 2012 season was one of the best receiving seasons ever. -
Eagles OT signs extension - Glenn could be similar
Chuck Wagon replied to jahbonas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Was going to say exactly this. I'm guessing asking out of the Redskins game when he was fine is going to doom Peters' tenure in Philly. -
Who needs Keuchly where you were getting Andrew Sweat and Etienne Sabino?

Bell is a Groveport kid, but I agree with that. ESPN tells me Kato Mitchell had 1 catch for 5 yards in 2013 against Florida A&M (a 76-0 win). I'd love to meet Kelly, but not for that price in that type of situation. I think these types of things are a little bit sad, especially for guys like Kato Mitchell. I met Chris Fields once at Buckeye Corner, he had a table set up and no one was even acknowledging him. I talked to him for a little bit about him trying to catch on with a NFL team, then he said "you want a picture, it's just $20" and I said "thanks, but I'm good, good luck".

http://goldstarsportsmarketing.com/Events/ Nearly $150 to get a signed picture of Kelly.

RT is the one spot I'd look to fill in FA. There's a handful of guys (Schwartz / Beachum / Barksdale / Osemele / Andre Smith) available who would be an upgrade over our in house options and I'm not overly thrilled with the prospect of using a 1st or 2nd round pick on a RT.

Are College Offenses The Future of The NFL?
Chuck Wagon replied to john_bult's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is pretty much what I was going to say. It seems there's a disconnect between what people consider a "college" offense. The "Oregon Spread" is basically an evolution of the old Nebraska wishbone, the QB has just a few set reads in both offenses and athletic defensive lineman can usually wreck havoc on it (a big reason why Oregon has struggled in big games). NFL teams aren't going to purely run that system, though variations have been effective when run by guys like Cam / RG3 / Kaep. But those guys are at the tip of the athleticism scale. The "Purdue Spread" isn't that far off the K-Gun and the Oilers run and shoot. That's absolutely here and here to stay. Teams already make heavy use of "college" principals like the bubble screen and get the ball to their guys in space. Watch a guy like Demaryius Thomas, Denver almost uses him as a running back on a lot of the routes he runs. Due to the rules in place and the athletes defenses are able to field, the days of a pure old school "ground and pound" NFL offense are nearly dead. Teams like Seattle still use a lot of it, but they succeed because Wilson can make so many things happen with the ball and they really took off this year when they abandoned a lot of the old principles the used with Lynch. NFL offenses aren't moving away from the QB taking a snap under center and running straight ahead with a fullback because college isn't producing QBs with that skill set. They are doing it because it's really hard to run the ball that way anymore. Defensive linemen are bigger/stronger/faster than ever before, offenses need an element of surprise and multiple options more than ever. -
19: R1P19 ILB REGGIE RAGLAND ALABAMA 49: R2P18 S VONN BELL OHIO STATE 80: R3P17 WR WILL FULLER NOTRE DAME 114: R4P19 WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON MISSISSIPPI STATE 144: R5P17 K ROBERTO AGUAYO FLORIDA STATE 174: R6P17 DE BRONSON KAUFUSI BRIGHAM YOUNG Would have liked to get another Dlineman or Olineman, but Ragland - Bell would likely be plug and play starters, Fuller gives a deep threat at WR while Wilson is a bigger guy (and both felt like steals in those rounds). Took Aguayo in the 5th because he's a stud and I'm tired of missed extra points.

49ers Hire Chip Kelly as New HC
Chuck Wagon replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chip needs a mobile QB. He was able to get away with it with Foles - DeSean - Shady because Foles to DeSean was one of the best deep connections in the league that year and Shady could make up for more on his own than Murray could. With Bradford and the receivers they had there was zero threat of Bradford running and very little vertical threat as well. -

So apparently it only took 1 Tomsula season for the leadership to change their stance on A-Hole head coaches who lack people skills. -
How long before Sexton drops Marrone as a client?
Chuck Wagon replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well it only takes 1 guy to offer you a job. If Sexton is at 3% commission he'd be in line for roughly $500K if St. Doug got a 4 yr / $16 mil deal. Getting a well known guy into the room seems worth the effort for a potential $500k return. -
Johnny Manziel (update: waived by Browns)
Chuck Wagon replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The difference is Brett Favre grew up in a small town with teachers for parents. He was suddenly in the "big city" with a little bit of money. Johnny has had a silver spoon in his mouth his entire life. He's never had consequences for his actions, he was an idol at a SEC school at the age of 19. For all we know he's purposely forcing his way out of Cleveland. Now maybe if he's been forced to slum it in the CFL for a couple of years and we give him a shot to get back in the league he might be a changed guy, but partying to get himself out of Cleveland and then handing him another job right away isn't changing anything. -
Schefter brought up a good point on M & M this morning. Gase and Jackson interviewed for almost every job last year but ultimately were left holding the bag. It's likely not a coincidence those two took the first two jobs they were offered opposed to allowing the process to play out and getting left out again.

Tyrod Taylor: PFF Breakout Player of the Year
Chuck Wagon replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Health is my primary concern with Tyrod. I just don't see how he last 16 games most years. I would love to get him a big WR like Treadwell or a vertical threat like Fuller in the 1st - 2nd round, he throws such a pretty deep ball and it's lost on guys like Woods / Hogan. -
Johnny Manziel (update: waived by Browns)
Chuck Wagon replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rather have EJ. I still think Kaep makes a lot of sense for us. Mobile QB, Roman knows him as well as anyone, we can give him time to get his head right and develop properly and we are going to need a competent backup with Tyrod's style. -
I would be really surprised if Jackson is taking the job if he has to defer to Sachi when it comes to football decisions.
-
If the Browns are giving him final say over the roster he's not the desperate one.

I know Davis has expressed several times about the Raiders having no interest in moving to St. Louis, but in my mind that's the ideal solution. The Raiders brand is about as known as anything but the Cowboys and they have fans all over the country, the fans of St. Louis would be grateful for the move. Add in the Raiders - Chiefs rivalry would be turned up significantly if it's a Kansas City - St. Louis rivalry. Embrace the stadium project, waive the relocation fee for them and give them a golden parachute to move there.

Bills sign Greg Little along with Jarrett Boykin
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Semi serious question, but why doesn't Little try to go back to being a RB? He was a RB in high school and his first couple of years in college, the dude can't catch well enough to be a NFL WR, but clearly he's got physical tools to keep getting signed. -
[closed]Help me understand that LA Situation
Chuck Wagon replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rams - Kroenke is going for the money grab of having a team in LA. He owns some prime real estate already for a NFL stadium and if he's putting up his own money to build it he wants it in LA instead of St. Louis. Chargers - You are right on, they are panicked about another team moving in and eating into the fanbase they've established in LA. There's also no money coming from San Diego to build a stadium. Raiders - Being the Raiders, they don't want to build a brand new stadium across the bay from San Fran's new stadium and would like to share the space with the Chargers. The Broncos and Chiefs are said to be against the Raiders/Chargers sharing a stadium as it ultimately amounts to an extra home game for each team every year. Personally I think the Raiders would likely go wherever someone would give the most money to build a stadium. I know their ties are with Oakland-LA but IMO they've make a lot of sense to move them into a new stadium in St. Louis. In a nutshell, the Chargers and Raiders want a new stadium and don't want to pay for it. If someone is moving to LA Kroenke wants to be the one to cash in on it. -
I'll admit to being intrigued by Trevone Boykin. Most think he's not a NFL QB but may be able to play WR, with his arrest prior to the bowl game he may have completely tanked his stock. I'm not 100% convinced he can't play QB, his build is pretty similar to Tyrod's and prior to his injury this year he looked like a human video game on the field. I wouldn't complain about taking him very late or undrafted to give him a shot in camp or see if his athleticism can translate him into a "slash" role.

2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class Announced
Chuck Wagon replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kevin Greene is 3rd all time in sacks....... I think Greene / Favre / Warner / Pace will make it. There's been a recent emphasis on WRs because there's a bit of a log jam, so that could help Harrison (or TO). I do wonder if Harrison's involvement in the supposed murder investigation and that he's disappeared a bit since that incident will harm his inclusion.
