That line is sooo sooo bad. Siemien looks figured out as well, a lot of his throws made Peyton look like he had a cannon last year. My personal favorite was Nantz asking Simms if they were in hail mary position around midfield. Simms kind of chuckled and said "yep, no problem", then Siemien looked like he threw it as far as he could and it came down at the 10 yard line. The Broncos don't look like a team capable of winning 10 games. They needed a Gano missed FG to beat Carolina and that was with some generous officiating in regards to their treatment of Cam. Luck & Dalton had meltdowns that played into their hands and they beat Tampa, who is just bad. With the Pats and 4 games against the Chiefs and Raiders left, I'm not sure I see them going 6-4.

Art Briles makes Chip Kelly look like Einstein when it comes to offensive design. Given Chip's spectacular failure, I can't imagine how Art's system of having WRs completely take plays off and only having one target in a route would actually have any success. Does not seem worth the media circus at all. The real amazing thing in all of it is the mental gymnastics Browns fans can perform on themselves. "This regime trading down in the draft is totally different than the last 6 regimes doing the same thing".

In prime time in Seattle? The league pretty much stopped giving the Seahawks home prime time games for a couple of years because it was too big of advantage for them. A Patriots "revenge" game, a prime time game in Seattle and the Steelers, who always have our number, are very tough tasks. As for the Raiders & Bengals, I agree with the consensus on those games. However, the Raiders have been worse at home than on the road the past few years and that crowd might be hostile to the home team depending on how things progress with Vegas. As for the Bengals, something seems off with them, they've been blown out 3 times already and looked primed to get it again Sunday, it seems that after their disappointing playoff loss last year it may be time to move on from the Lewis era.

Can Chip shake **** this year?
Chuck Wagon replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The national media is far too busy debating the Romo or Dak decision that's a month away to focus any time on Shady vs Chip. -
I believe the 49ers are the worst team in football, even worse than Cleveland. The Browns are all fighting because no one wants to go 0-16, but the 49ers look like they removed that monkey off their back in week 1 and now can take the rest of the year off. Losing Bowman looks like the final straw for them. They are coming off a long week, but it's a cross country game for a 1 pm kickoff.

Football Outsiders Updated Playoff Odds
Chuck Wagon replied to Chuck Wagon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is not point of conversation if we don't win the next two. But if we do, the Bengals and Raiders games might be the games of the season. We are already down the head to head tie breaker with Baltimore, we can't afford to be down that with Oakland and/or Cincy as well. Win the next two, then 3 of 4 against the Browns / Jags / Dolphins / Jets and it's 8 wins, 9 with the right tie breaker should put us solidly in the conversation. -
What Happens When You Actually Draft a QB Every Year
Chuck Wagon replied to Tenhigh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Unless you are "moneyballing" like the Browns and giving away elite top of the draft talent so you can pick in the 4th round a few extra times, the simple economics of the game make it extremely difficult to use picks in the 2nd/3rd/4th round on QBs every single year. Cheap talent is the lifeblood of every successful franchise, it's a game of attrition and there's always someone like the Jaguars or Saints willing to pay marginal starting talent in the free agent market. What are the odds of a QB hitting after the 5th round? Looking around the league, it's pretty low, and it's obvious at this point that Brady is an extreme exception not any sort of rule. Outside of the Cam Newton "Freaks of Nature", young QBs best chance of success is a system that fits them and an opportunity to learn, which is extremely hard if you are just tossing them out with the bath water every year. The teams that "draft a QB every year" are the Jets and the Browns, both of those teams have no depth and have developed no young QBs. -

Buffalo Bills (3-2)Odds of making playoffs: 58.3 percent With three straight wins, the Bills' playoff odds have climbed from 14.8 percent to 58.3 percent, and they now rank in the top 10 of our DVOA ratings. The rematch with the Patriots in three weeks will be hugely important; the Bills win the AFC East in 58 percent of simulations in which they win that game. Baltimore is the "first wild card team out" at 42% odds while KC is next at 39.5% odds.

Kaepernick to start on Sunday
Chuck Wagon replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kaep does not scare me one bit. Hypothetically he's a perfect fit for Chip's scheme yet Chip stuck with Gabbert until he had no other choice but to make a move. The 49ers are hot garbage, losing Bowman was the straw that broke the camel's back, Chip will be the coach at Oregon shortly after Thanksgiving. -
Kaepernick to start on Sunday

Cousin Sal (on the Bill Simmons podcast) suggested Bills fans just sing the national anthem every time he's on the field. -
I think the Rams should get Romo, what's the point for the Dolphins? Their season is done.
-
Love Carlos, but David Johnson is easily better than Hyde.
-
That week 1 loss is the one currently biting us in the playoff picture, though I don't see this Ravens team getting to the 10 wins likely necessary for the wild card.

How long until Chip Kelly is the coach at Oregon? 3 months? -
I would gamble and trade for Josh Gordon
Chuck Wagon replied to ScrewyLouie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First off, the Browns are utterly ridiculous in their trade expectations. They wanted a day 2 pick (2nd or 3rd round) a week ago when they knew Gordon was going back to rehab. But more to the point, Josh Gordon has a serious disease. Football is obviously a trigger for him, every time he gets close to a return to the field he has a relapse episode. This isn't a simple change of scenery issue or a guy who "just needs to grow up" this is an individual who is sick and has proven no capability of being a reliable performer. He's gone long past the potential reward side of the risk/reward equation, he needs however much time he needs away from the game to get right and needs to stop worrying about getting back as soon as possible, if it never happens for him it's a shame but it's not something we need to give up resources to become involved with. -
I tend to believe this is clickbait and nothing more. I highly doubt Woods is going to drop a ball or Zach Brown is going to miss a tackle because Rex likes Trump. I think the media is trying to play it out as a divided locker room while it seems like this might be a more tongue in cheek issue inside the actual building. Rex likes a fun atmosphere where players can speak their mind and we seem to have guys who thrive in that environment, while the media is making mountains out of molehills over everything now.

I'd easily take Baldwin / Graham / Lockett over our guys. You are right though, the Rams suck.
-
This week is huge. I'd be willing to wager most of us would have taken 2-2 with the 2 losses being by less than a TD each when the schedule was released. However, a loss all but eliminates us from any sort of division contention (not that we aren't in a precarious position already). Our WRs are comfortably in the bottom 3rd of the league, remove Sammy and I don't see anyone lining up worse WRs than us.
-
I also believe the gap between good teams and bad teams is widening and people realize it. For a long time we were fed the "parity" line about how any team could win in the league, but it's at the point now where people know the Steelers / Patriots / Packers / Broncos etc. are going to be good while the Bills / Browns / Jaguars etc. are going to suck. Going of the Brady - Peyton item I mentioned above, teams are also getting much younger. This is really hurts the feel of division rivalry games. It's one thing for the casual fan when you've got Ray Lewis & Hines Ward going against each other for a decade, it's quite another when it's Bud Dupree and Crockett Gilmore. Along with the division rivalries feeling like they are losing some luster, we are still getting force fed them in national games, specifically the NFC East or big market teams like the Bears. If 70% of Sunday / Monday night games are going to feature the Giants / Cowboys / Bears or the 2nd & 3rd best teams in divisions battling for the next best loser, people are going to turn the channel. Monday night in particular has lost almost all luster as we've been fed boring matchups over and over while CBS and Fox guard the ones we really want to watch for the 4 o'clock timeslot. Bottom line, the NFL has acted as if they are an unstoppable entity the entirety of Goodell's reign, but there's only so much fans are going to take.

I have to wonder if the crack down on daily fantasy sports has had an impact on the ratings as well. Last year companies like Fanduel & Draft Kings were raking in cash as interest in fantasy sports was at an all time high. In the last 12 months several states have banned the games and others are talking about proposing legislation. I'm sure more than a small amount of people who enjoyed these daily games and consumed all the football they could in order to get an edge might not stick around for the games if they can't play fantasy. Also, look at the star power that was lost this offseason as Peyton is gone and Tom Brady hasn't played, in their place you have Simien and Jimmy G. It wouldn't shock me if more casual fans who used to tune in because they knew Manning & Brady are not feeling the need to watch these guys they barely know.

They do try to run the ball. They traded Graham for Unger with an eye towards running the ball and start every game trying to play as a power running team. But when the opponent looks like it's a 7 on 7 drill vs your defense you can't stick with a ball control offensive gameplan and expect to be in games. They've invested heavily in their defense in drafts, but have little to no impact players to show for it. The cap mismanagement on top of the poor drafting shows where the problem is and it's not with Brees or Payton.

Time to reallign divisions
Chuck Wagon replied to Dave in Avon Lake now's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on geography, Baltimore should be in the AFC East, Miami should be in the AFC South, Indianapolis should be in the AFC North. -
Rex will be fired when we are 2-7 at the bye. Then we'll band together and finish the season 4-3 for no apparent reason other than to mess up any draft positioning. We will pick in the 8-10 range and draft a cornerback as we watch Gilmore sign with Atlanta or New Orleans or some other garbage team in the south. Because that's what the Bills do.
-
We all would have wanted Belichick fired 2 years into his career but we would have commissioned a statue for Brady 4 games into his career.
