  1. Cam at 16?! I wonder if he tore his acl from jerking his knee so hard.
  2. I completely agree with you. I think Mahomes has true franchise level potential and I think Watson / Trub / maybe even Kizer and Webb can get there too. IMO we are in a perfect position to gamble on a talent like Mahomes at 10 depending on what defensive talent is still on the board with that pick (especially if we could move down a few picks and still get him). We can allow Tyrod to play this year, basically have what we had on offense last year (passable, but not putting us in the playoffs) and give McD some time to build his D while Mahomes sits and learns. Give it a year of letting young guys play in our needed positions, potentially having some cheap young depth that we didn't have going into this offseason, possibly even get someone like Seymour, one of the WRs, Poyer etc to surprise and step into a strong starter at a position and reassess "needs" next year. Unfortunately we have some on this board who are still in full Rex mode, thinking we are "all in" and running around like chickens with their heads cut off about not having a #2 wr, a RT, corners, linebackers and safeties and worried about finding 7 starters with 5 draft picks.
  3. I guess it's all perspective. I don't see anything they've done this offseason that supports your line of thinking. If they were legitimately pushing to make the playoffs this year I'd have to believe they would have found a way to keep Gilmore, or wouldn't have cut Graham and Williams (without even doing June 1st designations) or allow Tyrod's situation to hang in limbo for a couple of months. I think Pegula, McD and Whaley are realistic about where we stand as a franchise, atoning for some past mistakes, cleaning the cap sheet up moving forward and setting a foundation. Tyrod is viewed as a bridge and nothing more. They are bringing Mahomes in for a private workout. Anything is in play with the pick. A lot of young guys are going to have chances to win spots on the roster. They easily could take a QB at 10 with the intention that he sits most or all of the year while learning.
  4. Hyde is a pretty similar player to Peppers, I can see playing both as nickle corners / strong safeties in nickle packages, but IMO they already brought Hyde in for the role Peppers would play. I think they take Reddick over Peppers if that's the type of player they are leaning towards, Reddick has the size and profiles as a similar player to Thomas Davis. To further nitpick your mock, I don't see how Ross and Mahomes don't go 1st round. I think Ross could be the first WR taken, I would have to believe one of Pittsburgh / Green Bay / Dallas would take him simply because of the value he represents at that spot. There's too much buzz on Mahomes at this point for him to not go 1st round, KC is rumored to be in love with him, I'd have to imagine they take him at 27 as a worst case for him.
  5. Few things would make me happier than seeing Simms demoted. I think Simms and Aikman are both terrible (but Simms much more so), they are in their jobs because of who they were on the field, but no one under 35 really remembers much of Simms career.
  6. That's what is happening. The Cowboys are going to release him and then he's going to retire. Broadcasting is the way to go for him, all the networks want him right now, Gruden is making $6.5 mil with ESPN, Romo could very likely land around $5 mil to work ~20 games a year, play all the golf he wants and never take another hit.
  7. Not nearly as ridiculous as the amount of people here who feel the same way about a less talented prospect just because his last name is Kelly.
  8. I'd love to see a similar analysis done with Cleveland and San Francisco removed from the equation. Last year Cleveland spent no money on players, this year they gave out big deals to Collins, Bitonio, Zeitler, Britt, Tretter. Similar situation in San Fran, last year signed just a few marginal players, this year tried to build an entire offense through FA.
  9. I'm not sure we have the guys to run McD's scheme, we need better linebackers and likely one elite safety to truly make a zone/cover 2 scheme work IMO, an elite edge rusher wouldn't hurt either (I think both Shaq and Hughes are better suited to be the "2nd Guy"). The Panthers were ok against Brady last time they played (the Pats scored 20) but the Panthers have guys like Kuechley and Thomas Davis, we sorely lack linebackers who can run and make plays in space.
  10. People were also concerned with Aaron Rodgers mechanics. The guy has been around pro athletes his entire life, there's a ton of natural talent with him to work with, but he knows the work he needs to put in at the NFL level to succeed. It seems when talented QBs bust its due to 1) improper coaching / not enough talent around them (Couch, David Carr) or 2) they simply don't get "it" (Jamarcus, Leaf). Honestly with our team I'd be more concerned with the former on Mahomes than the later.
  11. The last couple of weeks it seems Mahomes has really turned into the hot guy. It's starting to feel like we might not even get a shot at him with pick #10.
  12. It's also a common refrain that next year's QB is the one to get. Last year at this time the refrain was "I'm not 100% sold on Wentz or Goff, but Deshaun Watson is the guy". Similar things happened with Matt Barkley and Jimmy Clausen just to name a couple. Next years guy gets anointed as the one you want, plays the entire year under an intense microscope and gets his nits picked apart. Darnold has looked good, but he hasn't played a lot of football yet, by the time Andrew Luck was going to be in the draft he was a Stanford graduate with almost twice as much experience as Darnold will have.
  13. There's a lot of talk about him being a RB / slot WR / KR hybrid. It increases his value greatly as he's very strong in the passing game. No one believe he's the type of player to get 20+ touches lined up at RB.
  14. Absent getting Adams or Hooker at 10, trading down to the late teens / early 20s, getting a 2nd and more and being able to still get one of Williams / Davis / Ross is my preferred draft.
  15. It's been covered ad nausem, Gilmore got trucked by Le'veon Bell one time and got burnt by Chris Hogan on a play the safety didn't do his job, he's hot garbage and worth $12 million but not $14 million, plus, comp picks. (I think I covered the argument from that side) I'm in the "Mahomes at 10" camp unless Hooker or Adams falls (I can't see Adams, maybe Hooker). Mahomes along with Cardale would allow us to build a vertical offense that could suit the arm talent of either guy, whichever one wins the job. I don't think Watson could fit the same scheme, Kizer probably could but I'm just not that sold on him as I believe Prosise, Fuller and Stanley were a huge reason for his success. Yes, Mahomes did not play in a NFL scheme, but he also knew every single game came down to his arm as his defense wasn't stopping anyone and his receivers won't be playing on Sundays, he still had his team in most every game. There's work to be done with any of these QBs, but I'd rather start with the one possessing ideal size, excellent arm talent, who comes from a professional family.
  16. When we take Davis Webb at #10 is the website going to have a nuclear meltdown?
  17. Sammy. He's viewed as an elite talent across the league at a premier position and is cheap. Brandon Cooks just landed a 1st round pick plus a swap of the 4th for a 3rd. Sammy is better than Cooks. I can't imagine anyone on the roster fetching more.
  18. Sure, but historically you don't use a 1st round pick on a QB a year after using a 1st round pick on a QB. He's 38. They've been linked to the QBs but the belief seems to be waiting until day 2 to bring one in to groom. If you are Brees and they take a QB at 11, you have to wonder what you are doing there.
  19. Under your scenario, the real danger to Houston would likely be someone jumping back up from behind them. I just want Hooker to fall to 10. That likely requires multiple top 10 QBs and Fournette & Foster going top 9. No glaring holes except 4/5ths of their offensive line. They've also bled defensive line / MLB talent the past couple of offseasons, their rush defense was gashed last year.
  20. I think the 49ers are incredibly unpredictable since it's Lynch and Shanahan's first time around. I could see Lynch valuing Thomas in a Sapp call back to the Tampa D, valuing Adams as a fellow safety or I could see Shanahan wanting Watson as his QB to groom. Watson going 2 could start a landslide or them going defense could push everything the other way. At this point I think it's safe to ink Garrett to the Browns at pick 1 and otherwise multiple scenarios are in play.
  21. Cleveland gets paranoid about someone moving up to 10 to get Trub and gives us a 3rd to go from 12 to 10. Arizona gets worried about us moving down again and gives us a 4th to go from 12 to 13. Houston doesn't want to wait to get their guy and gives us a future 1st to go from 25 to 13. We still get one of Ross / Davis / Williams at 25 and get an extra 3rd / 4th / future 1st, loading up on DBs/linebackers with our other picks.
  22. I can't see the Jets going RB, especially at 6. They know they are rebuilding from the ground floor up, a RB is a "we are a piece or two away" pick. I do think there's a decent chance Carolina takes a RB, they've valued RB early before and have stated they want to save the pounding on Cam. I believe Mixon is the wild card at RB that's really going to move things around. Talent wise he would likely be the first guy off the board, but since teams know he's very likely not going in the first it could allow them to wait on the other guys too. I also wouldn't be shocked to see Kamara go higher than people expect, the guy can play and tested off the charts. Darnold is the wild card on these QBs as several teams could put off the QB pick thinking they'll be in a spot to get him next year (the Jets being the prime candidate of this approach), but the 49ers and Bears don't have any sort of young QB on the roster, I'd have to believe Shanahan wants a guy to groom and the Bears have been searching for the QB for generations.
  23. Kizer absolutely feels like the Bears. I've thought for a while that it feels like Watson - 49ers , Kizer - Bears, Trub - Jets with someone potentially moving up to 7-11 to get Mahomes ahead of the Browns pick at 12. The narrative has been written these QBs won't go top 10, but there's too big a need and plenty to like from each one, it's not like these teams are going to come out to the mock drafters and say "well actually, we want the QB".
  24. Gilmore will be a much better player on his next contract than Clements was when he left. Some of that's coaching, but a lot of it is talent. The psychology of this thread is humorous to say the least.
  25. One man's "can play multiple positions" is another man's "can't play any positions".
