  1. The lockouts murdered the NHL with casual fans. Basically just as the NBA cleaned up it's act, became a little less "urban" and brought in new marketable guys headlined by Lebron and company the NHL sat out a season. I don't think the interest with casual fans ever recovered.
  2. Titans reporter Paul Kuharsky is out. I'd be kind of surprised to see Rodak survive the day. I could see ESPN cutting out a lot of coverage for the non glamour teams (it was already limited to begin with) and focus on the teams that really move the ratings needle.
  3. So far it looks like they are just going to chop all their reporters, let other outlets do the work then just hot take everything. It's feeling more and more like they are trying to be a sports channel by appealing to casual sports fans over diehard ones who actually appreciate some insight over hot takery.
  4. The NFL screwed them over though, Monday Night used to be THE night in the NFL, but now they've put the weeks big game on Sunday instead and further diluted primetime football with Thursday night. I love football as much as anyone, but after Thursday night and all day Saturday and Sunday, I need to skip out on monday so I don't end up divorced, I don't care about watching the Redskins play the Saints after already consuming ~30 hours of football the preceding 4 days. The NBA is doing no favors, no one watches regular season (not to mention regular season baseball) and the post season is just as much with TNT / Fox as it is with ESPN. They've ruined their relationship with the NHL and are basically just left with College Football to post them up (and the Thursday night games they aired lost a lot of luster with the NFL's thursday night football).
  5. The way I look at it, the Jets are the team that the Browns are playing off. They are reasonably sure the Bears and Jags won't go QB and are pretty sure the 49ers won't. So they call the Jets, if the Jets are set on the player they know they want, you call the Titans to get above them, if the Jets want to shop the pick you feel comfortable shopping all the way down to 8, thinking the Bengals at 9 are a division rival and less likely to deal with (not to mention Hue's old team) and if we are passing the QB you can just stay at 12. They are setting the groundwork right now and trying to get a feel for the Jets move, they aren't trying to trade up immediately (#2 with San Fran is the only immediate logical trade up partner).
  6. No, it can't. You can trade down multiple times this year, tank next year to get pick #1 and have the ammo to get pick #2 (like the Browns this year). Your hairbrained idea to trade #10 down multiple times ending up with picks #1 & #2 on Thursday is utterly ridiculous. I'm hoping for Adams / Hooker / Thomas at #10 but fully expect it won't happen. Absent that, I'm hopefully we move down a couple of times (first to ~15, then to ~20) pick up an extra 2 or some extra 3s and take one of Mahomes / Ross / Davis / Williams / Foster at 20 (or even Bolles or Ramzcyk if those other guys are gone).
  7. I do think trading our 1st next year to move up this year may be in play. Whaley has done it before, if he thinks he needs to do something big to save his job, risking the future for the present is certainly on the table. It's a huge part of the problem of putting a GM into a position where he's making decisions to save his job vs the best long term interest of the franchise.
  8. Hopefully it's Adams / Hooker / Thomas, those are the three guys I'm praying one of which drops to us, otherwise I hope we move down.
  9. The media spin cracks me up. If we matched it would have been "Belichick strikes again, forces the Bills to overpay a backup running back" but since we didn't match it's "Belichick strikes again, steals up and coming player from the Bills." If you look at Pats message boards, a lot of people are not very pleased with this move, giving up a draft pick to pay a former backup like a starter.
  10. That's my pick from the list. Put up big numbers in college and his testing numbers (4.45 at 233 lbs) are great. Honestly surprised there's not more support for him in here.
  11. I'd think the 49ers hold onto Hyde and pairing him with Fournette gives them a souped up version of what Shanahan had in Atlanta with Freeman & Coleman.
  12. Hooker could look really nice as a high safety in our D. I think if Thomas slips to 7 or 8 we may be moving up.
  13. Sachi: "Jimmy, we've come to a consensus, we'll be taking Garrett with pick #1" Haslam: "Defensive ends don't sell jerseys, I want a splash, take that Cleveland kid at QB, the pick will pay for itself, make me wet, shimmer shammer." Sachi: "......" And then Trub #5...
  14. If Lynch and Shanahan play the Browns into taking Trub #1 and get Garrett #2 there's going to be a whole bunch of media guys who need to eat crow on the Lynch hire.
  15. There's speculation on Eleven Warriors (OSU Blog) that it's either Conley or Hooker and Cardale was at the bar as well.
  16. We potentially could have gotten a 5th round pick AND AP for cheaper than MG. I'd be curious the price tag on Blount. I think he'd be an interesting compliment to Shady.
  17. Right, never failed a test =/= never used substances.
  18. That and the 2008 5-1.
  19. I don't think anyone has said that, most that want a QB just believe the ones most likely to succeed will be gone by our pick in round 2. There's pretty much a few camps at this point, the guys who really like Trub / Mahomes or Watson and expect the ones they like to be gone at 44, the guys who like Nathan Peterman and want to take him round 3 and the Chad Kelly truthers. Just because someone falls into the first camp doesn't mean they are saying "Take a QB at 10 no matter who!"
  20. But our rushing game attack is soo good if we get a good defense we'll be able to lose to the Steelers or Pats in the playoffs 17-12.
  21. Do you think going defense at 10 is the difference between having a good defense vs a bad defense? I think the vast majority of us agree if there's one position we need to upgrade to go from where we are now to a perennial playoff team, it's the QB position.
  22. "We both know how this is going to end"
  23. Chad Kelly isn't getting drafted.
  24. Let them have him, take the 5th and give the money to Blount. Gillislee is a nice player, but Blount would be a true compliment to Shady and solve our short yardage woes.
  25. Pretty certain QBs taken in any round are more likely to fail than succeed.
