4 I have a tough time seeing us being better than 2-3 going into the bye. You can argue Taylor vs Cutler, but other than the Jets I think we are playing against a better QB than we have over the last 11 games. I don't think Sammy and Darby are going to be the last pieces dealt between now and the trade deadline. Like I said previously, I don't think its the downgrade from Sammy to Matthews, I think the Sammy & Darby trades give the clear signal that most anyone can be had for draft picks.

Nate Peterman Love .. anyone vs. 2018 QB draft??
Chuck Wagon replied to WideRightRevenge's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some people will never learn, until he proves otherwise (multiple times) he's just the most recent Trent Edwards - Ryan Fitzpatrick, I don't see a reason for overwhelming hope. You Peterman truthers can think Lucy is going to keep the football there this time, but I'm not falling on my back yet again. I don't believe he has the arm talent to be a "franchise" QB. I hope he works out, but to project him as anything but a good backup at this point is a fools errand. -
IMO that is the number 1 indicator of a good coach, the ability to fit your scheme to your personnel, not the other way around. Game plans need to be adaptable. The Pats have been the best in the business at modeling their "scheme" to fit their personnel and to exploit the opponents weaknesses. Rex refusing to adopt his scheme to fit the personnel on hand is the top reason he failed. I give McD a little more rope than Rex simply because he's inheriting a tire fire, not a top 5 defense and it's a whole regime change, but worrying about scheme fits instead of fitting schemes is a concern.

Saints Shopping CB Delvin Breaux
Chuck Wagon replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been informed multiple times that McDermott's defense would function fine with tackling dummies at corner, no need to give up assets for Breaux. -
I'm fine going for draft picks, but if that's the plan we better make some cuts to maximize comp picks. Assuming we get a comp 3rd for Gilmore, I guess a 2nd / 2 3rds / Gaines / Matthews is about the best we could hope for in losing Gilmore / Watkins / Darby, but man, that's A LOT of talent walking out the building.

The Golden Age of Football is Over?
Chuck Wagon replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do think the future of the QB position is the legitimate concern. IMO it's difficult to avoid a socioeconomic conversation when looking at the future of football, but I think there's a disconnect between the situations where parents aren't allowing their kids to play and the type of players who eventually end up in the NFL. -
And I'd have to believe someone else would put him on their 53. He's gotta beat out Yates by a comfortable margin in camp and I'm not sure he'll get the reps to do it.

Let's get ready... 2017 BOLD predictions
Chuck Wagon replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills go 10-6 and claim the last wild card spot. Chiefs go 6-10, they start out rough and the call to replace Smith gets loud, a starting QB on a playoff caliber team gets hurt and Smith gets traded at the deadline, handing the team over to Mahomes, who shows flashes but ultimately they lose a fair amount. Sam Darnold dodges the Jets (and Browns) and returns to school, the Jets take Josh Rosen #1 overall. Seed 1: Pats Seed 2: Raiders Seed 3: Steelers Seed 4: Titans Seed 5: Colts Seed 6: Bills We get curb stomped by the Steelers in the 1st round. -
The Washington arrest is very concerning IMO. He got into big trouble right before the bowl game his senior year, but seemed to learn from it, so this second incident is a major red flag. It doesn't seem Cardale is in the plans of the new regime. If Lawson / Ragland / Seymour can solidify themselves as starters / contributors, that's a win in my book at this point.

Turnover on this team is staggering.
Chuck Wagon replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Simply put, Rex was a disaster hire. With how good the defense was in 2014, it was lunacy to hire a coach who wanted to change that scheme. We should have hired an offensive coach (Hue Jackson would have been ideal) and made Schwartz the highest paid DC in the league. -
With his reality star wife we'd likely only be a last resort.
-
I'd have to believe he's in line for a pretty heavy passing down workload, unless Fournette picks up blocking quickly and he's a true every down workhorse. I'm not sure there's anyone willing to give him a bigger role.

Jeremy Maclin (Agrees to 2 year deal with Ravens)
Chuck Wagon replied to BillsDiehard's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best years of his career were 2014 and 2015. Last year was a combination of a variety of factors, a lot of mouths to feed in an offense what wasn't overly explosive and the emergence of Tyreek Hill and some injuries for Maclin. Make no mistake, he's likely played his best football, but he's still likely to be much more productive than anyone past Sammy and maybe Zay Jones on our roster. -

Is it few teams are interested in him or he's interested in few teams? There's pretty clear connections between the Bills and Ravens and him. Hue Jackson said he'd like the Browns to sign him and they can offer more than anyone, but he doesn't seem interested in that. If you take out teams that don't have the playing time he's looking for, teams that don't have the cap space to meet what he wants and teams who are complete tire fires like the Jets, you remove a large amount of the league rather quickly. -

This food talk is brutal. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease (ie gluten allergy) a few months back. What's gluten in? 85% of anything you want to eat. Cutting out fast food and donuts sure helps with the weight loss goals. -
Warriors let up last year in game 3 because they thought they had the series won. They won't let up at any point this year. Tonight's game is certainly pivotal, to say the least. I can see a scenario where the Cavs role players are on fire and the Warriors are off their game and Cavs take one, but if the Warriors win tonight and especially if it's a runaway win, game 4 could be UGLY.

Assuming he's healthy Maclin is a huge get. Watkins / Maclin / Jones are better than anything we've had at WR since the days of Moulds and Evans - Price. -

It's probably just the pessimistic Bills fan in me, but I'm starting to feel like this would be done if it was going to happen. Other teams can offer more money, or an offense more suited to putting up numbers and hitting the market next year, or a better chance to win. -
Comp picks! Come get your Comp Picks!!
Chuck Wagon replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If it comes down to Hauschka vs a 4th round pick that's a pretty easy decision IMO. At lot would depend on our team standing at that point, but Hauschka would need to be the best kicker in the league to be worth a 4th round pick. There's a certain level of playing time / value that must be obtained to qualify for a pick and players signed after May 9th don't count. Those last guys you mentioned either didn't qualify or were after the deadline. There's going to be a lot of guys cut in the preseason and I think we'll see some churn on the bottom ~10 guys or so on our roster. -
