  1. Yes. That'll be a "what if" if they sold high on Dalton for a handful of draft picks instead of paying him, played McCarron and used the savings to keep Whitworth and Zeitler.
  2. The receiving team wouldn't need that much cap space, it would be the Colts that would be looking at a huge cap hit. The receiving team only gets his guaranteed yearly salary, the bonus money accelerates immediately onto the Colts cap. Take Sammy for example. He's costing the Rams $700K this year but he's $5.6 mil of dead money on our books.
  3. That's operating under the assumption that ESPN is proactive instead of reactive. They aren't. Ratings were declining when they were still in the "good old days" people are yearning for here. Bottom line, the internet and social media has changed everything, if something spectacular happens, twitter or an other form of media let you know and watch it immediately after it happened. The days of people in New York not seeing what happened in Miami until the 11 o'clock SportsCenter are long gone and not coming back.
  4. Thinking about it further, the league shouldn't play Thursday night games between weeks 2 - 4. It wasn't that long ago (ok, maybe it was by this point) that you used to have quality college football games on Thursday nights. Weeks 2-4 the league should back off and let college shine again on Thursday nights, instead of giving us Boise St. vs New Mexico. Then starting week 5 have Thursday night / Thanksgiving for teams exclusively coming off bye weeks, adding in the opening game, that gives you 15 Thursday night games, if you use teams exclusively coming off bye weeks, Thursday nights would be something players enjoy instead of dread, giving equal time to recover before and after the mid week game and giving back to back long weeks during the middle of the season.
  5. I like Thursday night football, but they need to do a MUCH better job of handling it. It's ridiculous to ask these players to play again after 3 days off. Teams playing on Thursday nights should be coming off a bye the week before and Thursday night should basically allow them to have ~10 days off before and ~10 days off after. I realize weeks 2-4 it would be impossible to do this, but you would see a dramatic improvement in the quality of play and in the ratings if these games were handled that way.
  6. I really wish we would have traded with the Texans instead of the Chiefs in last years draft.
  7. Just when you thought it couldn't get worse, the NFL airs non-stop "RAMS - 49ERS Next Thursday Night!" commercials. The Bengals are terrible. Mike Brown cheaping out has finally caught up, I don't see how they overcome the loss of Whitworth and Zeitler. Honestly I've been down on the Bills all off-season and still tend to believe the lack of playmakers outside of Shady will do us in, but man, if the QB play around the league wasn't bad enough, some of these offensive lines are incredibly terrible. The Texans / Bengals / Giants / Seahawks / Colts / Jets have all time bad olines. I think we are beginning to see a dramatic shift in the NFL game, one not many would have predicted just a few years ago, but with a "golden" generation of QBs aging out of the game and the difference in quality of play between offensive and defensive lines, I could see elite offensive lines become the "elite must have QBs" of the future, if you have an offensive line that can blow people off the ball, a RB who can make things happen and a QB who doesn't trip over his own feet you are miles ahead of the offense the Texans and Bengals just showed.
  8. A lot of old men yelling at clouds here, as it always is when ESPN comes up. Things change. They can't just run highlights for 10 hours a day anymore, you can get all the highlights you care about on demand in less than 10 minutes. There's a segment of the audience that loves the Stephen A. hot takery, I've never gotten it but it does well. If you want your old school bland sports talk show, Mike & Mike still crank it out daily. Maybe ESPN is tired of giving the NFL hours of advertising and millions (billions) of dollars for garbage Monday night football games. Maybe interest in the NFL is declining precipitously and ESPN is trying to appeal to a broader audience. Want NFL coverage? Watch NFL net, they've been doing a better job than ESPN for almost a decade at this point. It's an on demand society, there's a podcast out there for any in-depth individual topic one may want able to be downloaded and listened to whenever your time allows. The belief that Espn should air non-stop highlights while two guys crack bad jokes is incredibly out of touch.
  9. Getting upset about how any player is used in a win is a fools game. Now if they lose a game while getting gashed up the middle in the run game and Dareus is on the sideline half the game, that's something to get upset about.
  10. My nightmare scenario from this season is the Bills giving the Colts 5 1st round picks to go from #9 to #1, then seeing Doug Marrone and the Jags drafting what turns out to be the best QB in the draft at #10.
  11. Meh. It's tough to get upset at "disrespect" when this franchise hasn't earned a shred of respect for themselves over the last 20 years. The Gilmore signing has been praised all season, if the shoe was on the other foot and we signed Butler for a bunch of money only to see him get roasted, everyone will say how smart New England was for not paying him. It'll be that way until we force a change of the narrative through results. No use getting upset about it.
  12. Yes, Burkhead very easily could have gotten those TDs and I would be a much happier guy.
  13. After the last few seasons (and even going back to the Fitz / Edwards false hope seasons), I'll feel comfortable about the Bills odds of having a good season when they get win number 12.
  14. Apparently I think this is a much more interesting and potentially realistic question than a lot of people here do. First the cap hit is a huge factor, but if the Colts decide to go very young it's a one time penalty. That being said, if they put Luck on the block (and if they have any long term injury concerns it may be a prudent move), I would have to believe it would make the RG3 trade look like child's play. Could they get 5 1st round picks for him? More? There would be significant cost savings over the next few years and Rosen or Darnold are 7 years younger than Luck. It would be a shocking move, but not exactly unprecedented (the Chargers and Pats moving on from Brees and Bledsoe are similar, but slightly different, scenarios), but I wouldn't call it a laughable idea by any measure.
  15. Darren McFadden on my fantasy team says "please make sure Zeke sits 6 games".
  16. It's the same approach the Raiders took when McKenzie took over. Clean up the salary cap and load up on highly drafted young players. McKenzie looks brilliant because he found Carr. McBeane will go as far as the QB they find. If Kizer works for the Browns or they find a QB soon, they'll be set up nice, if not and Wentz / Trubisky / Watson develop, it won't be long before "trusting the process" turns into "LOOK WHAT WE COULD HAVE HAD!". Mahomes puts our braintrust in a similar situation.
  17. I don't think a 3-8 start with the fans calling for Mahomes to replace Smith is out of the question. Though knowing the chiefs they'll start out 1-7, get us all really excited, then win 8 in a row to go 9-7 and grab the last wild card spot.
  18. Bill Simmons (and his company) have taken pot shots at the Bills for the last 15+ years, not surprised they put the Bills and the Jets at the bottom, though it seems unlikely the two worst teams in football would be in the same division.
  19. I'm not going to argue someone clearly chugging the kool-aid.
  20. Utterly ridiculous to start Peterman over Tyrod at this point. But the real question is what is the trade market for Tyrod? If we play Peterman, we are going to go 0-16.
  21. That's what I'm really beginning to wonder. It kind of has the feeling of him opening the season on PUP, them being 0-6 or 1-5 and deciding to shut him down. Ballard is new, has plenty of job security and doesn't seem to be in a huge rush to win now.
  22. Some people need to learn about sunk costs..... Ragland doesn't fit in today's NFL as a passing down player, to get a 4th round pick for him is pretty solid work.
  23. Is John Miller really at risk of not making the team?
  24. Shady to the Giants or Redskins makes a lot of sense, with the exception of the dead money we need to swallow, but both teams have a huge need at RB and playoff aspirations. Tyrod to the Jags makes a lot of sense, they also have playoff aspirations and want to ride D and running game, Tyrod could be a great caretaker for them. I don't think Dorsett can play, otherwise they wouldn't be looking at cutting him. Trade our assets for picks, then load the back of the roster up after cuts.
  25. They should trade Tyrod, there's teams like Jacksonville desperate for a QB answer, meanwhile teams like Indy and Baltimore have big questions about the health of their guys. I could see trading Jordan Matthews before the deadline if we have an awful start and he's looking fine. I don't know Wood's contract status, so I don't want to speak out of turn, but I could see him being dealt and Groy replacing him.
