The OP’s rationale for not taking a TE was this high can be applied just as appropriately to WR’s, CB’s and other non QB positions. Not a compelling take to me. I’m not sure I want Hock at 9 but not for this reason.

This is not necessarily true at all and I disagree with your “all likelihood“ qualifier. If you pick an edge rusher with the ninth pick you absolutely expect some positive impact. Doesn’t have to be pro bowl level but clearly significant. Anything beyond that would be gravy. In this case, anyway, I will keep the first pick.

Based on all the reading I’m doing the heart condition is considered a non-issue and will not likely affect his draft status. You may be making way too much of it. From all the mocks I’m seeing, not only will he not be there at pick 22, he may not make it out of the top 10! If he is there at nine he may be the best player on the board at that time!

At nine I would definitely take him over Metcalf if those were the best two options available.

Completely disagree. He very likely is that player and there’s a good chance he will be available at nine.

If J. Williams is a plug-in and play pro bowler for ten years as many say, then that’s a hell of a lot closer to great than good and that’s worth the pick!

The “simplicity” of the study is the problem! You say so yourself that no other factors are taken into consideration. In other words, the study did not control for a single variable! From the standpoint of empirical research this renders the findings, essentially, useless.

I used to dislike Kiper intensely. He comes across pompous and he has the gall to charge people for his opinion on the ESPN website which others don’t do. But, the fact is, he is no better or no worse than any other of the pundits out there. And this includes Mayock, who, in my opinion, is overrated. Besides, all of these other pundits wouldn’t have jobs if it wasn’t for Kiper, who started all this. So my dislike for him as attenuated over the years. I’ve even developed some begrudging respect for him. Besides, his take that the Bills might be a surprise team this year is not irrational or far fetched.

With the exception of a quarterback, if you take any player in the top 10 regardless of position he better start on day one or it’s a wasted pick. So, if they do take Metcalf at number nine he better at least to be WR 1B if not 1A!

Just to piggyback on this, you may want to Google Oliver’s pro day.By all accounts he blew everybody away! Now I’m thinking that it’s more likely than not he won’t even be there at number nine

Great find! I remember watching the game on my black-and-white TV in my home in Niagara Falls when I was 11 years old. The Stratton hit on Keith Lincoln is great to watch to this day. I also believe the 1965 championship team would’ve beaten Green Bay if they had a Super Bowl one year earlier

I’ve lived in the Syracuse area since 1980. I’m a big fan of the orange including lacrosse. It is said that a fundamental rule change occurred after Jim Brown played lacrosse. He used to get the ball in his stick,cup against his chest and simply run down the field knocking people down until he got to the goal and then scored. Since that time, reportedly because of this, it’s illegal to carry the ball that way

It was sad. He retired in his prime at the end of the 1965 season to focus on acting in movies. I was a kid growing up in Niagara Falls. Maybe you remember that back then both the browns and the bills were televised every Sunday in western New York. I’ve always been a bills fan. For a while the Browns were my second team. If Brown had played out his natural physical career they would still be chasing him for the all-time leading rusher. One of my best years as a fan was 1964 when the bills one the AFL championship in the Browns won the NFL championship. I also remember that Lee Roy Kelly took over for brown after he retired and was a great running back for several years after that.

I remember this,also, growing up in Niagara Falls. Not only was Jim Brown the greatest running back of all time, in my opinion he is the greatest football player of all time. He had to be seen to be appreciated!

This trade makes sense for both teams. Certainly for the Giants who relieve them self of a headache that over matched his talent. That’s how much of a headache he became! It also makes sense given their current quarterback situation, to me. For the Browns, there is a high risk/reward ratio. If it pays off it could be really big. If not, it can be disastrous.
