I agree with you and, thus, the opening line of my post.Although I do believe that regardless of where he is taken, probably in the first round, he will potential he be more than “just a starter”. As things stand now I would not be comfortable taking him at nine for all of those reasons. But, I do believe he has a higher ceiling than a lot of people on the board give him credit for. It’s hard not to like his intangibles. Also, at this point, if they did take him at nine I suppose I would trust Beane’s judgement.

I’m not sure he’s the BPA at 9 but the age thing is a total non issue. If he is that good who cares if he is 24 instead of 21 or 22? Also, I think sometimes this whole “floor/ceiling“ issue gets overrated. I see no compelling reason to believe that if he is drafted he can’t continue to develop. This is pretty much the case of any young athlete going from college to the pros. I wonder what Kyle Williams’ ceiling was when he was drafted?

Sorry for the double post. Don’t know why that happens sometimes when I dictate. Didn’t proof it before posting.

Good effort! However, if the first eight pics go the way you say and Sweat is on the board, I think the bills take him. His upside may be as good as any of the other pass rushers in the draft. From everything I’m reading his heart condition is seen as a non-issue. I don’t believe he will fall as far is you say he will. And I would be just fine with this pick. Who’s the ONE guy that you want in this draft?

Thank you. This needed to be said after a couple posters actually seem to believe that Oliver is so highly rated because he ran a fast cone drill. The notion is a bit silly on the face of it. There is a reason why he is so universally highly rated and most likely will not fall to the ninth pick and it’s not how he ran his cone drill! -
OK, it’s very simple. The article is a bunch of BS “data“ which is not probative and you cannot make a decision based on that stuff. You cannot sink your teeth into it. It is just another example of the ubiquitous pre-draft ***** that goes on these days. Like I said, it’s simple. Your team has made evaluations of the top players. You have a certain context in terms of where your team is at right now as far as its development is concerned. You see a seriously talented tight end who you believe, based on all of your assessment of him, can make a major difference on the team. If that is the case, and you have no other player rated ahead of him regardless of position, you take him. Like I said, it is that simple. Why you’re laughing out loud at me It makes me wonder what you’re doing with your hand.

Don’t believe everything you read.

The OP’s rationale for not taking a TE was this high can be applied just as appropriately to WR’s, CB’s and other non QB positions. Not a compelling take to me. I’m not sure I want Hock at 9 but not for this reason.

This is not necessarily true at all and I disagree with your “all likelihood“ qualifier. If you pick an edge rusher with the ninth pick you absolutely expect some positive impact. Doesn’t have to be pro bowl level but clearly significant. Anything beyond that would be gravy. In this case, anyway, I will keep the first pick.

I’ll be in a full-blown harness with an ejector button.

Based on all the reading I’m doing the heart condition is considered a non-issue and will not likely affect his draft status. You may be making way too much of it. From all the mocks I’m seeing, not only will he not be there at pick 22, he may not make it out of the top 10! If he is there at nine he may be the best player on the board at that time!

Fine! Agree to disagree. I’ll bet that if either one of us did some research we would find more than a few players were drafted at nine to fit that category. But, that’s actually besides the point. It proves nothing. It’s a relevant. The only question is about the current draft. That’s the only context that is significant here. At nine I would definitely take him over Metcalf if those were the best two options available.
