WRs - Overall Grade F: requires a complete rebuild for 2017
somnus00 replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How do you grade our receiving corps with an F? I don't know what to make of threads like this, but they drive me a bit crazy. I get the feeling that some posters are more interested in sticking to an opinion rather than letting data determine their perspective. I like Tyrod. I think we need to keep him unless we find a demonstrably better QB, but he is no pocket passer. How can you analyze the efficacy of our receiving corps when you have a QB who doesn't really seem to scan the field and go through progressions? Take a look at Dez Bryant's stats. When Romo was the full time starter, his numbers were stellar. Over the past two years, his numbers have gone way down. Did he suddenly become a bad receiver? Or did the changes at QB affect his numbers? From 2011 to 2014 Dez averaged 84 catches for 1213 yards. Per game thats 5.33 catches and 77 yards per game Over the past 2 years with Romo mostly out, Dez averaged 3.7 catches and 54 yards per game. I'm not saying we have a stellar receiving corps. But I am asking: How can you all be so sure they are terrible? Robert Woods got 10 catches for 162 yards against Seattle's Legion of Boom...with Watkins out of the game. I just want people to keep things in perspective. Just because something is Bills related, doesn't make it terrible. We have talent on this team. I guarantee that our receivers would get better if our QB started throwing the damn ball. Tyrod needs to start letting his guys go after it. -
Hackett Hired as new Jaguars OC
somnus00 replied to Forward Progress's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I heard he can throw a pigskin a quarter mile. -
This post is like a Breitbart article with a Huffington Post headline. Along with the comment section.

I hope we keep Woods. I couldn't understand how so many posters were bashing him at the beginning of the season. He played injured last year (groin pull if I'm not mistaken). After watching him torch the Seahawks, we can be sure that he'd be a great #2 if we decide to try out this new forward pass business that all the kids are doing these days.

Kelly Skipper Named Bills' RB Coach
somnus00 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Didn't this guy play O-Line for the Washington Sentinals? "Nandeska!" -
Once again, so many people overthinking details. You know who had great footwork and mechanics? Trent Edwards. Ask Bill Walsh. When the QB makes a great 20 yard strike with pinpoint accuracy, how many people watching the game say, "Yeah, but did you see his footwork? Meh." I'm not saying Mahomes is going to be a star. No one really knows that because mental make-up is such a huge part of the equation. And no one here knows the kid's football smarts. That will come out at the combine. But the tools are there. Strong arm, accurate. I really like his potential. But I have no idea how smart he is with regards to football.

Childress & Olson Both Reported as Out for Bills' OC
somnus00 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My feeling all week was that our next OC would be coaching this weekend. Specifically, he would come from the Chiefs. While Childress has a higher floor, I think Nagy has a higher ceiling. If this makes any sense, I'd be more excited by Nagy...but I'd be more comfortable with Childress. -
Personally, I'd say if Malik Hooker or Jamal Adams are there at 10, you take whichever is highest on your list. If not, try to trade down closer to 20 and take Jabrill Peppers. Then with your next two high picks, you take a WR like Courtland Sutton, and QB Pat Mahomes (I like this kid). Just my two pennies. I'm just a guy sitting on his couch watching football.

McDermott Retains Crossman as ST Coordinator

Kansas City would disagree with you. ST is one of the reasons they're in the playoffs...at home no less. -
McDermott Retains Crossman as ST Coordinator
somnus00 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Crossman = New Chuck Lester -
I think GunnerBill has it exactly right. Fans and media hold on to the antiquated belief that if a coordinator has a great year, he's automatically a great head coach candidate. This isn't necessarily true. Some great coordinators are just that...great coordinators. Like Wade Phillips. As I stated before, Mike McCarthy's offense was rated last in the league before getting the head job in Green Bay. Smart GMs know that there is more to being a head coach than success as an OC or DC.

McDermott emerging as favorite in coaching search...
somnus00 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McDermott would bring Mike McCoy as OC if rumors are true (and if Vance Joseph doesn't grab him first). He has a good reputation for getting a lot out of QBs (Kyle Orton and Tim Tebow). I'm not saying I'm for or against him. You can't really get an feel for someone's potential until you speak with him. As fas as I know, no one here has done that. By the way, Mike McCarthy was OC of the last ranked offense in the NFL right before becoming head coach of the Packers. Just saying. Ranking doesn't mean everything because these guys aren't interviewing for a coordinator position. -
Hiring an old, former coach to work for work as a front office executive for the first time in his career. It worked for us. Why not the Jags?

Sully: Bills aren't exactly doing a coaching star search
somnus00 replied to Rico's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are two types of fans after a losing season. Those fans who love hating the Bills. And those fans who hate loving the Bills. Sully is the former. -
Chargers 5th team to request interview with Anthony Lynn
somnus00 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As fans, I think we all need to understand that there is a whole hell of a lot that we don't know. I don't know if anyone on this board knows Anthony Lynn personally, but a lot of NFL people do. The NFL is a small circle, relatively speaking, and if Anthony Lynn is getting this many interviews, it's because he is respected in the community as a smart football guy, and a leader. Does this mean he'll be successful? I don't know. But I don't understand why people are confused by the amount of love he's getting around the league. -
Drafting a QB, learning from the past
somnus00 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I always appreciate the effort that goes into posts like this. I too think we need to learn from the past in drafting a QB. Every great QB must have two fundamental qualities. Accuracy and football smarts. This has to be the foundation in finding a QB. Yes you want leadership, strong arm, poise, etc. But those qualities fluctuate in the good quarterbacks. Brady didn't have the strongest arm. Big Ben was immature. Accuracy and football IQ are more important. It's easy to see why the Bills front office liked EJ. Great character. Great size. Strong arm. Bright kid. But his accuracy was a problem at Florida State. Dak Prescott's scouting reports all mentioned that he had smarts and accuracy (67% completion rate in college). Is it possible to have a smart, accurate QB fail? Yes, Trent Edwards. But these two traits will always give you better odds finding that franchise guy. From the scouting reports, it seems that Trubisky is accurate. I don't know what he has between the ears. BTW, every scouting report mentions that Chad Kelly's accuracy is streaky. Ignoring his attitude issues, he's an automatic, "no" in my book just based on accuracy (if I'm GM). -
Big media mystery.....why did Ryan get fired?
somnus00 replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm referring to the people criticizing Whaley for not being forthcoming. How do they expect Whaley to respond to these Rex questions? Is Whaley supposed to throw Pegula under the bus? It's my opinion that these fans, and the media, are just bitter because they want complete transparency. Now they're throwing a tantrum by calling for everyone to be fired. -
Big media mystery.....why did Ryan get fired?
somnus00 replied to TC in St. Louis's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Apparently this is the conversation with which some on this board would have been satisfied. Reporter: Doug, why was Rex fired? Doug: Well, Pegs the boss, the billionaire who owns the company, f%*$ed up. He called me after the phone call with Rex and said, "Dougie, I f#$%ed up bro. You were right. I was wrong. But if you tell anyone in the media, your ass is grass." But you know what guys? I believe in honesty more than my high paying job running one of only 32 NFL teams in the world. And I don't care if I never work in this business again. Rex was Terry's guy. Blame his ass. I think the logic of a person not wanting to blame his boss in public is just too much for some people to handle. -
The Bills didn't have to give Tyrod that contract, they had all the leverage. Last year Taylor still left a lot of questions unanswered. It seemed to me that the Bills did him a solid with that contract by paying him more than they were contractually obligated to pay him (his salary was peanuts by starting QB standards). That's why an end of year parameter was added in my opinion. The Bills were likely hoping Tyrod would sink or swim. Unfortunately, he just floated along doing neither. To the people saying that players won't want to come here because of the Taylor contract, I see it the opposite way.
-
I truly feel that some "fans" just love when the Bills are unsuccessful. Like they revel in Bills complaints. Then they can just pull out their annual, "burn it all down," comments. This simplistic view allows one to let out their anger without actually being analytical. Our team is more talented than at any other time this century. The GM is getting the types of players that his coach is asking for. If our defensive coach could have provided some semblance of a defense, we would've been in the playoffs the last 2 years. If the last offensive coach could have provided some semblance of an offense, we would have made the playoffs the 2 previous years. But some people will just ignore all of this because, "I'm mad so fire everyone!" You want a dumpster fire? Look at the fans.

What would make sense for selecting the next HC.
somnus00 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What makes sense to me is that we stop focusing on the hot mastermind coordinator of the season. In my opinion the head coach is not supposed to be a hot coordinator. The HC needs to be able to lead, communicate, motivate, direct, and delegate. A good coordinator doesn't necessarily make a good head coach. Just like a great salesman/woman doesn't necessarily make a great manager. The job duties are different. Mike McCarthy was the OC for the 49ers for one year before becoming the head coach. His offense finished dead last in the NFL before becoming the Packers' coach. Andy Reid was the QB coach before becoming a head coach. On the other side, think of excellent coordinators like Dick LeBeau, Norv Turner, Mike Martz, Steve Spagnuolo. They were all terrible as the head guy. This article has an interesting take. https://nflphilosophy.com/the-failure-of-head-coaches/
