  1. Hmmmm. Not sure I want Rex calling plays. This goes back to my "are you the Head Coach or are you the Defensive Coordinator in Chief?" He was the latter in New York. If he repeats that approach he will fail in Buffalo. Be the Head Coach. Get the right coordinators and trust them.

He took the Jets to 2 AFC championship games... He just needs the right OC and it seemed he finally got to pick his own.

  2. He talked with them about the changes,Cmon kid. He was the head coach just like Marrone.

If I am a kid then that means you are way too old and this game has passed you by. His GMs screwed him so unless you are saying Whaley is going g to do the same...

  3. What are the realistic names? Can we start a list?

    Free Agents:

    Mark Sanchez

    Brian Hoyer

    Matt Moore

    Christian Ponder

    (pretty gross list)

Via Trade (based purely on who may be available)

    Matt Ryan (longshot)

    Jay Cutler

    Colin Kaepernick

    Kirk Cousins

Who are we missing? I think there will be discussions about the Bills trading for Kaepernick and Cutler for most of the offseason. But my hunch is that they go with Hoyer or Sanchez.

Hahah I see Keep and Matt Ryan on that list.

  4. Like he did with the Jets ? He was the head coach. He decided who played and who didn`t . Who stayed and who didn`t. Over saw game plans. He was a part of their fall. Only in Buffalo do you get excited over a coach we destroyed .

No he wasn't you think k he wanted to get rid of his CBs? Yea right... His GMs consistently made bad decisions. As long as Whaley can keep getting good draft prospects and FA's while signing people that are needed this team should be fine.

  5. It seems like the vast majority of posters on TBD are loving the selection of Rex Ryan as new head coach. This is obviously some type of mass delusion! He is a charismatic loser to be sure who replaces a non-charismatic loser. Is that what you call an upgrade?

Wow. I give up trying to understand the world when black is white and day is night. I guess you see what you want to see.

The next move to seal the deal: Whaley trades a 1st round pick in 2016 for Jay Cutler!!! The final straw!

Ask the wizard for a brain.

  6. The refs !@#$ed this up by not allowing the defense to know who is ineligible. Pats are smart everyone is dumb.

The refs !@#$ed this up by not allowing the defense to know who is ineligible. Pats are smart everyone is dumb.

Other teams have used that exact play so not like they invented it.

  7. The question is who has final call on personnel. It might be Rex. That might have been the carrot that closed the deal. That would put Doug under Rex. Doug and the pro personnel scouts have done good work. Does Rex dictate what he needs and Doug finds it?

    Whaley does.

  8. I hear you but what will make us relevant or discussed is running a sound organization instead of a joke, and winning lots of football games.

We are already on the rise as a franchise and I think it will continue to get better and better.

My point is that we should not confuse Rex Ryan's name, notoriety, and media-created star power with a perception of him being a "top coach around the NFL".

His expertise defensively is pretty much beyond refute, but I am not sure everyone thinks he is a great head coach.

You don't have to take my word for it. Ask San Fran and Atlanta, both of whom Rex preferred over the Bills, and both of whom dragged their feet on making him a HC offer.

We need to continue to move forward as an organization and make smart/good moves at all levels in all ways, and continue to develop a "culture of winning" if you know what I mean. That is what will make us relevant on a national level.

Rex is a smart good move.
  9. I really really really hope Schwartz stays but I just don't see how it will work. Schwartz and Pepper both have egos and if Rex and Thurman come in and try and tell them how to do their job they might not all play nice together

Won't matter if Schwartz stays. Schwartz took this team to top 5 but Rex will make it #1.

  10. Yea. A future where Rex does really good again for two years after inheriting a stacked team (defensively at least), and then finishes out the last three years of his contract with losing records.

So Whaley is going to suck you say?

Agreed. But judging on how his coaching declined in his first stint, I'm less that optimistic. Still I am hopeful.

As long as Whaley hits on his draft picks and FA pickups Rex shouldn't have many problems.

Hell last year they had 13+ draft picks... How many made the team or even started?

  11. He isn't a Buffalo Beat reporter (at least I don't think so). He is their AFC East reporter.

And Rex is a terrible hire, IMO.

But the point is, a blogger is allowed to have his own opinion and not simply agree with what is being said by others.

Now, I happen to agree that Rodak sucks. But I can't agree with your post for the reasons stated.

No he is the Bills writer... But he is a Pats fan. Dumbest thing in the world.
  12. This is a painful hire. There is nothing that excites me about this. We just hired a guy that went 4-12. I wonder how many times in NFL history a guy that just came off that type of season he just had have been hired as a head coach by another NFL team right away. I have zero idea why this makes anyone happy.

His GM had 13 picks last year... How many actually started for the team... Or even made the team. You can only make a **** sandwich smell so good.

Rex is about to get a defense that is better then the one he took to the AFC Championship Game.
